Volkswagen ID Software 4.0 Review. Is it really so much better?

  • The Volkswagen ID.7 is here so I had the change to review the ID software 4.0 on this car. Must say that it works way smoother than the 3.2/3.5 software. What do you guys think?

    Will short id buzz receive that 4.0 software via OTA? Or just LWB? I will receuve my new short version of id buzz and i would lile to receive 4.0. it's a new car produced 2 weeks ago. THANKS!

      Online the new engine MEB cars will get 4.x or 5.x the old ones dont because the hardware is different

    as Rental Cars, I drove Cupra Born and ID3. After just one day, I was lost again in this software UI nightmare. I tried to find the charging infos. Later I drove a Model3, and I realise: This is, how an UI should look like. The Tesla UI is perfekt and also for a unexperienced driver very easy to understand. VW makes crappy UIs, with to much different areas where you can find some buttons and click on.

      @@CarTechs_nl Tesla has but they are fewer and fewer. Love my Model Y so far. So many improvements in quality compared to the older model s I had.

    Does it have a page that will let you know what % of your battery went to things other than the traction battery? Many EV's have this page and the 2023 ID's don't. Really hope they have in the software 4 redesign.

      No it doesnt. Dont think its a mega plus. Why would you need it other then the motor usage

      @@CarTechs_nl why wouldn't they add it? Anything that helps the driver increase efficiency and know what the car needs to preform at its best seams like it should be included. It gives drivers more insight into all the elements using the traction battery. it's a tool to show how you can save energy by turning the heat down 1 degree for example. I personally would also like to know how much energy is used on preconditioning, so I could balance how far in advance to start preconditioning to make sure you still have enough range to make it to the charger but also increase the charging speed as much as possible. I also like to know why they don't let the driver see the temperature of the battery as this can impact range as well.

    How VW artificially maintains "superiority" over Škoda - they get to have a 15 inch screens while Škoda's upcoming Superb and Kodiaq only get 13 inches. Pretty funny

      Superiority? Skoda Enyaq has larger screen than VW ID4 and Audi Q4. Likely Skoda has decided it is big enough. I think it is.

    So instead of bringing back climate control buttons they still have the crappy screen only setup, so you have to go to menu to change air flow, fan speed.
    Still no dedicated radio buttons, icons, station presets, ridiculous having to go to menus to access radio.

      Why would you change it when its on automatic. I never change anything but the temp. Station presets where allways there

      @@CarTechs_nl Because I don't want it blowing in my face all the time and this is where it prioritises the air flow instead of giving an option to prioritise the air direction myself. I know I can move the vents but this is not what I'm talking about, Most of the time unless very warm out I want the air to my feet or windscreen.
      Auto fan on low,med,high isn't always the right speed for me.
      And when I press auto I don't always want AC on.

    Was the software instaled by the vw service or it came online? Mine is still 3.6.0

      3.x cars will never get the 4.0. This is the new my 2024 car

      @@CarTechs_nl i bought id7 this year model year 2024 but produced in December of 2023. So I hope I will get tge 4.0 software. Anyways you git it over the air or in the workshop?

      @@CarTechs_nl Yeah failed promises of software updates, shame on VW ! I'm stuck on crap 3.2. really makes the whole ID range of cars on 3.2 and less a pretty shitty experience, the cars are great to drive but the ergonomics really bad.

    if this really does not make it into the used id3 id4 cars I would be pissed as an owner. they had the trashiest software, received updates for 3 years fixing only the most blatant failures and now there's finally a useable version of the software but they don't get to have it?
    if you buy any cell phone for a couple hundred euros you get 3 years minimum software updates. and we are talking about software that is not in that trash state as VW's systems were in the beginning. car manufacturers are so lost when it comes to software...

      It wont be in the 3.x id models because of the new hardware. The same is on cell phones, computers etc. After a year the are old.
      The 3.x cars will be updatet to 3.9.

      @@CarTechs_nl Thanks for answer, do you know if version 3.5 will come to us? I have 3.2 now, don´t know if there is a importent diffrens betwin them.

      @@CarTechs_nl I hope to see at least some future updates on the 3.x software, like the heating/cooling functionality for the battery and the updated UI for these screens. Those seem (except if additional hardware is needed for the heating/cooling) non-hardware related. Reason I'm hoping is that my ID3 (lease) is only two months old. So it's fine (now), but at least four years without any update(s) would make it feel outdated very fast.
      I wouldn't consider the face-lifted ID3 an "older" model already 😅

      @@TomClaessens the cooling or heating wont come to the 3.x models. Only the 4.x cars will get this because its a hardware thing
