This video got saved. When i get my gs out of the garage this is the first thing i am doing. My poor starter hangs a bit and in combination with a bad battery it’s totally not healthy.
Good job Dan. The 1150's need a good battery as well. I found out the hard way that a less than optimum battery will kill your starter motor. I replaced mine with an after market one.
Cheers Dino. Yes indeed, a lot of this bmw is similar to a car. Has a full size alternator driven by a belt. Dry clutch with separate transmission. Quite cool for a bike in my opinion
Hi Dan, hope you're keeping well and the NZ winter hasn't been too hard on you. Helpful video and I like how they've put a sturdy cover over the starter assembly. Still a mighty impressive bike. You thinking of trying a 1300? Out soon. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe and keep up the good work. 👍✌
Doing good thanks, how are you? Nz winter has been good this year starting to warm up now. The 1300 would be a great bike, I haven't ridden any gs newer than the 1150 I am afraid I would like them to much and trade in😂
Thanks for watching! Wouldn't be a very common bike in Japan? I haven't removed the whole cowling. Removed some of the components in this video ua-cam.com/video/iDvqTU78c70/v-deo.html What are you trying to do?
@@Toranosuke0011 Right i get you. I am not sure sorry i haven't removed mine. I would guess there would be some bolts underneath and then unplug the indicators and it may come out?
Y 03 R1150R was making excessive noise so I was going to take the starter off but when I went to loosen the bolts, they were already loose so I tightened them over 1 full turn and tried it and it was ok. I had just bought the bike and I think the guy had been “working” on it.
Thanks for the video! I’m UA-cam University my new 01. It’s been doing the same thing! Now I can fix it with blowing up my battery lmfao Now to go watch the battery video…
for all others out there. all other R englines are basically the same. I just did this on my r1150r, and works like a charm. thanks

@@MOTODANS Thanks for response! I saw your video but that was wind sealed! How do you say that.....yellow big front fender?

Now it’s working great! 👍🏻

Thanks for video👍
Hi Dan. What did you use to clean it?
I just used kerosene on a brush. Brake cleaner would probably be better though
Simple fix, well done. *T4S*
Thanks 👍

Wow, be worth giving checking all the important bolts of the bike to make sure they are ok
