    I organized my library by theme (Winter, animals, etc.) and placed a number on each bin and book. That way, the students could match the number on the book by the number on the bin. I used bins similar to yours and they held up all year and will be reused next year. The students did pretty well getting the books in the right bins.

      Oh I like the idea of labeling by number! That's simple enough.

    For the library, Avery makes removable round 1 inch or so label that's printable. I print a sticker for each book (using an image), and then print labels for the bins with matching images and words. Makes it so easy!

    You could also put a small piece of colored Washi tape on the spine of the book and separate them by theme or genre.

    You should put tennis balls on your teacher desk too so you can move it on the tile without scratching the floor. As a person with all tile, I put tennis balls on everything with legs. I’m also the person who hates waiting to do something I want to get done 😅

      Now that's a good idea hahaha! My sister helped me move it the next day. Thank goodness for team work :) Thanks to you pointing that out, I'll likely add tennis balls to the bottom when I redo all the tennis balls in the coming weeks.

    I have had several library systems but the one that has been the easiest for me is to make each basket a number and then put dot stickers on the books with the same corresponding number. It is much easier than putting a picture or icon on each basket and the book. My students always got them confused. Also I would love to know how you get paper to stick on the cinder block wall without having it fall down!

      I definitely think the number system is what I will end up doing! Thanks for sharing.
      I use hot glue to get the paper to stay. It stays really well! It typically just pops right off the wall (without chipping the paint) to take it off.

    A quick tip for moving furniture without scratching the floor - carpet square under the leg pieces OR put a small carpet fuzzy side down and the heavy furniture on top. Then you can push it to where it needs to go without scratching up the floor in the process.

    Hello! Love your classroom so far! ( I see your a fellow Catholic/Christian school teacher too!) I've been teaching primary for 15 years and what seems to work for library organization is to group them by genre or theme. A long time ago I tried to do the cute clipart with the match label and sticker, but is was too much to keep up with. So what I do now is number the bins with the genre or theme below the number. I use neon circle stickers and write the number on the sticker to adhere to the book. This way when you have more books coming throughout the year, they are easy to label and organize into the library system. I also have my special/ seasonal books organized in my closet in bins. I pull them out and put them on a separate book display throughout the year. The kids love to see the new books put out and would be eager to read them during DEAR. Looking forward to your classroom setup! Have a good year!

      Thank you! I am leaning towards the number system now. That just seems so simple for not only students to put back, but also for me to create! I’m running out of closet space, which is why the read aloud are currently just on a higher shelf in my classroom. I might use the drawers in the big desk as a filing system for those types of books, though. To be decided soon! (Yes, I teach at a Catholic school!) I hope you have a great year, too!

    1st Grade Teacher here- my library books are grouped by theme/topic/genre/series etc. I put a sticker with a number on the back of Each book and that number on the book matches the number on the library book's bin. I feel that this system is easy to teach and maintain & flexible for growth.

    • @heykelliann
      @heykelliann  Рік тому

    My elementary librarian had the kids make a big bookmark with their name and laminated all of them so when they take a book out they leave their card in that spot and put the book back when they’re done

    • @heykelliann
      @heykelliann  Рік тому

      Oh that's clever! I'm not sure that would work for me because students in my class can "check out" multiple books at a time. If we only did 1 book at a time, that is a great idea!
