This is a great pedal, I use it all the time. It's seriously underrated - I think people expect it to be crappy because they've had bad experiences with the Metal Zone.
I bought Boss Metal Core when it first hit the market back in about 2009/2010 and have had it ever since. I loved the sound right off the bat. The thing that I like the most about this pedal is that is sounds good for WAY more than just metal. I use it for alot of hard rock and punk also. Versatile pedal.
I use it for leads as well. If you get an overdrive pedal or tube screamer and have the distortion on around a quarter or less dialed up, with some decent chorus and a little delay, it sounds bomb.
@@markandreotti7323 Of course.. That's how you improve your tone which is to use an Overdrive pedal. Like an Icing or Cherry on top. When playing Rock my OD is the one that i mainly use for the whole song, when soloing imma turn on the Distortion for that spice. When playing Metal my Dist is the one that i mainly use for the whole song, but when imma go crazy iim gonna turn my OD for that Chef Kiss. Do it and experiment with it man. But some people like it as is. Dist alone or Od Alone. They dont like stacking/boosting. But for me it works.

I got one today , and I freakin love it - the sound is exactly the distortion i was after --- have used a lot of pedals and Multi Effects , but wanted something that I can feel it vibrate through my body and this pedal delivers exactly that
I bought this pedal a few years back on a whim and it’s turned out to be one of my greatest assets in my rig. With enough fine tuning between the pedal and your amp you can dial in a pretty decent amount of tones. I love it.
Best settings on this pedal imho are: Level maxed Bass 9 o clock High 10 o clock Gain minimized. You get a slight mid boost this way (for a pedal that pretty scooped to begin with) Great pedal
This is the video that made me buy the metal core. Two years later and It's basically the only pedal I actually use. The rest (excluding tuner) have been demoted to being mostly ornamental and are in my pedal board mostly because I'm too lazy to get a new smaller pedalboard and redo all the wiring.
Forgot about noise gate, because it's always on. The integrated noise gate on the CHUG pedal has almost made me buy it. If only the CHUG pedal also had a tuner - then it would really have everything a groving (sideways) metalhead needs. Perhaps in version 2.0. Or am I allowed to dream about a Solar Amp with integrated tuner and noise gate.
I've been playing on the boss metal core for years. Gives me just what I need... I noticed your amp and speakers were different that what i play through... Which would require you to adjust the dials as you have... I play a Randall hd45rms head through a randall 4x12 1/2 stack. This set up has done me well for the direction i chose to travel.
So happy to see this vid. It was my main core sound before I got my Revv G120. Yeah, you kinda figured it out, it's drop both EQ knobs, turn the bass up until it chuggs how you like, then add treble just enough to fill it out. I kept the distortion at about 2/3's. Also, get it? Core sound? I'll see myself out....

I have the pedal, it is a better volume boost and EQ than distortion pedal. I have a Joyo metor it makes it go from like 70s and 60s rock to full on 80s Heavy metal/Thrash.
I can answer that for you... Definitely yes!!! I have one going into a Orange Crush 20RT and it makes a perfect prog metal/sludge tone that chugs for days!!!
That pedal thru the setup you have there is just straight up a kick ass sound....in my opinion that is the perfect sound....and in all honesty dude.....you had it chugging as soon as you turned on the pedal...literally 1 second was the official chug time.......Keep Chugging Ola....you rock dude
I have been trying to remember a pedal that a student of mine brought in for me to try years ago. I plugged it into a peavey bandit 112 and it blew my mind. I have never been a pedal user. I have owned some in the early days of when I was starting out, but rarely in my later years as i fell in love with the Soldano amp model in the Line 6 Flextone II and XL. I have 3 of those now and have been using them since 2000. But, that one distortion pedal I've been trying to remember may have been the metal core, but I think maybe it was a DOD pedal. Anyway, I'll never know unless I am able to get my hands on several different distortion pedals (all I remember is it was a black chassis) and able to plug into a peavey bandit 112 to know for sure. It will always be a mystery I guess!
Good tip !!! Put Metal Core ML2 into a transparent overdrive (like a clone Klon) with no gain (for the Klon). With low and high at 12 on the ML2. Massive sound. The Klon helps to cut the harshness from the ML2, especially the high frequencies
Don Urbano Binasbas III i would describe it as a heavy but creamy distortion. I used a metal zone in the past and would occasionally put an OD in front of it to wet the sound. Don’t know if i made sense at all :)
Just tested one yesterday with a TS-9 boosting it. With all the gain down and no boost, it can sound like a lot of vintage rock/metal distortions of the classic marshalls, with the boost you get a tight modern sound and can crank the gain up until 12 o'clock for some heavy crunch and chug. I'd recommend setting the treble dial fairly low, given the boost will add a lot of bite and the pedal still sounds kickass by itself
Finally some of my gear , thats the pedal I run through my BOSS Katana Mark ll 100 with my ESP LTD MH-1000MNT ... great pedal you can get a lot of great sounds out of it !!!
I almost bought a Metal Core pedal, but I talked myself out of it because I already had an MT-2 Metal Zone. If I knew how it sounded I would have gotten it!!

I have this pedal and it can do some really nice metal sounds. Even at its lowest setting you still have plenty of distortion! It kicks ass! Its even kicks butt with single coils on a strat.
@@tyrp7309 Short answer FX return if tube, if Transistor Clean channel front end Long answer: Not sure how you have been getting on with the Metal Muff, but I find its best into a really flat amp be it solid state or tube, you want to run it through an "open" amp or straight into fx return. When I say open I mean not adding too much character or colour. I think both this and the Metal Zone were designed for use with cheap solid state amps that could quite do the most extreme metal sounds that well. Most solid state amps at the time had a competent clean. I think these days solid state amps have far more tube style character, which colours the tone, so when you put a Metal Muff or Metal Zone into them it can be quite hard to get the right balance. You can still get killer tones into most amps if you are ok with dialling stuff carefully. But even a little amp gain can (not always) just ruin it. For instance I found it really had to get a good tone in my Jet city clean, its the only pedal it does not like, literally tried over 50 in it. The Jet is a Tube amp, it is amazing with every other drive I have tried, just not the Metal muff. Pre amp changes the tone too much to work But at home into my cheap flat as hell budget solid state clean channel, its fucking immense. Its not so much the quality of the amp as the type of amp. So what usually is a bad fit for guitar (i.e. flat response, uber clean hi fi style pre amp) I think is easy to use with Metal Muffs and Metal Zones, if you have Tube amp , go into fx return, unless its a HI Watt or something similar or a fender twin style amp
Good video, you got a good sound from the Metal Core for pedal distortion in the amp's clean channel. But DAMN, I was waiting for you to run the pedal on low gain to boost the amp's OD channel (THAT would have been a MONSTER of a tone, Metal Core boosting a Rectifier) ... and then compare it with the Recto's OD channel on its own, like you did in the video for the Boss DS-1.
My Marshall MG30CFX on max gain (with bass at about 1 o’clock, mid at 8 o’clock, and treble at about 2) and my boss ds-1 (being used as more of a boost) chugs incredibly. And when I plug in my digitech drop...it’s all over🤘

Ola! ... What effect are you using to turn the mono mic input into a stereo signal and what are its settings (screenshot)? Sounds really good without sounding chorus-y.
"Its actually not that noisy". Its well behaved on the hum and hiss department. Its a metal pedal you will get saturation even at the lowest gain. I crank it straight into the clean channel of an old Marshall valvestate. I use the amp mids to give it more cut. For solos i boost it with an od3 and it sustains forever.
I have a raft of well regarded OD pedals... 1st run Guv'nor, all sorts. Secretly, the ML-2 is the heart and centrepiece of my heavy af tone palette... GREAT lil' pedal.

It's just color correction. I noticed that the color changes in some areas, so maybe the camera is at fault.

I have this pedal since maybe 7 or 8 years ago and I can say that the harmonics sound really amazing and they come without any effort.

mojo mojo into metal muff into eq into old tube amps. this grandpa rocks! been shredding through a metal muff since it came out.
I couldn't get a good tone but then again, i was using a line 6
I swear by my metal muff. It'll turn any tube amp with a halfway decent clean tone into a death machine.

I own 2. Recorded an album with it. Run it through a 200 w. Solid state head and 1960 A. I get compliments every show I play on the tone. Love mine.
Good video, you got a good sound from the Metal Core for pedal distortion in the amp's clean channel. But DAMN, I was waiting for you to run the pedal on low gain to boost the amp's OD channel (THAT would have been a MONSTER of a tone, Metal Core boosting a Rectifier) ... and then compare it with the Recto's OD channel on its own, like you did in the video for the Boss DS-1.

My Marshall MG30CFX on max gain (with bass at about 1 o’clock, mid at 8 o’clock, and treble at about 2) and my boss ds-1 (being used as more of a boost) chugs incredibly. And when I plug in my digitech drop...it’s all over🤘
It sounds awesome with a Snarling Dog Mold Spore pedal in combo......try it !!!

Ola! ... What effect are you using to turn the mono mic input into a stereo signal and what are its settings (screenshot)? Sounds really good without sounding chorus-y.
"Its actually not that noisy". Its well behaved on the hum and hiss department. Its a metal pedal you will get saturation even at the lowest gain. I crank it straight into the clean channel of an old Marshall valvestate. I use the amp mids to give it more cut. For solos i boost it with an od3 and it sustains forever.
