Jeez I just built and priced out a King Ranch, even without the hybrid still got to $78k while missing a few options. That’s a $1250 monthly payment over 5 years with 20% down. So realistically if youre not making over $150k, you cannot afford one.

For what it’s worth- we just got a 2022 Expedition. Per company regs just certain trim levels are available because higher ones go to senior executives. Strangely, we can pick whatever options however. I am driving an $80k truck… an XLT (i.e. 2nd lowest trim grade).

@@Rommer2258 really depends on monthly payment, some people trade in trucks that are still worth $30-35k, so technically they’re only financing 25-30k which is under $600 a month. So realistically if youre making $100k, that’s a pretty comfortable car payment. Plenty of folks make that. Many people who use these trucks for business or work can write off much of the cost under section 179.

I hear a lot of people complaining about the cost of a new truck. Have you seen the price of used one's? I tend to keep my vehicles for 10+ years, so I ordered a new King Ranch and I'm happy with my choice.

  • @chuckcannon7114

I have an f150 on order and I opted for the work surface. We frequently take road trips and stop to eat along the way. The work surface will make it much easier to eat in the vehicle which is usually one of my most hated things to do. Also, due to the nature of my job I have to do a lot of writing of reports or evaluations. The work surface gives me the option to work effectively while I’m waiting for the kids to finish up practice or I am in between appointments.
I LOVE the King Ranch but I opted for a fully optioned Lariat instead. When I built them both with the same exact options and the King Ranch was still 5k more. I couldn’t bring myself to spend 5k more just because I like the entire and the thought of pretending to be a cowboy 😂

I own a 2021 F-150 Limited Powerboost and it stays in the shop (I just got it back after being out of commission for over month for the 2nd time) The problem is all of this great innovative tech makes these trucks less dependable. Blue Cruise appears lightyears behind GM's Super Cruise when watching Andre's latest Silverado High Country test drive. Blue Cruise, the truck meanders in the lane from side to side, doesn't take turns well, causing the driver to take the wheel and biases to the inside passenger-side of the lane, which Big Rigs are also bordering next to you. Absolutely terrifying at times. The infrared sensors also don't work at night to see your face and causes the system to shut off (It cannot see through glasses and prompts you to watch the road. I've tried lifting my glasses to my forehead and it tricks the system temporarily, but then I eventually have to remove my glasses and not too long after it doesn't detect that I am watching the road, glasses or not and shuts off after several prompts to watch the road) How Ford got the ok to release this system to the masses is beyond me. With that said, it's best vehicle I've ever driven when everything is working correctly. It glides downs the road with a sense of polish and sophistication that even the most luxurious cars in the world lack. The acceleration is unmatched by anything not named TRX. The 7.2 KW generator works better than advertised, as I powered an entire Hollywood level film crew and production off the back of my truck in the New Mexican Mountains. There's not another vehicle on the planet that can make that claim. I also use the work surface as we always work from the road. I will say the Wi-Fi in this truck does not work as well as GM's LTE 4G Wi-Fi and has problems connecting to certain devices, especially my wife's work computer. Sync 4 is a huge improvement over Sync 3, but even still most of the apps such as Glympse do not work. You cannot send navigation directions from your phone to your vehicle as advertised. GM's radios are so much better and remain light years ahead, feature for feature. That's my real world take. I drive this truck every day. It's quirks are enough to make me consider getting rid of it, but I really like the 7.2 Kw generator. I waited to pull the trigger on the new Sierra Denali Ultimate and it is now sold out. I am regretting that decision.

I doubt those days will ever come back. Manufacturers learned they can produce a lot less and make record profits. GM learned prior to the pandemic to sell more Sierras at a lower rebates and this overcomes the cost of Silverado market share. Ford just shills out just enough F-150's to make a substantial profit per unit. By producing less costs are low and because of higher per unit profit shareholders are extremely happy.

Vehicles are so complicated and complex that it cost an arm and a leg to get stuff fixed. With the way the world is now I swear auto manufacturers are taking advantage of it and have increased the MSRP a lot and some dealerships are marking them up throw the roof. Worth?? Depends. If you get it and flip it asap, then sure. You're likely to get the same money back, or more in some cases in the current truck market. But if this is a long term investment, you're likely to experience an extreme financial loss since the market does shift, the economy is certain to tumble, and supply chain issues won't always be where they are. I think who will be hurt the most are those who paid over MSRP, which still is unjustifiable for a mainstream vehicle.

I refuse to comply with these inflated prices because at its core, the reason why they are so high is the inability of companies like Ford to manage their supply chain adequately. Low inventory plus normal or higher demand results in increased pricing. Admittedly, some of it not their fault but straight canceling chip orders at the onset is their fault. The chip supply has exposed serious weaknesses in the just in time inventory model concept. This is why they still have fields filled with unfinished cars/trucks. These trucks are worth exactly what people are willing to pay for them, not a penny more or less. Since Ford sells every one they make, I would say yes that truck is worth $75k. No matter the brand, the pickup truck is the best selling vehicle in America. High prices accompany high demand.

Each to their own of course but I prefer the lower spec models. They tend to age well.
Seems a fairly even split between people who don’t see the value and those who do.
It’s a shame we can’t confirm if those buyers and potential buyers are genuine or just love the brand.
If you’ve got money to burn, good for you. But most of us don’t get to a position that we could afford such prices by paying overs in the first place.

Thank you young man. I bought a 2005 f-150 king ranch in 2005. It was $38,000 with $7200 off MSRP. Including tax title and license.
I bought another in 2014 paid $49,000 with $10,000 off MSRP end of year. Including 7-year 100,000 warranty.
I could afford those trucks. Yea my income has gone up but not 80% like the current truck. Basically you could count on getting at least $5k off MSRP on the past and if you waited for end of year you could get $8 to $10k off.
Progress min the past meant more features better for same and rice each year adjusted for inflation. That’s no longer the case. Truck prices are easily double the rate of income increases for most people. Robots were suppose to reduce costs. Fewer employees were suppose to reduce cost. The truth and s inflation is much much higher than income level increase.

I bought a 2022 F350 lariat diesel for almost the same price as a F150 lariat (no Mark up). Do I need a F350 no but for a few grand more the resale value will be well worth it.I get about 15 mpg city so not bad
