💯 Agreed! Ronnie Van Zant was a musical genius. It's absolutely mind blowing to think about what he would have done had it not been for the horrible accident. 😭 Best damn southern rock and roll band ever. RIP LS.💙
@@bolivingston1400 I probably heard him say it in the rockumentary. Credit belongs to Ed. The real tragedy of Ronnie's death is the future loss of great music and lyrics that the band was about to produce. I'm 64 still smoking weed drinking Budweiser and listening to Skynyrd and remembering the concerts of the early seventies I got to see Skynyrd, Foghat ,The Allman Brothers, ZZ Top, The Rolling Stones, Johnny and Edgar Winter, Ted Nugent, Eric Clapton, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Yes, Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Marshall Tucker, Charlie Daniels, Black Oak Arkansas, Supertramp, Wishbone Ash, Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush, AC / DC, Michael Murphy, The Hombres, they had one hit Let it all hang out . A girl I knew from my neighborhood gave me and a friend of mine backstage passes to Earth Wind & Fire I saw them all live for less than $20 Good Times.
if you dont get emotional listening to this then your dead on the inside, this band would have ruled the world if that terrible crash hadn't happened, skynyrd were peerless in my eyes, head and shoulders above other American bands, only the Allman brothers come close.
I am currently 17 years old and this is the greatest music I will ever listen to in my life. My parents taught me the lyrics to "All I can do is write about it" and "the ballad of Curtis Loew" as soon as I could speak. Im glad I was raised in a classic rock house because I do not go a day without throwing on a Skynyrd record! We shouldn't generalize my generation just because our computer generated garbage music is popular, because I know a few people like myself who still appreciate this art.
+sam dorfman I'm soon to be 21 and I'm right there with you pal. Classic Rock is what I jam to. None of my music library consists of the pop crap that so many from our generation are in to...

A day on the Green In Oakland I saw them and tickets were $5.00. There were 4 or 5 bands and that lasted all day into the night.

The greatest southern band of all time in my opinion. They were incredible and a group of of special people who made magic when they were together. They made my soul sing with the songs they wrote and performed. I will always love them and God may rest their souls. Amen ❤😢
Second in my book. I would give the nod to the Allman Brothers when Duane was still alive. The Mountain Jam from Eat a Peach is epic, as is Elizabeth Reed.
Allman brothers were awesome!!!…but there song book pales in comparison to what skynyrd put out in 4 years. Just sayin! Plus add the test of time…skynyrd gets ten times the airplay today over the Allman bothers. And to add some more fuel, I think the greatest southern rock “song” of all time is can’t you see by MTB!!
@@Jjackattack I agree with you, in everything. I would add that making the comparison between Allmann BB and Lynyrd remains very difficult.. Almann BB were closer to jazz (original lineup) and Lynyrd to rock and country.. while retaining a southern approach.. both. They wrote and played the memorable pieces in a virtuoso and heartfelt manner... I've been listening to them since 1980... both, but in some ways I have to admit that Lynyrd ultimately remained fresher and more time-tested.
@@niftylights3The Allman Brothers were Blues with Southern Rock. Duane Allman was stated, by Eric Clapton, as the Best Guitarist. Dickie Betts replaced Duane & one of the best Guitarist, & research the UA-cam Song “Mellisa” Acoustic with Gregg Allman & Dickie Betts. Lynyrd Skynyrd was Southern Rock & Roll & with the best back up singers of all times, with little recognition. I grew up with both bands in the 70’s & the best Music ever! Difficult to rate who is the Best, because they both were & are the best, in my opinion.
According to the thumbnail, this was taped on Sunday, March 7th, 1976. That was 3 days after I was born. I was born on Thursday, March 4th, 1976. My aunts and uncles loved this band, may God rest all of their souls( the band members gone too soon as well as my aunts and uncles gone too soon)❤😢❤
My name is Tuesday. My father would play this all the time on our old property, it always made me somewhat emotional that someone made this. This’ll always have a big nostalgic toll on me, I’m grateful for this song man.
Born in 1988 Florida, no surprise I grew up listening to these guys and remember my dad taking about their legacy ten years after the accident. My dad was an aircraft mechanic coincidentally and would always be happy to share the fuel mistakes made that “took one of the greatest bands ever”.
Jennifer I'm turning 40 and this I was introduced to this band songs at age 15 and still loved there music 🎵🎶 they sound like a band now that's how good they sing and better than the new bands that are coming out
Songs like this dont even exist anymore, thank God for all the amzing concert footage we will always be able to experience what life is really all about. This song in particular, and many others actually brings me to a certain kind of religious experience when I close my eyes and let the words and melody was over me. In my mind's eye I am remembering all my loved ones who have passed on. Lynyrd has that kind of power, witness! Simple Man takes me there as well.
I was one to be counted among the lucky to have seen Lynyrd Skynyrd live in their heyday. They knew how to rock it, great lyrics, great music. They didn't need to put on costumes, make-up, and dance around the stage. They entertained their audience simply by playing the best music this country had to offer at that time. The Allman Brothers were my first musical love and remain my favorite group, but Skynyrd played 2nd fiddle to no-one. They were the real deal. Although Ronnie didn't play an instrument, his loss was a devastating one, as he was an excellent song writer, composer, singer, and the defacto leader of LS. His loss was comparable to the loss of Duane for the Allman Brothers, and to the music world in general. Certain people simply can not be replaced. LS was as was many great bands were, the collective being so much greater than the individual pieces added separately. All we can do is enjoy the music they created, and be eternally grateful for it. I challenge any male to listen to Free Bird and Sweet Home Alabama and not feel a rush of adrenaline come over them, to drive and not feel the urge to depress your foot on the accelerator pedal, or to want to kick ass.
Man, they sure had the whole package. Nobody drug their feet in this band. Ronnie saw to that. I've never heard a ho-hum song come out of Skynryd. The chemistry & charisma they had in southern rock can't be duplicated.
Nothing short of hard assed working young men, caught up with one of the most musical souls (Ronnie Van Sant) this world has ever known, or likely ever will. They say, Ronnie never wrote down the words to his songs he wrote and sang with this amazing group, which just boggles the mind.......What a blessing Skynyrd is to the World. GodSpeed y'all...RIP Freebird...
Lynrd skynrd has always touched my life, I was born in 71 and I grew up listening to the greatest era of music, my parents use to blast lynrd skynrd in our house and mom and dad would dance, their music is so unique and has so much weight and depth in the lyrics, the superb musicianship. No one can even begin to imagine the collective shock and heartbreak felt in Jacksonville Fl, home of Lynyrd Skynyrd, on Oct 20th 1977 It was as if time stood still and all other news of the day quickly became insignificant. We felt that they belonged to us, although they belonged to the world and music lovers everywhere. In some ways, it's still 1977 around here and we have kept their memory alive and always will as long as there is LS music to be loved, revered and enjoyed.

There charted 5 or 6 times. But unlike many bands where the hit is the best song on the album all the songs on a Skynyrd album were great. All the albums of the original line up were fantastic..no filler
here in oz, the only Lynyrd Skynyrd song played on radio is sweet home Alabama, thus most think they were a one hit wonder. free bird, simple man, etc, rarely get airplay.I have every Skynyrd album released and love em all, all 38 special and Johnny Van Zant albums, Rossington Collins band albums, Artimus Pyle Band albums. on vinyl and cd. (prefer vinyl, sounds smoother)

Although Johnny eventually carried the music on and did an admirable job, it wasn’t the same.

The Street Survivors lp is their best work and Ronnie and Gaines were going to be a great team of songwriters. They only scratched the surface.
Rockumentary? Is that a UA-cam channel, or what? TIA
I wish they would look down and see me giving them a standing ovation after that performance...

Lets not forget the Allman Brothers neither.

Yeah, this and Simple Man are just brilliant, two of their best.
I challenge any male to listen to Free Bird and Sweet Home Alabama and not feel a rush of adrenaline come over them, to drive and not feel the urge to depress your foot on the accelerator pedal, or to want to kick ass.
nope, Rock and Roll is dead at the moment. i hope it is revived soon.
Me too seen the ALLMAN bROTHERS a couple of times live but never had the chance to see Skynyrd, miss Dicky.
Neil Young said it best,"Hey.Hey,My,My,Rock'n'Roll will never die.
