This was the first video game I’ve ever played my entire life, it led me to Rayman, Zelda, Smash bros, Harry Potter, final fantasy etc…. It still is looks outstanding today, definitely a masterpiece.
the music in the castle brings back so many memories for me bc I was too young to actually be good at the game so I would either just run around in the castle all day or go swimming in the water by the castle. I can’t believe I forgot about this game lol.. I also remembered it looking a lot better than it does ha

@JohnRC Yes, I remember the day the N64 released. Luckily I didn’t have to wait in line because my grandfather owned a electronic store so he just gave me one for free! I remember I played SM64 and I didn’t have a clue where to go in peaches castle! But when 3D All stars released I just had nostalgia coming from every end of my brain. And yet SM64 is still a masterpiece. SM64 and LoZ OoT are this generations Super Mario Odyssey and Breath of the Wild.
@JohnRC I could never agree more. My friends always went with PlayStation because of the “Graphics.” Like my best friend said that he wouldn’t play the game because Mario’s nose looks bad. But anyone who played this game (And finished it) can’t deny the game is a masterpiece.
I was 12 years old and went to Target one day with my family. Back in those days, the way you checked out the latest in videogames was to go to the electronics department of any giant retailer like Wal-Mart or Target and they would usually have the latest games available to play as a demo in the electronics department. On this day in particular, my dad and I are headed to electronics and we notice a LARGE crowd gathered around a display with a TV and "something" catching the attention of everyone being shown on a TV screen. We join the crowd, and immediately I notice on the screen something I've never quite seen before??? It was this game. Mario 64, and the 1st time seeing a fully 3D world, with multiple camera angles, and of the times of 1996...the best and most amazing graphics!!! I remember vividly a kid younger than I was, was playing the 1st level, and him running around, jumping and flipping, and then entering a canon and blasting himself in the air and flying in the sky with a flying cap. Both me and my dad were completely BLOWN AWAY!!! I remember my dad saying "Whoaaaaaaa!!!! Now this is the coolest damn thing I have ever seen!" and a guy next to us went "RIGHT!? It's incredible!" MY MOUTH HUNG and my eyes had to have been bulging out! I remember saying "DAD CAN WE GET ONE OF THESE!!?" Not knowing the name of the system or game or anything. I even remember looking at the controller and thinking it was "something from the future!!" He said "Yea...this is too cool!! We''ll have to get this one day!" On my 13th birthday later that year I remember my mom walking into my bedroom and saying "Hey! So your dad is gonna be home from work here soon. Come in the living room and wait until he gets home, he has a birthday surprise for you!?" I was thinking it was going to be the Sega Genesis game Comix Zone because I rented that game prior, fell in love with it and asked for it for my birthday. I see his truck pull into our driveway. When he got out, he had in his hand a large bag from Toys R' Us. I was confused at first. He walked into the door, I rush him, say "Hiiiii dad!!!!!! What's in the bag!!???" He allows himself to put his stuff away, goes into the kitchen, puts the bag on the table and says "Ok! So...I just want you to know that I got this not just for you for the whole family, It was very expensive, but you've done really good in school, have been really good with helping your mom with chores around the house....SOOOOOOOOOOO....go ahead and look inside. I remove the bag and boom.....NINTENDO 64!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ever see the famous video of the kid freaking out on Christmas when he got his??? What a great story. We truly lived through a fun time transitioning from pre-computers/consoles to this new world. Super Mario 64 and Nintendo set the bar for gaming during that time period. I could feel the nostalgia in your story.
I still have not forgotten the feeling of the first time I got my hands on a Nintendo 64 kiosk in the Fall of 1996 at Kay Bee Toy Works and playing the footrace against Koopa The Quick for the first time.....I can remember it like it was just the other day.....the sense of awe from what I had played before, to that, has remained unmatched to this day.
I DIDNT LIKE GOING AFTER 100 COINS. TOO NERVE RACKING. MADE MY NERVES ON EDGE. I ESPECIALLY LIKED ALL THE SWIMMING IN THIS GAME. THEY SHOULD PUT SWIMMING IN MORE GAMES. I WISH THE GRAPHICS HAD BEEN CLEARER ON THE N64 THOUGH THEN THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN BRILLIANT.
Brings back so many memories. I would remember just swimming and running around in the castle. My dad knows how to install this game so I might be able to play the best game of all time in 2021!
So true, my Nintendo and ps1 gaming days were when I was similar age back in lithuania, the only words I understood were "start, restart, exit, save and load" but somehow managed to complete the games.
I just showed this to my sister who is 14 and i didnt expect to be hit with this much heartwarming nostalgia. Thanks for posting this, its nice to be able to see this online.
I remember when this console first landed at my house. We just jaw dropped at the graphics as it was a game changer. I remember playing this and was amazed at how detailed and huge it was. When I found out I could jump him through the pictures my head almost exploded.
I’m almost 30 now and remember playing this when I was about 8. Oh my god. Where has time gone?! This vid is so nostalgic - the good old days. Thanks for uploading.
When I was young I played this almost daily. Some levels were so hard that in the end I only got maybe 70ish stars and never saw the end. Nice to see everything till the end.❤
Same thing for me, I didn’t get all the stars as a kid, I did the backwards stair glitch to see the ending. I went back to it in my late teens and got all stars. Some stuff was hard to figure out like in “wet dry world” the higher you jump into the painting, the more water level raises. Which unlocks more areas.
Me too I use to have this on a Nintendo man I tell you and I use to play it all the freaking time I don't have it anymore by I won't to get another one.
As I write this, NintendoofAmerica just posted on their Twitter that Charles Martinet is officially done as Mario's voice actor. His voice will forever be remembered as THE Mario voice.
This was the first Mario game of the 3D era, and they did an amazing work! I remember the feeling of adventure I had paying this masterpiece as a kid. This one of my favorite games of all time! 🥰♥️
Watching this is so calming for me. My brothers had this game on the N64 when they were kids, and I remember watching them play it and even sometimes playing this game myself. 64 was one of the first games I ever played. Now my brothers are all grown up, one's 27 and the other turns 25 in November, but now that this game is on the Switch, I get to relive those amazing childhood memories
This bring me back Oldskool, I remember playing this when I was of 7 years of age, I collected the total of 120 stars. And looking now for searching at it at 33 years old. Good times 💯
That´s it. I´m done. I´ve been a long time in this nostalgia place, watching those old games from my childhood and feeling a little depressed, a little lonely, but also protected and safe, because this is a place there I know and I am familiar with. It´s really good to be here, I will never forget those golden moments of my childhood, playing those perfect games with my friends and having lots of fun. Life was just perfect and I will forever carry those days in my hart. But I must move on and search for something new, I have to get out of this comfort zone and look for diferent things. I have to try more, risk more, break old habits and build a hole new life. Blessed be my childhood, and all of those nintendo games that ware so important to me, still is and forever will be, but now is time to change. Goodbye my nintendo brothers, and God bless you all.
Best game ever. I remember sitting in front of my parents big screen tv in the living room as a kid, with allll of my friends around sitting on the floor eating pringles, playing this game. It had just come out with the N64. This game was the best looking game out at the time.
My kids played this game for hours, brings back good memories of the mid 90's, I forgot so many of the music and sounds from the game, hearing them again is bitter sweet. Thank you for posting this.
Oh ny god, the good old days, I remember that I used to play this, turn the Nintentdo 64 off when my parents said that I had enough and then watch Mtv all day...
So much of the challenge of this game comes from how much harder it was to control your character accurately compared to modern video games, so much fun
This game is completely nostalgic to me. I played this game when I was around 5-6 years old, playing it all day and having fun. I even remember when my parents had brought food home and I was STILL playing even when I was trying to eat. This game was a massive part of my childhood and I enjoyed it too much and I'm glad I enjoyed it too much. Like 6 minutes earlier I was watching a video and it had this games music in it and I said to myself in my mind "IS THIS FROM SUPER MARIO 64???" and so I search up Super Mario 64 and it was. I love this game.
Last holiday season, I passed this game a couple times and on one of them I went for the 120 stars and got to meet the homie Yosh! I still love this game after all these years. Definitely one of my favorite games and also one of the best gaming soundtracks ever!
I will always remember the first time I saw this game. They had it playing in a mall and saw a big crowd around the tv. When I got close and I saw the game, I couldn’t stop looking. Nothing impressed me more than seeing SM64 at the time. The fact that the animation was so good, the 3D and rich environment ... I remember Mario climbing a tree and it was glorious as basic as it may sound now. This game was revolutionary. People who weren’t born at the time may not understand the impact this game made. For me it was and is truly a masterpiece, and I am not much of a platform guy. The N64 was worth buying just because of this game.
My first game I ever had too. You need to try playing it while you’re tripping balls. I dropped 2 hits of potent liquid LSD (tested) while coming down off a dissociative. I had the best trip ever that night, I seriously sat there and played it all night, and into the next day and night. Everything in the game was tripping me out so hard, not to mention the nostalgia trip I was having at the same time. I really believe Nintendo intended for people to play it while tripping on a psychedelic. Just the way the graphics look alone when you’re tripping, they truly compliment your visuals.
Every time the Staff Roll song comes on, I silently start singing the Charles Martinet Tribute song to it. Thank you, Charles, for breathing life and fun into games and making them memorable! ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾
This is one of the greatest games if all time, and it totally deserves a sequel that takes everything the first one had and adds to it. I'm just not sure if it would have the same charm... The NDS remaster was great though...
this comment is old, but you mentioned bowsers laugh, so I have to bring it up. did you know that the boo's laugh is the exact same as bowser's laugh, just sped up?
I remember when I was little I used to just run around in the courtyard and in front of Peach’s castle, without a care in the world. Just staring at the screen for countless hours locked up in my own fun-land. This was a legendary game….
I can't believe I'm watching this game get done in 4 hours when this game felt like it took my entire childhood to only half ass beat, I didn't get all of the stars for shit lol
Hasn't even been that long and I'm already reminiscing about playing this masterpiece for the first time. It was during the first months of distance learning in 2020. I'd literally play this for hours during online video courses. Beautiful game
I just played this game as an adult and I have to say wow. What an amazing experience for one of the pioneering 3d games. The level design and gameplay was amazing and I can see how so many people have amazing memories associated with this. I can also see how Nintendo is such a successful company. For all its childlike animations and characters the detail was amazing... I simply cannot get over the animals in the water. The manta, the shark, and that dinosaur... It's almost like they had a personality of their own, Amazing! I cannot imagine how that must have felt like as a child. Just coming back from school after seeing these animals in your textbooks and then seeing them in the game. Just... Amazing!!! It's really weird to say this as I've kinda looked down upon Nintendo and their audience but this really is one of the best games I've played.
Man i miss my childhood. Between this game and Super Mario World on SNES were my favorites. Still are to this day probably. Just watching some of these scenes brings back so many memories 25 years ago(Im 36).
“IT IS AGAINST THE ROYAL RULES TO THROW A KING OFF THE EDGE!!!” Who wrote the damn rules for some 5’2” plumber fighting some damn big stupid ass ball in a goddamn crown anyway…
In my opinion, there were 6 games that made it cool and dope to play Playstation and N64 in the late 90s. I mean there were others, but these are the 6 best for N64 and Playstation combined. Resident Evil 2, Super Mario 64, The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time, Final Fantasy VII, GoldenEye 007, and Syphonfilter.
As a kid I never really knew how to play this game, all I did was swim the river surrounding the Castle and called it a good day.

I’m almost 30 now and remember playing this when I was about 8. Oh my god. Where has time gone?! This vid is so nostalgic - the good old days. Thanks for uploading.
When i hear this song feeling nostalgic and teary thanks mario for being part of our childhood days
Same :(
Thanks for your opinion. I'll put it next to the other ones I don't care about.
I played this for the first timr when I was 14. I'm 37 now😭
Liar
When I was young I played this almost daily. Some levels were so hard that in the end I only got maybe 70ish stars and never saw the end. Nice to see everything till the end.❤
Same thing for me, I didn’t get all the stars as a kid, I did the backwards stair glitch to see the ending. I went back to it in my late teens and got all stars.
Some stuff was hard to figure out like in “wet dry world” the higher you jump into the painting, the more water level raises. Which unlocks more areas.
I just saw 10 years of my life simplified in 4 and a half hours. How nostalgic ...
its been 3 years
I miss this game so much 😭
it's really bad when it's over
I have it on my Wii U
Me too I use to have this on a Nintendo man I tell you and I use to play it all the freaking time I don't have it anymore by I won't to get another one.
You remember you played this game??
Do you have an n64?
Miss those days, when my brother used to play on the n64

As I write this, NintendoofAmerica just posted on their Twitter that Charles Martinet is officially done as Mario's voice actor.
His voice will forever be remembered as THE Mario voice.
Is nobody talking about *Peach having singular rooms dedicated to one or more paintings !?*

I don't know how Peach cooks her cakes, she doesn't even have a kitchen

Perhaps in lethal lava land
What if paintings were before like a portal to some mushroom kingdom colonies or something?
Wait wasnt bowser the one who put the pantaings their?
Barely a minute in and this game is already so nostalgic

This was the first Mario game of the 3D era, and they did an amazing work! I remember the feeling of adventure I had paying this masterpiece as a kid. This one of my favorite games of all time! 🥰♥️
Started playing this for the first time this morning at the age of 35. I can see why it was so well received.
the thing i love the most abt this is how mario and all that are designed it has a way and its very unique and its great missions :)

Watching this is so calming for me. My brothers had this game on the N64 when they were kids, and I remember watching them play it and even sometimes playing this game myself. 64 was one of the first games I ever played. Now my brothers are all grown up, one's 27 and the other turns 25 in November, but now that this game is on the Switch, I get to relive those amazing childhood memories
wait super mario 64 is on nintendo switch!?
@@arrainojosa747 ya 3d all stars
This bring me back Oldskool, I remember playing this when I was of 7 years of age, I collected the total of 120 stars. And looking now for searching at it at 33 years old. Good times 💯
I used to play this game 5 hours a day at the age of 8, now i am almost 40 and I am lucky if I only get to play it 4 hours a day.. lol best game ever!
bruh super mario 64 was created in 1996 wtf
@@PewPewRew lol it’s a joke lol I was 7/8 when it came out;)
the game was created 26 years ago, meaning you are 34 or 35 not 40 lol
@@ticko009 I was just joking around, such a good game. You are right though! Spot on
It fills my heart with joy seeing new Super Mario 64 videos nowdays.
That´s it.
Hey, I don't know you, but I am in a similar spot as you and you don't know how much I needed to read this. Thank you.
Just play botw with your kids ( if you have any ). Its a win win

Sometimes I would just have Mario jump off into space
Just to hear him yell 😂
Oh ny god, the good old days, I remember that I used to play this, turn the Nintentdo 64 off when my parents said that I had enough and then watch Mtv all day...
i missed so many stars playing this as a kid haha
this was NEXT LEVEL gaming when it cameout. We were so used to 2D classic mario this was a game changer, literally
I love this game
For some reason, this game just never gets old
I will always remember the first time I saw this game.
I remember being at the mall watching TV's with new video games playing...you brought back a great memory..
Using this to help me remember how to play and I’ve never felt so comfy and happy
Everytime Jolly roger bay music plays my soul starts transcending from my body 😌😌
Same, I would just swim around and listen to background music in Roger bay lol 🎵😎
I find it amazing when people run these games in about 4 hours when I remember it taking me atleast 1 million and 1 hours as a kid atleast.
Finally you did a whole play through on Super Mario 64
I remember buying the 64 and this game the day it came out. This was one of the best days of playing video games ❤️❤️
It’s so weird to be a zoomer who had this on the DS and have massive nostalgia for this game
I will never forget the memories i made as a little kid playing this with my three siblings on a Saturday morning.
Most bad ass game I ever played growing up... watching this video brings back so many memories
My very first game I ever had!! Brings back so many memories!
I remember always being scared of the spider level as a kid💀😂
Bro here's one thing: mairo. to me: thank you so much for playing my game Mario: thank YOU SO MUCH YOU LITTLE PIECE OF SHIT
I’m nostalgic missing the old days playing the video games with my brother this brings me peace
Thank you so much for making this and uploading it! The way the stars are collected in the right order was truly therapy for me ! ♥️
Best game I ever played as a kid
I agree
Most definitely
This video will soon be number one on trending
Every time the Staff Roll song comes on, I silently start singing the Charles Martinet Tribute song to it. Thank you, Charles, for breathing life and fun into games and making them memorable! ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾
This is one of the greatest games if all time, and it totally deserves a sequel that takes everything the first one had and adds to it. I'm just not sure if it would have the same charm...
The NDS remaster was great though...
Dude I remember playing this game on my Nintendo DS, its so nostalgic hearing the old bowser laugh too
this comment is old, but you mentioned bowsers laugh, so I have to bring it up. did you know that the boo's laugh is the exact same as bowser's laugh, just sped up?
I remember when I was little I used to just run around in the courtyard and in front of Peach’s castle, without a care in the world. Just staring at the screen for countless hours locked up in my own fun-land. This was a legendary game….
Bomb-omb battlefield background theme is so damn iconic
I can't believe I'm watching this game get done in 4 hours when this game felt like it took my entire childhood to only half ass beat, I didn't get all of the stars for shit lol
It took me forever
I’m just watching mario gameplays today, I’m bored and have nothing else to do.
Omg same XDD
Me too

Hasn't even been that long and I'm already reminiscing about playing this masterpiece for the first time. It was during the first months of distance learning in 2020. I'd literally play this for hours during online video courses. Beautiful game
Even for me, a late 2000’s kid, the nostalgia is real. I grew up on this game on official hardware, thanks to simply having older brothers.
I have nostalgia for it cause the day care center I went to had a N64 with this game lol. I was born in 2000.
Thank you so much for taking the time to do this! It really brought me back! You're a awesome player!
Ya
I love those old 3d games, they are so unique

Thanks man. This brings back good memories. Never beat it as a kid because I didn’t know how. Thanks again!
Man i miss my childhood. Between this game and Super Mario World on SNES were my favorites. Still are to this day probably. Just watching some of these scenes brings back so many memories 25 years ago(Im 36).

Never got past that part. Went back to Super Mario World then Paper Mario 64.
