Goldenrod

One plant that gets a bad rap, and unfairly I should add, is the goldenrod. It's way to great of a plant not to take advantage of. Let go of your thoughts of allergies and hay fever and come in and see how this abundant plant can help improve your life.

Thank you. I have recently learned about goldenrod and all of its benefits. And make tea and salve with it. It definitely does all and more of what you talked about. Here in southern Ohio it is still abundant but has gone to the fluffy stage and I am finding tiny red bugs even after rinsing it off, before drying it in my vehicle on the dash. Can you tell me what those bugs are and if I miss getting them all off and consume some will it hurt me?

I think that would be goldenrod aphids. Their bright red colour indicates that they probably are poisonous, but I don’t know if they’re considered to be harmful to humans. If anything, they would probably give your goldenrod tea a very nasty unpleasant taste. Try washing your goldenrod in a salt water solution, and then rinsing it with a freshwater solution before drying.
