My dad used to run a game room/vending machine business when I was a kid, and at one point we had this on a Neo-Geo 4-Slot cabinet. I remember being weirded out by this game when I was very young haha. Just the game enemies/imagery/music 😂. Fortunately, other slots included the first Samurai Showdown, Metal Slug, and Fatal Fury!
I can only assume that given they change direction every frame when this happens, the hitbox for the character is only active the frame after the direction is changed. So given the TAS is changing direction every frame, the hitbox never activates and the character can clip through walls and such. Edit: Me when I could have just read the Author's Notes on TASVideos:
He is levitating above the fire, where it can't damage him. Pressing Left or Right for 1 Frame every other Frame causes Elta to "levitate" to the left or right at his current momentum.
Normally by holding down the A button, 1 projectile will be fired per each 4 Frames, and the direction of fire can be changed without releasing the A button, creating a sort of "flamethrower" effect at a rate of .75 Hit Points of damage per Frame. By changing the direction being held every Frame, 1 projectile can be fired each Frame, thereby quadrupling normal damage output to 3 Hit Points of damage per Frame.

Soundtrack's pretty sweet.
The stylization of the tricks as magic spells in the explanation on the website makes this tas one of my favourites lol

It’s great, but also really hard, mainly for being an Alpha Denshi game and a launch era Neo Geo game

Is the player exploiting some bug to deal more damage, or are bosses supposed to die in one second?
I'm guessing since a TAS allows frame-perfect input for every frame, they are probably just doing an attack input on every single frame.
