Playing OUTSIDE Like John Pisano - Stepping Out With Three Great Jazz Lines | Jazz Guitar Lesson
Вставка
- Опубліковано 11 тра 2024
- Here are three lines from John Pisano's solo on Chico Hamilton's recording of Caravan from 1957. These lines sound really modern, and are way ahead of their time! I also take a look at how to add a few notes to one of the lines to make it fit into a typical ii-V-I progression. Hope you enjoy!

This is terrific Mike. Thank you! John once told me that Tal was a bit jealous because John's hands were actually larger than his. Once I asked John to hold his hand up against mine. It was like a first baseman's glove and virtually swallowed my good-sized paw :-) It was no wonder Tal was a little distressed...his reputation was at stake. Ha. John is gone now but I'm writing an obit/tribute for Vintage Guitar Magazine in which I'd profiled him previously. He was the doyen of the L.A. jazz guitar scene.
Wonderful video Mike 🎸👍 thanks so much
Glad you enjoyed it man!
Very interesting, thanks for posting!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great examples!!!
I absolutely love these lines!
the first phrase sounds like F7 to C#m to B7 to me, like 6 to 5 in the tritone key.. I played this phrase descending through the diatonic chords in keys, a leading tone on the root to a leading tone on the 5th.
