The top screw adjustment on the steering box in the center top cap, loosen the nut and run the adjustment screw down till it gets tight and back off 1/8 turn.
Excited about the S10. I have a 98 and I installed a floor shifer but didn't hook up the wires. It would be helpful to show us how you did all that. I've bee wanting to install a V8 since I bought it new, now that I have the time(retired) I don't have a shop to use anymore.
Rear suspension tip, ride tech makes a triangulated 3 link kit for the S10. No need to custom fab one. They also provide 2 different options for spring/shock combo. Traditional coil over, or airbag over shock.
Awesome to see both trucks getting some love. Your timeframe on these projects is so much more realistic than some other UA-cam videos. Think we have been spoiled by watching one seem to come together in 4 weeks. That's not realistic for most, unless they can commit huge amount of time and resources to it. Most people who are hobbyists, building themselves take even longer. Seen them last 10+ years, because life happens.
The interior looks great in the ugly truck and like you said the 5.3L would be great for the S-10 and with a few mods like you mentioned it will be a fun truck to drive!
It's the redhead. The XJ community jumped at them when they were a new company, no issues great box. Now, they're trash & we all avoid them for psc or bluetop. Couple of guys have had failures out of box. Some have torn them down to find a painted part store "rebuild" that was broken to hell.
Just went thru this with my 03 Silverado. Get the truck on a pit so there’s resistance and weight on the tires, than have someone move the steering wheel back and forth just a lil bit and inspect where the play is at, start moving the steering wheel back and forth harder and youll probably find alot more slack on places than you thought . My truck had that same effect you mentioned and it took replacing the steering shaft u joint, fixing the gear box, replacing 2 pitman arms, new tie rods, upper/lower control arm bushings , ball joints, sway bar bushings and new links, new shocks and alignment to fix it and now it drives like a new truck.
LT, eBay has perfect fit seat covers. They just need rpo codes. Oh, for us guys with vertigo, you need to move your camera around just a bit slower...OMG
Awesome 💪🏻💪🏻 love these old Chevys🫡🇺🇸 Wonder if it’s in the rear, causing the wander from rear steer, a rear misalignment/tweaked in the leaf springs/bracket somewhere in the back
Sorry to be late to the party... But you might try circuit board medics to have them repair that trip computer... But the reason I search out the latest on the ugly truck was that I had to 2 ideas for quality of life improvements for it/you: 1) a 2 inch body lift. You can source this from a 2500hd from 2001 - 2007 (the 2007.5 - 2010 *might* be compatible). That would give you extra room in the engine bay. 2) An HD hood. That will also give you room in the engine bay. If you do both, you might have room to add AC back. I apologize for not following more closely; life just kind of got in the way. On the flip side, my builder has almost finished my Quadrasteer swapped Duramax build (as much as any build is ever really "finished").
Look into the tubular upper and lower control arms that convert to a coil over. They only come for cyclones and typhoons so far which has a ball joint angle for lowered four wheel drives. Then you might as well since you're such a good fabricator try to get a trail blazer steering rack and convert it over to rack and pinion
LT, you should just rebrand the ugly truck and call it “sweet ass Denali truck”. Make the inside so nice and plush with all the Denali stuff that you could take your wife out for a date, yet still run a 10 second quarter-mile. Does that make sense, no. But why not? It would be cool anyway.! Who does not need a sweet and ridiculously fast truck !
Wild, I have a WT and a Denali that I’m going to do that swap with - 6.0, power doors and windows, cruise, auto AC, etc. I’ll probably keep the manual 4x4 but have pondered swapping over the AWD.
I have a 2000 S10 Xtreme and I converted the steering over to rack & pinion. Night and day difference, because you cant get a gearbox as tight of steering without spending a fortune on it.
Turn that 5.3 into a modern take on the 383, since that is kinda the theme! LS383 with a decent cam can give you around 600HPs before adding a supercharger on top
Reflow the solder points on the trip computer, save yourself a trip to the JY. Pun intended. Hey, I might be really moving to your town after all. Would like to come visit again, help with projects, sweep the shop, etc.
If you didn’t want just a set screw in the steering shaft could you just drill a complete hole in it and longer bolt ? Serious question is why I’m asking and if it’s a bad idea because of the amount of material in the shaft is being removed.
@@jakobsimmons9997 right I’ve torn apart a lot of different brand vehicles and models from working at a wrecking yard. There’s many manufacturers that use a threw bolt for that exact reason and make it easier to get to other items in the engine bay.
So Lt you made the comment about the trip computer and it showing a top speed. Inquiring minds want to know what it has said for the high score? My personal best with mine is 135 and it is a NA 5.3L in a Yukon Denali. Soon it is getting a ZL1 blower fron boost district like your COPO truck had on it. That was a sweet truck. Keep up the great work love the videos. I'm also a 8.1L guy. No replacement for displacement.
That redhead box could be the problem. My brother got a bad one from them. Customer service was ok. Got it replaced after arguing when the 1st was going to be shipped back
Does the frame flex on the s-10? On older 1/2 ton trucks frame flex is the majority of the wandering steering issue. I would put a go pro on the core support and see what moves. You might be surprised.
After doing the same upgrades on my Syclone and getting the alignment adjusted i still have some wandering but its due to the track width. Seems some roads i drive on have some dips from heavy trucks and some of the road crown as well. Thats just me. Over all the steering is much better in my Sy.
I still think a well-built 350 would be a better fit for the S-10. LS swaps are very good and I have nothing against it, but it just seems to me that the old-school 350 would look more period-correct in the S-10 and is still a very capable engine.
Love your channel , I have a question i just bought a 2024 Silverado trail boss. I would like to mod the muffler with a muf delete. would you take the flapper valve out? or leave it in? thanks Adriaan
S10’s have variable steering boxes; what you’re feeling is typical S10 driving. To get rid of it get a jeep box; same bolt up, same box, same ratio, just not variable
I had a Red Head installed in my 2015 Ram, the sector adjustment screw is ALL the way backed out and seized in the cap. Also, it's leaking at the sector shaft after only 2 years..it's TOTALLY garbage! Know anyone that wants a core?? I'm going to PSC with bolt on hydro assist. I've already replaced the steering shaft, draglink and tie rod wit Apex stuff.
Why not install a collapsible steering shaft? Looks like borgeson parts ..they sell a collapsible shaft. I'd personally rather not eat the steering wheel in an accident.
I came to say the same thing... Most of his videos have turned into a bunch of OTC nothingness and zero actual progress on his builds. Like the video of him taking the crusty clear bra off the awd truck... Like, what??? That's what you're doing? Maybe funds are tight to buy parts for real progress?? Idk, I miss when he was actually building stuff in his garage...
I'm speaking from a shop owner/operator standpoint.... Believe it or not it's actually easier to make good progress on projects at home in the evenings and weekends while working a day job. You would think having a full shop at your disposal all the tools and lift you would need to get projects done way faster but by the time your done it's real hard to stay motivated.
So he is supposed to give up his dream of owning his own shop and making money for his family to just do UA-cam even though UA-cam is not a garranteed money maker month to month for ever ? Leave him to his dream and the UA-cam videos you get to watch are just an added bonus for you to watch
Love the Denali interior 👍. Put the 5.3 in the s-10 already! lol
Idk what folks complaining about. I'm glad you got time to post on UA-cam. We got a two for one as well! 😂😂
The top screw adjustment on the steering box in the center top cap, loosen the nut and run the adjustment screw down till it gets tight and back off 1/8 turn.

Love your videos LT ! I look forward to them every week
Excited for the S10. Im gonna steal some ideas. I want to keep my 4.3 and install a wind adder. Lol
That's what I'd hope he would do. Adding a 5.3 is him almost being lazy. His channel. His truck.
It's the redhead. The XJ community jumped at them when they were a new company, no issues great box. Now, they're trash & we all avoid them for psc or bluetop.
Couple of guys have had failures out of box. Some have torn them down to find a painted part store "rebuild" that was broken to hell.
I have the same experience on my chevy truck, i guess i paid more just to have the housing cap painted red
@@justinkramer3653 basically all it is now is the pretty red cap.

Bold move putting that Dorman part on there!
I use Dorman stuff all the time.. should I stop?
Awesome 💪🏻💪🏻 love these old Chevys🫡🇺🇸
Wonder if it’s in the rear, causing the wander from rear steer, a rear misalignment/tweaked in the leaf springs/bracket somewhere in the back
Watch the set screw on Holley shaft at box. Mines came loose a few times and has actually wore the splines in the yoke

Regarding the steering shaft- honestly much better off hitting it with the MIG. Way less heat goes into it

I have a 2000 S10 Xtreme and I converted the steering over to rack & pinion. Night and day difference, because you cant get a gearbox as tight of steering without spending a fortune on it.
I replaced the rag joint on my 2000 S10 Blazer with a U joint and it was a huge upgrade.
Turn that 5.3 into a modern take on the 383, since that is kinda the theme! LS383 with a decent cam can give you around 600HPs before adding a supercharger on top
S10. I need more S10. Would love to drive a rebuilt s10 with a lS in it.
Reflow the solder points on the trip computer, save yourself a trip to the JY. Pun intended. Hey, I might be really moving to your town after all. Would like to come visit again, help with projects, sweep the shop, etc.
I think the Duramax AC setup fits with many turbo setups
The top shaft probably has a ball and trunion joint. It allows the shaft to change length slightly when it rotates.
252 👍's up LT thank you for sharing 🤗
If you didn’t want just a set screw in the steering shaft could you just drill a complete hole in it and longer bolt ? Serious question is why I’m asking and if it’s a bad idea because of the amount of material in the shaft is being removed.
Exactly what I would've done. Keeps u-joints serviceable separate from the shaft itself.
@@jakobsimmons9997 right I’ve torn apart a lot of different brand vehicles and models from working at a wrecking yard. There’s many manufacturers that use a threw bolt for that exact reason and make it easier to get to other items in the engine bay.
What would you rather have in the ashtray spot?
I could see a gauge cluster the dash doesn't have but you want and/or a sneaky nos switch in it.
Can also replace the bushing at the firewall
Love a good simple shop video

I like the updates
Turbo definitely!
That redhead box could be the problem. My brother got a bad one from them. Customer service was ok. Got it replaced after arguing when the 1st was going to be shipped back
Hey LT there are electric a/c compressor options. The compressor can be mounted anywhere on the vehicle. Just a suggestion for the ugly truck.
i had a S10 blazer 4.3 thats how they drive the front end feels heavy to me still a great truck
5:05 I hear Pantera in the background. I know Dinebag when i hear one of his solos.
Id look into a bump steer tierod kit and or adjust the steering box. Ive never bought one that i didn't have to adjust the play out of 🤷♂️
Does the frame flex on the s-10? On older 1/2 ton trucks frame flex is the majority of the wandering steering issue. I would put a go pro on the core support and see what moves. You might be surprised.
On the 4.3 in the S-10 have you considered a supercharger like a Magnuson unit
After doing the same upgrades on my Syclone and getting the alignment adjusted i still have some wandering but its due to the track width. Seems some roads i drive on have some dips from heavy trucks and some of the road crown as well. Thats just me. Over all the steering is much better in my Sy.

Try adjusting the sector shaft.
it will be cool if you make the ugly truck less ugly. and give it some exterior some love
Love your channel , I have a question i just bought a 2024 Silverado trail boss. I would like to mod the muffler with a muf delete. would you take the flapper valve out? or leave it in?

Jeep Cherokee steering shaft swap is a bolt in. $65 on Amazon.
You don't seem to be a fan of weld thru primer, whats your take on that?
Not gonna lie, “Ugly truck” sitting there looking like Miss America next to the race truck. 🤣 💅
Have you checked the backlash in the steering gearbox?
Vintage air system
would have been interesting to stick with a more modern 4.3 but still turbo it
I could fix the connection inside the trip computer for you, I'm really good at soldering.
S10’s have variable steering boxes; what you’re feeling is typical S10 driving. To get rid of it get a jeep box; same bolt up, same box, same ratio, just not variable
Check the box play seen them have play out off the box new
It was still a great video
It's probably gear box if has idler arm and pitman arm..if has a rack than it that...every new
Just build the 5.3 into a 383
Sounds like the new gearbox needs to be adjusted.
I would like to see a 4.3 turbo in the s10 but the 5.3 is good enough
Did you fix the coolant leak?
I think the sloppy steering feeling is in the front alignment I think the factory alignment is crap (compared to something like a Camaro)
Something needs a MANUAL!
It's to bad your not making the S10 into a 4X4 that would be cool.
The 99-02 is a lighter grey than the 03-06
You realize now your gonna start body working and painting the Ugly Truck
How much slop is in your tilt wheel?
Bro how your hair is now is on point.. wierd comment to make I know.. but that's the look
The Cyclone didn't have a LS V8 in it, so why are you putting a LS in your truck?
Car without A/C take down the right side windows 3-4 inch and you got a nice air movement in your car.
8:30 try replacing the bump stops you shaved. They are ment to squat with weight that could be your drift.
What happen to the new edge with the 5.4
Wasn't the cyclone a v6?
I will never remove A/C from a vehicle ever again. Because summer.
I've already replaced the steering shaft, draglink and tie rod wit Apex stuff.
why not go with an electronic ac compressor that way you don't have to worry about fitting something to the engine.
Why not install a collapsible steering shaft? Looks like borgeson parts ..they sell a collapsible shaft. I'd personally rather not eat the steering wheel in an accident.
This design is collapsible, the new lower shaft slides into the upper just like the factory design
Getting kind of half assed on the videos man hard to watch
My husband had an S10 with over 300k miles until the truck was totaled in an accident.
I see rack & pinion in your future....
5:05 You know where you are ??
Get a Tesla or a Volvo electrical ac => no exhaust mod!!!
Where’s your copo truck ??
He sold it over a year ago to finance his new shop and move
I must of missed that video.
Jerking the camera around so fast has thrown me into an epileptic episode...😮
Take the back seat out of the ugly truck
LT isn't serious about reaching his goals. Video just re hashing old content. Nothing new to see here.
He’s also a business owner/worker that has to take care of the business side of things. Just saying!
You might have seen him get an entire project done within 2 hours at motor trend but this isn’t the same show buddy 😂😂
