Gah.... That last chord. A noticeable picardy 3rd - WITHOUT ANYONE actually singing the third!!! Ending a chord on an open 5th: The storyteller (clearly emotionally broken), leaves the chord empty, and only God can fill it with hope. Absolutely brilliant arranging, David Wright. Nice work - knowing you were arranging for one of the only choruses in the world who could sing an open 5th, and produce a perfect 3rd with their harmonics on the contest stage. So much to love about this chart and this chorus.
I had the privilege of immersing myself in this performance from the front row ... of judges! In real time, it was even more exquisite than the video. I have never heard a better choral sound than this. And David's stunning arrangement could only have been handled by Zero8.
I love how they stay quite still for most of the song, with the emotion showing mostly on their faces. It makes the moments of movement all the more intense.
I have never realized what a good song that is, 'til now. The music, the chords, amazing chord progressions, (especially 3:19 - 3:48) and lyrics...everything about it. This arrangement is exquisite. So moving. It takes talent to convey a series of feelings with music. And contrasting emotions. Anguish, then hope, then anguish... I really wanted to hear that minor third there at the end. But no. I'm still dissatisfied! Then again, that adds of the anguish...the missing part in the heart.
That is the most wonderful version of this Brel's song I have ever heard. It's so heart-warming to watch all these marvelous singers perform with so much passion, like if they sing for the last time. Congratulations to the arranger who gave so much wonderful harmonies, and comforted my wish to create a barbershop choir... ❤❤❤❤❤
Holy buckets! I've heard many covers of this devastatingly stunning song... THIS one is the one. The one that takes an iconic, cherished classic and turns it so sublimely it's as if it's being revealed for what it truly is for the very first time. These guys❗ ❤🔥🎯🔥❤ The attitude, commitment, depth, honesty, emotional investment, the physical movement ... ALL of it was undeniably guided by a unique, inspired vision yet carried out with such absolute precision, so perfectly on point I can't help but wonder why it'd never been presented this way before. I'm still trembling. THIS is the power music holds... The connection is core deep and I so very grateful to all involved for unleashing this breathtaking piece of art for the world to share. ❤❤❤
First time I have ever heard a Jacques Brel song arranged for Barbershop... leave it to David Wright! And an amazing performance by Zero8 - Gratulera till alla!

I don't know what any of that means, but I agree.
Great point. If that‘s intentional (and I have no doubt that it is), it is one of the most subtle interpretational choices I‘ve ever seen.
After the ump-teenth time of watching this video, I also just noticed a quite apparent 9 in that last chord as well. Superb
Yes, it’s amazing. The ears really want to fill in the major third, solely from the harmonics.
Mon dieu quelle beauté d entendre ces tessitures vocales bravo jamais entendu un groupe pareil

Thank you so much Brent!!
Fantastisk vakkert å høre på dette flotte sangkoret synge denne berømte sangen og nydelig tekst.

3:52-4:07 is just CRAZY good!
I think we may look back at this year and say that this was the year that zero8 started to really become competitive for gold

@ranhar1 I don’t think we will ever hear a chorus sing Jacques Brel’s ‘La Chanson de Jacky’(Jackie) 😂
What a sound!

I mean, Rasmus is directing, Emanuel is definitely in there. So that's half of them right there.

Ah yes, the new barbershop sound, with melody in the high part.
