Finally a video with closeups taken from different sides. Was really embarassing to know how to take it apart and reassemble everything back yet not understanding how to install it. I didn't realize pushing the lever over the middle is an actual thing - thought it would break something. Dropping a big like for this one!
You don't have to use both cables...use the USB cable to use the AMD Wraith app to control it (more options), or use the ARGB cable to use AMD Mystic Light and sync it with your other fans. Don't use either and it will light up with a default color scheme.
You made what can be a worrying process clear and straightforward. Thank you for taking the trouble to include close-ups; they are very welcome. Great job!
The Wraith Prism is one of the most visually and aesthetically pleasing air coolers that exist. I bought one and installed it on my Ryzen 5 3600 instead of other aftermarket coolers. I've also bought a Noctua NH-C14S to use in the future because I genuinely prefer top-down coolers over tower coolers thanks to the Wraith Prism. Maybe you could do a review on the NH-C14S and the Noctua NH-L12S which are also low profile coolers.
Thanks for the great how-to, Mike! If you haven't used this type of retention mechanism before, it can be bit intimidating. Also, it is great to see a primer on how to use the RGB on the fan.
@@mikesunboxing you should of explained that the usb lets you to control more when plugged in . lets you change the ring, fan, and AMD logo , and is more customizable.
The mighty Wraith Prism cooler, wish I had got one of these with me 3600 instead of the Stealth kewler. Damn easy to install and can still perform too....noice. Thanks for sharing, Mike and Kath.

Thanks for helping me out, after redoing the thermal paste I was afraid of damaging the cooler so did not do it which resulted in temps up to 95 degrees but after watching your video and seeing that indeed you have to apply force to lock it in to place it dropped my temps back to 55/60 degrees,
Thanks for this video it's been very helpful. One thing confused me. Did you leave the dotted paste on that came with the heatsink? Then added the thermal paste on to the cpu, using the combination of the two?
Good tutorial Mike👍 glad i dont have one of these as too many cables (no idea why either 2bh) as my mb only has one usb2 port which is for case front panel. I swapped cooler master evo fan for c/m rgb fan and still only two cables for functionality! Keep up the great work👍

Just bought a 2nd hand PC with this cooler. Thanks for the walkthrough. It appears that mine is installed upside down. It seemed to work though. Hopefully it won't cause any issues.
6:27 I was bit worried about that click because I never heard it before on my AM3 MB. Building an AM4 PC I heard it but this video makes me calm knowing it's normal. Also I was a bit afraid because with the sliding platform leaves a gap in relation to the one below, not matching it when the CPU is installed and this video shows this very clearly.
@@mikesunboxing Actually I'm still trying to adapt a stock AM3 cooler to it. I would have to put a huge amount of pressure to make It's metal latch lock into the mount bracket of the MB. It has coper and heatpipes and so I want to use the same model on AM4. I will try to trim the base of the "V metal latch" of this cooler to get it lower so it would lock the two sides without effort.
I like of the care and detailing in this video. Actually I'm here because I installed a "classic" hyper tx3 evo on my new x3d cpu, and I'm a bit worried about the mounting pressure it exerts on the mobo. I suspected this cooler, installed in the same way, with a lever and the brackets, bent the mobo. Sure, the am4 mobos come with a proper robust backplate, but I'm still a bit scaried. Seeing the video I noticed the screws have a good depth on them, so I loosen them up a bit, enough to not prolong beyond the backplate. What do you think? Too much worrying for nothing?
Amazing video, thanks for making it it definitely makes installing this cooler less stressful. The only problem I have is that the retention arm is in the locked up position and no matter how much I trying to push it down to flatten it it just doesn't is it ok like this? I know its working due to my temps being 35c with light use and 60c under heavy gaming
Good video. Perhaps do a follow up video on how to remove that cooler & cpu. I bought a 2700x cpu and installed it with this included cooler, the new motherboard was dead, I accidentally bent a bunch of cpu pins while taking off & reinstalling the 2700x on another new motherboard. I hadn't installed an AMD cpu in a long while, since the AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE. It was a refreshed learning lesson, I gave the 2700x away to someone who managed to bend back the pins and get it working and bought a Ryzen 3600 instead, it's still working.
Very helpful video. The cable management looks a nightmare, it would have been better the sockets on the cooler being at the top and the cables being long enough to go behind the case. I'm going to have to creative to hide these cables as much as possible.
I have one somewhere not in use as I find them a bit noisy. Btw, I just replaced the stock cooler on my 2400g by a low profil Snowman. It is doing good, even got a few fps more after long run of Horizon chase turbo 😁. And I received my Asrock b450m - hdv I got for 55$ on Amazon. It was a deal warehouse stating acceptable condition but only the box seems damaged. Inside, everything is there, and the board is wraped like a new instead of the momified one that Amazon do when repackaging! Still debating if it will be the 2200g, 1500x or the 1200 that will go on that board.
Its amazing (ironically using that word) that I cant seem to find that type 2 header usb cable, neither amazon or Ali express, please a help with a link or something? Thank's anyone, it is the only way to use Custom RGB lightning for this cooler
I'm having so much trouble finding something that matches the look and performance of these stock prism coolers. i know for sure i can swap it out for a tower cooler that will drop temps more than a few degrees but the look of a chunky metal tower cooler in my case feels like an eyesore IMO. Is there anything you know of that matches the style and look of the wraith coolers but also drop the temps a bit while not being overly expensive? I've also been checking out some noctua low profile heatsinks that i'm thinking i can just swap out the fan for an rgb one but that seems more costly for just a small reduction in temps. What are your thoughts on just keeping the prism or maybe even modding it for better cooling?

maybe someone can help me please. I installed everything according to this video (used both cables), but I cannot change the color sheme of the outer RGB ring. I press "apply settings" in AMDs wraith prism app, after closing the app, the ring lights up in factory mode (rainbow). Also tried to use MSI Dragon Center, which works with every other RGB I'm using with my PC, but the fan RGBs just won't work like I want them to.
i bought ryzen 5600g when it was released and specially for it purchased wraith prism, because its rgb is awesome and cooling ability is enough for me. i only hope that these hooks on plastic brackets on the mobo dont break, because it will be not pleasant if cooler will fall of and damage something, especially when there will be videocard under it need to notice, those cables for connection rgb is shitty, not easy to disconnect them without pulling by the wire and make it rip off from the connector. also, i dont see a reason to use usb rgb cable. i need my cooler to be synchronized with mobo rgb, case fans rgb and ram rgb, so 12pin rgb is the only choice
I'm using this on my 5950x with a x570 aorus xtreme. I do have 7 fans and full tower. I use the precision boost and xmp ..my max temp was like 71 degrees. It's been good for me so far
Nah, it is just as well, bc likely they would suck just like their stock coolers do, LOL. Since the better Intel CPUs come w/o a cooler, people are free to choose their aftermarket cooler with or without RGB. Coming with a decent stock cooler has always been a big attraction for people to AMD CPUs. It makes good sense in a cost/benefit analysis.

@@tommyriordan870 Would depend on your motherboard so this is maybe easier to fix or at least advise if we can ask more questions and get direct answers, so feel free to join our Discord chat and we can go over it in more detail discord.gg/gaeeDPw
hey what is that cooler in the back round?
sahara gaming ex 360 aio, we reviewed it a while ago, nice cooler
maybe someone can help me please. I installed everything according to this video (used both cables), but I cannot change the color sheme of the outer RGB ring. I press "apply settings" in AMDs wraith prism app, after closing the app, the ring lights up in factory mode (rainbow). Also tried to use MSI Dragon Center, which works with every other RGB I'm using with my PC, but the fan RGBs just won't work like I want them to.
try with just the USB cable installed and the coolermaster software
@@mikesunboxing it worked! thank you so much!!!!
@@sr50xTuning The Cooler Master software is brilliant, have you played with the mirage effect for the fan LEDs yet?
hi can i use both cables on the cooler at the same time
if you want to, although the USB type covers all the options
thank u so much, i was suffering
Glad it helped!
Would this cooler fit the old AM3+ socket?
it might do, it uses the same latches
i lost the usb and rgb cable can i buy it somewere or i cant
easy to get them on ebay
Second
Thanks for watching, Reece :-)
is this the same for AM5?
mostly yes
When I tighten my cooler locked, my computer refuses to start.
too much pressure
Can anyone tell me if the standard thermal paste on this cooler is any good? Or is it better to remove it, and put some grizzly on it?
grizzly would be a better choice for even mx4 / mx5
Cool, thanks!
Did I miss the moment he switched it on so we could see what it looks like ?
no you didn't
i bought ryzen 5600g when it was released and specially for it purchased wraith prism, because its rgb is awesome and cooling ability is enough for me.
i only hope that these hooks on plastic brackets on the mobo dont break, because it will be not pleasant if cooler will fall of and damage something, especially when there will be videocard under it
need to notice, those cables for connection rgb is shitty, not easy to disconnect them without pulling by the wire and make it rip off from the connector.
also, i dont see a reason to use usb rgb cable. i need my cooler to be synchronized with mobo rgb, case fans rgb and ram rgb, so 12pin rgb is the only choice
thanks for the comments
cable rgb 12v can't use with app Wraith Prism
@@tungnguyenthanh5175 maybe
but there is a cable with 4 pins and it's working
Mine won't go under the other notch almost like it's too short
try the clip but flipped over and back again it might be hitched up
@@mikesunboxing got it working now
@@ClassicCityMinistry Glad to hear it 🙂
Is there software to program the RGB?
yes on the coolermaster website and amd site
@@mikesunboxing thanks!
do you need to apply thermal paste?
it if hasn't been done already , yes you do
this could cool a 5800x reasonably well, right? (The wraith prism)
if the case has good airflow and you are in a lower ambient temp room then it will get you by, but that CPU can get rather warm
I'm using this on my 5950x with a x570 aorus xtreme. I do have 7 fans and full tower. I use the precision boost and xmp ..my max temp was like 71 degrees. It's been good for me so far
@@tbreeze79 Thanks for the info :-)

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
EXCELLENT SHOWING😊
To bad intel don't make rgb fans :-(
Nah, it is just as well, bc likely they would suck just like their stock coolers do, LOL. Since the better Intel CPUs come w/o a cooler, people are free to choose their aftermarket cooler with or without RGB. Coming with a decent stock cooler has always been a big attraction for people to AMD CPUs. It makes good sense in a cost/benefit analysis.
i wonder what Intel's GPU coolers will be like? and will there be third party intel cards?
@@mikesunboxing OH NO !!! i din't think about that !!! Dear God :-/
♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
My cpu is still 53c on idle
that good be good or bad, you left out some key information, like what CPU you are using
@@mikesunboxing amd ryzen 7 5800
will it cool a ryzen 5800x
not really, in a pinch it will work but i wouldn't recommend it long term
@@mikesunboxing then what one will u recommend that's easy instead of 4 screws I did not buy it yet
Man I hate AMDs AM4 mounting design.
it isn't great but much better than the intel method
If i do not want that light up anything it's enough to install only the pwm?
correct
thanks so much!@@mikesunboxing
Thanks!
No problem! thanks for the super! much appreciated
