  • On June 10, 1990, the pilot of BA 5390, Tim Lancaster, was blasted halfway out of his cockpit window and subjected to a two-pronged assault: the physical violence of that traumatic motion, and the extreme cold and lack of oxygen he endured at 17,000 feet.

You forgot to include that the first officer was holding on to him. That saved his life. And it was lucky that the first officer was strapped into his seatbelt, unlike Tim Lancaster

It said there was a crew member, Nigel, holding on to him? The first officer was flying the plane.
Also, the pilot did have his seatbelt on, he had only loosened it, and both pilots had taken off their shoulder straps.

Gosh, he’s got nine lives, I’d feel safe with him.

Some investigators thought it might be a blowout due to bird strike but it’s the engineer’s fault he installed narrow bolts in the captain’s and wind shield The pressure in the air was looking for weakness and it sounded so that’s why the windshield blow out

I know I got it wrong but the captain actually survived or passed out? I don't know To be honest!

Basically he survived due to a few factors…
1: the Near freezing temperature outside the plane. The human body has some rather amazing survival mechanisms and tricks that only kick in at the moment of need. And in this case his body being exposed to the sudden near freezing temperatures resulted in it pulling blood from his extremities(arms, legs) to keep the core vital organs like the heart, lungs, and brain warm and supplied with all of the Oxygen that was still in his blood.
There’s another case where a US Fighter pilot survived his Rollercoaster ride inside of a Thunderstorm after Ejecting from his jet while it was still going supersonic.
2: the shear determination of the men who held onto him as well as the luck that his legs got caught by the frame of the window.

Never mind the obvious need to keep your seatbelt on, but this incident clearly shows why military pilots wear air masks and thermo-regulating clothing (whether that be flight suits or even old-style bomber jackets).
