I figure most people who watch a video like this just bought the dump trailer and are in the same place I am
Or they are thinking about buying it and wondering how well it does the job

@@RockhillfarmYT spot on... I watched the dump truck when he did my driveway. He has a rope that connects to latch... so he would raise the bed steep, snatch the latch and drive fast... set at two links... was impressive. Only altered the bed when he wanted to slow the flow or towards the end...

You probably have it figured out by now, but with crushed stone that has dust, instead of the washed stone, it needs a little wider opening and more tilt.

On a dump truck, you use the chain to throttle how fast the material comes out, 3 links sounds about right for that sticky 3 inch minus material, 2 links for clean flowing washed rock. Then you raise the dump body up so that the majority of the material is sitting against the closed tailgate, and when you pop open the tailgate open and start moving just keep raising the body until it hits top. Electric dump trailers raise up much slower than PTO driven hydraulic truck beds, so get a lot more material sitting against the tailgate to start off.
The trick is opening the tailgate when you are all set up to spread. Most dump trucks have an air locked tailgate controlled from the cab, but electric dump trailers are manual and much harder to open against pressure. So you need a helper to open that tailgate lever when the body is up in the air ready to spread and wave you on to GO!
No helper means you will have a pile to start off with, and bare spots where you can't get the body up fast enough to keep material pouring out evenly.
Watch this video and see the key is opening the tailgate at 3:38 and get moving AFTER most of the material is sitting against it.

That’s tuff to do with an electric dump trailer. I talked with an equipment dealer today about a hay Tedder and we started discussing price increases. He said that the last dump trailer they got in had went up 30% from last year.

    • @RockhillfarmYT
      @RockhillfarmYT  3 роки тому +2

The guy who sold me the trailer told me that it’s harder to tailgate with one of these than an actual dump truck
He also said they just sold their last 6 x 10 dump trailer for $4600 and that they were supposed to get some more in two weeks but they would be $6500
We’re seeing crazy inflation right now for sure

Just an idea. I assume you are using a gopro on the dump for the footage. What about using the gopro app on your phone to watch what the material is doing in real time as your tailgating it then you could adjust accordingly as you go.

    • @RockhillfarmYT

Sounds like a good idea. I’ve actually never used the gopro app but i’m sure it wouldn’t be that hard to figure out

Is there a wireless control option for your trailer? The tailgating of rock looks like it is a fine art and with practice one can develop the skill. Watching you use your trailer makes a little jealous, I have one on my wish list, but just haven't been able to pull the trigger to buy one.

When my neighbor did my driveway with his dump truck he didn't use the tail gate very much. He used speed and lift and experience to do it. The rock doesn't bind up if it's more free. He has an excavating business. But I think you can do it the way your trying but all of it will take practice.

    Great video
I ran tri-axle for many years. Gate spreading isn’t easy unless the conditions are perfect. With that said lol. With your set up as in Trailer of this kind the conditions become almost un-perfect.
Great job though btw. Having the load already set to the back lifted up and gate closed is the prefect scenario. Open gate as you start to move. The trailer you have doesn’t have that gate provision. I may not make sense but what you are doing is about the best you can do with what you have… until you start to wiggle in to the zone. More practice and next thing you know you will be doing circle horse rings with top soil lol. Again, great job and humble start. We love what you put out in content and the effort you put into everything without ego in the way.😎

Oh, I used to gate spread backwards into a mouth (driveway entrance for the immature crowd I run with lmao) when it was muddy and sloppy. Using #3 rock base material. I didn’t like to get my wheels and tires dirty 😆😉
