Loving my V20, which I have just got. I have to say though, that my Stenheiser $80 in ear headphones kick the crap out of the Bang and Olufsun ones that came with the phone.
Mr.Wilcher U.S but it can already do more than a phone without one can. 5 favorite contacts. 5 favorite apps. Quick setting toggles. Music controls. 5 most recently used apps. What else would you need it to do actually?
I feel I'd use that 2nd screen a lot, especially with the flashlight. I wish it would turn off the display when not in use though, and turn on when you touch it. I feel that'd save some battery.
I know this might be a bit late, but why in every review no one ever talks about the difference from the V20's Quad Core processor from the V10's Hexa Core? And how it could have been better if it had been upgraded to Octa Core, like every flagship phone in same generation irregardless that the V20 still clocks faster because of its more updated OS. Can anyone comment on this?
JuanBagnell Any ideal if we can get the LGV20 in UK. If not, can you please influence LG to market it in UK. They want listen to me, but your popularity and extraordinary audience can move a mountain. LG could make millions.
I ran a test run of the microphones on this bad boy, facing the front of the screen 12 inches away from me, hit record a vocal run, then played the recoding through my music studio play back system speakers. The V20 audio sounds very GOOD. A little sizzling in the high frequencies, which I am being critical about but it's not bad. The lows are pretty tight, the sound is open and clear, does not sound muffled or muddy at all....
From lgg3 i went to ip6plus coz the v10 is wasnt release or rather they release it after 8months(but i love the v10)..but this time i will get you v20 even your not available in EU.
JuanBagnell Well, they seem to have caught a lucky break with the cancellation of the Note 7. They have an opportunity to sell more of those, but they also ought to not go too far with their marketing material, something that Motorola and LG (in India) may have gone a bit too far in.
this mic quality took me by surprise waiting for a comprehensive review of the overall features and how it stakes up.now that note 7 is out of the race can lg please step up advertising this phone .thanks juan.....gr8t review as always....
Hot damn that was a good twist showing yourself recording with the V20. The quality is indistinguishable from how you would normally record audio with your other videos. I think I found a worthy replacment to fill my void which is the Note 7. RIP buddy.
I really had some fun with that. I was shocked how well it came out. It's a little boomier than what I usually use, but mixed in just as well. Very impressed.
Just bought my V20 and I'm loving it, coming from S6edge+ so not a dramatic difference performance wise, but none the less, I am absolutely loving this device.
Juan, here's a little interesting info. The native resolution on the V20 is shot in a 4:3 aspect ratio because it uses an entirely different sensor. The G4, V10 and G5 used a Sony Exmor IMX234 (1/2.6" 16MP) while the V20 uses a Sony Exmor IMX298 (1/2.8", 16MP) If that's familiar, it is the same camera sensor used in the OnePlus 3. That might sound discouraging because the sensor is the same one used in a $400 phone, but the V20 has access to more tricks and goodies up its sleeves, so photo quality should still be pretty good. Oh, and the mic quality on the V20 is surprising. It sounded a little different than usual, but the overall quality was impressive.
I can DEFINITELY hear some difference, a little boomier over what I usually use, but I was VERY pleasantly surprised how well this mixed into my normal work flow. Thanks for the heads up on the camera sensor. I was trying to find that.
JuanBagnell Yeah, it sounds pretty good, especially for a phone microphone array. And no problem. Can't wait for that real camera review when the retail units arrive.
is there a difference in image quality. i am an lg user. i had the lg g4. the camera on that phone was a beast it took amazing photos. but when i bought the g6. i took some shots with it and i was so disappointed. the g6 has a smaller sensor. i just dont understand why you would use a worse camera on a newer phone
I'm thinking of buying this for my gf. Should I buy this or no? She's still rocking her Motorola X Crazer. (If no one know's what that is, its a cool ass flip phone)
Make sure she's not gonna freak about how massive it is, flip phones are way easier to carry around. Plus I'd say maybe think about getting some sweet headphones for the high res audio (but the phone costs close to a grand so yknow)
Do not surprise anyone with a new phone, make sure they actually check it out first. Remember this is a phone we are talking about which is something we carry and use pretty much every hour.
koolyo2foots We went over to t-mobile, and checked some out. She wanted an Android OS phone, and liked LG's variant. She said she wanted the LG V10. I kinda lied and told her I didn't have the money,(which she was totally fine with) because I'm hoping this thing releases some time around the end of November or Early December. So I wanted to surprise her with a New Gen phone. I then thought of making this comment for your guy's opinion. So, 1 on 1, do you think I should buy her the LG V20?
Nicely done. I've heard November 7th or something, not totally sure, but IF you have the money I think that would be really sweet to go with the newest model
Yeah. Been disappointed that Apple hasn't improved there. Can't even record stereo audio in video. If any company could step that up it should be Apple.
Ross MK And the bummer is, the iPhone audio isn't bad. It really isn't. It's just "good enough" which is more disappointing from such an expensive phone.
kanishq ruhil totally different looking phone. I think both look great for what they are. I think the way the phone feels in the hand is more important than looks, which is why I prefer the all metal design of the v20
Matt Doiron I found the design of v10 as more distinct and less utilarian. Form over function. In black and golden steel border and camera ring (don't know if that was a customised) instantly reminded me of ghost rider
kanishq ruhil And with nougat in V10 battery life and performance have improved a lot V20 is not a worthy upgrade. Audio and camera quality are nearly identical even performance is now, only 200mah bigger battery on V20 that's the only real upgrade besides a dual camera. You'll never notice the performance difference it's so small because of nougat on V10.
The mics are better than expected, fantastic video as usual from Juan, the V20 is an important leap and an upgrade in every aspect, sadly, last year's SD808 was never worthy of the V10, and so far I'm really digging this one, I absolutely love the no compromises removable battery
After experiencing the bootloop issue twice with the V10 (first with the original purchase, then with the replacement), I'm offically done with this phone. And I'll be damed if I'll purchase the V20, because the same thing is bound to happen. You know what? I'm done with Andriod completely. Once I get my second replacement V10, I'm trading it in for the iPhone 7 plus.
have had my LG V10 for a few Months Now and it has worked Great for me. am a Causal User of the phone not hard core like some might be using it and having everything turned on with a ton of apps running in the back round and i love the Camera its great along with the video Quality. Battery Lasts Me all day unless i have the media player going for a few hours.
great video I just have 2 questions I can't seem to find answers to, does it have APTX HD like the G5? and is the display any better than the V10? specifically brightness?
I'm really starting to like your video style Juan. Makes for an enjoyable video watching. Also I have the v10 right now and consider this the only worthy replacement for a power user under the old "NOTE" ideals. Btw, great setup for the 'I'm recording this on a v20'. Nice!
Can you talk about the bootloop issue? I have seen absolutely no reviewer talk about it. It's been on LG's last 4 phones, and it totally bricks them! Why would reviewers not talk about something that can make your device obsolete?
Totally understand. But I think it'd be fair to at least bring it up on videos like this where you explicitly compare the phones. The only solution LG has offered is to just swap out, and those replacements also get back into the bootloop. Totally unacceptable for the price you pay.
Just because you don't have it doesn't mean it's non-existent. It's pretty well documented that it does happen on both models, and that the only "solution" is to replace the battery/phone.
Hello LG V20. can't wait for your review on this particular phone. this will surely replace my note 7 after I return it. I'm going to miss the AMOLED screen and s-pen. but surely I will enjoy the audio on the v20.
I am really thinking about the v20 but after the very sluggish s820 in the note 7 I am thinking about just sticking with my work phones being a IPhone 6s+ and waiting to see if snapdragon can become snappy in 2017..
Great comparison Juan. The V10 is my daily driver and it has served me very well without any regrets coming from a Note 5 and Galaxy S7 Edge. I am looking forward to upgrading since at the moment no other phone can seriously compare to the LG V20. Cheers mate!
I've really enjoyed my v10 and I'm sold on the v20. I'm just a little salty they didn't keep the Vol buttons on the back. been rocking that configuration since the G3
For myself, the LG G3 was one of the best phones at that period. It was one of the best on the market. I especially loved pictures of the picture and changing myself the battery.
Hey Juan, do you have the Nokia 808 Pureview? If yes, can you compare the quality of the mics with LG V20. I'm quite surprised with the mics of LG V20, now i'm curious how it stands against the HAAC mics of Nokia 808. Thanks.
Once I saw that you were using the mics of the V20 for the video, I instantly felt even better about my decision to order my V20. On top of that, I just got news it's coming tomorrow :-)
Great phone the LGV20. Does anyone know if in UK you can get this phone. None of the major(Vodafone, 3, O2, Virgin) carriers have it. I don't quite understand why LG are not marketing it in UK. After the frustration of the Note7, the LGV20 in my opinion is the only smartphone which kinda ticks all the boxes (excluding the SPen).
Excuse me, Juan, for my French, but you just blew my fucking mind with that audio surprise! It sounds like every other video you've ever recorded! That says a lot. Definitely considering this phone since my only wish for the v10 was for the wide angle lens to move to the back of the phone and they did that. They also didn't take anything away from the phone which I really, really appreciate! Man am I excited to see the full camera review on this one.
HA! Lg didn't mess around this year. Everything we like about the V10 (except the grippy back and steel rails) and some nice little performance improvements. Shame LG isn't advertising this phone more.
What kind of stylus is that you're using on this video? I'm going from the Note 7 to this phone and would love to purchase a good stylus like the one your using. Can you place a link or just tell me the name?
The durability and rugged feel has me keeping on to my v10. Not enough of an improvement to me to upgrade. Battery life hasn't been a problem because I've kept running processes to a minimum in background thanks to nova launcher gestures w/ greenify.
An awesome video as usual Juan, but you simply kill it when you showed us the voice over was done using only the phone!!! Man, that's impressive!! I was thinking on getting a V10, but I'll wait a bit and take a V20 instead
JuanBagnell Totally agreed! Was waiting for someone to do it as is one of the stars on the prom video hahaha but couldn't be other than you buddy! Really well done!
hey +JuanBagnell yesterday I was in university attending a course about "signal and audio" and I was the only one understanding it, thanks to your videos speaking about audio
I can tell just from the specs that I would want to upgrade from my V10, I just don't have the funds. Quad DACS? Yes. Better audio recording? Yes. Better camera? Yes. Only downside is the volume controls aren't on the back anymore. :(
The audio was recorded on the V20! I'm going to love this.
Heh-heh :-)
The mic audio on the V20 is crazy!
Yup!
i'm extremely impressed by the audio recording capabilities!
HOLLY SHIT MY MIND WAS BLOWN WHEN HE DID THE WHOLE VOICE RECORDING CLIP ON V20!!!!! SOUNDS SO GOOD!!!
Right! Damn I had fun with that...
Kronos Gaming HD ahahha same
good surprise I guess. freaking good quality. thou i like the v10 looks and design better.
yeah its so crystal clear and punchy. this is my next phone
yeah sounds good but that was inside a room with no background noise, i think you had some noise dampers or something like that
Woah!!! That microphone quality is SUPERB!!!
Not bad right :-)
no
The most underrated smartphone of 2k16 !! Damn that mic quality !! LG is the new NOKIA !!
This! This right here. I think this might be the true successor to the Lumia mics on phones like the 1520.
+JuanBagnell I agree.
Loving my V20, which I have just got. I have to say though, that my Stenheiser $80 in ear headphones kick the crap out of the Bang and Olufsun ones that came with the phone.
damn, dat mic quality
Yup!
What was the setting of the phone (gain, LCF, LMT) when you record this? Was it shown as per 4:07?
wow!!!
Hoey Siang Ong
Pretty close to this yeah. I might have set the gain a touch higher, but the LCF was off and the limiter was set as a safety net.
+JuanBagnell Thank you so much. Was very sceptical with the mic capability when it announce~
I'd love to get my hands on those 16 megapickles
Parveen Mahaputra I'll show you a mega pickle
kingster20 I'll take that back
kingster20 HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Lmaooooo!!!!! 😭😭😭😭😭😂😂😂😂😂😂😭😭😭😭😭
I laughed hard when i heard that😄😄
holy shit this mic is amazing
Yup. I was very impressed.

just getting this cause of the megapickel camera
Super tasty!
JuanBagnell so it has a IR blaster right?
thecityboy781 yes
dat boi yeah, but after returning a note 7 for a 2nd time I need something that won't blow up
megapixel*
The V20 microphone is awesome af
That was fun to reveal.
JuanBagnell was the software stable?
Danilo Correia
For the most part it's been great. Some funkiness since this is NOT a release phone though.
always making videos about questions that I have on my mind, well done!
:-D
Wow the v20 mics sound great! Blew my mind when he said SUPRISE! lol
Had a little fun with that...
Javier Prado Ikr it was amazing
That was genuinely amazing. I feel you almost underplayed it in the review. Don't think I've heard a phones mic quality be anywhere near that level.
BiscuitOath
I wanna see who's REALLY paying attention.
I nearly fell off my chair when you said the whole video voice over was done on the V20. DAMN!
Had fun with that. Helps us tell who REALLY watches our videos ;-)
Any idea of that audio quality will also help make phone calls (regular or via headphone mic) more clear?
The audio quality is amazing, it genuinely caught me off guard. Juan, you should really consider to record audio in the v20
Naw I'll stick with my studio recording equipment ;-)
Hey Juan, how do you say Google Pixel? Do you call it the Google Pickle?
I SHOULD!
lol
Now all we need is dBrand to release a pickle skin, and we be all set. Everything will be brine!
16 megapickle
Watched this video on my smooth V20.
:-D
americanswan Lucky guy
awesome
How, if its not out yet?
Papii Chuloo
It is out. It's been out since the 29th. Move to Korea.
HOOOLY SH*T, MY CHIN DROPPED WHEN HEARD IT WAS RECORDED FROM THE V20. Great work Juan!
Thought that would be a fun surprise :-D
JuanBagnell and the burp at the end
.. just made my day! haha
*****
Listen to that amazing fidelity from those high quality mics right ;-)
LG V20 so underrated. only problem is that 2nd screen. not that many people gonna use it.
Mr.Wilcher U.S even if they only use it for a notification ticker it's really a bonus but they can always turn it off.
no im talking about how its gonna hard to reach for some. its not that much you can do with it. I wish that add more features & apps.
It's gimmicky but I use mine a LOT. It's certainly a solution in search of a problem, but I miss it when I don't have it.
I would've love to see a V20 Stylo that comes with a pen like the Note. That would've made it the best replacement.
LG has a HUGE opportunity to step up their advertising. A higher end stylo next year could put more pressure on Samsung for sure.
The video I have been looking for... thanks.
You're welcome :-)
JuanBagnell
Any ideal if we can get the LGV20 in UK. If not, can you please influence LG to market it in UK. They want listen to me, but your popularity and extraordinary audience can move a mountain. LG could make millions.
thank you Juan! can't wait to see your V20 review!
I guess I'll pre-order this as my Note 7 replacement. 😔
Yeah. Such a bummer.

I ran a test run of the microphones on this bad boy, facing the front of the screen 12 inches away from me, hit record a vocal run, then played the recoding through my music studio play back system speakers. I restarted the video.. The moment you said.. The whole audio is through v20.. 😆😄
HA! I had fun with that :-)
From lgg3 i went to ip6plus coz the v10 is wasnt release or rather they release it after 8months(but i love the v10)..but this time i will get you v20 even your not available in EU.
Regional restrictions suck.
Wow that audio quality is freaking good
Better than some of my friends mics
So i can certainly hear differences between this and what I normally use, but this mixed in WAY better than I thought it would. Very impressed.
Yes me too. I think this would work for a starter setup for someone who doesn't need a top of the notch mic
I want the v20 in the v10 body
Ditto.
not me I don't like the polycarbonate on the V10
That Girl Who Likes Music just find a case with the same grip on the back. I found one on ebay
Why is this phone so underrated ??? O.o
Honestly, I think LG needs to step it up and advertise this more.
JuanBagnell Well, they seem to have caught a lucky break with the cancellation of the Note 7.

Sai krishna Katakam I think because is kinda ugly.
Because LG phone are know to take a shit on you. Research boot loop
this mic quality took me by surprise waiting for a comprehensive review of the overall features and how it stakes up.now that note 7 is out of the race can lg please step up advertising this phone .thanks juan.....gr8t review as always....
I mean seriously LG! Missing a HUGE opportunity here to make a little noise.
yup you said it right Juan.......this lg v20 underdog stuff is a sleeping giant wanting to be awoken early....
Hot damn that was a good twist showing yourself recording with the V20. The quality is indistinguishable from how you would normally record audio with your other videos.

THEY DON'T THO!!!
Just bought my V20 and I'm loving it, coming from S6edge+ so not a dramatic difference performance wise, but none the less, I am absolutely loving this device.
Are You Kiddin Me.. Mic quality was damn good!!
No joke.
JuanBagnell Way better than your studio mic.. Haha....
JuanBagnell Does the V20 support MHL technology?
I would imagine that it supports slimport, as that is the standard supported by earlier LG phones
Juan, here's a little interesting info.
The native resolution on the V20 is shot in a 4:3 aspect ratio because it uses an entirely different sensor. The G4, V10 and G5 used a Sony Exmor IMX234 (1/2.6" 16MP) while the V20 uses a Sony Exmor IMX298 (1/2.8", 16MP)

that's some ridiculous audio quality on those mics. excellent review as always!
Yeah, had a little fun with that :-)
Your enunciation, and diction flows remarkably effortless when your speaking during your reviews! Excellent!!
Been stealing tricks from legit voice actors for years now ;-)
IR blaster = win
Truth.
The mic comment completely blew me away! That's freaking amazing.
I had a little fun with that yeah :)
I'm thinking of buying this for my gf. Should I buy this or no? She's still rocking her Motorola X Crazer. (If no one know's what that is, its a cool ass flip phone)

thanks for doing... like everyone I'm blown away by the quality of the mic.
Alright the mics on the LG V20 are so good I wish I had that on my iPhone!
Yeah. Been disappointed that Apple hasn't improved there. Can't even record stereo audio in video. If any company could step that up it should be Apple.

JuanBagnell True the only way to fix that currently is with those external mics but I don't even know if they make lightening versions....
I use a Sennheiser clipmic on Lightning. It's really good, but it's pricey.

I'm surprised, didn't note a difference from the regular mic.
Right! Not bad at all for a phone.
LG needs to release the V20 in Europe
Truth.
Abdul G in brazil too
After experiencing the bootloop issue twice with the V10 (first with the original purchase, then with the replacement), I'm offically done with this phone. OMG, You gave me the chill when you revealed that you recorded the audio over the V20 Mics O.o

Well I haven't experienced it personally, but it was reported on.
I own the G4 and V10 and no bootlooop
Totally understand. But I think it'd be fair to at least bring it up on videos like this where you explicitly compare the phones. The only solution LG has offered is to just swap out, and those replacements also get back into the bootloop. Totally unacceptable for the price you pay.

Well, reviewers need to get paid. I guess that's why they don't usually reveal the real problem.
I would love to know why LG aren't doing the V20 in the UK, the same as the V10
4:10 firstly i didn't understand why were u holding V10 and V20 was in front of you, then you said it...i still can't believe how awesome that mic is
Had a little fun with that :-)
Hello LG V20. can't wait for your review on this particular phone. this will surely replace my note 7 after I return it.
I'm going to miss the AMOLED screen and s-pen. but surely I will enjoy the audio on the v20.
I have been searching for a phone with decent mic for videos. thanks for the demonstration!
Figured this would be a nice showcase. Also a good way to see who REALLY watches our vids ;-)
Does he say it's a megapickel sensor @ 2:41?
I am really thinking about the v20 but after the very sluggish s820 in the note 7 I am thinking about just sticking with my work phones being a IPhone 6s+ and waiting to see if snapdragon can become snappy in 2017..
totally compelling hardware, and yet another fantastic review Juan.
Glad you enjoyed it :-)
Definitely convinced me. I also love how LGs stay speedy even as time passes by, compared to all the Samsung phones Ive had in the past.
Great comparison Juan. The V10 is my daily driver and it has served me very well without any regrets coming from a Note 5 and Galaxy S7 Edge. I am looking forward to upgrading since at the moment no other phone can seriously compare to the LG V20. Cheers mate!
When it comes to audio and video there really is no better solution out of the box. It's a beast.
Anxious for a camera comparison between this, the Pixel, iPhone 7 + and a Lumia 950.
I've really enjoyed my v10 and I'm sold on the v20. I'm just a little salty they didn't keep the Vol buttons on the back. been rocking that configuration since the G3
How is the phone not released yet? Wasn't it supposed to be the first phone released with Nougat? The Pixel is out already, and it has Nougat.
Kind of a bummer the timing fell apart like this. Really hoping LG makes more noise about this phone.
I'd rather for them to hold it a little longer before release than have it rushed to meet a deadline and have battery problems *cough* note 7 *cough*
2:41 megapickle sensor?
v20 is my dream phone :) that audio though through the headphone jack
and btw!! that mic quality !!!!!!!!!! it was superb !!!!!!
LG didn't mess around with the audio this year.
Great short comparison 👍
The mic is awesome!
I was very impressed.
For myself, the LG G3 was one of the best phones at that period. It was one of the best on the market.
I especially loved pictures of the picture and changing myself the battery.
i still can't believe the quality of the mic, out of this world
Audio alone, to be paired with Audeze iSine 20, which one would you go for?
Will the battery in the v10 work in the v20? Are they the same size? Batteries for the v20 are hard to find!
I think the Clove.co.uk guys are going to carry it.
Wow I have to drop a comment and say what a wonderful comparison video. Great shots, great audio ( wow on being from that v20), and very professional.
Glad you enjoyed it :-)
What kind of stylus is that you're using on this video?
Had to show it off. Too many reviews just talk about this stuff. Why not use it right?
JuanBagnell Totally agreed! Was waiting for someone to do it as is one of the stars on the prom video hahaha but couldn't be other than you buddy! Really well done!
Great review as always. Thanks
Juan I hope you do a camera comparison between the V20 and the Pixel XL in auto mode with the maximum mega pickles on each device
Does the improved microphone seem to increase call quality?
How is the v20 backlight bleed on the second screen that hunted the v10?
The v20 mic sounds unbelievable!!!
Is that frame around the button, used to pop out the back cover, made of metal or plastic?
Please tell us how's the battery life comparing to my favorite Note 7?
Noticed some sort of stylus in the video. Does it allow you to write notes on the V10.If so could you send a link?
hey +JuanBagnell yesterday I was in university attending a course about "signal and audio" and I was the only one understanding it, thanks to your videos speaking about audio
RIGHT ON! Glad I could help.
Excellent REVIEW, It's SO badass i have to geT this monster!!!
I can tell just from the specs that I would want to upgrade from my V10, I just don't have the funds. Quad DACS? Yes. Better audio recording? Yes. Better camera? Yes.
Only downside is the volume controls aren't on the back anymore. :(
DAMN I miss that rear volume rocker.
