There's nothing quite like the sense of relief hitting the starter button and hearing the engine light off instead of expensive mechanical crunching sounds.
@@SidekickSolo I bet. But they are built from old WW2 Panzers. My 90k miles 1150 i kept for 14 years , and I'm not exaggerating, Looked like new when I sold it on. No corrosion, nothing. The engine didn't use any oil, the final drive oil and gearbox were as golden coming as going in. One headlight bulb and that was it. Brilliant bikes. Higher quality then the later versions. i've subscribed now, looking forward to your future instalments.
thank you I have a 2003 , and ive had some fun , with pinging , so no cheep gas , and the pinging ( actually crazy knocking that was crazy loud ) . The gear shift indicator went out during the rainy season , slowly came back over a 3 week period after the rainy season changes , the ignition wires ( single spark ) turned rock hard and I lost all semblance of timing , and power and any syncing between the two throttle bodies , replacing those made so much of a difference , of course taking the fuel tank off , and the jostling about , and putting the tank back on , probably helped on that but now the fuel pump sounds like a jet engine and the sound that happens when the kill switch is turned to start position , the buzz of the fuel pump priming is now a much higher pitch , like the pump may have shifted a bit and iam getting a resonance because of that so that woo-ping happy sound that you were doing as you were riding that bike and it was riding fantastically, ! I can wholeheartedly relate too 🤪, your video is great
Well done! I do all my own work on my bikes, and there is no better feeling than when theres been a problem, I've worked it out, fixed it up and... that first press on the starter when it fires up, and that first test-run when it bloody works :) Can't be beat!
It may give you a lot of struggle, but after all that, It's all worth it. the memory that you would cherish after all this pain will stay there forever. Look at that, you have done all that by yourself, well done indeed.

For a smoother Throttle balance measurement. Take some wood and get a looong piece of see through pipe ( I used aquarium air pipe) put some 2 stroke oil in it. and nail to to a plank ,making sure both ends are same length. The 2 stroke oil is thick and the Pipe is soft so it slows the response down nicely. Google for throttle body sync tool and note the pictures of planks.
Great to see you doing some videos on your own buddy and good to hear you will still be teaming up with Alan too. Hope to see more GS videos in the future along with the CBR600 based special too! Subscribed.
Thank you. As it goes Alan is coming round tomorrow to do a recording for his podcast and this will be done while I’m recording some more repairs on the GS.
Take thepipe off the bottom of the vac gauges and look up into the spigot. If theres a screw you can adjust them to dampen the needle movement. If not then the previous tube /oil/ plank method would work. Does sound sweet tho!!Good on ya!!
Hello from Texas. Great Job on fixing the Ol Girl back up. She looks Great, Sounds Great, and Runs Great. You’re really going to enjoy Her. I ride a 2006 R1200GS and Love every Second I’m on it. I think they are the best Bikes ever made, and I have Rode just about everything in my 50 Years of Riding. It’s do anything Bike. I hope you get many many happy Miles out of her. One thing about the Boxer Engines, is their Longevity. As long as you keep up the Maintenance and take care of her. They will last almost forever. I’m really enjoying your Videos.👍👍❤️
Thank you very much for you kind words. I really do love the bike and I think we will have some good adventures together. She just needs to be brought up to date with the maintenance.
I just subscribed. May I request you not to speed-up parts of the video, as it causes some dizziness. For myself, I just want to “ride” with you and thats best when its on regular speed. Thank you.
Thanks for the sub. My mistake when doing something in the edit and it ended up being in 360p. I’m still new to editing but should be good after this one.
Well done mate, good repairs. Watch the fuel lines between the tank and the hard lines to the injectors…can leak there. Besides that - I own one of these down here in South Africa and ride several different countries on different surfaces, they are really rough dogs. As long as you do what’s required in terms of general maintenance she will put a big smile on your dial every time. She’s no racer, but that the point - sow have done over half a million k’s with nothing more than fluids and standard consumables.
Just supscribed. Found u on helmet heads channel. Its cool to see ur videos now too. Btw would u reccomend buying a new vespa gts 125, i know this is random like lol
I've always wanted to try something like this (buying a cheap bike and fixing it up), but I don't know if I could complete the process from start to finish. I've worked on bikes before (cosmetic and simple electrical work), but I know that I would find some of the harder jobs (valves, tappets, carburettor adjustment etc) difficult. Did you learn how to fix bikes yourself, or did you learn at college and now do it on a daily basis as your job?
I’m completely self taught. Started off repairing my own cars some time not very successfully but I learnt from my mistakes and believe me I have made a few. I would encourage you to give it a go with the use of UA-cam and Google you can always find a how to on most things. The more you do it and learn the more confident you will become. Just have faith in yourself and give it a go. I still surprise myself now on some of the things I repair. The feeling you get when you do find the fix to something is great.
One thing about the Boxer Engines, is that they are so easy to Work on yourself. Like he said, watch UA-cam Videos on how to do the Repairs and just follow what they do. There’s probably a Thousand Videos on how to Repair a GS.
Probably due to me making a mistake in upload or editing. They are filmed in 4k so I’m not sure what I’ve done wrong. Hopefully I will sort for next time.
Great video. Now it's working, we can actually see the bike. Beautiful And Monkey Yellow! Question. Did it come with MOT? If so , how, when in such poor repair?
Thank you. Yes it does have an mot but I am very doubtful that it had a proper inspection. With it having so many mot failing issues I can not believe that they have all happened since it was mot’ed.
I managed to buy a carbtune original one a few years ago its the mercury version bit old school now but works a treat. I have had a coupke of the hexhead r1200rt and not sure if its same setuo but i think you are supposed to balance them from rh cylinder only
Unfortunately it is 360. I’m new to editing and filming and something went wrong either in upload or editing. My apologies. Hopefully will be better in the next videos.
I'm glad it's working out for you! The 1150GS is a lovely, mellow yet very capable bike. I bought one here in Australia in 2003, sold it 8 or 9 years ago to buy a new R1200GSA but missed it so much I bought it back a couple of years ago. It's done 200,000kms and is in semi-retirement. I also bought two in the UK (at different times) for my wife and I to tour Europe on. (see ua-cam.com/video/-Eyjqy9x0Gg/v-deo.html&pp=ygUOMTE1MGdzIHRyaWJ1dGU%3D ). Look after them properly and they'll give you years and years of enjoyable use. Looking forward to following your adventures.
Thanks for watching folks. If you enjoyed please give me a thumbs up.
Now, that is a proper GS running! Chers, Mate! That bike is damm fantastic! Always loved boxeur BMW engines!

The child awakens! I'm so happy for you, and really rooting for you. Thank you for sharing!

Awesome, I'm chuffed you've decided to do your own channel. You're a top bloke and very inspiring.
Thank you. 😊
Great job mate, I saw one of these in Wales a couple of weeks ago with 218,000 miles on it
Let’s see if I can this one some where near that mileage.
Brilliant.
