New Rock Boots Review - New Rock Boots are an iconic boot for groups from punk to goth to bikers but are they any good? They come with a heavy price and a heavy sole so i bought a pair and cut them in half to see what's inside and how they are built.

Very weird request but if you arent doing anything with the metal attachments from the sole is there any chance I could buy them off you? I need replacements for one of my pairs!
I was thinking the exact same thing. lol

Do they sell replacements?

They have dark soles.

Have a few pairs of new rocks and they are incredibly comfy! Never had any issues with the quality but i would recommend only buying them in the sale. New rock has sales pretty often and I’ve bought a pair 70% off.
@@ObesePuppies goths are the evolved form of the human race
Simone has me sold on these boots❤
I had just ordered two pairs before watching this , a 70% off and a 50% off , which together qualified for free shipping ....... ($202 for both)
At the start of Spain's first lockdown they did a site wide 15% off , which whoever ran their website applied to the original price and not the reduced price , meaning the stuff in the outlet section was 85% off
I assumed at that price it must be rubbish , but they realized their mistake days later apparently it was just a slip up , still kicking myself that i didn't buy everyone's Christmas presents (i have weird kids they would have been happy)
One pair from their outlet i bought earlier in the year had a fault , they sent a courier to pick the defective boots up and refunded their cost after they had inspected them.
Wasn't expecting great service given the price i had paid , but they were great and would be even easier to deal with for a Spanish speaker !
@@Angryegg387 That's why cynics believe there is no hope for humanity.

There’s an entire world of goth/ industrial boots out there; it’d be awesome to see you review them, actually, since as you can see, they get pricy FAST. I know fluevogs have already been requested, but I’m sure I’m not the only person who’d be happy to give you a longer list of spooky brands to review. (I imagine these are primarily made for clubbing and general wear, so it’s also interesting to consider what would be “good” construction there-do you want a shank in shoes used for dancing? I know some styles of professional dance shoes don’t have shanks, so maybe that’s a consideration? What kind of sole is good for the abuse the shoes take, especially when it comes to the ability to fix them, either DIY or paying for it? Etc etc etc. )
Sign me up! There are WAAAAAAY too many posts online praising absolute garbage boots. I try to warn the baby bats, "Do NOT waste your money on those! You will be in the club, pulling cobwebs one minute, and the next you find yourself 6" shorter."
I'd LOVE a breakdown by him of some more of the alt boots. I'm certain it will just prove what I've been saying all these years, but it would be nice to have the proof to back it up. :)
@@scarymsmary pls give me a list bc I'm very lost and don't want to keep wasting money on bad quality boots that will last a year at most.
I've always stated this and told them to get older black military boots and modify them for comfort for floor use. Never judge a boot by its outters for sure. The flashy ones always seem to be compensating for something.
@@scarymsmary I would also love to know your recommendations 🖤

I'd love to see how a pair from the 90s were made. Mine were indestructible I wore them all the time but they were so much heavier than the ones you get now.
Yeah same...I had this pair in about 1998...I wore them for 10 years and nothing wore out!
Mine are from 17 years ago, and still in pretty good shape appart from some deep wrinkles in the leather from use
I bought a pair a year ago and they look brand new...they are really good
That’s true. The ones I got 28 years ago are still very good now. They were 5kg per boot.
I went to highschool with a girl who wore these kinds of boots. Very goth, all the dark shit. She sang opera, it was really cool.
holy shit!! 🤣
oh props to her, platform boots hurt as hell after a while of wearing them, just got home took mine off, feels nice

@@Pantystealer Kouki S14, you uncultured buster.
To finally see my request come true was amazing. Thank you so much.
I have to say I am hugely disappointed to see that the sole was glued on but otherwise everything else looked awesome. I had the exact same pair when I was 16 and finally threw them out when I was 31. They were my going out boots, work boots (I was a mechanic), walking boots, they were my everything boot for 15 years and never did the sole split or come away. Again, thanks for letting me see inside these boots. Top job, keep up the good work.
P.S. New Rock Boots!!! XD
The reason your old ones lasted was because of the same reason mine did.....the soles were full rubber and not this "air pockets" crap and they were probably Spanish made (apparently New Rock has been making these in China since the mid 2010's)
@@richardcostello2951 huh that’s weird I’ve only recently got my boots and they say made in Spain
@@richardcostello2951 i didn't double check their website so i could be wrong but i'm pretty sure that they are like Docs (& a ton of other places tbh) in that the cheap stuff is fully Chinese made, midprice stuff is partially Chinese made/assembled & the top price is made where the company was known for making their stuff.
@@richardcostello2951 It literally says Made in Spain on them in the video
So glad to see you finally did some New Rock boots! The entire spooky community thanks you!
I have had new rocks for years, as well as other brands of extreme platform and 'goth' boots, and the number one problem is the soles coming away from the shoe. This occurs most often on cheaply made, synthetic boots which are only ever glued onto the sole, but i have never had that problem with New Rocks. I'm disappointed to see the hollow sole and the gluing on this pair, but i have to say i have had New Rocks that have lasted 10+ years with basically constant everyday wear, and I've only stopped wearing them because I get gifted another pair by my amazing mum!
There's this whole library of knowledge, certainly in the goth community, where we all know the best extreme shoes and what brands to buy and which to avoid, and New Rocks have always been well received by everyone I've come across. They are kind of like your modern goth boot bread and butter i suppose! I know people who have had New Rocks for 20+ years and still going strong, and although they don't offer this anymore sadly, the company used to offer lifetime guarantees on all their boots so if they broke or you lost a bit of hardware they would replace free of charge which was great. Not to mention a big sign of confidence in the boots.
I'd be curious to see you cut apart some other spooky brands of boots, especially Demonia boots, Buffalo boots, maybe some amazing old Swear boots (though I will cry when you cut them up because they are so rare now!) and I'm very curious to see what kind of flimsy cardboard those Killstar ones are made of lol! Demonias come in some incredible and outlandish styles - even more so than New Rock - but they are all synthetic and do not last nearly as long. However I must say from experience they hold up pretty well in the sole-peeling-off department which is great, and they don't cost the earth either so I suppose its an even trade.
Either way, love your videos- they are so satisfying! And I would love to see you cut apart a bunch of stuff on the stranger side of things.
Can you share what brands to buy and which ones to avoid? I’m very new at this and am a bit overwhelmed with all the options
Please please please do a video cutting open rick Owens geobaskets. You would make the entire fashion community so mad. Plus I would love to see what is inside my pair without having to cut them in half myself
I've got a pair of the womens equivilent of this style that are 15 years old, were worn almost daily for 5 of those years and have survived countless nights out and rowdy rock gigs and mosh pits. I have also got a more recent pair in a more standard style that have done thousands of miles with me on my motorcycle and apart from some fading of the colour, are still going strong.
However, when I went to the New Rock store earlier this year, I was saddened that the quality of the boots no longer matches what it used to be, just trying them on in the store you could tell the materials were not as good as the older models and the construction was flimsier. If i wasn't so attached to my pair I'd send them to you for a comparison of the older models, maybe you can pick up a pair on ebay though?
Chicks are easyer on boots
@@Katyperryspenis what? “ Easier”
@@Katyperryspenis ahh no...... like most things.....as time goes on the quality goes down.....my pairs from 10-15 years ago aren't anything like this garbage

@@Katyperryspenis um not this 'chick'...
Buy them used! If they are your style and you can deal with the heaviness they feel pretty solid and comfortable, they aren't worth the retail price but at least here in Europe you can get decent condition pairs starting at the equivalent of 80$ or so, and for about 100-150$ you can get them in basically new condition :)
Exactly. I’m in Texas and I’ve had 4 pairs. I’ve never paid over $150 for a pair ever.
Idk even at 150 that seems like a ripoff. Sneakers are often better made than that.
@@grievuspwn4g3 oh no doubt. Buying things for what’s effectively a form of elaborate daily costume for some people undoubtedly marks up the price, but from a purely sensible perspective even 150 seems like a bad price to me.
@@HH60gPaveHawk ahhh that's because these are their modern made Chinese junk......the Spanish ones from 10 years ago are built like tanks
For 100$? I got them for 400$?! Welp
i have a pair of their boots (but without flamings). they're about 15 years old now and very comfortable. i definitely paid less than 200 euros for them back then.
250 EUR was regular price about 2004 when I got them for the first time...but it's easy to buy them like 50% off (or more) :)
I had a pair, no flames but much taller almost knee high about 20 years ago and paid £100. I loved them and used to wear them on my bike and to work.
I had a pair of the short non goth boots they were very comfortable but the soles did end up splitting across where the ball of the foot exactly where all my other shoes split
Ive been looking at these boots ever since I was a child... I knew they were expensive, but daaammnn 400 dollars, for what though?:(
@@aprilmason1616 you can get them half the price on amazon or ebay, but still 200 is crazy
I've got probably 6 pairs of NewRocks. They changed with time quite a bit. My first pair is about 20yo (short ankle boots), still going strong though I abused them badly and a lot. Even the nubuck uppers held up nicely and the sole is still solidly on.
A newer pair of almost kneehigh boots has not been so good - had to reglue the sole twice already, but other then that - really comfortable. The rest I don't wear so often, so can't say anything about durability.
I've had similar experience. I have some that are almost 20 years old and are still more durable than some I've bought new in the last couple years.
I have had 4 pairs since the late 1990s. One pair I sold because I just never wore them. The other three I still have and have never had a single issue with any of them. I don’t remember the exact ages of them all but even the newest pair is at least 10 yrs old. I wonder if they used to be constructed differently and maybe they have cut corners over the years? Also, I’ve never paid above $150 for a pair either - even my Neptunos.
Cool video tho and I’m glad to see what’s inside the new ones.
I think the reason for having so many air pockets in the soles is so the boot can actually flex when you walk. Other platforms, like shitty Demonias, have no give, so you wear them like a month and the sole rips off. And those are selling for over $100 a pair themselves. THAT is insanity.
As far as “goth boots” go, I own One or more pairs of Terry de Havilland, original Transmuters, 2nd gen Transmuters, Magic Shoe Co, Pennangalan, and New Rocks - in addition to all my Docs. :)
And which ones are the best quality in your opinion?
@@haneul4164 The Terry de Havilland’s for sure. Designed, cut, and assembled by him and his wife Liz. Are they in the best shape of my collection? No. But they are the oldest as well. There are a few UA-cam videos about him you might check out. His story is bittersweet. These are the boots I coveted as a teen, so to have some now makes me so happy!
damn you know your stuff. i have read quite a few reviews on new rock shoes complaining that new rock has really cut down on the quality of their shoes in recent years, including downgrading to a lower quality leather and not screwing on the sole anymore. its a real shame, because if they did still have the same level of quality as a few years ago, it would totally justify their prices now.
its a shame we dont have pennangalan/magic shoes/fantasy shoes and havilland around anymore, the quality of shoes has plummeted recently and i honestly have no idea where you could even buy high quality tall platforms anymore. also rip to demonia for massively ripping off loads of pennangalan's designs :/
i have had my new rocks for more than21 years and they look great the sole has not fall on off
Would you say that new rock Is better than demonia? because I cannot make a choice.
@@localgrassfieldboneshandler new rocks because my demonia shoes were good but did not last as long as my newrocks
Your face caught me off guard 😂😂
"Stomp on things until the sole comes off." That's why I buy boots.
This was painful to watch, but the $410 hit to find out how they're constructed is appreciated. For what it's worth, the lack of shank was never an issue for me, the boots are very rigid, but super comfy. I never had a single complaint and they last for years. The sole definitely wears on the heel though.
These in the video are not worth $410. The highest they go for is £200 and I'm guessing that's less than $250.
The knee highs on the other hand cost me about £450 a pair because they are custom made, straight from the manufacturer and have added costs like import tax and so on.
I had a pair of these when I was around 15, I loved them!! But the soles split after like 3 months!! Over priced but I got a lot of attention. I even wore them to Dubai!
Damn son! That is lit lol.
3 months!? Damn, thnx for sharing that, not buying these cool boots no mo😅
I feel like these are an absolute nightmare for the airport security inspectors...
are you sure they weren't demonias?

Never cut a thicker sole before? Next one on the list: ganguro girl boots soles, can't wait!
It would be interesting to see a series on steel toe boots. You might need a metal cutting blade on your band saw but it would be very interesting to see the differences.
my "Steel" brand steel boots had been with me nearly 2 decades through everything, i was wondering about the same. made in Slovakia in some old Bata factory
@@shurdi3 For sure, I think mine started looking really good by year 5 or so, when the coating wore off a little.
The Steel headquarters are now in Veľký Krtíš. I've no idea where their factory is, but they do say it's also in Slovakia, in and former Bata factory (parts of it used by other brands afaik, doing totally different style shoes). Next time I'm nearby, I think I'll drop by and check it out.
(I do now have a shoemaker in Hungary I frequent, so full disclosure: I won't buy any more boots from Steel. But like... also won't buy because that one I bought is still good anyway.)
But yeah, the coating is questionable. 😂
Costume boots, inside and out. A good chunk of the price might relate to the fact that these won’t be volume sellers
I think I’ve seen these multiple times around NYC, but then again I was around St Marks a lot, which is one of the places on earth this wouldn’t look insane in
I doubt anyone would spend 300 dollars on a pair of boots JUST to wear it for a costume 😂 I hear that these last for decades of casual use.
@@user89076 What proportion do you think are buying them for construction or forestry or hiking?
@@hrtlsbstrd A pair of boots doesn't have to be worn for construction or hiking in order to be everyday boots. A large percentage of buyers probably wear them for clubbing, concerts, biking, shopping, outdoor festivals, etc.
@@user89076 For sure. What I'm getting at is that these boots are based on a design that evokes tough sturdy boots built to stand up to tough conditions - but in fact they're likely to quickly come apart under these conditions given the cemented construction.
Kind of like how costume jewelry is made to evoke the look of expensive jewelry, but is in fact cheaply made
That's not to judge, I can see how a person might buy these to compliment a look, but I think there's some logic to the parallel I'm drawing. And it would be nice if they went the extra foot and did a couple simple things to make them more durable to match the look.
I've had mine since 2002. I wore them almost daily for over 15 years of that time (they have servived a lot of mud, moshing and madness). They are still holding strong. I am currently waiting for new soles to be shipped to the UK and hope to keep wearing them for meny years to come. I am also buying the bronze steam punk boots for my birthday. You can't go wrong. Love New Rocks
Yaaasssss. Disappointing with the quality, but I'm glad to see an expansion out of mens work boots. I'm not sure if they were this brand, but a friend of mine had similar boots, and while they lasted a fair time, when they went it was the sole that gave out.
Would love seeing more varied styles on here still. Cheap to moderate priced knee highs and such.
I've had a pair of their chunky sneakers for some 23 years now, that I bought for going to rock shows. Very comfy. I wasn't intending to buy $250 sneakers but they weren't marked at the store I got them from in Hollywood and I wasn't going to lose face with the cute sales girl that sold them to me. I've really enjoyed them.
I've had a few pairs of newrocks, and I will tell you, they are the most well constructed boots I've ever owned. I have friends who have newrocks that are 10 years old and they're still in amazing condition, even after partying in them for 10 hours a night every weekend for 10~ years. The method may not be conventional but they really are amazing.
i would also like to add, that there are no better quality goth boots that exist. the only other brands that exist are Demonia, which is by pleaser USA are all knock offs of newrock and other brands, Swear Alt, Transformers, Buffalo, which all dont make alt shoes anymore if they even still exist, and then theres like combat boots made by a bunch of companies, but not really cool stompy boots. theres literally no better stompy goth boot to be had.
My brother had these back in 2001, we used to call him the terminator every time he wore those boots 😂
This was a dope video! Requesting that you cut in half some Michael Kors boots/shoes, or some other middle high end brands, would be very interesting to see if its even remotely worth paying 300$-500$ for designer boots/shoes.
I’ve got my first pair for 28 years. Wearing them almost everyday. The sole, the leather and everything else stayed sturdy. I’ve given them away last year because the style is not me anymore. It were almost the same as the ones you showed only without the flames and the the boots ended higher. I’ve heard the quality of new rock was far better at the time I bought those boots. I’ve gotten myself 3 more pairs of new rock and they are still going strong.
These are the best goth boots I ever owned. I had them for about 8 years and they are still like new with weekend heavy use. I always hear from many friends that they have lasted them 10 years. I have never ever heard of any that the sole has come off with those boots.
I'm a bit of a goth and studying to be a shoemaker myself, and I've been walking daily on new rocks for over a now (M.373-S2). Out of all goth shoes, New Rocks are the best for sure.... But that doesn't mean they are all great compared to more regular shoe brands...
Hey have you had any issue with the zipper. I'm looking forward to buy my first pair of New Rock and the one I like as one. I heard from a lot of people that zippers on boots tend to break easily🥲
I had a black pair with purple accents. Definitely were just about looks...although I bought them because they did look like they were well made. This channel has taught me so much about actual real quality boots and what to look for.
Woah, I bought a pair of these when I was 18 or so in Camden - ended up bringing them with me to the US when I emigrated and likely still have them, somewhere.
In terms for the Goth style plus longevity, these are the best for Goths.
A lot of us are not necessarily looking for the most bulletproof, weatherproof or high quality boot/shoe to fit our creativity and expressions, just enough to where it looks cool to our eyes, is comfortable or not uncomfortable, but also isn't a dirt cheap quality of a shoe, and last long enough to fit into our daily lives which New Rock has done so far for all the Goths and just about anyone else who enjoys the style and longevity of New Rock unlike some other brands. (Looking at you Demonia.)
Edit: Thank you very much for this video review on New Rock.
More goth boots videos please! I've never had New Rocks myself - too "metal-looking" for me - but I've had Demonias. This is fascinating stuff! Did you ever end up doing the women's vs men's boots video you mentioned on a video about Docs? I'd love to see that, but can't find it in your videos yet; I hope you still do it!
End of 2022 and still no women's vs. men's boots video. :(
Stop shitting on metal.
I've had a similar pair of these before and they are super comfy to walk in with an that rubber under you. Honestly the only thing that went wrong was the metal on the heel is prone to snapping. I think the rubber sole expands as you set your foot down because its quite soft and can pull the metal apart.
Thank you for finally doing these! I'm so hyped

I have had many of these boots, including the model you ripped apart in the review which were my favourite and longest lasting pair. They are more for image than practicality (but it can be quite handy having so much heft on your feet if you find yourself in certain situations, like concerts, festivals or "self defence"). Still, great boots and surprisingly comfortable, if you get a good fit. Some of the wear issues I had were the metal attachments breaking both at the front and the heel due to impact with various things, the flame stitching coming loose and even the heal counter coming loose on one pair. I also had the the sole split on another pair which rendered the boot almost unusable as the toe section would flop about, but being a cheap Goth living in London I continued to wear the boot for several months until I could afford an upgrade.
I’ve had a pair of New Rocks since 1999. I used to walk 6miles to work, stand up & walk around all day in them (retail) & walk 6 miles home in them. Never had a moment of pain in them and they kept my feet so warm in winter. When I was walking so much in them, they were the best butt & leg exercise ever!
My mum has been trying to get them off me for 2 decades so she can put flowers in them, but no luck there yet.

I am waiting for redwing to tap into the goth market. These consumers may finally be provided with quality construction that can withstand all of the dancing, sweat, and other activities.
On another note, the face paint reminds me of Ghost.
That would be AWESOME actually. We wear boots nearly every day, all day, and sometimes all night too. We really put our boots to task just dancing at the club! I know I am willing to pay a high price point to get a boot that can withstand the oontz oontz for many years! ;)
So, I appreciate you taking the boots apart like that but I have to say that these are the best boots I've ever owned. I got my first pair used and wore them for over a decade basically every day. Motorcycle, camping, hiking, all the things they weren't designed for lol
For reference, mine had Velcro straps, before the zipper option was available.
I ended up giving them to a friend's son when he was a punk rock teen before I moved to Japan 8 years ago... And bought a new pair over here and still wearing them.
Two pairs of boots for almost 20 years. Still hiking, motorcycling and being dumb but the boots just don't die.
So, at least in my opinion, they're the best boots out there if you want both reliable and cool looking. :)
Holy crap, you actually cut open New Rocks, this is amazing.
I used to have a pair just like this in the mid-2000s. They were sooooo comfy. And surprisingly durable. Loved them. Only problem was the iron fittings on the sole at the front and back which broke every so often (easy enough to replace but still).
I had another pair from them which were more military-looking and they were garbage, broke really quickly.
I wore those in high school, glad to see they are still selling after uhh 15 years.
I REALLY wanted to hear "so I wore these at my shop for a month" for some reason.
Always a good day when a new video comes out. :)
I've had many pairs of New Rocks, which each lasted years before needing replacing, and despite numerous concerts/festivals, every terrain and environment/weather that was thrown at them, they all held up amazingly.
It's nice to see they've changed one thing.
The metal embellishments used to be attached by rods which fed into the rubber, and after a few years, one of the rods was bound to fail/shear and you'd have to remove that bit of metal.
Replacing the rods with screws seems a no-brainer for anyone who's had this issue in the past.
Also, I've always found NR's to be super comfortable, and you feel like you can take on the world when wearing them!
The opening Ad was Dr, Martins, LOL
This is starting to turn into a great insidejoke 😂
@Marc Carran As I said, it's an inside joke😀
But seriously though the thing is that rose anvil has said in several videos he does'nt really like dr martens sence they have gone down the route of cutting quality but keeping the same price so you basicly just get the brand. This means a dr marten ad is not going to be very succesfull on this channel sence ppl here knows you can get a much higher quality boot for the same money if you buy another brand.
And of course the irony of him roasting the dr martens and then his videos gets ads that go "buy dr martens, they be good for ya"
Obviuosly he can't shoes which ads are shown on the video, but you know: Irony
@Marc Carran the joke has nothing to do with ad tracking, it’s about how it’s ironic that there’s a Dr Marten’s boot ad for a video on a channel that is pretty heavily anti Docs. And it is an inside joke because people who haven’t watched many of Wes’s videos won’t get it, therefore it’s an inside joke.
Wow! i love the scary make up! And the boots looking smokin'! Wasn't expecting Halloween special - it's a very cool surprise
I have three pairs ranging in age one since high school so nearly 13 years old. They all are showing no signs of wearing out anytime soon. Very comfortable and can be worn all day. And if you wanted to get noticed you certainly will. I don’t think I will have the need to buy anymore.
I've had mine (same design) for 20 years, worn everyday for about 7 of those years. First to go was the zipper, then the flames started coming off. No problems with the sole
The only boots i've been wearing for 5 years now. I have a few pairs and never had any problems with New Rocks! :) 🤘🏻
I have had a pair of these boots for around 17-18 years, they used to be worn almost every day, now only in the colder weather... Never had any problems with them, good soft leather inside, firm support on the ankles. In the uk I paid £120 for them when I got them.

New rocks actually are pretty cool boots none like them
I'd love to see you do a series of US military issued boots, from Vietnam war Jungle boots, to cold war "Cadillacs", up to present day Danner/Bates/Under Armor etc.
I have a pair of New Rook boots. They’ve served me well for quite some years now! The only thing that came off were the heels and I had to put another leather sole on the inside, but other than that they’re fine and I wear them a lot! Mainly in spring, fall and winter. The missing shank never gave me problems and the soles never came off. They’re also very comfortable to wear. Plus, the soles are made of the most wear resistant material ever. I still have the same soles and even the heels look more or less almost like new.
When did u buy them? What model?
@snek it's the M 373-S1 boot in black that has the shoelace run through the heel. I bought them in 2015 and I'm still wearing them.
I currently wear a pair of newrocks as my everyday boot and I gotta say I'm not too worried even if the sole shoes come off cus that's what glue is for and if the sole dies then the newrocks website has all the parts needed to repair the boots
Lmao!! Anti-water planing tread design? Like Goodyear Aquatread tires from the 90’s? Unless a goth kid can run 60 mph in the rain, I think the tread design is a little out of touch...
😂😂
😂 I assumed it was for grip on slippery dance floors. Concrete + spilled vodka == not fun.
For a goth you're either fast or you've got no lunch money
@@skachor Yeah, nah. Where I live everyone is scared and thinks everyone who is goth is a devil worshipper. They stay far away
Considering alternative fashion relates heavily to DIY and "out of season" elements, I'd say the tread design is pretty perfect for the intended audience they're marketed towards.
This is the funniest episode, by far. Was not expecting it, bravo. XD
Do more of these type of boots!
Since you said you had something interesting planned for Halloween.. I actually kind of expected something like this... I don’t know how or why, I just did
The quality was a lot better but things have changed.
Would be cool (and awful) to see him cut a Vintage pair.
Next we need to do some boots by demonica. They're the cheaper offering for the goth community. Curious to see if those are built any better.
Just one thing...... they don’t cost 410 dollars
They are about 180!!
I want to see your rip open a pair of those massive platform Fila's, or similar.
Fila disruptor, right?
@@abr4xas yes
Ahh I'm so happy you were able to get these! I have this actual pair and haven't broken them yet, the weight took some getting used to but stomping around in them is too much fun!
The leather, because it's so thick, was tough on my ankles to break in but when they're fully worn, they're great to wear. Wore them to work too, but had to stop since I found out they're no good on ladders.
I'm so surprised at just how little is in them, always assumed they'd be solid rubber, because it certainly feels it.
Have mine for about 5 years now. Love em!
Luckily I didn't pay $400 for them, but I did pay £140, so yeah...
Thanks for doing this video, and your makeup looks awesome! What did Toaster think of it? :D
I bought a pair just like this in 2003 (all black) and I still have them today. I wore them every day for years and they are still in perfect condition except the sole has a bit of wear and I had to get a cobbler to repair some wear on the inner liner. I had heard that they were made differently these days so I'm not sure if mine as just like these ones or not, they definitely look exactly the same. The interesting thing about this company is that they sell all the individual pieces of the shoes so you can just get a new sole or metal emblem a la carte.
Legend has it he dropped his cutting tool on the floor one, and a new fault line was added to the earths crust.
Really cheap shoes! Hey Weston, maybe u should do a video on Corcoran boots. They've been around for a long time, especially their jump boots.
Yeah thats a good idea. Why not contimue ut with some Rocky and bates. How about a series like the mock toe but with jump boots
Bates won’t take long. It’s basically this minus the jewelry.
How about no...... Corcoran's are literally the worst made jumpboots.....the quality control is subpar
The finish to the leather is arcylic paint
The fitting around the instep is off
The width sizing is all over the place from batch to batch
The metal eyelets tend to either crack or bend.....which leads them to falling out
Literally a boot company that knew how to make a decent boot that got greedy and cut corners for profit and ended up going to utter shit
@@richardcostello2951 dude, I'm just curious what the hell is inside the damn shoe!
@@richardcostello2951 arrrgh you reminded me of those things jump boots, more like parade boots. Especially the pokey nails under the footbed. My feet still hurt a decades later whenever im reminded.
I just bought a pair of Viberg Service Boot...
I don't want to ask you to cut them in half... But maybe you should cut them in half!!!
Yeah definitely it would be nice to see a pair of Vibergs cut in half.
@@Putzq it would sadden ppl a little... Then make them happy hahah
Send em
@@alexanderdavidson7837 those are my dream plain toes- definitely would be sad-happy to see them hit the saw
@@vackrakristaller I want to see it so bad... I cringed when I saw the RMs and the Redwings go under the knife... But so the sake of science... I think it should be done
i bought a pair in 2004. wore them every day and walked with them and the sole never came out for 14 years. best boot i ever had
This was pretty eye openeing, a complete revelation. New Rock have a good reputation so it's great to see what really goes on inside.
They seem to last though. Pairs 20 - 30 years old are not uncommon The sole rarely comes unglued. Because they are a niche object, they might not have been worn everyday, so getting 20 - 30 years out them may be explained.
However, they can be worn every day, if it's your style and thing. I've seen pairs with severe wear and use which is a more illuminating test to lasting power.
Here is what I've seen. The soles do not come unglued as a rule. They can wear down to the air chambers and into the metal toe and heel plates. Occasionally, the soles will split where they bend. This is unusual, but happens. I suppose they could be resoled with another sole.
The metal plates are brittle metal (zinc based?) and come in various sizes per sole size. It's not unusual for them to snap. Sometimes they are badly riveted with air gaps. They used to be riveted but self tapping countersunk screws are being used now, which is nice. The front plates are also hand-er footed for right and left. $20 seems right as I've seen them at £18 in the UK. Per plate (scary!).
I think the internal lining is pigskin- I think I read that in their blurb. The inside heel lining always fails, without er fail, becoming worn, torn, ripped and compressed. Originally the whole leg lining was one piece which included the heel. Latterly the heel lining became a separate piece of suede. Maybe this was for making it easier to replace.
A good indicator of use is the state of the heel lining. It's always the first to go, and a very common failing.
The leather of the boot lasts well. It creases but in my experience it's still good after many years.
The insole wears.
Zips sometimes fail. It's unusual and quite rare. To use them, the idea is that you set the straps, which are on elastic, to your leg, zip up, do up the laces and you simply only need to use the zip from then on.
You having your face painted and doing the review completely normal reminds me of Ben from parks and rec when he's casually wearing a full batman suit
laces going thru the heel is a stapel of a lot of designer boots, like 2000$ price
Here I am due to the UA-cam algorithm watching a man cut a pair of 6 pound boots in half. I can’t wait!!
Felt compelled to say I bought a pair of New Rocks (taller and heavier than these) in 1999 and wore them for 8ish years basically every weekend to shows, trips to the city, stomped around Philly and New York. They were a mix of black matte looking leather and shiny black patent leather. They are still in great shape though my style has changed and I only wear them a couple times a year now. The toes and inner heels are scuffed but to be expected. I wore the hell out of those boots The patent leather still looks perfect. Only problem is mine had a thin metal accent that wrapped around the sides and underneath of the heel that was made of one solid piece of thin metal. Those broke early on and I removed it. But you couldn’t tell anything was missing. Loved the look and was WAY MORE comfortable than the Doc Martens everyone gets hung up on. Think I paid close to $300 back in the day. They were worth it for a unique boot than never failed to get looks and compliments.
"In true Goth style, let's saw one apart while we are still wearing them to see how they actually fit."
Next: whats inside a human foot?
I have 2 pairs of boots from this company (bought on ultra sale) They are sooo comfortable, and except for having the zippers replaced they have held up amazingly well. I got them a few decades ago tho so there's a chance they've gotten more cheaply constructed .
These are the only boots I don't destroy in a month flat. Had the ones I wear every day for 3 years now & they're still going strong. My last pair was 15 years old & I definitely wore them down to the voids, the metal plates do a great job of extending the life of the sole.
I would never buy a pair of boots with zips again though, takes a lot of scrolling through the site to find a pair without zips.
In the metal head community, we had a term for the guys who would wear these boots. If I’m not mistaken, that term was “poser”. You did the world a service by cutting these in half. 🤘
$410? In the UK you can pick these up for a third of that.
Right. I got some new rocks for $110 AUD, no clue where he got $410 from
I own two pair of these they are extremely comfortable and I have not had a problem of them falling apart I’ve had one pair since 2006 and I work at a Harley store and I’m not gentle on them
.....ive had my new rocks since i was 16, im now 22 and apart from some scuffing they are 100% perfect
I’d love to see a review of the vegan collection of new rocks as it seems different to a lot of vegan leathers as well as the good year welt collection!
"Hole in the sole" is a statement in hi-end Dirk Bikkembergs boots. Not sure if he "Invented it" but it is quite famous design.
I bought a pair of these in the 90s. Still have them in a box somewhere. I broke the cheap metal front brackets by kicking things. Loved the attention they got though.
Got two pairs over the years (one for 160€ the second one for around 200, knee height) . Really really comfy and the weight doesn´t bother me at all, since the boots aren´t made for marching or hiking. The pros are definetly the looks (if you are into it), and the leather isn´t bad quality at all. The cons are the Zippers. if they break you´ll have to get creative. I´ve sewn my zippers together. Now it´s a little bit annoying to get into the boots but they are still wearable. The metal fittings broke over the time but got replaced with original hardware i´ve got for free at my shop where i bought the boots and later got replaced with some metal parts i had laying around. My first pair died as the sole broke... after 5 years or so. the second pair is still around after 10 years of clubbing, dancing and some festivals and i think i´ll take them to the WGT this year.
The sole never came off.
