typical breakfast of filipino is pandesal and butter or fried egg pandesal is a famous morning bread in the philippines and of course with coffee and creamer
TAP SI LOG = TAPA (beef or pork) + SINANGAG (fried rice) + ITLOG (fried egg). TOCILOG = instead of TAPA, it is TOCINO (marinated meat) plus fried rice and egg. In the wet market, there is coffee. Nescafe coffee has been in the Phils since the 60's. 6 decades +
The "silogs" define the quintessential Filipino breakfast. "Silogs", a portmanteau of two words 1. My only concern is more and more restaurants are offering SILOGs with plain steamed rice when it should be fried garlic rice like that restaurant that served your Bangsi log which served you plain steamed rice. I'm very particular with my breakfast and would always insist asking first if their slog zones with fried rice or no because if it's just plain rice with garlic on top and not fried rice I will look another breakfast place. Plain steamed rice is a breakfast deal breaker for me. A other good Filipino breakfast is PARES pronounced Pa Res you should try looking if they have that in Davao
Ken, coffee shops are usually located near city center area or malls. Typical Filipino breakfast consists of fried rice, meat, beef, or fish with some vegetable. The drinks for breakfast usually water or juice but not coffee. Coffee usually paired with bread or biscuit.
Hi Ken, Our Vice-President is half German, her mom is German. And his younger brother is currently the Mayor of Davao City. You can also try eating at Dencia's Restaurant near JS Gaisano along Ilustre St., their lugaw (rice porridge) is delicious with tikwa't baboy. It's also good for breakfast. Enjoy Davao City, Ken.
For Filipino breakfast , Majority have : a) PAN DE SAL ( from spanish word pan = bread & sal = sun combined with 1) SALABAT ( ginger juice boiled , for elder ones ) 2) coffee , different types x ) roasted rice , grounded & boiled. xx) barako , strong coffee beans xxx ) commercial ready mix coffee Typically pan de sal is eaten w/o cheese or any fillings as long as it is hot , or it is dip on your hot coffee. b) those different " SILOG " types originated from lfamily home dinner left over , which is recook on breakfast , wise budget , nothing is thrown . left over rice is fried , typically just add salt , but now differrnt version comes , you may add beside salt , toasted garlic & grounded , or egg , or potato . left over fish , is fried on breakfast etc etc , any left over is recook on other version .
Love your videos, keep em coming.. Pro tip: whenever you see soy sauce, kalamansi, and red chili.. your supposed to mix them all together. Taho - tofu, typical Filipino breakfast. The biggest pineapple plantation is located north of Davao, so yeah.
Ken my friend, you ate one of the most traditional filipino breakfast. BangSiLog is abbrev. of the words Bangus(milkfish) + Sinangag(garlic rice) + Itlog(egg). Bangus is milkfish, the "national fish" of the philippines. Great review! cool!😎👍🇵🇭🇩🇪
Wow happy to know your here in Davao City . Thank you for visiting our city. I lived in Davao City so I am glad your giving feedback on what's really happening
Hi Ken, Yes, Filipinos drink coffee too especially in the mornings in the comfort of one’s house. Fancy coffee shops are available in the city centres and malls. We love pandesal for breakfasf, bulad or dried fish and the silogs too. We eat congee’s or chocolate rice pudding we call it champorado. We eat whatever we fancy actually 😊. Davao is a very lovely city. We enjoyed our stay there and would like to come back the next time we come home. Hope you enjoy your Davao tour too and keep safe
Delicious😀 It’s wonderful that locals can talk to you in English. I once got lost in Munich rural area and I had a hard time finding someone who understood English to help me. 😅
What a nice breakfast! The fish looks so delicious 😍 Earthquake is really scary. Here in Japan we're used to it, but whenever it happens I'm surprised and look around 😅 Take care Ken!
Taho is like silken tofu (made from soybeans) . Traditionally tapioca pearls (sago) and sugar/caramel syrup are added …but nowadays there different ingredients added to the taho . There’s ube, strawberry, red beans , etc. Taho is usually a snack or a kind of dessert after a hearty breakfast meal.
Hi! Ken. It’s so nice to watch you in the Philippines. I’m following you because you are very insteresting to watch. It same you enjoying yourself in the Philippines. What do you think about the Philippines? One thing about you is you are not afraid to try different things. Tacloban Leyte is my home town.
What a "lami" Filipino breakfast/Bangsilog you have there, Ken. Oh wow, that fish is quite a big one and great that your tolerance towards fish is already up to a higher level. Well done, my dear young man. Yeah, those green yellowish fruits are pomeloes. You have tried them when you travelled to Ipoh. Oh gosh, what a scary earthquake you have experienced. Luckily, it was not a major one. Another awesome video, enjoyed watching. Thanks for posting, Ken. Stay safe and take care.
Yes you can try the TAHO (fresh sweetened-tofu) and it is good to your health because it is made of Soya and the most number of imported fruits in Manila coming from Davao is SUHA (pomelo/sourgrape) - DURIAN (queen of all fruit) and the PINYA (pineapple)
6:37, bangsilog means bang = Bangus(MilkFish) si = sinangag(friedrice) log = itlog(egg) you got served with plain rice, even jollibee got pretty decent breakfast food. Good day Mr.Ken, nice video, keep exploring
Good day Ken! So you are having Bangsilog for breakfast. Bang short for bangus (milkfish, national fish of the Philippines ), si short for sinangag (fried rice ) log short for itlog (egg ). Enjoy your breakfast.
Hi Ken ,My bf’s favorite breakfast is tosilog Combination with tocino ,sinangag (fried rice) and itlog(fried egg) Glad you tried bangsilog. Rice must be fried rice in typical Filipino breakfast Try next time an Egg , dried fish and boiled vegetables like okra and Eggplant. Another typical Filipino breakfast. Enjoy your stay in Davao
Hey Ken, the pomelos in Davao are sweet and juicy, you should try the mangosteen and marang as well. ask the locals where you can find the "fruit stand" and the people that sell the fruits will typically let you try them. There are coffee shops around town that have good coffee and some even use local Davao coffee beans. I live in the US now but wish I was back home so, I can show you around. Amping pirmi (take care always)
Another local breakfast favorites are 1)Puto Maya with Sikwati and ripe mango- Steamed sticky rice with coconut milk paired with native hot pure chocolate and fresh ripe mango. 2)Champorado and fried pusit- Rice Porridge cooked with native chocolate known as tablea, good paired with fried dried squid or fish.
Ken, we love coffee!!!! But we buy 3 in 1 coffee or the ready to mix coffee. But I think in the province, they usually drink is cacao or the tablea (dark choco). Maybe in that place coffee is not a usual thing :) Aside in rice meals. The Filipino typical breakfast is "pandesal" it is a bread. A hot bread and its food in the morning with coffee or hot choco :) and taho! yehey
I can't stop smiling when you say the word "buongong". I love your video sir just go with the flow it's more fun in the Philippines enjoy and take care always Enjoy.
Welcome to Davao. Our British friend likes "tortang talong" - that is grilled eggplant, fried with scrambled egg plus other special ingredients. Or ampalaya with egg; serve with garlic rice for breakfast. That's unusual in that restaurant where they don't serve coffee for breakfast. Try breakfast meal @ Jollibee restaurant. Enjoy your time in Davao, Ken! Stay safe always.
Hi ken One of my comments is lost Its about places you need to visit in Davao. 1. Crocodile park 2. Philippine Eagle sanctuary 3. Bone museum 4. Puentisfina orchid farm 5. Chocolate factory 6. BEMWA 7. Sea of clouds 8. Try island hooping to see the big clams which are the source of pearls in Davao.
That's one of my favorite breakfasts. Sometimes I combine it with tomato with a salted egg. That is a liquified or softened tofu mixed with tapioca pearl and sweetener ( sugar almost caramelized); it's a good combination for breakfast.
The proper "Silog" is a fried rice + egg. When you add meat on it like Tocino (cured pork), it becomes Tocilog. If you pair it with Tapa (marinated beef), it's Tapsilog. Bangus (a kind of fish) will be Bangsilog and so on..
Hi, I am from Davao City. Tapa - is a thin sliced beef marinated with soysauce called Tapa or Beef Tapa. Si, stands for Sinangag or fried rice. Log, stands for Itlog or Egg.
Bangus is the fish you ate at one of the beach you went...with those group of people...Ken if you want cheap brewed coffee just get it from Mc Donalds or Jollibee....7/11, Mini Stop they also do have..you try Inasal..you need to squeeze the calamansi and chili to the black sauce , and dip the fish there....next time try bulalo, mushroom burger , sinigang ....yes taho is soft tofu pls try it.
It's the Taho man... it has silken tofu, boba balls and a syrup. My family used to always buy it in the early mornings when the Taho man first starts selling it and its still very freshly made. Its kinda like a dessert. Its absolutely delicious!
Thanks, Ken for showing us where not to eat breakfst when we go there. Kidding. "SILOG" literally are SInangag and itLOG. Sinangag is fried, garlic rice and itlog is egg. Those are very typically in the Filipino breakfast menu. Combined with Tapa (TAPsilog), Longganisa (LONGsilog), Tocino (TOsilog), etc., and yes, Bangsilog. That's just it. But you were served plain rice. Well... You should try Taho, it's another typical Filipino breakfast food. It's my substitute for coffee as a wake up drink(?) and energizer. Also, we are coffee drinkers here vs. tea drinkers. Coffee shops abound the commercial districts because that's where the lot of working people are. The neighborhood you stay in is a residential area where coffee is a household staple. That is why coffee shops are few there. That's what i think. Am happy you're doing great here in the Philippines, and loving how our country appeals well to you. Take care and, again, just ask. God bless you.
Hi ken, I've been there before in davao I suggested that you visit samal island. Btw ken Filipino are coffee lover, they should drink coffee at house then partner with pandesal in the morning. Shout out ken hope you notice this. Keep safe always and God bless 🙌
Bang - Si - Log means: Bang for Bangus or Milk Fish Si for Sinangag or Fried Rice Log for Itlog or Egg (Fried) Tap - Si - Log means: Tap for Tapa or Dried or Cured Beef To - Si - Log means: To for Tocino or Bacon or Cured Pork Fat Taho is a sweet snack made with soft tofu, tapioca pearls and caramelized sugar syrup.
You can also try to eat SISIG Ken..One of the most popular food in the Philippines, especially here in Pampanga central part of Luzon..1hour away in Manila..Enjoy Ken and have a safe trip.
Sir, try that Taho , if you're not in the main city it would be hard to find the Starbucks, but if you're close to the mall area you will find everything. You can go to big market or groceries. Watching from USA 🇺🇸
Ken, you should squeeze the calamansi to the soy sauce then you can deep your bangus/fish it will taste better. Whenever you see calamansi and soy sauce, chili serve in your meal that means mix together for your sauce.
Next time also you can buy hot "Pandesal" from a bakery around and it cost 2.50php plus Nescafe 3-in-1 instant coffee and bring it in a karenderia or small resto. You can match your pandesal for 2 sunnyside up egg. You can dip your pandesal into your coffee to bring up the taste of pandesal..or you can dip your pandesal into your egg
Tocilog means pork meat that is marinated( called Tocino) with eggs and fried or regular rice.. itlog means egg. U can have corned beef, sausages ,hot dog , dried fish like “ danggit” and fried rice in the morning. That is heavy breakfast. If it’s light Filipino breakfast u can have rolls( hot pandesal) with coffee and yes “ taho” ( ginger drink). U can have “puto”means sticky rice with cocoa( tabliya we call it)and mango fruit. A lot of “puto” u can find of different version. Also, hot cake ( waffle ) made from scratch and a lot more to mention..
Hello Ken, i heard you want to have coffee, next time buy Nescafe 3-in-1 coffee on a sari-sari store and then when you came to Karenderia or eatery to eat you can ask for a cup or glass of boiled hot water for free and you can mix your instant coffee !
Ken, in the Philippines if you dine in- at the resto. That have louder music you can ask them to turn off the music, to avoid copyrights issue in UA-cam.
Taho - is a soy bean curd mixed with brown sugar caramel as sweetener since soy bean does not carry a flavor by itself... it's nice for breakfast or dessert, especially when it's freshly cooked...
You can actually find pineapples and mangoes in UM bolton just near your hotel. Ask around how to get there or you can also try in San Pedro street where Davao City Hall is located.🍍🍉🍐 Looking forward to your next videos! P.S. We experience earthquake from time to time. 😢 Glad it wasn't a strong one. Stay safe!
Eateries like them don't have coffee as coffees are usually given or available at hotels with breakfast. Coffee shops are atleast 10 minutes walk from your area. Welcome to Davao Ken. There are lots to explore here.
Tap Si Log / Long Si Log / Bang Si Log / Cho Si Log - the 1st syllables (Tap = Tapa (beef), Long = Longganisa (sausage), Bang = Bangus (milk fish), Cho = Choriso (sausage)) defines the type of meat used in the dish, the 2nd syllables (Si) defines the type of rice served with the meal and that *definitely* was supposed to be "Sina-ngag" (broke it into syllables for clarity)... "Sina-ngag" means fried rice with garlic. the 3rd syllables (Log) are short for *Itlog* meaning egg.
Next you can try "Champorado" its sticky rice cooked like porridge but in a cacao or chocolate flavor sprinkeled with evaporated milk and some sugar.. then order also fried dried fish or we call it "Tuyo or Daing" its a salted dried fish fried and then you will finger hold biting its flesh while spooning your Champorado..! Thats it.. the pandesal dip in your coffee is a legend... the champorado is a countryside meal... Pilipino around you will be amazed because you are a genuine Pinoy..! Lol!
Thanks for all the interesting vid from Philippines. I have been hearing ppl talk about eating “Champorado” for breakfast. Maybe you can do a review on it? Taho is soyabean curd.
If you wanna drink coffee, you can buy an instant coffee powder, like 3in1. Brands are Nescafe, Kopiko, Great Taste among others, Ken. That's it! Btw, enjoy eating, dudz.
Yes, Ken, not only do we not grow the standard tea in the Philippines (like the variety they grow in Malaysia or Nepal), Filipinos are not big tea drinkers. The more traditional drink would be ginger tea ("salabat"). Coffee is drank among the locals but your typical carinderia would likely have the instant variety as investing in a basic coffeemaker is not priority (also, the common carinderia diner is not wont to have coffe with their meals, so the eateries hardly serve them ü )…hence, the coffee shops :D The man on the bike is selling taho (soy drink with taro pearls and caramel)-a healthy snack albeit with sugar. The morning taho vendor would be selling them fresh and warm and most Filipino kids all over the Philippines grew up having them in the mid-mornings.
@@KenAbroad @thnaykhwam Yes, we all love a warm serving of taho, don't we? :D It used to be almost daily when we didn't have school (or vacation, or even pre-school); as we got older and started missing our regular morning taho vendor (or "suki" - goes both ways: your regular and trusted vendor of food or things; their regular customer (us) ), so having taho as adults brings us back to those days :D Do, Ken! Give it a try BTW, some morning taho vendors are also evening balut vendors ü
When you get taho you can ask for a smaller amount of the sugar syrup so it's less sweet. I do that and sometimes ask for more of the tapioca pearls instead
That store is located in Bonifacio street. Just few blocks away from us here in Roxas avenue. So during early in the morning they are really not jam packed, but not time is a different story. Sisig is typically served with alcoholic drinks, not really for breakfast meal. Some eat it with rice as a viand. Tapsilog means tapa (beef strips) itlog (egg) served with garlic rice.
Hi Ken I been going to Philippines for a long time, yes it's hard getting a coffee sometimes, if it's not Jollie bee or maccas,or Dunkin donuts the best option walk into any decent hotel and umm sure you will get a coffee, cheers for now and hope to enjoy your channel more.
Taho is silky sweet tofu, it's a hot drink. For some it's quick breakfast and also an afternoon snack. You should try, it's very healthy-ish if you don't add the syrup.
TAHO, means tofu it’s sweeten liquids caramalized sauce , you can always request not to put too much sauce ! You can eat that like dessert or breakfast. Or snacks too. Also we also drink coffee except you to find a coffee shop or small quick stop store or restaurant.
Silog: fried or scrambled or poached egg and garlic fried rice. Then you just combine with your favorite viande or meats or fish. I sometimes like it with Portuguese or Spanish style pickled sardines in oil and spice. Or marinated boneless milk fish with my coffee or hot chocolate.
Hi Ken...Tapsilog is actually a coined Tagalog word sort of an acronym. TAP is tapa it may be beef, Si is sinangag wc is supposed to be fried rice but they served u instead plain/boiled rice, Log is itlog wc is the egg...u shld have tried Pomelo its the best in d whole world. BANGOS the one u ordered is milkfish.. Enjoy! God bless

The "silogs" define the quintessential Filipino breakfast.
"Silogs", a portmanteau of two words
1. "SInangag (Filipino styled fried rice) and "
2. itLOG" (fried egg)
The variety of the Filipino "silog" breakfast includes
TAPSILOG = tapa (Filipino styled fried or cured beef)
TOCILOG = tocino (Filipino sweet cured ham
LONGSILOG = Longganisa (Filipino styled Spanish sausage)
BANGSILOG = Bangus (Filipino fried milk fish)
plus many more silogs like danggit, hotdog, fried chicken
The common or the uniting theme to all these Filipino breakfast would therefore be the fried rice and the fried egg.
My only concern is more and more restaurants are offering SILOGs with plain steamed rice when it should be fried garlic rice like that restaurant that served your Bangsi log which served you plain steamed rice. So what if she is half German? Except for Ken being German, I don’t see the relevance.
For Filipino breakfast ,
Majority have :
a) PAN DE SAL ( from spanish word pan = bread & sal = sun
combined with
1) SALABAT ( ginger juice boiled , for elder ones )
2) coffee , different types
x ) roasted rice , grounded & boiled.
xx) barako , strong coffee beans
xxx ) commercial ready mix coffee
Typically pan de sal is eaten w/o cheese or any fillings as long as it is hot , or it is dip on your hot coffee.
b) those different " SILOG " types originated from lfamily home dinner left over , which is recook on breakfast , wise budget , nothing is thrown .
left over rice is fried , typically just add salt , but now differrnt version comes , you may add beside salt , toasted garlic & grounded , or egg , or potato .
left over fish , is fried on breakfast
etc etc , any left over is recook on other version .
Sal means salt in Spanish. Therefore Pan de Sal means "salted bread". Sun in Spanish is sol
I think that the sal in pan de sal is salt because the name of the bread is Spanish and means bread with salt
Love your videos, keep em coming..
Pro tip: whenever you see soy sauce, kalamansi, and red chili.. your supposed to mix them all together.

you should put the calamansi or lime in the soy sauce and get some of the fish and dip into your sauce then eat with the rice,it's really very good.

Wow lamia kaayo enjoy your eating ken happy Monday 😋😘
Wonderful content. thank you for sharing. have a good day!❤👍
It's the Taho man... it has silken tofu, boba balls and a syrup.
Great and interesting video as always. Loved it once again. Thanks Ken.👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️
Recently discovered your channel Ken. Good stuff.. you're a Natural!
Hi ken, I've been there before in davao I suggested that you visit samal island. Btw ken Filipino are coffee lover, they should drink coffee at house then partner with pandesal in the morning. Shout out ken hope you notice this. Keep safe always and God bless 🙌

You can also try to eat SISIG Ken..One of the most popular food in the Philippines, especially here in Pampanga central part of Luzon..1hour away in Manila..Enjoy Ken and have a safe trip.
Hi Ken, thank you for visiting our city, davao ❤❤❤
OMG, I feel like going home to have some of that. But I’m here freezing in snowy NY. Someday…. Enjoy my country’s cuisine, Ken.
Sir, try that Taho , if you're not in the main city it would be hard to find the Starbucks, but if you're close to the mall area you will find everything. You can go to big market or groceries. Watching from USA 🇺🇸
The pineapples must have been good for you to hunt. Fish looked good - WW
Enjoy yourself in the Philippines Ken.
Ken, you should squeeze the calamansi to the soy sauce then you can deep your bangus/fish it will taste better.
Whenever you see calamansi and soy sauce, chili serve in your meal that means mix together for your sauce.
Mt. Apo is stirring!
7:26 better you squeeze calamansi to the soy sauce and there dip bangus in it. Thats the right way to do it haha
Hi Ken! Welcome to Davao❤️💜
Try to eat TAHO, it's so yummy. Enjoy and ingat kayo Lage.
Actually those Filipino breakfast TOCILOG, TAPSILOG , BANGUS SILOG ALWAYS WITH GARLIC RICE NOT PLAIN RICE ..Garlic rice in tagalog sinangag..
TOCILOG: TOCINO ITLOG SINANGAG
TAPSILOG: TAPA ITLOG SINANGAG
BANGUS SILOG: BANGUS ITLOG SINANGAG.
Taho - is a soy bean curd mixed with brown sugar caramel as sweetener since soy bean does not carry a flavor by itself... it's nice for breakfast or dessert, especially when it's freshly cooked...
Glad to see you are game to eat what the locals eat. Safe travels
Stay safe!
Excellent content Ken
If you ever go to Tagaytay - try the barako coffee with carabao milk for creamer. You can also take freshly brewed chocolate with carabao milk.
try to visit EDEN GARDEN RESORT.. and JACK RIDGE if you want to unwind with overlooking view of Davao City downtown..
Eateries like them don't have coffee as coffees are usually given or available at hotels with breakfast. Coffee shops are atleast 10 minutes walk from your area. Welcome to Davao Ken. There are lots to explore here.
May Godbless You for visiting us here in our Loving Land Philippines
Tap Si Log / Long Si Log / Bang Si Log / Cho Si Log - the 1st syllables (Tap = Tapa (beef), Long = Longganisa (sausage), Bang = Bangus (milk fish), Cho = Choriso (sausage)) defines the type of meat used in the dish,
the 2nd syllables (Si) defines the type of rice served with the meal and that *definitely* was supposed to be "Sina-ngag" (broke it into syllables for clarity)...
Yummy perfect for breakfast preparation, enjoy
Yummy food enjoy sending support your channel
Citrus calamansi is not squeeze on the top of fish. It can be mix on sauces like soy sauce and chili and calamansi for a dip.
Coffee is drank among the locals but your typical carinderia would likely have the instant variety as investing in a basic coffeemaker is not priority (also, the common carinderia diner is not wont to have coffe with their meals, so the eateries hardly serve them ü )…hence, the coffee shops :D
The man on the bike is selling taho (soy drink with taro pearls and caramel)-a healthy snack albeit with sugar. The morning taho vendor would be selling them fresh and warm and most Filipino kids all over the Philippines grew up having them in the mid-mornings.
I love d morning taho. Warm but refreshing and healthy too.
Oh I'd like to try that taho
@@KenAbroad @thnaykhwam Yes, we all love a warm serving of taho, don't we? :D It used to be almost daily when we didn't have school (or vacation, or even pre-school); as we got older and started missing our regular morning taho vendor (or "suki" - goes both ways: your regular and trusted vendor of food or things; their regular customer (us) ), so having taho as adults brings us back to those days :D
Do, Ken! Give it a try BTW, some morning taho vendors are also evening balut vendors ü
@@thnaykhwam6554 ⬆ :D
You can also try ,
Fried rice with dried fish called
DAnggit . Plus , coffee .
Welcome to the philippines Ken
TAHO, means tofu it’s sweeten liquids caramalized sauce , you can always request not to put too much sauce ! You can eat that like dessert or breakfast. Or snacks too. Also we also drink coffee except you to find a coffee shop or small quick stop store or restaurant.
Also visit Samal Island right across Davao City. White sand beaches like in Cavanico, Paradise Island, or Pearl Farm.
When you go back to Davao, try the Goto (porridge with beef stripe) and tokwa baboy (soybean with pork slices and garlic) at Dencia’s restaurant.
ken it's look similar to NASI LEMAK in Malaysia. Enjoy your day at Philippines 👍
Enjoy! God bless
Nice Video sir Ken...
