The year 1982 was (in my opinion) the greatest year for albums ever in history. So much great music was released in 1982 (it truly was the golden age of pop music!) that nearly every week a landmark album was released. What an embarrassment of riches!! The ten albums that were my top favorites from 1982 are: 1. ABC - “The Lexicon of Love” 2. Associates - “Sulk” 3. Michael Jackson - “Thriller” 4. Simple Minds - “New Gold Dream (81-82-83-84)” 5. Haircut One Hundred - “Pelican West” 6. Thomas Dolby - “The Golden Age of Wireless” 7. Modern English - “After the Snow” 8. Yazoo - “Upstairs at Eric’s” 9. Fleetwood Mac - “Mirage” 10. Pete Shelley - “Homosapien” As always, a great video Ross. Thanks for sharing your favorites with us. 🎧
thanks for commenting and glad you enjoyed, a few ones there for me to check out, seen a few others mention ABC which I always dismissed as too poppy but will give that album a go.
Loved this vid, Ross! Superb work and I thoroughly enjoyed hearing what you had to say about all your albums from 1982 - many of which are personal faves 😊 Best wishes, Christian
Some notable omissons (for me): Under the Big Black Sun by X, Another Grey Area by Graham Parker, The Blue Mask by Lou Reed, 10-1 by Midnight Oil, Nebraska by Bruce Springsteen, The Nightfly by Donald Fagen, Shoot Out the Lights by R. and L. Thompson...the fact that these aren't on your list shows what a great year it was. I do cry foul over All the Best Cowboys though...I really love that album!
Great video Ross with some great albums! It’s crazy the contrast in the albums Paul and George did that year, like you say, such a shame George was past caring at that point. Completely agree about Mirage being an overlooked album as well.
My strong recommendation from 1982: "The Lexicon Of Love" by ABC. Not only my favourite album of 1982 but also my favourite album of the 80s and my fifth favourite album of all time (would be my #2 without Beatles, because The Beatles are #1-#3); it is one of the rare examples where every track is perfect and it also works as a whole. And they were never ever able to do a good let alone great album again after that...
Thanks for the recommendation, its one I think my uncle had in his collection but I dismissed as too poppy without giving it a chance- will give it a go as you're not the only one who's recommended it.
Hi Ross..Many great albums on your list and I agree with a lot of them. However I must disagree about Chinese Eyes. I think it's a brilliant album. I really like it. Some very good songs on there. I would also have picked Combat Rock by the Clash. Apart from London Calling I think this is their best album. Too Rye Aye by Dexys Midnight Runners is also a great album. Maybe Madness with The Rise and Fall should be there as well. And one album that would be in my list very close to the top is Nebraska by Bruce Springsteen. Different opinions is a good thing. We can both agree that 1982 was a fantastic year for albums🙂
a couple of people now have pulled me up on Chinese Eyes - think I should give it a bit more time as it was one of these albums I bought but never really gave any attention to until making this video a few weeks ago. Thanks for reminding me I do actually own Combat Rock but its a reissue so didn't appear on my discogs when I filtered for 1982 - I wonder how many others I missed out... Will check out the Dexy's album, I have just recently got Searching for the Young Soul Rebels which I thought was great so will give that other one a go.
Don't be ashamed Ross, not a Prince fan either. However, have plenty of time for Pete Townsend's All the Best Cowboys along with many of the rest, notably: Dire Straits, Marshall Crenshaw, Elvis Costello, Peter Gabriel, Joe Jackson, The Jam, Billy Joel, Psych Furs, Talk Talk and, most definitely my favorite too, XTC! ABC, Donald Fagan, Roxy Music and Rush released good-to-great albums also. Big year!

Great year for music. Thanks Ross. Tower Records named English Settlement album of the decade (1980s that is).
I can’t wait to watch this, Ross! Let’s see what gems you have selected from the Year of my Birth!
Best wishes,
Christian

Second on X, Springsteen and Thompson, oh and Reed.

and my #2 album of 1982: "Too Rye Aye" by Dexys Midnight Runners. One of the best feelgood albums of all time...

A great year, I'd go sulk the associates, Avalon Roxy music, and pornography the cure , my top 3 from this year
