RIP Allen Collins. He never makes the "top 100" guitarists of all time list but boy he sure was! I often wonder how many great songs and guitar riffs were inside of Steve Gains as well as he was a top flight musician as well. What a band!
On point ☝️ and it's so good to know these iconic & deserving ones are viewed as I am in heart forever in loss of the and the future they and is all were robbed of ...I'd love to throw some overated under achievers under the tour bus but that's my pain and misguided anger loosing our boys.. my pretend big brothers who taught me life and it's precautions of drugs & drinking..didn't follow it to the rule but heard their please saving a multitude of generations .. my bros my family and I'll fly a flag in their honor and if fools mistake my use they can get in line as I would bleed for it or make bleed however it may go ....love ya all...100 Plus.....
Steve brought new life to the band. I wonder too. Such a surreal tragedy to have had a dream come true - on a suggestion to use him by his back up singer sister, only to be snuffed out after one album. Then to have Ronnie give him the spotlight of lead vocals on some songs. That probably did as much as anything to prove his talent was real.
Allen Collins' solo on The Needle and the Spoon always reminded me of Eric Clapton's solo on Badge. He didn't just pick, he ripped and nailed all the little details. I hope he and his loved ones are flying free in the eternal rhelm.
Right on bro I was supposed to graduate in 76 but I quit school and went to work either way we had primo music I remember when second helping came out they were playing Sweet home Alabama on 96.1 here in Tucson Arizona all the time that was one hell of a song and still is, Alan King he's got a jammed it not in this video he'd already quit 75 I think that was Steve gaines in there this is an older video like 76.???

I was a fan in the seventies of the original band. I was fortunate enough to see them three times in Columbia South Carolina. I cannot even explain the grief that came with the losses of the plane crash in 77. However, I am grateful for the music that I can still enjoy today. May all four of those lost in the crash, rest in peace today and forever.
Absolutely, God bless them all! I was born in 75 but I grew up listening to this kind of stuff. The music is so amazing! So, many bands had such AMAZING musicians! Nowadays, not even close to back in that era!
In my 60s now, one of my favorite bands . Unfortunately I never saw them live. I had floor tickets for the show in New Haven, Ct. when the accident happened. Sad to saw the concert never did. The song Brickyard Road by Johnny VanZant is a beautiful, heartfelt tribute to his big brother Ronnie. Very touching.
i to saw the original lynyrd skynyrd here in buffalo ny 3 times in the '70's and i had only been to 1 other concert when i was young and it was elton john here at rich stadium where the buffalo bills play, i am going to so many of the groups i missed out on back then and its great, there truly was none like skynyrd
They broke the mold when this band came out, however there was a few that were close.. allmen brothers, Blackfoot just to name a few.. but allmen brothers lost 2 of their key players Duane allmen and berry Oakley.. to that big rock band in the sky. I hope they're playing when I enter the pearley gates!! and play it loud!! Amen.
I'm sorry but the GOAT is the Allman Brothers. Skynyrd just wrote songs more appealing to the general public instead of being a "Southern Jam Band". Not everybody can handle several songs in a set just wandering off into long jams that are different from the record, that's why Skynyrd is more POPULAR. However the Allman Brothers set the table and the plates as well as cooked a fair bit of the "food" that Skynyrd built off of.
I don't know Give Allmans bros a listen before Duane died.Nobody could sing like Gregg Live at Filmore nis best live album ever and those guys were 20-22 years old and could sound like that

A friend and I had taken a bus from Toronto. We had never heard of them and had no idea what to expect. Needless to say, they were amazing. My continual respects to the Greatest Southern Rock Band ever and I’m glad I breathed air at the time when the original/Ronnie Lynyrd Skynyrd roamed this earth.
The best Southern Rock Band of all time, & one of the Best Bands of all time period!! They never got the full credit they deserved… Not One Of Them!!! I listen to this band every day without fail. Usually deep cuts. Concerning Freebird, Allen must had cables for tendons. The Freebird solo is a monster solo and murder on the hands and wrists. But Allen always played it perfectly. And Gary's slide tone is unreal. The greatest band ever.
Best band ever . Saw them many many times over the years. Sad that all the originals are gone now. I remember when JVZ had his own band, they opened for the Outlaws, with Molly Hatchet and a local band from Greenville /Spartanburg area at the Carowinds amusement park in the early 80’s There were members from Outlaws and Hells Angels .Everybody was toking and passing in every line on all the rides. It was a hell of a show!
Best southern rock band of all times, this bands got the stuff nobody's come close to life's songs than Ronnie and the guitars are unmatched by any band
God them such talent Ronnie was a musical genius had such a great ear for what he wanted a song to sound like. My opinion never recorded a bad song and when they recorded it it was theirs wether they wrote it or not. My heart was broken that I never got to see the original line up. May they rest in peace . their music will live forever and birds will always be FREE!!! God bless them all.
I never know this band, as an islander, until I noticed their music lyrics is fitted reminders in our time, and all of us must be agreed to that?Prophetic 50 yrs. ago🤙
I've been listening to their great music since back in high sch way back in the late 70's, such an amazing band. Their music helped me thru so much in my life. God bless the world's rock n all musicians*
I most definitely agree on the only Lynyrd Skynyrd band, I seen them when they came back on tour after the crash and they put Ronnie's hat on the microphone and Play Freebird oh, just the music, damn tears hit my eyes. LOL you are missed!!!!!!

How about the song Mississippi kids thats what he called himself. When asked why he said.i don't know just have always felt a connection with Mississippi. Well you know where the plane went down.
TimHart..I had never made the connection with Mississippi Kids and what Ronnie said about his connection to Mississippi and where that plane went down in Mississippi. Oh that is just unbelievable 😢
Saw them in Greenville on the last concert. So glad their music lives on. My grandson is a big fan now. He’s older than I was when I saw them in 77. Wow time flies.
These are the only guys on the planet whose playing styles and aggressive pick attack could ever make a peavey amp sound comparible to a mighty marshal. (Back in that day)
This song hit me as prophetic the day I heard of the crash cause I was a Rock drumming teen at the time and played Skynyrds music which I did & do love. RIP Guys🎹🎵🎸🎶🥁😇🙏
I want to say this is from the Asbury Park, NJ Convention Center show from July 13, 1977. I've seen it on You Tube before, and I want to say the whole concert is available to watch.
I've watched the complete concert a few times, absolutely amazing to see them in full flow with Steve Gaines. Just be thankful that we still have footage like this to watch anytime we want. 🏴🇺🇲
Yes,the best band ever! Best there ever was...best front man, best guitarist's,best everything....it all came together w these guys....I'm still saddened by it all..... incredible....
Man their 3 guitar attack really set the standard for all Southern Rock bands! Still proud of our hometown folks! Can’t help but to think about them when I drive past “The Jug” on Lenox Ave.✌🏻🎸🎶
As I listen, I think about when I was younger and hearing some of the best music ever to come to life and feel that while ya we all get older, but we don't have to grow up. Rock till you drop
I guess I was very fortunate!!!! We drove down to St Louis in 1973 to see the Who during the Quadrophenia tour, and there was this Southern rock warmup band we hadn't heard of--- They were Great!!!!! It was Lynyrd Skynyrd!!!! Saw the original band again at Hawthorne race track in Chicago in 1976, and again in Madison, Wis in July of 1977!!!!!! 3 more times after that mostly in Milwaukee------
I seen these guys in St. Louis Missouri , on their last tour right before the crash . What a loss of good , fun loving great bunch of people ! You not only can tell it by the music they play , but you can see it as it naturally comes from within right before your eyes , The just don't make'm like that anymore .
Thanks for sharing this video! This takes me back in time. To this day I remember where I was driving to when I heard the news their plane had gone down. We lost a huge up & coming band.😞
Steve Gaines and Allen Collins pouring on the lead on Free Bird. I saw them in Oakland New Years Eve '76/'77. No doubt, Skynyrd was the genuine article, one of kind.
If anyone wants to experience this classic rock music live should go see The Artimus Pyle Band. Definitely the real deal as far as modern day rock n roll. I've seen APB many times and I also saw the Lynyrd Skynyrd band that tours currently. APB is way better then today's Skynyrd. Does anyone else have an opinion on the two compared to one another?? I'd love to hear from true fans who saw both. Anyone out there ?????
What freedom have you lost? Please, make a list and, include the date for each one you claim you “lost”. I haven’t lost any of mine so, I’m really curious as to how many you allegedly lost.
@@Pamela-bf2iq .Educated was the problem. Brainwashed.. I never ever said a thing about being Uneducated... see, reread.. it pays to pay attention.. Something educated folks don't have an ability to do
@@juniorduty9279 Oakland is great too, but that really bad edit at the end always blows it for me. We all know how the song ends, and it ain’t like that!!!
i got to see lynyrd skyyrd live twice in the 70's , first time was opening for the who on the quadraphenia tour , then a year or so later they were playing as one of three bands at the spectrum in philly. hearing free bird before it was a smash was mind blowing and you can imagine how crazy the crowd went!. one of my favorite bands of them all.
Ronnie, YOU ARE THEEEE GREATEST (Mistro) of all time. All eyes of his court, stare and wait for his command, wow it's AWESOME to watch everytime, they perform this song.
Dead on in alan collians top 100 easy critics are paid to be stupid . all 4 of of the guitar men top 100 ever lived easy. Roniie is best lead man ever. Powell best ever on piano in a rock band.
They went way too soon the greatest Southern band ever, and it's very eerie how this concert and this song in particular almost as if they had a premonition...
I understand the way this group having a grudge each other since for them is like one hit wonder, which the closeness is inseparable to run that show until that day: part of this song, that he predicted his own death, not even by suicides, or drugs, but fate-meaning, he’s ready for it.RIP⚜️
So good, hard to believe gone for 46 years for three members, many decades for more, classic Southern Rock. They all seem so in tune with each other, all those many hot days and nights practicing at the Hell House. Did Steve ever get to see the “House”? Pardon the observation, since they’re all in heaven (Artimus exception) but the graininess of this footage makes it seem like they’re jamming from Heaven. Love them all.

I've watched the complete concert a few times, absolutely amazing to see them in full flow with Steve Gaines. Just be thankful that we still have footage like this to watch anytime we want. 🏴🇺🇲
@@garypeacock5919 You're right. We can relive 1977 through You Tube if we'd like to do so at any time.
I love you Billy Powell.
Still i hold them all in my heart of the best of the best
Yes,the best band ever! Best there ever was...best front man, best guitarist's,best everything....it all came together w these guys....I'm still saddened by it all..... incredible....
Southern Rock at its finest !🤘
Man their 3 guitar attack really set the standard for all Southern Rock bands! Still proud of our hometown folks! Can’t help but to think about them when I drive past “The Jug” on Lenox Ave.✌🏻🎸🎶
R.I.P. Gary
Alabama loves Skynyrd,..
One of the two best songs to come out of the South, this one and Simple Man. RIP Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Tuesday's Gone.
As I listen, I think about when I was younger and hearing some of the best music ever to come to life and feel that while ya we all get older, but we don't have to grow up. Rock till you drop
I was a huge fan, still am. I cry, they shouldn't have died. ✈️🎩
3 more times after that mostly in Milwaukee------
LUCKY YOU
And that is how it is done.
Yup
MAY THEY GIVE THIER MUSIC OFTEN IN HEAVEN.
THE MOST AWESOME AMERICAN BAND 👏🇺🇸🙏👀😎
My first rock concert just after my 17th birthday in April of 1977. At UD arena in Dayton Ohio. Nazareth opened the show.
That must have been a good concert man.
@@davidroberson8030 It was great.
🎼BRING ALL MY MULES OUT HERE ..! 🎸🎸🎸
It reminds me of the freedom we've lost
take it back or the kids will be asking down the road why we didn;'t?
What freedom have you lost? Please, make a list and, include the date for each one you claim you “lost”. I haven’t lost any of mine so, I’m really curious as to how many you allegedly lost.
@@Pamela-bf2iq .Your just simply too Young and Simple (Educated) to Understand. it's ok. It's not your fault
@@acgillespie It’s you’re, not your. Too young and uneducated? I’m a college educated grandmother so, cut the condescending bullshit.
@@Pamela-bf2iq .Educated was the problem. Brainwashed.. I never ever said a thing about being Uneducated... see, reread.. it pays to pay attention.. Something educated folks don't have an ability to do
All these comments and nobody gonna mention my ole buddy Leon...
Blessed to know Art and got to meet Bob Burns thru him...Loved their close fridndship...
Allen Collins guitar was "firebird" and he will get the credit he deserves for that great anthem eventually I believe
Always and forever my favorite band.
The greatest band of all time folks rvz
No Showboating ! The Greatest of all time True Entertaining their fans with good time ! storied ! Southern way of life heart loving Music
Born in 65 in Michigan this is my favorite band
Them boys could move mountains..
Mountain didn't move for them in the end.
Best ever version by a mile
Oahland California 1977
Knebworth is the best, Oakland ok but majority is of the young screaming girls so you don't get to see actual bqnd for a big part of it.
@@juniorduty9279 Oakland is great too, but that really bad edit at the end always blows it for me. We all know how the song ends, and it ain’t like that!!!
KNEBWORTH
i got to see lynyrd skyyrd live twice in the 70's , first time was opening for the who on the quadraphenia tour , then a year or so later they were playing as one of three bands at the spectrum in philly. hearing free bird before it was a smash was mind blowing and you can imagine how crazy the crowd went!. one of my favorite bands of them all.
Awesome!! The Band
No other rock song can touch it.
or ever will
I saw Billy Powell with Eddie Money at the Emeral Queen casino, I had no Idea until Eddie introduced the band.
The anthem of my youth....Oh but what would have become of the band if not for the McComb incedent. Fly high
One word#FreeBird🤙
Ronnie, YOU ARE THEEEE GREATEST (Mistro) of all time. All eyes of his court, stare and wait for his command, wow it's AWESOME to watch everytime, they perform this song.
I sure wish I was there
If so you'd be pretty old. I was only 14 in 1977.
Well, you've got the correct last name to be there, that's for sure....
Me too especially that time being young again and feeling great and everything working properly hair bones joints ears eyesight right on.
Allen Collins and Steve Gaines and Gary Rossington top Guitar 🎸 🎸
The Best Ever!! Had everything & had it in droves!
Seen Skynyrd in july of1977 Soldier Field Super Bowl of Rock.
There's that ubiquitous Budweiser beer can atop Billy's piano!...always there!
I was fortunate enough to see Skynard live twice & later partied w/ the Rossington Collins band & got all their autographs,, Rest in Peace my brothers
Dead on in alan collians top 100 easy critics are paid to be stupid . all 4 of of the guitar men top 100 ever lived easy. Roniie is best lead man ever. Powell best ever on piano in a rock band.
Great video of this timeless rock masterpiece.
Classic what a great band
Undoubtedly the best rock Era in history 70s &80s
They went way too soon the greatest Southern band ever, and it's very eerie how this concert and this song in particular almost as if they had a premonition...
Allen G WROTE THAT SH!t
all the guitar parts, Garry did cool shit too, Ed’s part great too Steve too
Historical clip! Wow!
I understand the way this group having a grudge each other since for them is like one hit wonder, which the closeness is inseparable to run that show until that day: part of this song, that he predicted his own death, not even by suicides, or drugs, but fate-meaning, he’s ready for it.RIP⚜️
Huh?
Classic..
Allen Collins is wearing a on the green Tshirt..they had did that show a week before this performance.it is also on UA-cam..
Got to see them in Madison Wisconsin July 7 1977
June 11 1977 for me. JFK Stadium Philadelphia. Absolutely incredible!
Wish all those sevens were lucky!
Not the young Skynyrd,.
The real,,
TIGHT SKYNYRD !!!
Class of 1975 😍🗽🗽🎶
