You guys have guns ???? Want me to remind you how many killings your country got each week due to gun violence …. Nah firework is dangerous ….. seriously …. Opinions are like a.s.s.h.o.l.e.s we all got one 🤣👍
One thing to point out is that the extreme explosions you see in this video, are done with fireworks that are not legal in The Netherlands. You can't walk into a shop and just get something that blows up trees. The problem here is that Europe is not one country. It's made up of several countries that have both their own laws and laws on a European level. So some companies in countries like Italy and Poland for instance, produce heavy fireworks meant for professional shows. That is completely legal. However, criminal organizations are able to get their hands on those "fireworks" and then transport them to other countries over criminal routes that are already there for transporting drugs and other things. Those "fireworks" are then illegaly sold to individual customers in those countries. So don't think that a 13 year old boy can walk into a shop and get something that levels a tree in his backyard. There have been talks about a national firework ban, but that is pointless because the biggest cause of the problem is already illegal. In the mean time, those criminal organizations have realized that the specific type of "firework" is also very useful for something else: bomb attacks. There has been an increase in bomb atttacks in The Netherlands in recent years. Some of these professional "fireworks" have the same eplosive energy as hand granades. They combine those with some flammable materials like gasoline and then you get the big booms. Useful for blowing up doors, store fronts and ATMs. It used to be all fun and games but it's slowly turning serious....
You clearly never visited us in the countryside down South or East :) Bombs everywhere and almost zero criminals. Just fun, solidarity and party-time (we don't destroy trees though, those toddlers are just morons)
Its not only criminal organizations tho, i knew a Polish dude back in the days, who always went to family in Poland with christmas and then always took a lot of firework back with him, but i get your point.
In this video, you see all the extreme situations right after each other. So it looks like a war zone. And although this happens, it does not happen at the same place. Every year I enjoy the fireworks, and it is beautiful, and I am never in danger. The mailboxes are usually closed, so it is impossible to blow them up, and the same goes for the public garbage bins. There is always police present. This is not a bad tradition. It is moderate in most places. I can use this metaphor: If you make a video about people getting drunk and wasted on a certain day, this can be true, but does not mean that everybody gets drunk and wasted. Most people are moderate. Also in the Netherlands. So do not worry.
I remember in 2020 they put a ban on regular fireworks, never seen so much fireworks going up in the sky that night, in my neighborhood, it was awesome😂
most people that use fireworks use it in the way it's designed to be used, lighting it and shooting it into the sky. but you have that small group of people that doesn't care for anyone else's property and just destroys whatever they feel like destroying. those people are here all year around (like everywhere else in the world), but the fireworks just give their bad impulses that little extra kick. only the people that do this think it's ok, no one wants their property damaged, people feeling unsafe, or just taxes going up because the damages have to be paid for. but the tradition of normal civilians being able to purchase and use fireworks (on the few hours a year, it's not even a full day) is something great (i think). with those national shows so much people are left out of experiencing it themselves. even if you have one of those shows in your own city, not every citizen is able to be there and have a place to see the full show in all its glory. but with the Dutch way you have these "small unofficial shows" all throughout the city, no matter where you are you're able to enjoy the fireworks. and it's a way of socializing for a lot of people, neighbourhoods come together, take turns in shooting up their haul of fireworks, and just have a nice evening of explosions and alcohol. it's the perfect way of saying goodbye to the year and celebrate making it to the next.
The part at 3:16 when they show the ¨the dutch cetebrate with 1000 less majestic shows¨ is actually footage from a police helicopter in Amsterdam during the corona full ban on fireworks. Normally it would be much much more. The sidemen channel have a video where they get on a crane at nye in Amsterdam, that shows it much better.
My dad once bought a illegal Chinese roll that was 1.5 meters wide whilst rolled up. In the middle it had 4 bombs the size of toilet paper rolls. It literally destroyed all the stone tiles and blew the street open and it gave me half a concussion but damn that was awesome 👌
I live close to a local square and every NYE one bar organizes a fireworks show that is always beautiful to watch. A lot of people go to Germany to buy fireworks since it can be bought year round there. That's where the illegal and 'bomb' like fireworks come from that are banned in the Netherlands (for a good reason). I have no problems with the legal version of fireworks but the illegal shit causes a lot of damage.
Fireworks in Germany are sold the same time as in the Netherlands, 29 30 and 31 of december. Belgium has Year around fireworks, but not as powerfull as they were. Most powerfull fireworks these days come from Poland and Tjecho. People buy in Germany because of the price, much cheaper. But "Bomb "like fireworks are not for sale in Germany ;)
Stop met liegen ! Duitsland verkoopt niks zwaars en alles wat hier verboden is , zoals Romeinse kaarsen pijltjes shocks is gewoon kinderachtig van Nederland. Stop met liegen op het internet achterlijke
I’m Dutch and there are different levels of fireworks and some are for kids, but there are also parents that don’t care and get the “bomb” like fireworks and give it to their children
The most firework that you saw is illegal in the Netherlands and came from countries like Poland,Germany and Belgium. The things that are demolished with illegal fireworks are a small group that ruined the tradition for the other inhabitants
Most of this stuff IS highly illegal. But people are still calling to forbid the illegal fireworks (which is as pointless as passing a law for all liquid water to be wet). But in surrounding countries a lot of fireworks are available over the counter. In the Netherlands the amount of gunpowder is restricted and since a few years anything that says boom is banned.
Accidents do happen every year with fireworks. There are public service announcements to try a d prevent this. As a 90s kid, I reignited a firecracker that was leftover from what was called a "Chinese Roll" at the time. It consists of about a 1000 firecrackers tied together with a few big ones at the end. These have lightning fast fuses when lit as designed to have them go off in fast succession after the safe fuse is lit, which then ignites each individual firecracker's fuse. You're not supposed to light them individually. But as kids we would look for the leftovers and ignite them the next day which is dangerous. I was wearing a glove since it was still a rare and COLD winter. Like a dummy I lit the fuse and it instantly exploded in my hand. My thumb was numb for 3 days. It could have ended horribly and quite often for other kids it did. They'd lose an eye or some fingers. Lesson learned. Then there is the issue of illegal fireworks imported from among other countries, Belgium at the time as well. Every year starting September, people would start to smuggle in "strijkers" which are basically LOUD firecrackers with a match head fuse instead of a wire fuse. This makes gauging the time you have left until it explodes hard which is part of why they were and are illegal in The Netherlands. Over the years more and more explosive powered firecrackers would become more popular with the kids. Adult men remain children as well. Sometimes, with fatal consequences. A man about 10 years ago in my hometown bought a firework that you set down and it shoots out explosives straight up in the air. The rule is after you light fireworks strictly speaking if lit and it's a dud, you stay away. Especially with illegal, higher explosive fireworks. It was a dud. The man couldn't help himself. I don't know if he had drunk alcohol which isn't uncommon but it makes impaired judgement a factor. Imagine looking into the barrel of a loaded gun like in a cartoon. This is the equivalent of what the man did. He got decapitated. Fireworks are a Dutch tradition, so some people are all for it and some against it in part because of the noise complaints, effects on animals, the elderly and fearful and legitimate vandalism and safety concerns. Because of all this, the debate about this and "other traditions" flares (pun intended) up every year pretty much. As a kid, New Year's Eve outside with your friends drunk and/or stoned partying felt like you were in the Vietnam war to me. Awesome, exciting, dangerous. Another one of our more controversial traditions is Sinterklaas en Zwarte Piet. Basically Santa Claus 🎅 with mildly(?) racist blackface helpers (from soot the proponents say/or because historically there was slavery behind the tradition according to opponents). Think Halloween with a 100% more toys and 20% more racial insensitivity. When I was young kids during this holliday would ask sometimes if black/brown immigrants were Black Pete which must have been awkward at best and downright racist at worst for people of colour. Recognising that it's still a holiday I remember fondly, because as a kid you'd be spoiled rotten with candy and toys. As with many things I'm conflicted on this tradition. Then again I'm white so I could be willfully ignorant, because the candy and toys filled the hole in my fatherless heart. Wtf do I know? Anyway, enjoy this crazy little country of ours before thermonuclear war ensues I guess. All the best.
Urban people? You mean to say that the farm kids ARE bright? You have never seen the stupid stunts they pull off in places like driehuizen, staverden or gatindedijk? Kids are stupid, regardless if they live in a city or in a tiny village.
The thing is, when this video was made those bombs were home made fireworks bombs. You couldn’t really buy them. But a couple of years ago things changed. Suddenly there was this hit new thing on the market called a cobra. Those things have the explosive force of a god damn hand-grenade. They are illegal in The Netherlands, but you don’t have to go to some underground black market to get them. Chances are your neighbor will be selling them. Once lit, it’s not like the fuse is very short, giving you time to get people out of the way. No. The fuse just takes seconds. So, a passerby who didn’t notice that what you’re lighting is a cobra can get seriously hurt or die from them (and don’t forget all the destruction of property). Proponents will say “if you get hurt it’s your own fault” and “if someone destroys your property, that’s on them, and the majority shouldn’t be punished for the actions of a few.” As a while, I agree. Collective punishment is bad. But, when it comes to this I am of the opinion that collective action is required. What the proponents of fireworks also conveniently ignore is that even without cobra’s, fireworks cause millions in property damage every year. There are around 5000 people injured every year. With about 100 to 200 having permanent injuries and between 30 and 50 with debilitating injuries. And the real kicker? Most of the property damage and injuries are either bystanders. Not the people setting the regular fireworks off. It’s vuurpijlen going through the open window of your neighbors house, setting their house ablaze. It’s vuurpijlen going into a passerby’s eye. It’s a pot that falls over, or blows over by the wind, setting a fence on fire. Or a car. What many people also forget, and find out when it’s to late, is that even though having fireworks in your home on 29, 30 and 31 December. If you have a house fire on those days, even if fireworks has nothing to do with it, if the fire investigation finds fireworks present in your home, the insurance does NOT pay out. It’s specifically mentioned in every home insurance policy. What people also forget is that if your fireworks cause damage to someone else’s property, and you were grossly negligent, your liability insurance won’t pay out either. A former neighbor of mine had this exact situation happen. He lit a vuurpijl, which fell over due to the wind and started a fire in another neighbors home. The insurance company concluded that he was grossly negligent, because the instructions clearly state that you have to firmly secure the platform you use for the launch, and it was very windy. So, the insurance company concluded that if the platform he used to launch the vuurpijl (in his case a beer bottle) had been properly secured (I.e. secured into the ground for at least half of the depth of the bottle), the the vuurpijl would have gone straight up. The insurance also concluded that it was far to windy to use vuurpijlen and that any reasonable person should have know this. So they didn’t pay out, and the courts ruled in the insurance companies favor. So, even if you don’t care about the people around you, and don’t give a damn about the possible injuries to others and damage to your neighbors property, you should at least care about your own financial wellbeing. A house fire can rack up hundreds of thousand euros in damages. So, unless you have that kind of money laying around, bezint eer ge begint.
90% of what you see is homemade and illegal fireworks from abroad. The legal fireworks sold here are pretty safe. Very strictly regulated. Kids destroying property with homemade stuff is where the parents' responsebility comes in. The usual legally sold fireworks here have nothing to do with this type of examples.
Interesting about the Dutch word "oorlog" is dat it's not "krijg" which would be direct equivalent from war, guerre, Krieg, guerro etc. Our word for war comes from fate, destiny, and broken order. So apparently that reflects the attitude towards war. Anyway, it is of course ridiculous but I did enjoy it as a kid. Yes, it was a little dangerous but you were with your friends roaming the streets a bit mischeavous, participating and judging and handling the risks. The idea that that could be replaced by government organized firework shows is ridiculous too. It's about doing, not about watching responsible certified adults do.
Trouble is that it maybe has gone to far and you can't tone it down to acceptable levels again. The Djinn is out of the bottle and like firearms in the US, it will be fought as a kind of "freedom".
Seeing this video as a Dutch person makes me extremely proud. They took our guns away over 100 years ago but don’t mess with us because we have bombs😂😂😂 Btw my dog loves fireworks. She loves it even more than me.
I love the fireworks and do think the tradition should continue. The big explosive fire works you see in the video are illegal already but people go to different countries where they are legal. Most people just have normal safe fireworks but some people ruin it by using them in dangerous ways and that is sad
Fireworks are the best thing in the country. I'm 36 yo now and loving it as much as i did when i was 12. It got bigger and better over the years ofcourse bud always responsible. The biggest problem with the fireworks and new years is the alcohol en drugs (younge) people are taking in combination with the fireworks.
When we are so young we have no idea of the dangers, but as soon as we grow up we are aware of all the dangers. And we try to keep our children away from it, but it is inevitable. a human system. And unfortunately we have to respect that too. Greetings from the Netherlands.
No, it does not get worse. In some places, it is every year the same and in the bigger cities there are every year more restrictions, to make sure it does not get out of hand. Although this video is correct, it is not at every place that bad. Where I live, there were beautiful, no too dangerous, fireworks on New Year's Eve.
Most of the video is a compilation of the most extreme fireworks, what is not a real view. I lived 49 years in the Netherlands and never experienced these kind of fireworks. To me it was perfectly safe to walk around in the middle of the night.
For me it's not about just a day, maybe 2. It's every weekend at nights, for months in advance. Our dogs are afraid to walk in September. Myself, I enjoy a BOOM on Old/Newyears Day. But it's just too crazy, too early. People build b0mbs in their garages, and try them on a Saturday night. The windows shake sometimes. Also, January 1st, kids go outside search for unexpl0ded fireworks. Leading to the next issue.
it's important to know the insane explosions are illegal fireworks, usually from belgium, germany or poland. the solution to getting rid off firework injuries is to be stricter with checking that, not making consumer fireworks even more expensive
When you said let professionals do it, you get that we the dutch go to Poland to get fireworks. Also there are not that many professional firework shows like in the south side there are no shows. P.S. I like your videos😊
As Dutchie... i grew up with fireworks and still I love fireworks. But those heavy explosions, they are most likely Cobra 6, 7, 8 or something in that range (between 25 and 200 grams of flash) combined with other flamable things.. then it's not fireworks anymore then it's basicly an IED. Problem is, more and more fireworks get restricted for consumers, but that only hurt the people buying legal fireworks, the ones buying illegal are not hurt by it so they just buy those items in Belgium or Poland mostly. I taught the kids how to handle fireworks, responsibly.. and thank god it stuck. But even I have bought some things in Belgium, like simple bottlerockets and a mandarin cracker. Things which are perfectly safe as long as you do not fuck around with it. Basicly all categorie 2 fireworks are perfectly safe and usable by consumers, it's the Dutch government who sets more and more limits which actually drive people across the border, and welll, when you're there you might pick up a few things extra as planned (kid in the candystore principle lol) If the Dutch goverment would actually wake up and ease off restrictions, actually allowing a bit more then let's say 10 years ago... then you would see less attraction to the really heavy category 4 things (which are sticktly for professional use but yea.. go to any fireworks stand on the polish market and you can find stuff, it's getting harder to find but ask the right person and suddenly a curtain or a door opens and you are in fireworks heaven. Personally, I can live without the improvised explosions, the destruction of public property. You can have tons of fun with lighter stuff then that and those will not blow your fricken hand off. You will not lose a limb even if something happens, yea 2nd or 3rd degree burn and if you do not wear eye protection (which you get with every order you pick up at the Dutch stores) you can damage or lose an eye. Because of those heavy cat4 stuff fireworks gets a bad name, you can ban all fireworks which they have done a few years in a row during covid.. but did that help? no... the stores across the border were busier then ever. with a ban.. you just punish the average fireworks user, the ones pulling all that crap will not be hindered. I can write a whole book about this topic, this already is a read and a half and I haven't even scratched the surface about reponsible and fun use of fireworks and what the effects are on the society, the lack of enforcement etc etc. But for now.. I'll stop typing before I grow a beard!
Mortician from the Netherlands here: wish there'd be a public ban & that there were just these massively impressive firework-shows. You wanna go & light firework? Go & get an annual job assisting during the shows or something. Every new years eve, I have to work overtime & see people regret someone else's dumb decisions & tbh I think the country could do without. Instead of complaining about how "its fun" & "they're taking away our right", how bout ye explain to the kids WHY it was banned for the general public. Just some thoughts but yea, wish they'd implement the ban.
Fireworks are fun, I lit them when I was 8 and now I'm 40 and I still do them. We occasionally get into mischief, blowing a turd, or some other things. We also really made bombs. little ones. but we never blew anything up with that. It's fun but times change. heavy fireworks and then in combination with flammable liquid. heavy fireworks are also illegal in the Netherlands. it's an old video and fireworks are almost banned. Because now there is rioting too often, and unfortunately also on emergency workers. Like I said, fireworks are fun. But handle it respectfully. For yourself and for bystanders. good luck with your channel!!
My dog is very afraid of thunderstorms and fireworks. So on the last day of the year I buy a bottle of eggnog (avokaat voor de landgenoten), she likes it and sleeps through the whole thing. I like the one day anarchy in our nanny-state.
Its a tradition like there alot of 'bad' traditions.. only like a 100 people a year get injured but thats mostly with illigal fireworks and not know how to handle the fireworks or experiment with them. Its a little dangerous but alot of fun and brings people together.
My last two dogs didn't care about fireworks. One was even big enough to come stand next to my son in the open window and watch the show. Before that I had a dog that was a bit scared, we used to give him a pint of beer at eleven so just an hour before midnight and after a short walk he would fall asleep in front of the fireplace to wake up like 5 hours later when 90% of the noise had stopped..
you really need ear and eye protection around that date when going outside. At night folks also blow up stuff like fridges inside a tunnel. Which you can hear across a city....
if you think that is crazy (and don't get me wrong the explosive power fireworks that are considered illegal is crazy nowadays) you might want to watch a video of the more rural new years tradition we have called Carbidschieten. where farmers drill a hole in the bottem of an old milk cannister trow in some calcium carbide and water and put the lid back on, wait some time for the gasses to farm and hold a fire source next to the before mentioned hole they drilled. it's basically shooting a canon without gunpowder.
I've always loved fireworks, since I was a small child. As an adult I still love it and I miss the time lighting fireworks as a kid because it's getting stricter and stricter, and because it's getting stricter and stricter more and more very heavy and illegal fireworks are on the streets, fire works that can kill you and or seriously harm you. Last year a father of young children in my city got blown up and lost his eyesight and hearing and eventually died a couple of days later. He had "illegal" (professional)fireworks, fireworks that is so heavy that it can only handled by professionals and with professional detonators, the man in question lighted it up with a lighter (and that cost him his life). If the ban gets more stricter this is going to happen a lot more, because EVERYWHERE in Europe fireworks are legal to buy accept the Netherlands. I really don't understand why the gouvernment doesn't understand this.. Make something illegal and people want it even more..That's just nature, and that's why we surived thousands and thousands of years. Humans want things they don't have, so they strave to get it. Get to other countries, get cures, etc, etc..
Every year I hide myself in my house from 30 december till the 1 of januari. Your description of the feeling of The Purge is right. I hate it am so scared. One year I locked myself in the bathroom from 24.00 till 2.00 out of fear. I hate it. The country is torn in 2: ban or no ban of fireworks. It costs so much money because of the police, hospitals and firebrigade. I wish that there were contained places like some fields were you can use your fireworks and no fireworks in the streets. But I am afraid there is no inbetween here
The normal fire works are crazy, but these are extreme. This is not tradition!!! No we are not cool with the extreme, and yes the dogs, outdoor cats and other animals.😢 people need to medicate there dogs, indoor cats to keep them calm and not fearful. And only 1 day a year is also not the case it even starts weeks before. Police say by the time we arrive they will be gone. I would be okay when it isn't allowed anymore, but i also know there are a lot of well intentioned people who just want to have some fun so it would be sad for them. One big beautiful organized show would be nice, where i live so many people come together in one place that it becomes foggy from the smoke, nothing beautiful about that, besides the smell.😅
ooo yes butterfly effect, damn I remember seeing that and being beyond obsessed with it for a few months lol. I think some concepts in that movie are a thing in my dreams (where I can sometimes ''reset'' or ''rewrite'' a situation, but then the new dream/situation will always be slightly altered, often getting worse instead of fixing a situation).
Thank you! I try to remember what sounds go where and yeah, remember the butterfly effect firework scene? There's an interesting compilation on youtube called "butterfly effect - explosion sound effect" which is a good refresher of that scene.
Most of the explosions you see here are illegal fireworks and are not sold here, the problem is that germany and belgium have different laws so people just go abroad, this is one of those things that needs to be tackled at an EU lvl
Even as a dutchy, i never like fireworks, it just feels like a huge waste of money, and danger special with the illigal fireworks people get, as a kid/teen i got hit by the wooden rod attacked to a firework rocket falling from the sky lol, shits... Not great, so much of it is fired off that it blots out the sky, only the colorful stuff is somewhat enjoyable for 5 minutes, but people go so fucking wild wit hthat shit, sometimes even through the year (saving it and using it later)
Even watching can be dangerous! My football coach was watching up at the 'pijlen' which have a wooden part that comes back down to earth, straight into his eye. Even as a kid ive had multiple shot directly at me bc they fell over, when they were put down by responsible adults. Have fun, but do it with respect and consideration.
My dogs arent bothered at all by all the fireworks here, firework rockets fly infront of my window all the time on new years (i live above a store) its mostly the owners that are scared so the animals think something going to happen, in the beginning my dog would run upstairs but i never bothered to go and hug them as if they have to be scared now they sleep on the sofa not even looking up.
Sir, I have a video suggestion for you that might be less useful for your channel but as you are a teacher, might be interesting to watch for yourself or even use in your classroom (I don't know what ages you teach, or what classes), It is called "I filmed plants for 15 years | TimeLapse Compilation" (channel is called Boxlaps) and shows a timelapse of the growcycle of all sorts of plants. from pea to potato to pepper to pinetree. (and plants starting with other letters as well :P) Of course I recommend that video to everyone else as well. Not my work, not affiliated with the channel. Just something I came across
The "Expolsions" are not really destructive it are more firebombs that are made of a smaller firework strapped to 1 or multiple bottle`s of flamible fluids. So if you ignite it in the road nothing really happens. And the fireworks used to blow up public property are already banned even on new years. The only fireworks that you can legally buy in the Netherlands are not that dangerous if you use it how it is meant to, In the same way you use a car, a car can also be a deadly weapon but if used properly is just a mode of transport.
Heyy teacher paul if you wanna know anything about the Dutch let me know where i life there is the biggest bomfire with new year . Take al look add Duindorp new year bomfire . And offcorse it is not good when People and animals get Hurt with firework .
I live in the Netherlands. New Year's Eve is the most beautiful day of the year, fun with the family. why don't you come to the Netherlands on December 31st
As a Dutch person myself, I think it is kinda double... Yeah, I played with fireworks myself back when I was young (I'm old now). But I never vandalized shit, I never brought anyone in danger, heck, even when someone came up to us and politely aksed ''hey, we find it kinda annoying, can you please move somewhere else?'' we would, without giving them a lecture, or a potty mouth (which you will definitely get nowadays from the youth!) But, first of all. These huge explosions you showed, are often created by home made bombs. Like, terpentine, gasoline or whatever they use for it, or several firework pieces, or maybe even illegal shit from for example, Poand, or Belgium. These are often used by kids who think they're tough, and bad ass by blowing up shit, or put it in a bike lane tunnel or whatever. The blowing shit up, sorry, but this is just disgusting, and often probably done (prejudice) by idiots who didn't have any upbringing, often don't have any manners or something. And, a lot of people in NL hate those people. Because, well, guess who's gonna pay for all the damage? Exactly, the tax payers. Us! Animals? Yeah, often they dislike it. Dogs and cats for example really are terrified often. I have three cats myself, luckily they aren't as terrified (it's brand cats, so they act different) and often they're gonna sit behind the window, looking at the fireworks 😹 Also a thing to point out. They said ''but on December 31st''... I wish it was December 31st only! Man, it even starts in like, August already here. And, where I live (village) they even use fireworks for like, when they have a baby born, or, these stupid gender reveal bullshit, or just because they have a party, or just for like, no reason at all. It's from August, up to April. And every months some random moron fires up some fireworks here. And, I don't mind having fireworks though, I mean, I like good fireworks. But if you aks me, they should ban it completely! At least, for the normal people that is. I would love to pay for a big ass fireworks show, as the shows often also use heavier fireworks, and really can put up a good show with it. Saw some shows in my life (not too crazy, just a few) and they combined it with music. Man, almost tearing me up, so beautiful as it was. Fireworks here from regular civillians? Nah, not as beautiful as you think it is. It's often way too low on explosive powder, so it's by far not as beautiful as in shows. So, would I say let's ban that shit? Yeah, definitely. And, the people who use it outside December 31st need to be fined like, at least €2,500 a piece of fireworks. It wakes me up in the middle of the night, it sucks! I need to work, and I have sleep issues already because of my ADHD. Do I wish to have a ban for everyone? Nah, also not really, because, there's a lot of people who do keep them to the Dec 31st rule. Not everyone with fireworks is a moron or asshole. Hope it helps ;)
On New Year's Eve someone lost both their eyes due to fireworks. It blew up in his face almost immediately. The man is 31 and has a young family with 2 children.
each year many lose their fingers/hands playing around with fireworks in the netherlands, And yes it's a nightmare for all animals all around the netherlands the week up to and after new year sometimes you can hear fireworks month after newyear. But for how long it will be this way before the rules change.
What about tge dogs? One of my dogs is in total panic when he hears any fireworks. Tried everything with him and now with new year I simply escape the Netherlands for a week. Go to the Eifel, a nature reserve in Germany. Rent a cabin for a week. A few fireworks, but only for 10 minutes max. I wouldn’t mind the fireworks If they would stick to the timeframe it’s allowed (in (10 in the morning to 2 at night at new years eve). But what happens is three weeks before and 3 weeks after there’s already fireworks everywhere. That’s what I really hate most about it and what makes me mad.
Well most of the "fireworks" shown are not sold in the normal fireworks stores, and more had been forbidden a few years ago while I think it was not needed to forbid those, but the borders are open, so it just gets imported. If people handled them normally, looked for a suitable spot, keep to the set allowed timeframe and paid attention it wasn't even that big of a problem.
A lot of people that get injured are drunk because they drink in the begin of the night and they later light fireworks while being drunk and then start to do stupid things
I ❤ fireworks But I keep my door & windows closed, have had rockets nearly flying in, and oh my my my, the ER's are crowded😢 ppl loosing fingers and hands, all animals on valium ( literally). Tsja....
Here you see the extreem situations. Situations I dont get either. We have certain hours we can use the fireworks. (mostly between 6 pm on the 31st and till 2am on the 1st of January, if I am correct.) People have a hard time obeying the rules apparently. We have the timeslot because of the pets. Unfortunately its also the busiest time on the ER because of this extreem situations.
Im no expairt on it but for your information fireworks are set in tiers tier 1 is like child fireworks like small to no bang mostly sparkles tier 2 goes to the wondertollen and small bangs tier 3 goes to sky fireworks like the ones in shows and after that is tier 4 and illigaily brought in which all of the explosions you see in the vidio also tier 1 can be bought at the age of 16 and tier 2 and 3 from 18 4 i think its illigail but im sure the ohter is illigle so im glad you agree whit me that if needs to be responsible whit it :)
this are the exstreme things what dont happen everywhere, but i agree new year is crazy here and i dont like it so i stay inside with my animals the hole day.
Man New year used to be the most awesome day in the year for me. Dutch guy here. I used to fill in fireworks forms a month ahead to everything I could get. Yes it can be a little dangerous but come on man. A bag of firecrackers. Don't take this amazingly cool thing away from the kids. Live a little.
its a bit double for me. on the one hand, i love seeing firework. it is pretty. but that can easily be achieved with firework shows, although you'd have to go to a designated location for that and I like being at home during new years. on the other hand, it is honestly awful for the environment, the animals (dogs and birds especially, but also many others), the people (my mother is dead afraid of fireworks and stays inside all the time). this in my opinion is more important than a bit of fun. note that you can buy firework from like 5 days in advance. you are allowed to set it off on the 31st only officially, but no one does that. so the misery starts then, and even earier. people import illegal fireworks from other countries (belgium, germany). store it under their bed, for instance, in their garage. stuff that is illegal for a reason. stuff that is essentially a bomb. its a disaster waiting to happen. people are incredibly stupid (as the video shows). give stupid people bombs, and see what will happen. thats basically the case now. lately bans have been happening. like some cities not allowing fireworks at all last year. but thats local, except for 2020. it is a good thing. things need to change. i have to admit that i miss the fireworks the year it was officially banned (2020, due to the ICUs being full). it felt empty. but i think thatw e can all learn to live with it. it'll be beneficial in the end.
the problem is it being banned all year around for only 1 day its , if the legalize it all year round no one gonna buy fire works after maybe 3 months the fun is over ,its not cheap hobby so there fore many will store it up for new years or a birthday party, so the problem will go away also the min age is 16 not 13 parents are problem
and our fireworks are weak as hell we need higher grade of fireworks to prevent this from happening more often because half of this aint dutch fireworks but illigal imported
also 99% of the so called victems where the perpetrator the ones that set of the illigal fireworks blown of there hand and or put black powder from fireworks or fireworks pistol rounds in to glass jarrs we the firework enjoyers have 0 semphaty for them they got money for a stoopid campaignn its called propaganda
Most people use their fireworks the way it should be handled, so I'm fiercely against a nation wide ban. Social media has changed things, back in the 90ties we often went to school yards or other reclusive places leading up to the big night. Of course property damaged also happened back than but a lot less, and targeting animals was out of the question to. Those who did targeted animals or were bragging about it got their asses whooped and of course reported to the police. Hearing the stories from my own kids today, is that targeting animals is still considered to be not ok. And youngsters will take action on it, but sadly you always will have psycho's who do. As for our own pets, we always lock them up around 11.50 pm at the 31st, in a well lit room with a tv,, so they don' t see/hear a lot of the explosions between midnight and 2 am (though in the past it went on all night). And a week before the 31st till the second, we only let our dog and cats outside in the back yard.
i think that it should be availeble all year round. when it is legal that means that it becomes more normal and the extreme parts heardly occure anymore. just as the soft drugs in the netherlands are tollerated, that leads to less users and less drug addicts in general. on average there are less drug users per capita than in countries were it is illegal. the same goes for fireworkt when they are allowed year round
that's why the 13 year old boys are extra dangerious...firtst they do, and later think about what they are doing..some cities already have vorbidden fireworks...more will follow... most extreme firework you see are illegal, mostly sold in the surrounding countries..smuggled over the border and there they go..
Much of the big explosions are highly iligal here. Ive they got caught the punishment is just a joke. Every year my hate for fireworks grow more and more. It is time people think about what they are doing because i always loved fireworks.

You guys have guns ???? Want me to remind you how many killings your country got each week due to gun violence …. Nah firework is dangerous ….. seriously …. Opinions are like a.s.s.h.o.l.e.s we all got one 🤣👍
It does NOT smell like smoke, there is so much in the air that the entire country smells like gunpowder and it is incredible.

I'm a 50+ woman, NYE is my time to celebrate with at least 30 guests and kilo's fireworks 🎉😂
Zoals het hoort haha knallen met die ballen 😆
Dutch urban people are not always the brightest.
Urban people? You mean to say that the farm kids ARE bright? You have never seen the stupid stunts they pull off in places like driehuizen, staverden or gatindedijk? Kids are stupid, regardless if they live in a city or in a tiny village.
Says a moron
The dutch is Just the best😂😂
12:34 | German viewer here, there already are different types of firework categories out there. For young and adult.
They took our guns away over 100 years ago but don’t mess with us because we have bombs😂😂😂
Btw my dog loves fireworks.
I am not even shocked anymore when a dutchman blows his fingers off at New Year's eve. At this point I mostly just count how many.
As a 16 yr dutchie girl i almost went deaf in one ear dutch new year is lowkey wild and fire
Basicly all categorie 2 fireworks are perfectly safe and usable by consumers, it's the Dutch government who sets more and more limits which actually drive people across the border, and welll, when you're there you might pick up a few things extra as planned (kid in the candystore principle lol)
If the Dutch goverment would actually wake up and ease off restrictions, actually allowing a bit more then let's say 10 years ago... then you would see less attraction to the really heavy category 4 things (which are sticktly for professional use but yea.. go to any fireworks stand on the polish market and you can find stuff, it's getting harder to find but ask the right person and suddenly a curtain or a door opens and you are in fireworks heaven.
It’s true though, im lucky to be alive too. It’s getting real rough during new year….
But it is also amazing!
On the end of the night, most hospitals are at max capacity, it’s literally a warzone
Its a tradition like there alot of 'bad' traditions.. only like a 100 people a year get injured but thats mostly with illigal fireworks and not know how to handle the fireworks or experiment with them.
Its a little dangerous but alot of fun and brings people together.
Adult supervision? lol. You gotta lot to learn about the Dutch.
You can't convince me the Dutch don't supervise their children, it's just a common responsibility
@@DACHBeneluxthey do it's just on new years eve the adults can be just a childish as the kids
Thats true haha my father in the past hate fire works but 00:00 he was the craziest haha@@lexroet1215
Happiest kids in the world.
I like normal and safe firework.. Destroy stuff i dont like at all!
But I am afraid there is no inbetween here
Can not wait 🤗 i celebrate my birthday when fire work starts (1-1)😊

@elvirazandee8530 thank you! I have fun on this channel, 😂 these videos are unique

Btw your Dutch pronounciations are great, you're really talented at the sounds :)
Thank you! I try to remember what sounds go where
and yeah, remember the butterfly effect firework scene? There's an interesting compilation on youtube called "butterfly effect - explosion sound effect" which is a good refresher of that scene.
Ja.. het is altijd een wereld oorlog in de buurt met vuurwerk 😂.
We are dutch. We are all professionals 😇🤣
We grow up with this every year sins small getting excited after Christmas to start buying
Good video, i really enjoyed it.
And i own 2 huskys those are NOT easy dogs to train
Sir, I have a video suggestion for you that might be less useful for your channel but as you are a teacher, might be interesting to watch for yourself or even use in your classroom (I don't know what ages you teach, or what classes), It is called "I filmed plants for 15 years | TimeLapse Compilation" (channel is called Boxlaps) and shows a timelapse of the growcycle of all sorts of plants. from pea to potato to pepper to pinetree. (and plants starting with other letters as well :P)
Of course I recommend that video to everyone else as well. Not my work, not affiliated with the channel. Just something I came across
I'm an English Teacher (ESL), mostly for adults who need to pass the IELTS exam to come live in London
I celebrated the new year in the Netherlands.. luckily, it was normal.. i didn't see anything scary.. We dont hate you.. 😊
Your pronounciation of "oorlog" was spot on!
Screaming housemaids = Gillende keukenmeiden
Heyy teacher paul if you wanna know anything about the Dutch let me know where i life there is the biggest bomfire with new year . Take al look add Duindorp new year bomfire . And offcorse it is not good when People and animals get Hurt with firework .
I live in the Netherlands. New Year's Eve is the most beautiful day of the year, fun with the family. why don't you come to the Netherlands on December 31st
And most insanely is that you can't buy those fireworks in the Netherlands, cause it's forbidden. We get those fireworks in Poland and Belgium.
As a Dutch person myself, I think it is kinda double... Yeah, I played with fireworks myself back when I was young (I'm old now). But I never vandalized shit, I never brought anyone in danger, heck, even when someone came up to us and politely aksed ''hey, we find it kinda annoying, can you please move somewhere else?'' we would, without giving them a lecture, or a potty mouth (which you will definitely get nowadays from the youth!)
But, first of all.
I have three cats myself, luckily they aren't as terrified (it's brand cats, so they act different) and often they're gonna sit behind the window, looking at the fireworks 😹
Also a thing to point out.
The man is 31 and has a young family with 2 children.
well did he wear safty glasses?
@@ricardoebbers5154 no Unfortunately not
each year many lose their fingers/hands playing around with fireworks in the netherlands, And yes it's a nightmare for all animals all around the netherlands the week up to and after new year sometimes you can hear fireworks month after newyear.
😂 some people have axes to nuclear buttons but its a small comment😂 nice vid btw keep it up
Well most of the "fireworks" shown are not sold in the normal fireworks stores, and more had been forbidden a few years ago while I think it was not needed to forbid those, but the borders are open, so it just gets imported. If people handled them normally, looked for a suitable spot, keep to the set allowed timeframe and paid attention it wasn't even that big of a problem.
A lot of people that get injured are drunk because they drink in the begin of the night and they later light fireworks while being drunk and then start to do stupid things
My dog loves fireworks , hé looks ad it inside the house behind glass .
Beachfires The Hague are the best
Especially the one in 2018/19.
😁😉
Yes
I ❤ fireworks
But I keep my door & windows closed, have had rockets nearly flying in, and oh my my my, the ER's are crowded😢 ppl loosing fingers and hands, all animals on valium ( literally). Tsja....
All our fireworks come from outisde the nethetlands
Pro tip on surviving on new years is stay inside and watch everyone else
Here you see the extreem situations. Situations I dont get either. We have certain hours we can use the fireworks. (mostly between 6 pm on the 31st and till 2am on the 1st of January, if I am correct.) People have a hard time obeying the rules apparently. We have the timeslot because of the pets. Unfortunately its also the busiest time on the ER because of this extreem situations.
No pyro no party im greeting you with 9 fingers❤
Im no expairt on it but for your information fireworks are set in tiers tier 1 is like child fireworks like small to no bang mostly sparkles tier 2 goes to the wondertollen and small bangs tier 3 goes to sky fireworks like the ones in shows and after that is tier 4 and illigaily brought in which all of the explosions you see in the vidio also tier 1 can be bought at the age of 16 and tier 2 and 3 from 18 4 i think its illigail but im sure the ohter is illigle so im glad you agree whit me that if needs to be responsible whit it :)
its not the legal firework that causes harm its the illegal firework. but thats something our government doesnt understand.
this are the exstreme things what dont happen everywhere, but i agree new year is crazy here and i dont like it so i stay inside with my animals the hole day.
Dear friend. We are suppred all the time and in so many ways p eople need this.
That's what I'm afraid of, the kids living a little 💀
its a bit double for me. on the one hand, i love seeing firework. it is pretty. but that can easily be achieved with firework shows, although you'd have to go to a designated location for that and I like being at home during new years. on the other hand, it is honestly awful for the environment, the animals (dogs and birds especially, but also many others), the people (my mother is dead afraid of fireworks and stays inside all the time). this in my opinion is more important than a bit of fun.
note that you can buy firework from like 5 days in advance. you are allowed to set it off on the 31st only officially, but no one does that. so the misery starts then, and even earier. people import illegal fireworks from other countries (belgium, germany). store it under their bed, for instance, in their garage. stuff that is illegal for a reason. stuff that is essentially a bomb. its a disaster waiting to happen. people are incredibly stupid (as the video shows). give stupid people bombs, and see what will happen. thats basically the case now.
lately bans have been happening. like some cities not allowing fireworks at all last year. but thats local, except for 2020. it is a good thing. things need to change. i have to admit that i miss the fireworks the year it was officially banned (2020, due to the ICUs being full). it felt empty. but i think thatw e can all learn to live with it. it'll be beneficial in the end.
yeah man we dutch are CRAZY
the problem is it being banned all year around for only 1 day its , if the legalize it all year round no one gonna buy fire works after maybe 3 months the fun is over ,its not cheap hobby so there fore many will store it up for new years or a birthday party, so the problem will go away also the min age is 16 not 13 parents are problem
and our fireworks are weak as hell we need higher grade of fireworks to prevent this from happening more often because half of this aint dutch fireworks but illigal imported
also 99% of the so called victems where the perpetrator the ones that set of the illigal fireworks blown of there hand and or put black powder from fireworks or fireworks pistol rounds in to glass jarrs we the firework enjoyers have 0 semphaty for them they got money for a stoopid campaignn its called propaganda
I am from the Netherlands you walk on the streets u almost blow up😂
4:34 Gillende keuken meiden..😂 screaming kitchen girls/womans
We keep the dogs and cats inside everyone knows how crazy its going to be
i think that it should be availeble all year round.
when it is legal that means that it becomes more normal and the extreme parts heardly occure anymore.
just as the soft drugs in the netherlands are tollerated, that leads to less users and less drug addicts in general.
on average there are less drug users per capita than in countries were it is illegal.
the same goes for fireworkt when they are allowed year round
It is dangerous but that is the fun off it
It has been illeagle but most people buy their fireworks in teh neigboring countries
I LOVE IT but now you have to get your fireworks from poland or tsheg republic, the fireworks here suck now
365 days a year in the usa everybody walks around with guns shooting, we only have 1 day hahah
that's why the 13 year old boys are extra dangerious...firtst they do, and later think about what they are doing..some cities already have vorbidden fireworks...more will follow... most extreme firework you see are illegal, mostly sold in the surrounding countries..smuggled over the border and there they go..
Much of the big explosions are highly iligal here. Ive they got caught the punishment is just a joke.
Every year my hate for fireworks grow more and more. It is time people think about what they are doing because i always loved fireworks.
Just go to the Netherlands with new year and you will see it is not like the video, its a bit like it not like a c4 is blowing up your street
What do i think.. well. Hard to ban fireworks if they sell it legally 20 kilometers away from here.
It will all lead to a halt and abandoning of fire works. Hopefully sooner than later.
