  • I stayed at a drive-in hotel, a must-see for vending machine enthusiasts, located in a certain countryside in Niigata, about 300 km away from Tokyo. the hotel was established in 1976, and the guest rooms still had furniture and sundries from that time, giving the hotel a retro atmosphere.
🚫Unfortunately, video recording was prohibited outside of the hotel facilities, so the vending machine area is a slide show with photos.

Traveling 3 hours to show us a hotel in rural japan, thank you! I loved it, the retro feel, and its all real, like time stood still for the place, and not made to look retro. I would go and camp there if I had too for the views alone. Great video!!!

I don't mind the room. It feels like a room in somebody's home. As long as it is clean, I'm ok. The view from the windows is very beautiful.

Thanks for your interesting video. I like the way you always look for the positives. When you eat the noodles, you say the flavours are novel and you never tasted anything like it before, when we all know that really, you just wanted to say it's revolting! I look forward to your next video. :)

I stayed in a hotel just like that in Birmingham UK, at least you could lock the door 😊. Thank you for giving us this glimpse of rural Japan & for eating some of the worst food that I have ever seen.

My old stomping grounds! I wish I had never left Niigata. Such wonderful people and beautiful countryside.
I never knew about this hotel or I would have visited it. The Japanese can do ultra-modern as good as anyone else, but Japanese retro is the absolute best.

That view would of been wonderful to wake up to and see after a night's sleep.

      That's right!
The view from the window is one of the attractions of this drive-in hotel.

Loved the old school arcade machines, too bad you can't record

I agree, the arcade was nice. So you were having to depend on vending machines for a meal? Nice given what they offered.

Let's face it....not everything is a 5 star hotel. I was wondering if/when a channel would show a functional hotel. In the American southeast, we call these 'migrant' hotels. Workers who travel from harvesting job to harvesting job stay at these cheap hotels. Sometimes for a couple of days, some times for a week or so. Then they move on. There's nothing wrong with them. They're just not pretty.

I once had to work in another town for days, and I was at a quaint motel. It was clean, well kept, but no 5-star. As long as it kept me dry and warm and let me sleep, that’s all that mattered. That and it was close to where I could get a meal if I needed it.
