It technically does display, the level up happened the moment he grabbed the soul, so there's was a bit of a corruption of graphics that didn't display the description properly (but the text box is there) due to the effects of the boss being defeated and the level up action.
the staying at 1 hp bit was due to not using any healing items or using save points, which is important for the lubicant soul, and the guard thing is due to the blocking mail, which has a 10% chance to prevent all damage

Never played this game, but aside from some soul RNG manipulation, I thought it was a pretty straightforward TAS run... and then @4:50, shit started getting crazy. xD
2:00 is when it starts getting crazy. He gains invulnerability due to the game thinking he is dead but it allows you to regain control of the player once he regains back health with an item that actually decrease the health (a pretty common glitch in some games) and then proceed to warp to an area that is like waaaaaay later than intended. In the map, the area that you see after is in the bottom of the castle, while entrance is located in the mid left side of the map.
I like how you used the fanart of Koumajou Densetsu version of Youmu Konpaku and Yuyuko Saigyouji in the beginning because the game is Touhou parody of Castlevania.
Does anybody actually know how he is able to get soul every time he needs to? During my run of Aria of Sorrow on Advance Collection, I was able to figure out that soul drops are affected by actions. For example, I wouldn't get soul from killing said enemy, but if I hit another enemy next to it before killing the enemy I wanted the soul from, the soul could now drop. I was abusing reload to try all kinds of stuff, sometimes with desired results and most often not.
Basically, the exact same thing you were doing, on a larger scale, and with the help of looking into the game's memory. Human runners for this category do smaller RNG manipulations with the help of save-quits. (It takes about an hour for a skilled human runner, IIRC.)
Remember kids is not soma extra mega speed who have defeated dracula , the real thing who have defeated dracula ,is the friends he have made it along the way.
I assume you are talking about the zips (bat zips, etc.) its basically like you are getting into the walls hitbox and because you are not meant to be there you get sent up out of the hitbox which can turn into massive skips. It is possible for humans to do this as this is a required glitch used in some areas to get a good time for any% speedruns. It is very hard to preform though. hope i could help :)
