The Zenith Passage has been my new addiction. Love their stuff, and Justin's the reason I'm saving up for a Kiesel K Series Headless now.
This was super cool. Especially to hear that they have two albums in the oven. Love these interviews, and the only thing I wish you had asked him more about is maybe the more technical side; The motifs he mentions, progressions, etc. I wonder how that plays in for him when he writes.
Trial and error, following the thread of ideas. Can hear melody/progression in my head, then see where the melody/progression takes me.
Is it mostly a melody that dictates chord progressions for you, or do you typically feel the progression first and then write a melody to suit?@@TheZenithPassage

Love it. Justin’s guitar playing abs his music are refreshingly unique. Him and Sanjay made me like a much dryer tone when I play. Can’t wait for more music but the 2 singles are fire!!! Thanks for the music and the podcast y’all!
On the question about a motorcycle engine being where Metal came from, while I know it was a joke, but yes. It actually is. The line “heavy metal thunder” in Born to be Wild (the most iconic “biker song” in history, and the song most often credited with coining the term “heavy metal”) refers to the sound of a Harley engine. Furthermore, the image of metal (you know, that whole Denim and Leather thing Saxon was on about and the whole “battle jacket” thing) comes from motorcycle culture, and many of the early foundational bands of metal were associated with motorcycle clubs in one way or another. If I recall correctly, a member of the Hells Angels even wrote some songs for Motörhead. One that comes to mind is Iron Horse/Born to Lose. Not to mention the sheer number of old school metal songs about riding motorcycles from bands like Saxon, Judas Priest, Samson, Manowar, even Wasp and Twisted Sister, and countless others, it’s pretty hard to deny the connection.

Saturnian is sick. I believe, if I remember correctly, they used to be called Traces and they were on Siege of Amida. Band was killer.
