Im SO HAPPY that I watched all of your 5 tutorial videos 🎉🎉🎉. You verbally explain everything in such a gentle and easy manner that it's easy to follow. Your daughters are amazing workers . Thank you for the EXCELLENT JOB 🎉🎉🎉🎉
No for lights. I took some 12 volt LED lights that you can get at Oreilly Auto. One I got come 2 to a pack and are made by "Truck Series" I put 6 in total (3 packs) in my 10x12 shed. I used a toggle switch above the door and also got lucky and got a 51 series AGM car battery off their RBT shelf for only 50 bucks. (nothing wrong with it. It sat on the shelf for over a year.) I keep it charged with a 4 watt solar panel I also got there. Ran the wires thru a small hole I dirlled and then filled with silicone. No leaks yet after 4 years. Havent had to change battery yet either. Can't run anyting off it but it provides a lot of light.
I just binged watch this little series, so glad it came across my feed. I think I might tackle helping my dad and brother build sheds at their houses. Thank you for breaking them down in such detail that I'm sure that we can all simply understand.
The way you did the video series was incredible. You took your time to explain every detail of what you were doing so that even if we do it ourselves we can go back and research what we learned so that we won't make mistakes. It's great to see the whole family getting involved which you don't see that much anymore. You're like me and my wife. We have a very large family and everyone helps. Thank you for this series because I'm involved in making a shed out of pallets. God bless you guys
GREAT video series! I'm building my own shed similar to this one. Sorry if somebody else made the following observation previously (I wish I could easily search through the comments and like what others said). The OSB sheets/sheathing need some spacing between them, just in case they get wet, they might expand, causing some problems. I used big thick nails as temporary spacers, and removed them once the but the sheathing was nailed in. The required spacing printed on each piece (mine is 1/8" inch).
I just wanted to say that you have the best shed videos i have seen on UA-cam anyone can understand what you are showing and explaining.THANK YOU VERY MUCH
This series is the holy grail of shed-building tutorials. Incredibly informative. One question: why no rafter joists? Did you feel the roof is strong enough to not include them?
Fantastic video series. Very informative. Thank you! Awesome to see you getting the whole family involved too. My dad did the same thing when I was growing up and it was invaluable experience in so many ways. I also wanted to note that your friend who helped shingle, around 17:58 when he's straddling the roof with nails in his mouth, looks a lot like Dr. Cox from Scrubs (played by John C McGinley).
I literally watched all of the videos on this build in one day it’s 1130 at night and I started this morning with my coffee! Of course I had to stop in the middle part of the day cause I had to do but regardless I watched all these videos in one day and I think I did over 300 screenshots with Notes because there was so much to learn. This was awesome. Thank you!
Just finished binge watching this build! You and your family make it look so easy, but it is clear you are very experienced. Ever considered a job in teaching?? Finally had someone explain maths to me in a way that it made sense! (the vid with the slope/pitch explanation)
Excellent set of videos. Many thanks to you and your fine family for showing the complete build from start to finish. I am originally from the UK and I must say the sheds in our country are completely different, yet look the same. Thanks again and best wishes.
Liked the series on the build. If I can offer a tip on security, replace at least 2 of the hinge screws with coach bolts, one through the frame and one through the door. Then touch up with paint to match the hinge, makes them less obvious.
I'm in Texas, I never seen a ridge vent before. Down here we use a cement type of board that has holes in it. It goes under the overlap of the roof and lets the attic breath. I wonder what the cons and benefits would be in Texas. Our temps go into the 100-110 F range outside and can reach over 120 F in the attics in the summer.
I have so appreciated the simple detailed Information. As a lifestyle change has surfaced, i am in need of a storage bldg. (Inherentance). But.. the pre built are way over priced!! So, watching this 4 yrs. After its made is still cutrent today 12-03-2023 THANK YOU SO MUCH.
This was a really good series. But is it over or are you going to show us how you'll add wood racks and other storage to the interior to make the most of it?
It was tongue and cheek meaning that product leaks in wind conditions and lets blowing snow in to then melt and do damage sence i do DryWall repair on the phone when they describe the problem my first question is do you have ridge vent every time they say the salesman told them its the new way to go they make a ton of money selling that crap and no i don't like products that hurt people i wish content providers dident promote products that dont work
Thanks for the reply. It is my first time ever using a ridge vent. But I will be mindful of it. I’d never heard of the leaky situation before. Now I’ll beware.
Irvin Wittmeier we have used ridge vent in thousands of roof replacements. The only leak we had was when the ridge vent was torn off by a critter. Owens Corning vent sure was the product I installed on James’ roof
Félicitation à toute l'équipe pour cette construction J'avais le vertige pour vous pendant la réalisation de la toiture. Congratulations to the whole team for this construction I was dizzy for you during the realization of the roof.
I enjoyed watching the project from start to finish . lots of thing that i had questions about been explained in these videos im saving all of theme for future reference . thank you
This is so fantastic. I'd like to build two sheds- one super insulated one to raise mealworms and another as a "she-shed" to continue making beekeeping supplies. For the former, do you have plans for how you could include a loft, so I could more tightly insulated the main level to keep the mealworms happy? Thank you- look forward to joining your FB group and getting these plans!
Your last step of adding the crosspiece at the bottom of the door -- IMO more important than keeping out what little bit of weather might get through, this piece also keeps out the stinkin' mice that might otherwise squeeze through the gap at the bottom of the door. I'm so tired of mice pee and poop all over my stuff when stored in a building like this. This build looks like it might easily be mouseproof. Spiders and bugs probably not, but they don't bother me even a fraction of the damage that gnawing, pooping and peeing mice can do. I'm looking forward to building a shed about this size soon.
New subscriber, thank you for the detailed videos. I just binge watched five of your videos on building the shed. I have rebuilt my house and we are taking about building temporary walls to hold up walls that had to be completed replaced. But I have never built something like this from scratch. I knew I could do it but the detailed work is something I knew I needed to learn about the build. I will buy your plans and do this when I’m done with my house. Really great stuff, you pointed out the small details that matter. Thanks.
Absolutely the best shed tutorial ever! The voice over with explanations are so informative. Along with safety tips and potential code issues. Every little thing is included. I can’t wait until next summer to build my own shed. I’ll be doing an 8x12 with only a 4/12 pitch. Seattle - only rain. Thanks for the inspiration!
man i wish u were my dad lollll love it brother happy to c the whole family working togather . and i m proud of the girls good job ladies ya were the star . thanks for all the info
I am new to the carpenter's field and am going to class in a week for layout and framing. Your videos were very helpful in understanding the concepts of this task.
Watched all 5... great series... very helpful. You included the details and I feel I could do this myself after watching. I really appreciate the time and effort you put into this.
I am building this exact shed with the exception of a wider door.. but what I just realized was if, on the front and back walls, that you could wait to cut the top strip of the walls and just use one piece of siding instead of using two "z" flashing. I wish I would have thought of this before hand 😅
I really enjoyed this series even though my sheds are already built. I learned valuable information that I might be able to use on a similar project in the future. Thanks for sharing your wealth of knowledge!
fantastic series, James. come spring time I will be revisiting these videos many times to come up with the plan for my backyard shed. I just wish I had the room to build one as big as this one!
Thanks James and family for the video and education. Just got my framing nailer last night. Porter Cable on sale at Homie-Depo! Reg $199 marked down $129.
So much better than many others TRYING to show how to build sheds. Really good on details. A couple of points you skipped though. You did not mention ( or I did not hear ) the type of nails for the roofing. Also, on mounting the hinges, good that you mentioned to pay attention to angle of the hinges, but you missed the more important, make sure they are in line with each other. And on the one showing how to lay out the rafters, not of great importance here, that by cutting 1 1/4 inch out for the birdsmouth, the peak will be that much lower, so 33 3/4. I did note that your blocks for the birdsmouth were close to that, so checking the measurement would have been pretty close. I am not knocking you. You covered most of it much much better than others.
Finally a shed video that explains all the little things that nobody else does. Thank you.

Your shed’ frame integrity is 1000x better than 95% of houses in California for sure. Such quality works you guys do!
Love shed
That was a pretty cool build. Thanks for all the detail.
And watching you allow your family be the apprentices I this,,,gave me stronger confidence
(I) I meant " In this build, forgive me.
Learned a lot through this series. Thank you
Thank you!!
Almost had a full pot of coffee while binging on your shed build. Thank you for sharing. I will be buying your plans.

This was a really good series. But is it over or are you going to show us how you'll add wood racks and other storage to the interior to make the most of it?
I love that ridge vent it keeps me busy fixing drywall in ceilings in every home i go to

Well done, King Family, you guys are great. Inspiring and good looking shed.

Even if you pay a roofer to finish the top, you'll save a ton of money over the sheds sold at the big box stores. Plus, have a better built shed.
That's true!
A nice group of videos on the shed construction.
