As i was taking it apart i almost had a heart attack when i saw that tiny little spring and even tinier little pin fall on my desk!!🤣 I could barley make out what the hell it was because my eyes are so bad! Thanks for the video bud! You saved me time and money!!
Of all the manuals that got misplaced. Trying to figure this out for two years now. Thanks for explaining the moisture issue. Might have been my oil placement too. Not too bright on my part. You've got me back on track. Thank You so much!
I’m not sure if this is the problem with mine my drag is OK but spool tension knob is not tightening or loosening And I’m having trouble finding videos referring to that issue only I’ll give this a try.
So I have a Shimano Curado DC ($250) and a Metanium DC ($550) and they BOTH have this issue where I can't even hold my lure up at full drag. The Metanium I used once and it started doing it. I have asked questions to multiple people about this and no one else has really had this same issue, but mine continues to disappoint.
If you're using BRAIDED lines, check if your problem is ghost drag slippage which I suspect. Use a marker to put a mark on the spool side and pull the line, check whether it's the line slipping from the spool or whether the spool is actually slipping. Braided line if not tied properly during the start of spooling always result in ghost drag, which seem like there's no drag to the naked eyes.
Good video thanks. Did you ever correct the problem with the drag? You mentioned purchasing new parts. Wonder if the actual drag nut (square) could have been boogered up .
If my reel is left-handed, when removing the handle nut, is it still " lefty loosey, righty tighty"? It is very tight in either direction and I don't want to force it the wrong way.
@@briannelson7591 I've not had a LH reel, but I would be surprised if they changed the threads for the retrieve variant. You could look up the part numbers for the nut or gear drive and compare the LH and RH part numbers for the same reel
Thank you for this man! Is this the same breakdown you would do for maintenance every few months or so? Yearly? Would you go further? I'm new to reel maintenance. Dope song at the end too.
I have a SLX DC as well but mine is not smooth. I get a light grinding sound when turning the handle knob. It sounds like the noise is coming from the worm shaft (Worm shaft is lubbed). Any suggestions how to fix this issue?
@@paullapato9447 I decided to take my reel apart and came to conclusion that the slight grinding noise could actually be from the drive gear. I took off the drive gear and noise is gone but the gear looks fine. I have not decided to replace the drive gear because I’m not 100% sure that will fix the issue.
@@Luke_01 It's the thick brake wheel (the one that is used to tighten the spool to the walls of the reel that causes this noise and prevents fluidity when it is too tight. You just need to loosen it a little.
It's been a while but I believe that pin only creates the clicking sound when you turn the star. Reel should function otherwise. You'll have to find the reel schematic online to get the part number if you'd like to try to source a replacement.
I have taken my SLX DC apart and replaced almost every single drag related part and I am still having issues with the drag slipping. Have you had the same experience or after replacing those drag parts was yours working correctly?

that's scary! Glad you got it sorted out 👍
Thanks man, I didn't know where to put that small spring back to either, but your video showed me.
Glad it helped!

I got a used slx and its not making the clicking noise when tightening the drag, great vid👍🏽👍🏽
Thank you, from Brussels ❤
I’m not smart enough to remember how to put it back together but awesome video. Neat to see how the reels actually work internally.
Awesome vid! I dropped the little spring on the floor and had to use a magnet to find it 😬. Thank you!
Glad you found it!

You can get Carbontex drag washers for the DC...

New drag washers and it's good to go 🤙
Fantastic instructional brotha !!
Thanks! Got it fixed

my drag isn’t working but I can reel, do you know what the problem is?

This would be annually for me 👍
@@goodmanfishing thank you!
Thx for sharing! That washer that pops off at 2:47 min - is that in the schematics? Always have a difficult time putting the reel nut on. Great vid!
Yes sir it is at around 14:46
Is this the same for a non DC SLX?
Pretty much the same on the handle side with the exception of a bearing instead of a bushing in a place or two.

I'm also having the same symptoms. I'm still in the process of trying to figure it out. Please keep us posted if you find a fix.

I need help what happens if you lose the pin on the drag star

It's been working well here. Just a little bit of grease in the drag system seems to be the deal
Could be the anti reverse bearing. It was my issue.
@@fusionstar916 how did you fix it?
I lost the drag ball and spring 😔
So my slx dc reel is deciding to go backwards and idk what to do someone tell me what to do plz
You likely need to order an anti-reverse bearing and swap it out.
No carbon drag washers? OMG... 2 carbon fiber washers only cost about $0.25 for Shimano...
This sucks cause the pin and spring fell out and it’s gone
Ah bummer! Fortunately the reel will work just fine, only missing the drag clicking sound
@@goodmanfishing Yeah super unfortunate, but I got a broom and lucky for me I found both!
to much money on a "superior brand" to have these issues. Very unhappy, I will stick to my problem free Lew's
I hear you, but any brand can have issues. I've been pretty happy with my Abus
