We flew at "Point Of The Mountian" in Utah, about 2 miles away from me. When you throw your plane off, there's about a 1500 foot drop off. Talk about scary. If you had to land down there you would have to watch the shadow of the plane to tell how close it was to the ground. Then you made the drive down to get your plane. I never had that happen, but saw it happen to a few people. Look it up, It's one of the worlds best sites for slope soaring for planes, hang/para gliders, etc.
I tried to sloap soar my 9cc, $1000 nitro heli. I took the props off and threw it off a mountain. I was suprised at how well this worked.............0.0001 second flight!!!!!!
I learned to sloap soar before I moved up to nitros. I figured if I destroyed a glider it was cheaper than a trainer plane. That was back in 1991. Big difference between the two.
@petedaws I fly mostly on the Sunshine Coast. The inland slopes are at Maleny or Montville and there is also a club at a place called bald knob. The coastal slopes are everywhere, Point Cartwright, Alexandra Headlands, Point Arkwright, Caloundra, Sunshine Beach, and the best is Rainbow Beach. I have also flown at Hastings Point in Northern NSW and Mt Tamborine on the Gold Coast. Do you have a Skua ??
I am very spoilt where i live here in australia, I have many ocean slopes and inland mountain slopes within 15 minutes drive from home. Sloping is awesome, and with the inland slopes you can also get some good thermals..
@tjtg Hi Mate, I'm in Australia too, always looking for a good slope. Where are these slopes you're referring to? One of my favorites is Skennars Head and Lennox head (watch out for hang gliders though) in northern NSW.
Ok, Seems like every new test fly that I see hobby King perform never goes that great. But, is fun to watch. Not so much on how to fly but more like lets see if even he can fly it. At least there prices are good.
@Hanufan Well the contents itself certainly doesn't bother me much either except for the fact of having seen it already a good couple of times before, but as UA-cam is getting more and more ads these days I really dislike having to wait yet another half a minute before the actual video starts. ;-) I'm not complaining about the quality of the intro, which is definitely great.
4) Don't fly towards the slope until you are confident of your skill. When flying towards the slope, the model picks up speed and may be hard to control 5) It's easier to land when doing it upwind (not with tailwind). Landing a glider with tailwind can b quite catastrophic 6) Drop the motor!
Bixler, you scared of heights? thats so awesome, I'm scared of heights too, but i still got my pilots license.Contradictory huh? yeah others find it wierd, but i think you will understand
The video itself is nicely done but is full of misinformation. 1) DO NOT ballast on the nose. That will make it nose heavy, less responsive, and handle like crap. 2) Get away from the ridge (cliff) you were way too close in. There is plenty of lift. General rule is that the lift band is half as thick as the hill is high. 3) Lose the motor. 4) It goes faster at the landing because you just dove in. Learn energy management. 5) Get an experienced slope pilot to help you next time. Best wishes :-)
Greta video, and thanks for the tips. As usual, I knew just just enough about to really screw some stuff up. Thanks for the gap fillers. :) P.S. Was that seriously a SpongeBob quote? "Bring it around town" LOL! Tim
Nice editing, and good presentation, but lacking a bit in information. If you're going to try and give tips to new slope pilots, you gotta know you're saying beforehand. 1) Adding nose weight will make the plane unresponsive and difficult to fly 2) I see you turn towards the cliff. For safety, and to get advantage of all the lift along the slope, do your turns towards the sea 3) You are trying to fly slope too close to the cliff's lip. This will only cause you to get stuck in rotor
No Sir I have to disagree, I've lost two jobs for being feared by the higher ups, been through a divorce that I didn't want, have lost many a friend to the many ways of death, I've clammered up the hill against all my bodies aches and pains when I was injured but, as soon as that bird is in the air I can and do forget all of the worlds troubles that have come my way so... No Sir I have to disagree with you on this matter, all is bliss whilst my hands are on the sticks! Robert
Robert Shaver That really touched my heart. Today I went slope soaring and I was in peace for once in this week. I just didn't have my mind cleared when I wrote that comment earlier this day. Greetings from Venezuela Robert, have a wonderful rest of your day.
i think hobby king is a good site but the main reason i buy there stuff is because i usually build my planes and i can usually build a cheap beginner plane for someone for about 80 dollars, not 150 dollars, and yes im cheap :P
Well, I pissed myself when I saw servos for $2 each. I've never purchased hobby supplies outside of my country, and the local hobby shops here only stock the major brands, at prices around $30 each.
Please do not do any more "How to" videos if you do not know "How to" do something. This is NOT the proper way to slope soar, most veterans could tell you that. First off, ditch you motor. On a good wind day with a newbie pilot you will never need the motor. Secondly, if you are a newb, you can take the plane further away from the cliff to find more stable air. If the wind is decent, you will find life 300yards or more upwind from the face. I'd type more but youtube is limiting me
actually, you did the landing completely wrong. what you want to do is circle back behind you a good ways, then point into the wind and slowly bring it back towards you while dropping altitude. if you are too high, do NOT point the nose down, pull up to drop airspeed. this will in turn cause you to semi-stall, bringing the plane down. depending on the wind, you can sometimes just float it above one spot, bleeding off altitude by flaring until it touches down.
Nice try...Both of you guys are real personable and that is great. However, some of the misinformation really demonstrates how "power" people don't really "get" slope soaring. Sorry...-PLA
These guys don't know what they are doing and give some very wrong advise about slope soaring. I've been doing it for 22 years and have never even heard some of the bad advise they give before.
@DangerousDan666 Meh, it's starting to annoy me a bit as it's a full 31 seconds each and everytime and I've watched all their movies. :-p Someone should post a skip to 0:31 comment each time.
Slope soaring was how I learnt to fly :) Better than a clunky 3 channel trainer imo, eliminate the throttle instead of the ailerons.

+X-FLIGHT101 for real or not
Yesssss! I'm out there today testing this. What an awesome idea.
Can`t even spell slope smh

That look's fun! This is very informative!
I learned to fly with gliders only by slope soaring and thermals. Only recently I picked up a Delta Ray to learn in powered flight.

If you guys ever end up in L.A. again hit up Redondo and Ocean Blvd in Long Beach!

Interesting spot to fly, where is this?
These older videos had a much better LOOK !

That's Lunada Bay, used to fly there...
Ah the old stonekap productions silhouette intro :-)

I can’t believe I missed this one.... 7/30/2020
Kinetic 800 is discontinued 😢. Lately it seems like a lot of RC flying stuff is discontinued. Maybe it's supply chain issues?
so, is the the Bixler Jr?
wohooo new flite test!
@rcFFBloodyMicks Oh yeah, the spongebob quotes are a recurring theme. Sometimes intentional, sometimes they just come out naturally.
Greta video, and thanks for the tips. As usual, I knew just just enough about to really screw some stuff up. Thanks for the gap fillers. :)

This is now 8 YEARS old now
lol - loved the abrupt landing. Sorry Anthony. :)

Slope Soaring tip... ditch the motor and forget peaceful, get radical!!!
Robert Shaver
And it's kinda hard just standing there flying for one hour straight.

now that the swordsman is fired, they have to find new ways of crashing hobbyking planes
Get a 4 meter scale pure glider on that slope!
@rcflight13 Yup, that's what I tend to do already.
Josh, why don't you give Josh an opportunity to do the whole flying, maybe the craft will land in one piece with nobody hurt?
tell anthony that some random HK fan on youtube named mrfourtysevenman says hi!
slope soarers commenting on this page are mean! If you dont have anything nice to say dont say anything. Thanks for the vid.

@PHeMoX Or you could just click 0:31 on the navigation bar and stop being lazy.
@benybeeJz Yes, it's of great quality indeed and very professional, but I've seen it so often that it has become a 31 sec waste of time for me. ;-)
