    It's always good to have proper information. I have checked out my 71 Nova to death and it's no special car to some but to me it is as it has some odd things about it that you can see on my channel. Thanks for the update and look forward to your next episode..........

    I have a 71 307 auto car, 3 rd owner. I like the appearance of the SS badging so I added it after I swapped the all the running gear. I added a 383, M22, & Dana 60. The car has a pretty stock appearance inside, even kept the bench seat when I added the manual. Look at it from the side down low or underneath and you see the major changes. I put the car together for me and plan on keeping it, just makes me happy :-) On a side note to help determine if your car is a SS, I believe the fuel line for a 350 or bigger car is 3/8 where a 307 and smaller is a 5/16. Chances are if it has a factory 5/16 fuel line it is not a SS, Just my .02 take it for what it s worth.

    My 1969 Nova SS is the real deal. It is a L 48. I found the fisher body sheet in the backseat. I now have a documented Nova SS. Original HA block and 041 heads. This car is a M20 4 speed. All interior is original. Bucket seat console car. What a dream.

      That was probably a COPO car. Although most were factory 396 cars. It is the same type that were turned into Yenko cars. Ridiculously rare. Like less than 50 made.

    I just wanted to thank you and the other guy on the internet for spreading this crap about it's not a true ss. All this is doing is just helping to devalue all Nova ss cars just because they don't have the original paperwork to prove it. 52 years ago when I bought my first 1970 Nova ss right off the showroom floor, I never thought there would be guys on the internet accusing people of making an ss because it would be much smarter and cheaper just to buy one that was already built from the factory! . I was one of those guys who didn't pass along the window sticker or bill of sale. I'm as much as an authority on Nova SS as you or the other guys are and I was around when they were being ordered and built either before you were born or were in diapers!
    In my opinion you and the other guy are overlooking one obvious indicator that the vehicle is a true ss. Yes, someone could be dumb enough to spend the money adding front and rear ss badging and the console with gauges, and the woodgrain in the door panels on the 1971 and many of the other items that you say they could just buy it and add it on but a true ss would have the v8 engine indicated on the firewall tag but it would also have the factory mounts in the wheel wells for the factory mounted dual exhaust that only came with the high performance 350 and 396 ci engines. There are very few of these cars that the original engine has survived so just because you put a fresher engine that doesn't have matching numbers doesn't change it from a true ss to not a true ss ..........it's just not a numbers matching vehicle!

    • @Shop209

      First, I don’t make the rules. Too many people have tried to pass off fake SS cars over the years. There are verifiable ways to PROVE a SS car. Then there are ways to be wrong about it. I don’t care if you like it or not. Facts are facts. If you can’t prove it with paperwork or the original engine then that’s too bad. They’re not worth much without original engine anyway. The cowl tag never proves a V8 car. The VIN does. It is very common for the cowl tag to show a V8 11427 car but the VIN shows 11327. The VIN is always correct. I’m just sharing correct information. Sorry you don’t understand.

    If you're ever in Minot, ND and see a midnight blue metallic 4 door 69 Nova with a 307 and Appliance wheels, that was mine. As a poor Airman, I couldn't afford to put anymore money in it when the transmission started to go. Still think about her because she was my first in 1983.

      Word. I was planning on 275/60/15 in the rear but because I went with a 5.0 BS instead of 5.25 or 5.5 BS and didn't want to turn my shocks inboard I could only stuff a 255/60/15 in the back. The Nova forums have way too many people second guessing each other or saying, "Well my cousins wife's brother fit such and such" that's it hard to figure out the truth from the bull crap.

    I have a documented SS car. There are things about real SS cars that we don't want the cloners to know about. That way when the rubber hits the road and money changes hands we can spot a fake within a minute or two and save heartache in the long run. Good video for sure.

      @@Shop209 As you stated, without documentation, the assumption is fakery. I would hate to have the real deal car and not be able to prove it. Thats where the friction comes in. Are the majority of the repop rear SS panels made of plastic ?

      I’m not sure, I know of a clone that has some real SS parts on it. It’s not hard to prove it isn’t real since it has a 11327 vin but if someone didn’t know better the money could get real. The real problem is when someone is selling a fake and don’t know it. Then refuse to believe it.

  • @RacerXGarage
    @RacerXGarage 4 роки тому +1

    This is a good overview of the way too common question for sure. Definitely seems like there are more SS's out there than were originally built. Would like to add one thing, 1968 you could only get the 350 as a L48 in an SS. All other small blocks optioned were 327/307. Suffix Codes for the 350 one 68 Nova's were MN (Automatic and A.I.R.), MS (stick) and MU (automatic).
    Not sure if that changed in 69, but 68 350 was an SS only option. Been wanting to do a video like this as well, good job!

    I have a 70, and there is one option that ONLY came on SS and was not available on a non SS Nova. Dual exhaust. So behind the tire on the driver side frame rail there is a factory welded tag where the exhaust hanger was mounted. Plus from what I can state from research, ONLY SS Nova's had a fuel return line from fuel pump back to tank. Can you verify this?

    • @Shop209
      @Shop209  8 місяців тому

      The exhaust hanger plate on drivers side is SS only. The fuel line isn’t necessarily.

    Where would the build sheet be? Would it be be under the carpet or seats. I have a 71 ss that has a 4 speed bench seat, 350 270 hp, 12 bolt, rear defogger, and power disc brakes. Thanks.

    • @Shop209

      It could be under the rear seat or on top of gas tank. There’s also a body broadcast sheet that could be there. It would have some info but maybe not all.

    Question, if my car (a 1971) had a factory mounted rear sway bar with the F41 suspension package, isn't that a pretty good indicator that it's a real SS? As far as I know from 70-72 that option was available only on SS cars. Does that sound right to you?

    • @Shop209
      @Shop209  4 роки тому +1

      Well, maybe. I’ll explain why, with the SS option in 1971 you would get the F40 suspension. The F41 suspension was an option. There were 1370 cars in 71 with F41 option and 15,238 cars with the F40 option. However there were only 7015 Super Sports built in 1971. So clearly there were cars ordered with the F40 and non SS. You’re correct though, from what I know it was an SS only option. Although you should have other indicators. Power discs, VIN needs to start with 11427 not 11327, if engine is original it should be an SS only coded engine. Dual exhaust plate welded to drivers side rear frame rail. There should be a ton of clues. Not just rear sway bar. It just depends on the person you’re trying to convince. If you don’t have original drivetrain it has the value of a non SS even if it’s real. Thanks for watching.

    • @M2fiftycal
      @M2fiftycal 4 роки тому +1

      @@Shop209 it definitely doesn't have the original engine, but it does have a 11427 vin, factory power disc brakes, 12 bolt, etc., so there's plenty of indicators. I have a couple novas. One 70 project car I had up for sale but was bashed on Facebook by people saying it wasn't a real ss etc. ( I didn't list it as such nor did I care just listed the options it has) It is a 350 4 speed car. I dont have the original engine. Has factory bucket seats, factory dual fuel 3/8 line, both dual exhaust brackets on rear frame rails. 12 bolt, power disc brakes, factory ss hood with the extra support tabs for hood louvers. And as you say here there's no 100 percent way to prove it ( car was priced at 3000 so for all those parts I wasnt trying to get rich) but heres why I feel the car is real is the fact it has the F41 suspension package. It has the Rear sway bar ( pretty small diameter in my opinion) with the factory end link mounts made into into the trunk floor. And a larger front sway bar. Which from all my research I am seeing was only available on the SS models and was rare even then? Do you have any information on that by chance. I removed the car from being for sale because it was causing tons of arguments between the group members on there. The only place I havent looked for a build sheet was above the gas tank but figured thats a stretch. I didn't want to part the car as I felt someone could keep it all together but the hassle with selling was too much for facebook but was thinking about just ebaying it..I'd build it but I have too many as it is.. Thanks for the video.

    • @Shop209
      @Shop209  4 роки тому

      Thank you for watching. It definitely could be a real SS. I don’t understand why people bash cars that others are trying to sell. If someone is misrepresenting a car I can understand. If someone says I think it is but not sure, they’re being honest. I know F41 suspension was available without SS on other years but not sure about 1970.

    From my understanding you can do custom order cars from Chevy but you have to do it OEM spec. Example if someone went to a dealership and asked to order a 69 Camaro built to the Exorsist Camaro spec Chevy would build it for them.
    I'm trying to get a Corvette Humvee hybrid of a GM Cyclone with a TPI 307 and Z Ratio Muncie 4 speed and AWD system out of a Trail Blazer SS.
    I want it low with all wheel indipendant suspension set up like a WRC Rally car.
