    Always be very liberal with sealant the reason for this is when sump is torqued up the squeeze out over time will become loose owing to heat and oil wash and get ducked into the oil lifter again same problem
    And you'll be wondering how has that happened put a good amount of thought to this as it can cause major problems actually the gasket should be enough because the sealant put on like tooth paste is not a good idea a properly torqued sump with new gasket should be enough

    Nice Video. Very clear explanations. I have Audi A4 2.0L TFSI. Oil pressure kept coming on. Had an engine flush, oil change with oil filter replacement and oil pressure light still comes on intermitten. How would I access the oil sump if its directly above a sub frame approx 1" gap? Unmount/lift the engine in order to drop the sump? I want to see if the oil pickup is blocked. Not sure its called a sub frame but it runs right across underneath the width of car, in the way of the oil pan. Any help would be great.
    Thanks

    • @pr0xZen
      @pr0xZen 5 років тому

      Lower the subframe. But IIRC those engines have a very serious oil pump drive wheel/cog flaw, and early ones have a key insert on the pump axle. When any of those fail, you lose instant oil pressure, but the switch don't trigger below 2500-3000 rpm. No oil pressure = blown turbo, and eventually seized engine. If the cog fail, the internal chain drive comes off, and slams around wrecking havoc.
      There was a service bulletin on this, on pre 2010 cars, make sure yours had either a larger oil pump axle fitted, larger drive cog fitted or the pump mechanism was converted from chain to cogwheel drive.

    Don't forget to properly torque the sump bolts to spec, usually with a torque wrench rated for inch-pounds (1/4" drive), and in the proper (star-shaped) sequence like wheel bolts. Fail to do this, and the seal may not last long -- I had to do the job again after torqueing by hand the first time.

      You need to get a ball ended hex key, don't do it with a normal one.. Ball ended ones you can open it at an angle

    I have a 08 Vauxhall Astra with around 26k miles on it. What mileage was on the car in the vid, and what mileage would you recommend or age would you do this on my own car. I have also come to the conclusion that when you do an oil change, you dont get all the old oil out. You would definately get all the oil and sludge out this way, but a bit ott for an oil change.

      Its more preventitive work that symptomatic. If you have not done it in a while, its a good idea to do so.
