Bloody RGB ! Apart from that the Stock wratih cooler is a great little performer for those who dont do much overclocking. Can be a bit noisy under load but for free its a great kewler. Thanks y'all.
I like to think I'm in the more advanced camp, but I'm not immune to mistakes. I appreciate the detailed video even though its on something simple, especially when it's on newer technology. Thank you! About to do an am5 build and want to avoid simple mistakes. Plus these videos just get me hyped up 😊
Very interesting seeing how am5 differs from am4. Enjoyed the tutorial and look forward to monitoring prices of am5 kit this year. Btw dud u hear manufacturers blame us for 40% slump in ssles of motherboards!! Nowt to do with thrir price rises and our worsening economies🤔 Thanks Mike and Kath for great content 🐈👍
Thanks and I'm in the "I can't afford to screw this up" camp. R9 7900, Motherboard came in just under $900 Cad. Long gone are the days when you could run a K6 450mhz for half an hour with no cooler at all after dropping it on the floor a few times. Also, 2 header cables for RGB means find a place for them both to a lot of people.
Cheers Mike. Always useful to have these reminder videos Mike! The first time I used an AMD prism cooler I thought I was going to snap the bastard! Far easier to install it outside of the case.
well done guys, not a beginner lol but for all those that get the Ryzen 7600, 7700 and 7900 non-x versions of the CPU there is simply no need to get any other after market cooler because with the latest bios on all boards its almost impossible to get it over 80 degrees any more so a water cooler looks great but zero performance gain will be gained as Mike says artic MX4-MX8 OR COOLER MASTER GEL-PRO V2 FOR £6 MAX each is a much better pairing best to do this every 12-18 months or check temps using HWINFO and take a screen capture at first bootup so you guys have refference points.
Thanks for the video, I need to rip out my x470 /5700x and replace it with a Gigabyte B650 /7600x. and I had planned to use my Wraith Prism RGB cooler from my 5700x, which came from a 3700x back in 2019, it does a good job on the 5700x when tuned as to see 4725 -50Mhz gaming and 64c using Corsair XTXM50 paste. So the plan is to use the Wraith Prism RGB and running in Eco mode on the 7600x, I got a good deal from Best Buy on the cpu and board for $289.98 and 32Gb of DDR5 5600Mhz for $79.99 with AMD Expo, kind of hard to say no when Starfield was also free!
What would be fun is to compare stock amd cooler vs stock intel cooler. Using the ring that comes with Snowman cooler or any cooler that come with coolers equiped with amd clips, you can literraly mount the stock amd cooler on an intel.
thanks very much for this video. was having issues with attaching this heatsink. it's important to know which is the unlock position, otherwise it will simply not attach
If you carefully prize off the shroud around the fan, you can get at the screws to turn the fan part through 90 degrees, relative to the heatsink. The shroud can then be put back on, you will hear it click, with the 'lump' at the top. Maybe Mike could do a video.
In general I find stock coolers pretty poor. Even low cost 3rd party cooler tend to perform better but better than nothing I suppose 🤣 Appreciate the video - as you say no doubt someone will find it useful. And a belated happy anniversary 🎉
I tend to agree with you. The wraith stealth is pretty poor and I was disappointed to see it provided along with Ryzen 5s. The prism and spire are much better. Actually usable and way better than anything I’ve seen from intel
@@evers6214 The Stealth sounds like it's about to take off at times! And as for the ones Intel started supplying with the 12th gen, I was optomistic at first but they're just as bad. Practically e-waste imo.
Thanks for the assist. I've been completely out of the hardware game since AM4 was the latest and greatest, and google wasn't much help with answering if I could use a Stealth stock cooler in a pinch.
Hey, I’ve just completed an am5 build and reused my wraith prism cooler from a few years ago. Followed the steps in this video, making sure to apply thermal paste, however my CPU was hitting 96 Celsius during a BIOS update. Any idea why this might be happening? Dodgy paste or maybe not enough used? Cheers, thanks for the vid.
Hey! Thanks for the video! I’m building my first PC in years and needed to be 100% sure of everything. I’ve got a small question though, is an AM4 Wraith Stealth/Spire/Prism cooler compatible with the AM5 platform? Is the mounting mechanism the same?
AM5 Prism install is just as difficult as AM4 :) .... why can't they make that cooler screw down? Would be so much easier. It's a very effective cooler to be sure (I have one cooling my daughter's 3600) but they definitely could have made it easier to install.
I might get am5 once i sell my 12100f/6700xt to a great friend of mine Do u think the wraith prism sufficefor ryzen 7700? I plan on doing game on it with occasional handbrake encode 12:54
I hate so much this amd coolers pressure things that I looked for a video to find out how people install it because I struggle to align it, they should just use screws for all coolers
Come on , are there really people who moan about a "How To " video being too in depth? I am sure there are help lines they can talk to about their issues Personally i thought the video was perfect
🤔 so that 4pin RGB plug, I assume with that plugged in you only have a choice of RED LED's to light up the cooler? and What about that USB Plug Header, so if you use that I assume u don't need to plug in the 4pin rgb plug,, and what does the USB offer you? Does the USB offer you ARGB Rainbow Color Options? And finally why didn't they offer up a 3pin ARGB plug so you can easily change the colors using a case button and/or a hub and/or the motherboard 🙂 thanks for the noob video
the RGB 4 pin allows the colours to change but only the whole area at the same time so no rainbow effects like addressable RGBs, the USB connection allows lighting like that
I wish AMD had just added a little lip at the front of each of the lips so when you are trying to clamp the prism down, it would prevent the latch from sliding off the end of the plastic hook. It would make it a lot easier installation wise. 😹
Phenom AM3 coolers had copper base and heatpipes. AMD these days took the cheap way. Also was much easier to install. These AM4, AM5 look a mess like the Intel ones.

I was unsure if the old Prism cooler would fit the AM5 Ryzen 5 processors so I thank you for this video confirming it will fit. Keep up the good work.

motherboard prices are part of the problem, you just can't upgrade a platform now without serious financial outlay

I found the AMD logo`d lump on the side can interfere with ram installation with some of these AMD coolers so mount them with it away from the slots.

dodgy paste or uneven mounting pressure
Do they come with pre applied thermal paste?
yes they do and i would recommend removing it as soon as you can before it sets like glue

Bro, do you know if this cooler is compatible with 7800x3d? Thank you, you have brought my old cooler back to life!
it will work but likely to see some thermal throttling under heavy loads
If 7700x and 7700 have the same price, is it worth more to get a free cooler or the performance difference and go for 7700x would you say?
7700x offers a little more performance headroom, and the stock cooler isn't great for am5
