Jarrod will you do a review on the IETS 600GT and Ilano style laptop coolers? I've found they can drop temps even up to 20-25 Celsius Not sure how safe it is for the internals though, blowing that much air directly into your laptop...
Yeah they are great, and especially the dust filters help alot in the long run; your fans don't get absolutely clogged with dust and you rarely if ever have to clean them.
This laptop is a monster and the best 4090 laptop apart from the Titan which costs 600EUR more. I only wish it wasn't plastic, when I am paying 4k for a laptop it should definitely be metal and it would be nice to have an OLED or 4K display too. However the 2023 version costs nearly 1000EUR less here and it performs the same in games. It doesn't have a miniLED display but you can just buy a 4K 240hz QD-OLED monitor with the money that you save. 14th gen Intel is a scam
The Titan is mediocre in all test and only looks the best on paper. And given the results, this laptop is not the best 4090 either. Even the 2023 is better, and on some tests it's actually the worst 4090. It is a monster though, and I totally adore the mini-LED screen. But that alone is no reason to justify the expense.
14th gen is just a refresh so no surprise that it can only boost .4Ghz over the 13th gen. Maybe next gen we will see leaps to above 6Ghz. Idk if we will see more cores though. Eventually we will need an entirely new cooling solution. I feel like cooling solutions are about to run into a brick wall as they are already struggling with the i9 13900hx. I can't imagine having to control heat output from 6Ghz and even more cores. Companies have to start being way more innovative if we want even more powerful processors in laptops.
As someone that just sold the 2023 Scar 18 to buy this one I have to say, subjectively I think there are more differences then mentioned here, the charger appears to be a GAN charger now which is a big improvement, the sound quality is much clearer then my previous 2023, it's better subjectively to my 2023 Blade 18 actually, and the design although subtle has also changed on the deck itself, the screen was always good on the Scar 23 but this appears much the same but with OLED like levels of contrast, the black levels are almost a match for my Sony A9L with only off angle viewing giving the game away slightly, this is a really lovely laptop now and easily the best of the 3 I've experienced in the past 18 months.
Sound is different because they've now included Dolby Atmos and Cirrus Logic instead of just RealTek. Makes a fucked up experience of setting it up, but once you learn it all it's fine.
Please compare this machine to the 2024 Acer Helios 18, which also has a 1000 nit mini-LED display and costs a lot less. The 2024 Acer Helios 18 also has a 1080p webcam unlike the Scar's 720p webcam, a micro-SD card reader, and Wi-Fi 7 instead of Wi-Fi 6E like the Scar.

Hello jarrodtech, I am planning to buy a budget gaming laptop within this week. I want to ask if the new MSI Thin A15 is any different to its predecessor MSI gf63 thin? Also, how is the build quality compared to its competition like victus and nitro?
Well I did buy the 2023 version a month ago. Scar 18 seemed to be the best option for me (high performance desktop replacement mainly for work and occasional gaming, watching movies etc. And I wanted a good 18 inch screen, that was the main requirement). Well, CPU fan on this one was making a bit not-very-usual sound in higher rpms. Like a not-lubed bearing, or how to describe it. Rattling, but not like a broken fan rattling. I could live with it, but not for the money + I wanted to stay on the safe side - so I returned it and decided to get the 2024 because of the display. Yes, I paid the extra money. Not a big deal for a dev who was planning to keep it at least 5 years. And what a surprise! GPU fan on this one was making a very high pitch noise, which was almost impossible to notice in low rpms, but from lets say 30% up it was very annoying and almost crawling into my brain (like the high pitch sound devices for scaring mice or dogs). I + other persons could hear it standing several meters away, over the standard fan-air noise and a nearby running fridge... So, I thought it was a defective unit.. went to reddit, googled a little, and found several guys who bought this machine in the last month (all over the world) and reported the same issue. The thing is, all 3 fans in this device have got different sizes. I am a bit suspicious it may be a GPU fan design fail, not a real defect. Maybe the airflow is just catching some edge or whatever in this one and its making the whistling noise.. Anyway, fans in any Scar 18 are cheap crap, shame on Asus to put something like that into such expensive machines. My 6 years old 3 times cheaper laptop fans from another brand work like a swiss watch. No rattling, no whistling, no nothing. I returned the 2024 Scar as well and decided to wait for 2025 laptops, as there is no other option for me right now. I would like to get a good 18 miniled, but only with multizone / singlezone backlight switch (because of work) and unfortunately Asus is the only one making it right now.
The amount of diminishing returns by the end of the video is a very informative stat, especially for high-end devices, & should make recurring appearances.
I tried the 2023 model rtx 4080 of this. The AC adapter quickly gets very hot, the battery life is horrible, the build quality is just acceptable, and the price is ridiculous.
what's it called when someone laughs quickly a little bit when talking Copilot The phenomenon you’re referring to is often called nervous laughter1. It’s a stress response to uncomfortable situations and serves as a way for the body to relieve tension or as a defense mechanism to avoid painful emotions1. However, if the laughter is inappropriate or follows every sentence, it could be a sign of certain conditions such as Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) or Tourette’s Disorder2. If you or someone else is experiencing this frequently and it’s causing concern, it may be helpful to consult with a healthcare professional.
This video made me really glad I bought last year's model instead. It was far cheaper in the EU and this still even outperforms this one, if you don't need a mini LED screen I'd definitely recommend it over this one, at least for the 4090 version. Pretty much the same deal with all laptops released this year though.

does anyone have any idea when 5000 mobile series will come out? I really do have other financial priorities but I am interested in something like this or the Titan HX.. I had a G53JW back in college and loved that thing. I think a mobile 4090 or 4080 should best my desktop 3070, but it would be nice if was a larger perf gain.
What is the "Total System Latency" in a desktop? I couldn't find the data honestly. I believe Jarrod knows. So that i can understand if laptops and desktops have different System latency then in the case which is more responsive and how much. Thanks
What about Scar 16. I just wanna get a really *powerfull* but not that overpriced *4090 laptop.* Around 3400 - 3600 dollars could work. If even cheaper alternatives are available. Please recommend.
I still don't get why u r not testing games at native res (1600p 16:10 aspect ratio) but at 1080p and 1440p... Games will at mostly default to the native aspect ratio and res so I think that's the best way to get real world and optimal results...
the price is crazy high, expected though for a 4090 with 18 inch screen. i'm more focused on a 4060/4070 laptop this year and hopefully i will get one soon with such GPU, thinking about nitro 17/ helios 18/ alienware m18 for such a price, if anyone tried one of those laptops, your input would help a lot thanks.
Hi! Do you mind if i ask your opinion in deciding the best laptop to get? I'm looking to get the Lenovo Legion Slim 5 Gen 9 AMD (16″) with RTX 4070 for 1407.59 USD Or should i just get the Lenovo Legion Slim 7i Gen 8 Intel (16″) - RTX 4060 1449.99 USD Both have 1tb of internal storage
Probably the Intel one but first make sure that the models you have, are the same specifications as the models I found in my search. Firstly make sure the screens are the same. For my search I found out that the the Intel one actually had a better 500nit and 240hz screen while the AMD one had a 350nit 165hz screen. If this is the case get the Intel one. In my search I also found that the Intel is a i9 13900hx and the amd is 8845hs, and in this case the Intel processor is much better than the amd.
Thank you once again for your unparallelled, detailed and in-depth review; this only further cements my desire for a 7945HX-/7945HX3D-equipped rig. I can only hope that they splurge for a decent (OLED/QOLED/Mini-LED) screen for the Ryzen rigs. /kudos

@@VengFPV No, it does not have that screen, it's an IPS screen. Why would anyone pay an extra $1500 for it?
Side by side, there will be little difference.
@@scavengerspc Side by side there's an absolutely huge difference between SDR and a good HDR screen.. is it worth the cost for such a small screen though? Probably not. Better off getting a good TV for less.
@@VengFPV Well I have never seen one on a laptop, but I have seen a mini LED TV (Sony Bravia XR) and I can't say the difference was all that great.
I just found one of these reconditioned for 1.6k€. I'm very skeptical.
You think this laptop will be good with streaming? The 4080 version? I’m between the ASUS 18inch and a Alienware aurora R16 4080 desktop , I want to use it for streaming and gaming but not sure which one to pick , could y’all help me please or give me the best advice 🙏🏽
Hey Jarrod, what do you think of the MSI Raider 2024 refresh? I am torn between the SCAR and the Raider.
Hey Jarrod, can you comment on the blooming (or lack thereof) when moving the cursor on a black background / interface?
Hi Jarrod, I notice that when you comparing the price, the first one start with $2599 is not strix scar but strix. While the following laptop is strix scar. Are these two laptops the same but different screen or they are two different laptops? Thank you!
My i9 13980hx get over 90 c during gaming. I tried everything but temp do not improve.
Which laptop?
Clean fans, vents, make sure ur setup doesnt obstruct airflow. If those dont work just repaste ur cpu. If that dont work, under warranty get it replaced. If u cant get it replaced send it in for repair.
Send it in if it's still under warranty.
Never attempt to replace factory thermal paste..
Lower settings.
@@dreadowen616if you lower settings, fps goes up and cpu goes up... sigh
Are you gonna review the HP Omen Transcend 14??? Waiting for your review
I would like to get a good 18 miniled, but only with multizone / singlezone backlight switch (because of work) and unfortunately Asus is the only one making it right now.
do you have the option to turn off the rgb lighting on the sides of the laptop?
Yes you can customize every single lightning element.
You can even turn off the 3 annoying LED lights, can’t stand that blinking one. So glad you can turn them off.
So what's a great laptop to buy for $2500? I was looking into the Acer helios predetor 18.....
Does it have enough features to play counter strike 2? This is all matters to me
Do a review of the acer predator Helios 3d spatial labs
Any plans to review the 2024 Yoga Pro 9i 16?
You forgot HDR gaming as a reason to get a miniled screen
So is scar 17 x3d the best laptop right now for gaming? Are you gonna do a review on it?
pretty much
HI WHAT WOULD YOU RECOMMEND BETWEEN THE LEGION 9I 2024 MINI LED 4090 AND THIS SCAR18?
what's it called when someone laughs quickly a little bit when talking
Copilot
The phenomenon you’re referring to is often called nervous laughter1.
Is new TUF available in Australia.
I'm still waiting for the price drop of the 2023 version of Scar 18. When will it happen, anyone take a guess?
This video made me really glad I bought last year's model instead. It was far cheaper in the EU and this still even outperforms this one, if you don't need a mini LED screen I'd definitely recommend it over this one, at least for the 4090 version. Pretty much the same deal with all laptops released this year though.
Looking for a budget laptop with a rtx 4060 installed... Honestly was attracted by the msi sword 15.. unfortunately no proper reviews on UA-cam, could you make a review on it..
jarrod do u have a custom internet plan

Now that 2023 models sold out in my country, there are 2 reasons to buy this for me. I hope I’ll get this before it gets sold out or wait and get 5090 model…
what happened to OLED scar
I just got the scar 16 and it's insane, I used mostly for games and it handles everything at max settings
I'm trying to get my hand on an msi laptops.. i read ppls reviews saying msi makes the worst laptops and such could u review the msi sword 15 ... Thanks
very smart getting sponsors from another brand to review another brand, now we can rule same brand bias out. Thanks.
I got the version with a 4080. Pretty happy with it so far but havent been able to test out the miniled screen too much yet unfortunately
How are the thermals, do you use a cooling pad, and what temp is your AC at?
@@wardog5537 I’ll try to remember to check next I’m gaming, haven’t felt the need to get a cooling pad.

4080 asus strix or legion pro 7i?
Will this laptop be compatible with

You need to repaste CPU. Factory liquidmetal application is very unreliable. Should be getting 30K+.
Got it on sale for 2k ❤️ 🔥
I think its best to settle with the 4080 version at $2600
I bought it for $2000 including official backpack, keyboard and mouse. Am I ripped off?
does anyone have any idea when 5000 mobile series will come out? I really do have other financial priorities but I am interested in something like this or the Titan HX.. I had a G53JW back in college and loved that thing. I think a mobile 4090 or 4080 should best my desktop 3070, but it would be nice if was a larger perf gain.
How about the latencymon? It kinda concerns me as almost all last year's laptops were performing poorly
Killua hello
Get a laptop without Nvidia.
What is the "Total System Latency" in a desktop?
I couldn't find the data honestly. I believe Jarrod knows.
So that i can understand if laptops and desktops have different System latency then in the case which is more responsive and how much.
Thanks
I believe the same definition applies to desktop and laptops, time from physical input to photon response
When I first saw this video, it was playing in an automated Spanish voice, now it works fine?!! How the fuck???
UA-cam does AI voice dubbing for 2 different languages and automatically sets it based on your region. You can change it with the audio track option.
I have 2023 version with same specs, so only uograde is faster ram and better screen?
There is also some slight upgrade in 3rd fan speed. But not that big of a deal if you’re happy with yours.
What about Scar 16. I just wanna get a really *powerfull* but not that overpriced *4090 laptop.* Around 3400 - 3600 dollars could work. If even cheaper alternatives are available. Please recommend.

Judging by this video, the best laptop to go for is the Asus Scar 17 (2023) with the Ryzen 9. Am I wrong?
Hi!
Do you mind if i ask your opinion in deciding the best laptop to get?
I'm looking to get the Lenovo Legion Slim 5 Gen 9 AMD (16″) with RTX 4070 for 1407.59 USD
Or should i just get the Lenovo Legion Slim 7i Gen 8 Intel (16″) - RTX 4060 1449.99 USD
Both have 1tb of internal storage
Probably the Intel one but first make sure that the models you have, are the same specifications as the models I found in my search. Firstly make sure the screens are the same. For my search I found out that the the Intel one actually had a better 500nit and 240hz screen while the AMD one had a 350nit 165hz screen. If this is the case get the Intel one.
In my search I also found that the Intel is a i9 13900hx and the amd is 8845hs, and in this case the Intel processor is much better than the amd.
@@Memerboi-zd3me thanks! I ended up getting the Lenovo legion pro 5i gen 8.

The fastest your CPU supports at the lowest timings possible that don't require XMP. Dual rank (2Rx8) is a bonus.
