So what I took from this was:
1. Andy is a really hard worker.
2. Andy has faced some pretty beastly demons.
3. Andy made brave/scary choices.
4. Andy makes the world a better place.
Well said!
Andy… congratulations on your sobriety. As a father who stood next to a hospital bed and watched my oldest daughter breath her last due to alcoholism, I can tell you first hand how addiction can destroy people and families. Again, congratulations and peace.
Big love mate
I believe one of the reasons you resonate with me and so many others is you are a genuine person - and it comes through in your content. Your candor and straightforward manner is a breath of fresh air. Congratulations on your sobriety and success.
Wow, thank you
Yes! It’s exactly this.
Now we need the story of how you and Caitlin met!
Andy your sobriety is such a huge achievement. I admire you even more now. You deserve all the success that is happening to you. Woah, 14 million that's half of Australia :)
It's total 14M, that doesn't include inactive followers, people who follow him across multiple platforms
Chef Andy is just a goat. Literally no one can hate or dislike this man at all for any reason. Culinary titan, humble down to earth, helpful and insightful, and overall just a cool guy. Helped me with questions I had for content creation as a much smaller creator which was surreal for me and holds 0 ego or bias. A true inspiration to all chefs, content creators, and everything in between. Thank you chef 🔥🔥🔥.
Anyone else feel like this video is like talking to an old friend you’ve known forever? Love it..
Thank you Andy. Youve reignited my passion for cooking. I spent many years in kitchens where I was unhappy. I've found that spark and started to cook again. Thank you Legend
Pretty refreshing to see a comment section filled with positivity. Gotta love it. Congrats on all your success 🙏🏽
Thanks for your life story! Peace. I'd love to cook with you one of these days.
I'm an untrained cook. But I am passionate about what I do in the kitchen. I have plenty of failures, due to experimenting with unknowns, but I have successes too. And I'm learning every day. You, Andy, are a source of inspiration for me, and for that you have my gratitude.
Hi Andy Great story congratulation on your achievement
shout out to o St Ali for looking after you during your troubles very rare in our industry
Really cool video. Interesting to see how you became who you are, and hats off to you for getting on the wagon and staying on.
One thing i kinda miss about the early days of your channel is when you used to dk a bit of outdoor/camping cooking. That was great, especially seeing all the gear you have. Im quite the passionate home cook myself and i also love camping so seeing those combined was always fun. Would love to see some more of that again.
Those videos were always fun to watch. Seeing Andy cooking up a feed for his camping campanions. Remember when Andy helped with the Hungi in New Zealand, really enjoyed that. It's good watching the kitchen cooked content, but also a lot of fun to watch cooking in the outdoors.
Andy as we say here in Cornwall, you’re proper job meht! (You’re brilliant mate, or suchlike). Really glad I found this précis of your experiences & background. Since I discovered your UA-cam channel the other day I’ve gorged myself on your incredibly informative videos. I love cooking but there are very few (in my experience) ‘proper chefs’ who go out of the way to simplify things for us mere mortals who want to make good looking & tasting food. And as someone who’s fallen in love with the spices & flavours from the 4 corners of the world I love the variety of your dishes.
And on a more personal note; bloody good job hauling yourself back from the abyss. Many of us get there, not everyone saves themselves.
Keep on cooking bro!
hello chef,
first of all thank you for acknowledging my question, learning about your journey was incredibly helpful to me personally.
secondly, thank you for being so open about it. i really feel we as your audience can feel the personal connection with you.
i am completing my degree in tech rn and I really really wish to do something in the culinary field. I feel blessed in a sense to have a person like you to lookup to and also be inspired by.
Again, thankyou for doing this I hope I can cook with you one day.
My pleasure mate
Good on you Andy, admirable. I was a cook for our family restaurant and it’s hard not to enjoy a drink after a hard day’s cooking. Keep on keeping on. Enjoying your vids immensely. Love to you Katelyn and your wonderful crew. Mariella❤
Chef, your content inspires millions. Your humility and honesty only adds richness and authenticity to your entire persona. Deeply appreciate what you do.
Massive congrats for you to openly talk about your drink problems mate. Having been there myself and not too keen on talking about it, it is comforting to see how successful you are in your career now. There is more to life and thankyou for the content it is always top notch 👍❤️
Andy congratulations on your sobriety. And thank you so much for what you do on UA-cam you have shown me so good was of making an old recipe and give it a kick or even other things you can do with basic protein. Thank you from Illinois in USA.
Hi Andy….such a wonderful video, thank you for sharing your history….I commend you 1,000% for raising your hand and asking for helping with alcohol!👏👏👏👌👌👌….you are in inspiration and role model for so many!!⭐️⭐️……I so enjoy watching you cook….I wish you continued success!😁😁❤️❤️
I chat to people about the Indonesian Cafe scene being on par with Melbourne and no one believes me, but it is thanks to people like you and Toby's Estate! I am so proud that our cafe/coffee culture has taken off in SE Asia.
Tobys is the best!! Their origin story is so good. I used to be a regular of their main store in Sydney and having the option of an iced latte from Tobys in SEA is so freaking good. Beats Starbucks every day of the week!
I love watching you cook.
What an excellent supplement to the main channel. Really these are great. Thanks for sharing.
The most honest (sometimes hilarious) CV I’ve ever read. You get the job!!
Congratulations on your sobriety! Thanks for being so open! Really interesting hearing about your job history
Thank you so much!
Congrats- you have a great format and this is the perfect role for you. Love the shorts.
One thing is I loved Andy's way of delivery on the videos back during lockdown times, since then I've been a religious follower here, I like how he's eased us into the journey he's had, he's the absolute legend, we are here to read this book called Andy. I remember when they said with Cate we have amazing things lined up for 2023 they really delivered. Hats off to the crew, and Andy this has been an interesting journey I'm ready to continue with cause I'm cooking everything he does since 2020🤙🏾 peace💫
I love that you have the insight to know where you messed up in the past. And even more impressive is your willingness to acknowledge those moments publicly. It’s an interesting and inspiring story. Wishing you and your team continued success. ❤
These just keep getting better and better enjoyed this one the best of all
Finally, the video we've all been waiting for :)
Congratulations on all your successes.
Was looking forward to this video all day. Interesting journey. Congrats on the sobriety dude. Well done keep it up love the content Andy
Thanks for sharing and your honesty. I enjoyed listening. ☺ God bless.
Congratulations on your success Andy. Stay well, and happy. 💯🌻
Andy, thank you for all of your videos! i think all the different styles of shorts and longs you make are fantastic, credit to you and the team. I just wanted to say that you are inspiring beyond home cooking, you ooze hard work and anyone could tell you are driven from a mile away, food isn't my profession anymore (although this story made me kinda wish it was😂) but you make me want to be the best at what i do now, so for that, thank you!
Thank you immensely for being so honest ❤
You truly are a legend! Keep doing what you’re doing!
Great video Andy. Enjoyed your paths from past to present and continued success. 👍
OMG Andy, I've looking up chacuterie boards so vey much looking forward to the video. Thanks for being so open about your journey. St Ali sounds like the type of place we all need when we reach critical mass, so glad you were able to get the support you needed.
Loving the flow of vlogs. Much appreciation from Wellington. ❤
Great story Andy. Keep it coming.
Andy, Chef and Legend! Wise words wisely spoken, thank you so much for you honesty, for sharing your life story and for sharing how you got to where you are now. Kudos to you Legend! for being brave enough to let us into your world! Peace and Much ❤ to you, all of the team and Ducky
Brilliant!! Thank you so much for sharing!
My pleasure
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this video Andy. Your story is a beautiful one! I am thankful you let us all get to know you on a more human level 😊 Keep up all your hard work!
Thanks for sharing your journey.
Great insight into your life mate. So honest, not many people would share this. Obviously Katelin is your rock. Bloody great choice to move to the Sunny Coast. We did it 7 years ago and just adore this place and the lifestyle. Only problem is the lack f good restaurants down ere in Caloundra. It seems you have to travel to Noosa or Maroochydore for good food. Sum Yung Guys is a fav of ours. Rice Boi for a quick Asian hit. What's your go to when and if you get down to Caloundra?
Thanks for sharing. Interesting to see your progression of what you knew, you wanted from a early age.
Legendary story mate. You have so many followers because of your authenticity and humility. And your cooking abilities, which you perfectly articulate to the home cook. Congratulations mate, you deserve all the success
Thank you for sharing this and congratulations on your sobriety!
So good mate ... love love love your content
I guess I didn't realize that when I stumbled across your videos on tiktok that it was right at the start. I'm glad to have watched this part of your journey unfold. I've cooked several of your recipes and have many others on my to come list.
If you ever plan a visit to Toronto and have a meetup or a signing, I'll be there!
Awesome!
Your transparency is amazing and appreciated. Congratulations on your sobriety, Andy!!
Thanks for sharing your story Andy!
Thanks for listening
Crazy hearing about St Ali and your time there, especially with all the stuff online about their antics during Covid and the owners personality in general.
Good on you for realising you had an issue with booze and for doing what you needed to do to sort yourself out 👏🏻💪🏻
What a Legend! Big up, Andy!
Absolute legend and superstar!!!
Thank you for sharing your journey. It is amazing how driven you are. Also, congratulations on your sobriety. You are obviously dedicated to it.
I'd like to ask when you met Kaitlyn? I probably butchered the spelling, sorry about that. I am a home cook who actually gets to cook for a dear friend to keep them from always eating at restaurants and fast food places. I am paid for it. Lucky for me. I am currently dabbling in curries and Indian cuisine. I enjoy watching you cook. I enjoy watching your wife and you in these new Back of the House videos. Thank you for your sharing. ❤😊
Great story and very inspiring. Keep up the good work and I wish you all the success.
Thank you! Will do!
👌 Thank for sharing Chef! 😎
Congratulations on 55k subs. Road to 100k subs
Look at you now.
Cooking
Traveling
Eating
Building your own house
❤
Andy I use to troll some of your videos. I would leave childish messages. After watching this and listening to your story I was in tears. I am truly sorry and I would like to congratulate you on your success. I’ve been sober now for a decade and I respect your decision to get clean and from having found courage and clarity. Once again, I’m sorry.
Looking forward to the charcuterie board episode! I always make one for NYE, so I'd love some new inspiration!
Love both your channels Andy i remember one morning you were on Triple J this year or last can't remember but you telling the story of you basically cooking everything in a Cafe with 2 x sandwhich toasters those things are bloody amazing 😂😂 well done you deserve all the success you have worked so hard for Tried your homemade chip recipe on the weekend awesome 👏
Much appreciated
You’ve already made my Christmas Day better knowing I can tune in for some nosh mang
Love all of your stuff Andy!
I actually thought you came from the tv show ‘Ready, Steady..Cook’ 😂😂
Love this channel Andy, very chill. Christmas day will be a great day to post - everyone will be bored on their phones after a few hours of the in-laws :D
Can't believe Jamiroquai was practically a flat mate. Keep up the great work!👍
Great video mate and thanks for sharing your story 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
The Bear is a really good TV show that gives insight to what it's like for a chef, but honestly by the sounds of it Andy had even more coming. Super highly recommended show, left me in awe.
What a G, greetings from Germany
Congratulations on your sobriety!! Really like your videos.
Best video you’ve ever done
And I like you even more! An origin story that is honestly self reflective. I can see now for multiple reasons why you were not excited about me talking to you about booze 😅
An amazing journey, and as a quasi kiwi Queenslander with 15 years of hospo behind myself, love you work!
Leaders lead teams of people, managers manage equipment and material. I would follow a "true" leader but resent being "managed" as I am not a piece of "equipment". Having said that 1500% respect for the open personal history you do inspire me and your book "ROCKS" we are trying some of the meals and loving them.
You’ve literally done the tour of where I work around now. Company I work for is just round the back of Ladbroke Grove but when I was cheffing I was over in Harrow.
Wholesome as.
definitely looking forward to the bants in that video
You must have cooked my lunch once at Gill's Diner! When I went back later it was gone and my whole family were seriously disappointed. Also have coffee sometimes at Dizengof these days. Love from Auckland!
I still want to know how you afforded that lake front house
I subscribed for the view
Congrats on getting and staying sober, you find out who your true friends are.
Gills Diner ...how cool i used to Dine there when in town..was good stuff
A vinyl lover too? Awesome! I reckon you've got a rotel and a project. Nice combo.
You and Casey Neistat are the only Vlogs I spend my time on - thanks for sharing! Story is king
Been to most of those in London Andy!,
I have eaten in most of the restaurants you've cooked in, (in London) probably while you were there. I used to live 3 minutes walk from the Eastern, on Coronet Street across the Blue Note. The Eastern was a regular Friday night spot and I'm pretty sure I remember you.
What an interesting life story you've had Andy. I really enjoyed hearing it . What I learned:
You were really skinny at 16.
You have never had long hair.
You were smart and brave to recognize your alcohol problem (and do something about it).
You've always worked hard and recognized your limitations.
You are a legend.
P.S. the carbonation and sugar is probably making your mouth/throat dry (and giving gas). Sipping cool water is best when speaking for any length of time. At least, it works for me.
Thanks for sharing your story.
Have you thought about doing a live cooking session? Maybe something that could be done in your new kitchen since you said that the internet is better there.
Interesting, was that Babylon under Ian?
Another great video, interesting you were in London then, never worked in a kitchen but was around hospitality then and it seen far too many people running only off cigarettes, booze and coke.. it's good to hear you've got clean it's never easy.
Babylon/Kensington Roof Garden was such beautiful space but an utterly uninspired menu and terrified FoH, never a good sign. I have incredibly fond memories of E&O a decade or so ago, small world, great tempura/black cod.. mainly remember drinking away many a Thursday there. It seems to have pivoted to much more a neighbour restaurant last time I was there, lots of families, which is nice to see.
I don't think the chefs name was Ian (but i can't remember his name so might be hahaha )
Wow!!! warts and all.......... Thank you
My pleasure
Mighty Car Mods also do a Christmas special for similar reasons. I appreciate the thoughtfulness of creators like you. Cheers!
good on you
этот канал становится все более и более интересным)))
Awweome Korero Andy :)
Congrats on the journey! How did you learn such a diverse skillset from different countries?
For your example knowing how to make authentic Taiwanese dishes. Do you do the research, make them about fifty times to perfect it and then make the video?
It was Phil Wilson! Great days at The Orange, well done bro.
I studied at the same place as you bro. AHCTS Khyber Pass Road 😊 Class of ‘96
What a great story, sounds like you have had a really interesting time. I love watching food creators to get inspiration for my own cooking. Thanks for the video!
Good yarn
