    I have a 160amp alternator and I've never been able to get decent output from the 120S and 250SE combined. Best I've ever gotten was 35 amps going to my service batteries.
    All connections are 1/0 full copper connections, several in line fuses etc.
    Tried to bypass fuses to see if they were the culprits, they were not.

    I have loved my CTEK D250SA for the last 4 years. However, CTEK haven't kept up with technology or user demand. Their D series chargers max out at 20amps unless you get a smart pass that apparently gives up to 120amps from alternator (too much for most systems). There's no Bluetooth connection or app for monitoring the charge status, you have to buy a wall mounted system monitor for that. I have very very reluctantly gone over to Victron. I would have loved to upgrade my D250SA to maybe a D250SE if it had Bluetooth monitoring, a 30-50 amp charge profile and access to settings which can be precisely set for your specific system. Modern Motorhomes/RVs demands have outpaced CTEK.

    Hi, I have the D250SE and the wiring diagram shows the service battery negative returning to the starter battery negative with a ground halfway along. Does the service battery need to be grounded and returned to the starter negative or can it be one or the other? Also there is no recommended wire size, can I assume that it should be the same as the wire from the starter battery to the D250SE?

      Hi, The connection is showing a common connection (to the chassis) the service battery can be earthed / grounded to the chassis.
      The earth / ground cable should be the same thickness as the starter battery to D250.

    Hi, just installed Ctek B250se. Without connecting the ignition wire. When i start the van the yellow bottom led lights up and the bottom right yellow led lights up. And the voltage on the leisure battery increases. This would suggest the Ctek is charging . So it seems to work without the ignition wire connected , Even though i have been told i have a smart alternator. My thinking is the smart alternator sees the starting battery as a bit low and therefore starts charging it. Then the Ctek sees the higher voltage and starts doing the DC to Dc to the leisure battery and therefore pulling the starter voltage down enough for the smart alternator to keep supplying a higher voltage and therefore current to the start battery and leisure battery. So i am struggling to understand what situation will cause the smart alternator to stop charging and therefore not trigger the ctek to do DC to DC until the leisure battery is charged. Also when the engine is switched off, the Ctek sees the drop in voltage and switches off the DC to DC conversion and both LED go out.. So it all seems to function as expected without the ignition wire connected?

    • @CTEKBatteryChargers
      @CTEKBatteryChargers  3 роки тому

      Hi, Even when the ignition wire is not attached, the D250SE will work. It will start as soon as the voltage is higher than 13,1V and shut down when the voltage is lower than 12,8V The problem when you have a smart alternator is that the ignition is turned off as soon as there is power enough in the battery to use for the electronic components. This can happen many times every second, and this makes the D250SE start up and close down often. even if the voltage in the battery is raised it is not charged as effectively as possible. If you have a start stop vehicle I recommend you to attach the ignition wire. Best regards CTEK Support

And now I have to choose battery for my system.when I read recomedations of manifactures they said that below 100 ah you need D250SE with SMARTPASS. Hi, Thank you for choosing CTEK! You can definitely have the D250SE for a 110Ah battery. BUT!... if you drain your battery completely and you want it charged up fast, the 20A from the D250SE might be too little - and if so - we recommend you to have the SMARTPASS120S as well. But it all comes to how drained the battery gets before you can charge and how many consumers active whilst charging. For more info - contact support@ctek.com Best regards CTEK Support

    I'm having trouble with my d250se at the moment, my alternator is giving out 14.5v across starter battery when the ctek isn't connected, as soon as I connect the ctek back up, the voltage across my starter battery drops to 12v, this is with or without the leisure battery connected. I am finding my starter battery keeps draining. The only thing bugging me is, the red smart alternator cable is connected but I think I may not have a smart alternator, would this be my problem. Hej,
    Mvh / Bart

      Hej. Här kommer svar på dina frågor.
      1. Ja, det är pin 9.
      2. . Stämmer
      3. Nej, det är ju ingen större mening. D250SA laddar med upp till 20A och det räcker och blir över till de ca 15A som kan gå igenom pin 9 och 10.
      Lycka till

    Hi there, I have 2 CTEK chargers (1x D250SE, 1x D250SA) installed in different cars, both with a solar panel connected. After I had a start battery go flat I did some investigation and noticed that the CTEK charger is discharging the start batteries intermittently. (You have to watch it for a while to catch it doing it, but it seems to happen more frequently when the solar panel is partially shaded) I have spoken to CTEK tech support and they're not able to give me a suitable response why this would occur. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

    • @CTEKBatteryChargers
      @CTEKBatteryChargers  Рік тому

      Hi, Thank you for choosing CTEK. It can be a bit tricky to find out the problem with this information, but lets try some basic. Please check that the thin red cable (for Smart alternator) is connected to ignition (KL15+) I know that In some cases there has been a lack of reverse voltage diode on the solar panels and then the starter battery can be drained, because there is always a small voltage on the solar panel input on
      D250 that seems to come from the starter battery. If it's dark outside and the reverse voltage diode is missing the power goes out into the solar panel and drains the starter battery if the reverse voltage diode is missing. If this doesn't work - please send your question to info@ctek.com for a better dialogue. Good Luck. Best regards CTEK Support
