I saw this when it was broadcast, 14 or 15 years old and was very very impressed by this combination of synths, etnic music & dance & rock. It was way ahead of it’s time. It really had the shock of the new
I have the Bali Agung CD/DVD Combo that came out a while back but I'm hearing stuff on here thats not on the cd. I wonder who the back up band playing ostly traditional instruments are.
Dave King is on electric bass guitar. The drummer on the right looks like Aldo Romano -- could it be him? Who are the guitarist and the other percussionist?
Definitely Morris Pert behind you. Morris David Brough Pert (8 September 1947 - 27 April 2010)[1] was a Scottish composer, drummer/percussionist, and pianist who composed in the fields of both contemporary classical and jazz-rock music. Played with Stomu Yamash'ta and Brand X too
@@daveking4974 Indeed, the drummer/percussionist who sometimes can be seen on the left-hand side, behind the bassist, is confirmed to be Morris Pert. However, I wonder who is the drummer with moustache on the right-hand side? Also, it would be very interesting to know who is the guitarist of the rock band in this video -- would you have any remembrance thereof, Mr. King? Thanks a lot in advance for answering again!
@@hendrikdecker1065 Yes, I think that was Aldo on drums, I remember playing with him around that time, probably also on this gig. Siggi Schwab guitar and Tarang. Maurice Pert in percussion. We did 4 TV shows on that tour.
Why was Eberhard pretending to conduct? The Indonesians just played their traditional music and we, the western musicians (me on bass), just improvised! I guess Eberhard was conducting for the TV cameras.
Well, I think that Eberhard was the conductor because this gig was a realization of his own original idea of fusioning rock with Balinesian music and dance -- see him and Pete York on drums rehearsing and performing with the Balinese musicians and dancers in ua-cam.com/video/X01UhJKoWiU/v-deo.html . Anyway, I greatly enjoy watching and hearing the performance of Dave King, Maurice Pert, Siggi Schwab, Aldo Romano, Eberhard Schoener and the Balinese artists -- Thanks!!
Eberhard's BS, pretending to conduct, was completely unnecessary on this gig. There was not one note written! The Balanese played their folk music and we improvised completely free!
Damals ARD Primetime am Samstag. Heute höchtens Mittwoch morgens um 3 auf Arte.
My 1964 Fender precision bass! I sold it in the 90's

The miming to the sequencer pattern at the beginning is not very convincing. :-) But, we were really playing!

Heute setzt man uns Helene Fischer vor.
Had to watch it a second time to realise Morris Pert was the other drummer 😅.
Yeah. Morris was there, he was a blast to hang with!
@daveking-sandbox9263 If time travel were real, I would go back to the days where he was present with Brand X

If I remember correctly the drummer was Maurice Pert from Ireland. It wasn't Aldo.
