- Isonzo is a great WW1 Shooter that has a nice focused view on its own style of FPS. Its $9 on Steam with the Autumn sale which is driving population up too. Thanks @toumuchclutch9980 for fighting WW1 with me in this one!

Correction: The Wright Brothers first flight was Dec 17th 1903, not 1908.
My old AFROTC instructors are gonna kill me now for forgetting this.
I mean there is so much to learn when flying its ok if you forget a few dates (said by the guy with 15 hours of flying )
santos dummont was the one that created the planes as we know them, the wright brothers where the first ones to send something flying
Though I do agree with you, this is unsolicited info for one, and for another fact, just saying their first "flight" Was in 1903 doesn't change when Dumont flew his, so idunno
Yeah, but apparently other European powers already have working planes by that time
Atempt 2: Hey, Drewski! Can you play Battlefield 3? Maybe in the future i vould live that video
As french myself, I actually own my grandpa journal of WW1. He was an artillyman of caliber 75 (the default one). They moved the pieces of weapons with horses for all the years, and poor horses died of negligence(because if you take care of the horse you can't move the artillery so you are dead). He avoided death like 3 times really freaking close (like a shell falling between your legs and not exploding, which was common). I got maps, names, photos of this time everything and even a certified piece of the 7th ballon (german) airship ever done ; they filled it with hydrogen and use it for spying the lines of the enemies. The story is they (and other artillery companies) shoot the big balloon with artillery and it went in flames, crashing in a lot of of littles pieces.
He did survive the war and finished officier, but said multiples times : the "Poilus" (frontlines soldiers) were condemend to a certain death, the gaz in particular was the true terror of the war since it was the first time chemical weapons were used. He did Verdun (it was like a general mobilisation to this important spot) His Captain's (I think?) order was to "shoot shells 24h/24 until further instruction" and said it was Verdun was a living hell for days. They did sleep with the ignite cord in hand, because lack of sleep.
He assisted in person at the invention of the "Crapouillot", which are sick mobile artillery for close combat between lines.
I never played this game but the environnement is a 1-on-1 like the photos or descriptions, but it was much more static in reality with very intense charge to the other line in few minutes.
Thank you for sharing!
Unfortunately the enemy still has his rifle after he dropped it in surrender lol
Cool fact, weapons, bodies, and defences are still being found in these galciers perfectly (and quite literally) frozen in time.
Edit: Changed "Fun" to "Cool." Get it? Cool. I amuse myself.

The Sabaton video for "Soldier of Heaven" comes to mind.
Reminder drew:
- if you want to build stuff, use engineer class. Holding the pickaxe will let you open build menu
- mountaineer is a scout class. That means you can spot people with binos/flare/periscope if you have those equipped. If you want to run and gun more, go rifleman or assault.
Mounty is perfect for run and gun because light infantry is such a powerfull perk.
Just make sure to use your two flares when you spawn, lets you know where to run and helps the officer
@@Baqization yep. It also work the same as officer flares too, meaning you can open the map for a more comfortable way to position the flare AoE. You’d be amazed how many mounties didn’t pop flares.
WWI is in my opinion the most interesting 20th century war. Plus I’m glad Isonzo is covering the Italian front, which was utterly brutal and is overlooked a lot.
My great grandfather was taken as a POW during the battle of Vittorio Veneto so I’m glad this part of the war is beginning to be recognized more.
Well all of the various battles of Isonzo do kind of make it a running joke. Not for the people on the frontlines of course, but WW1 had so many issues with inept politicians and generals constantly making the same mistake again and again. Heck even by the time the US joined the war and waited a year to properly build up and train troops they then still made the same classic mistakes every other single belligerent did.
Onore !
Rarely people talk about it

Okay, story time:
Here, in Hungary, during the communist times we had the mandatory conscription and 6 months service for every guy.
So my grandfather was doing his basic training for his military service, and they were drilling and training mountain fortification assaults. Obviously against the Austrians, who were the closest non-communist country around. Now the irony was, that all the mountineering/alpinist equipment, the clampons, icepicks, pulleys, ropes, etc. were Austrian made.
So they were practicing how to invade Austria with Austrian equipment...
Even the Soviets didn't trust their own equipments over their enemy's.
Sounds like you need to read war is a racket
Today everything would be Made in China.
I wouldn't say it's because "The Soviets didn't trust their own stuff," the "Soviet stuff unreliable" is a myth the Americans perpetuated in wars by sneaking exploding rounds/rifles into enemy camps during Vietnam and general shit talk.
If I had to hazard a guess it's because it was fairly close, the equipment was made with climbing the alpines in mind, and if you killed an enemy mountaineer in Austria but your gear got wrecked, stealing theirs would be sensible. I'd say it's less about reliability and more availability of equipment. The Soviets didnt "make lots of garbage" as much as "had to manufacture entire arsenals for other countries and had to make sure everyone was fitted to be ready for combat after learning what happens when your divisions aren't supplied properly durinf Barbarossa."
That said, neat anecdote! Did the Austrians and Hungarians trade or was the equipment made in Hungary but we're copies of Austria kits?
i would imagine it was austian gear left in hungary through out the wars@@ajohnymous5699
makes me so happy to see these devs finally getting some major love! The jump in their tech & skill from Verdun to Tannenberg to Isonzo shows a clear path of incredible improvement from a such a ridiculously passionate yet small team. I got into Verdun around the Battlefield 1 announcement being a massive nerd about the subject and I think the work they've done to encourage remembrance of such a criminally-overlooked part of history is invaluable! Doesn't hurt that they some of the most mechanically unique shooters out there either

As an Italian I'm always happy to see Drewski play Isonzo, it's such a good game if you're into WW1 shooters and it really shows the contrast between the brutality of war and the stunning landscapes of the Alps. Idk, maybe it's the fact that I've really visited some of those places or that no other war that was fought in such extreme environments, but for me Isonzo is a unique experience, so thanks Drewski for spreading love for this game

Thanks for highlighting this. About a year ago on IGN, the game's Director discussed its unique approach compared to other MILSIMS. Despite a small team and a grand vision, I admired their perspective. However, after release, some UA-camrs spread negativity for clicks, leading to mixed reviews. While I acknowledge the game isn't flawless, similar imperfections exist in others. Criticism often attracts views, creating a cycle. Let's promote fairness and give this game the attention it truly deserves

@@Rookie417 no it's not
Wasn't Nano who disliked the game? I think he called the game a cheap battlefield 1. Which is like a total unfair because you compare a AAA game to a indie game.
i still think bf1 is still the greatest ww1 shooter, if they just made a bolt action only mode and slow down the movement a bit it would have been perfect
It's not much the fault of some youtubers, it was the poor marketing of the game and the idiotic prejudices that surrounded it.
I remember seeing the comments on one of the trailers, everyone was calling it a copy of BF1 like WW1 was invented by Battlefield devs.
Hopefully this video helps get the player count up. Though, I'm guilty of not playing for over a year.
get on
theres a free weekend and a sale going on, player numbers are at an all time high!
Me too lmao
I’m re-thinking about purchasing it. Wonder if there has been more players in Asia
I still play these games regularly. Just played Isonzo and Verdun last night. Stoked to see a big youtuber in the tactical/milsim shooter scene cover this game. These games are a decent bit clunky sometimes but they really have a passion for making immersive gameplay and have a tremendous respect for the history they build their games on. I play against bots with my squad usually, but hopefully this exposure brings more players to the game, the devs deserve the utmost success. The comparison to BF1 is almost natural since they're both WW1 games in setting, but BF1 is really just an arcade shooter with a WW1 skin pack, not even close to the level of authenticity you get out of the WW1 Game Series games.
tbh what you call 'clunky' is what gives them such immersive gameplay. The same reason bf1 feels like cod cause its running practically the same engine as bf4, these games slow you right down and force you to be more decisive with your actions.
@@JimmothyGibbons I definitely didn't mean it in an overtly negative way, as Verdun is easily in my top 3 favorite games of all time, just that in terms of character movement and weapon handling, it's a bit clunky with things like proning at the last millisecond of your reload resets the entire reload and you have to do it again, things like that. Doesn't get in the way of my enjoyment of the game, just an observation. As for overall movement speed, I love the slower movement of these games, doesn't feel like you're zipping around all over the place like a spastic hummingbird.
verdun is better
Hell Let Loose is up there too, though it's WW2.
go back and play bf1. its feels the least cod of any triple a modern shooter ive played. And does not feel arcadey at all. Except for the tanks. prolly too much reliance on tanks. And the player markers.
Verdun, the first of the series, is from 2013, way before than battlefield 1. even though i loved bf1 Verdun, Tannemberg and Isonzo now are real fun and accurate
Yeah BF1 was just Battlefield with WW1 colors. These three games are their own things.
I was born, raised and live on the Eastern Front. 24km from Caporetto, 35km from Gorizia, the Isonzo river, Mount Sabotino, Mount San Machele. 20km from Mount Matajur and Mount Kolovrat. I have hiked all the paths of the War I, excluding the high mountain paths where climbing equipment is needed. a nice job was done on the maps to make them as close to their real counterparts. 🇮🇹💪

What I think is really great - that after all those years, where all the big names kind of dwindled (or mutated) away - you keep providing honest, no-nonsense, old style quality gameplay videos for FPS games. Respect and all the best.

Totally underrated front in WW1. I never knew much about the Austro-Hungarian and Italian front until taking history in my last year of high school. The map really helps put into perspective why there were TWELVE battles for Isonzo.
This looks really good! I’ve seen the title cover somewhere before, but knew nothing about it. It reminds me of what the early COD and BF titles had to offer, before becoming more like arcade games than simulations.
This game is incredible Ty for bringing light to it

I love Isonzo, thank you for making a video on it!
These guys really need to make a Gallipoli Expansion, it'll look incredible.
If I had to guess that would be it’s own game, though Gallipoli isn’t as wide of a theatre as the other three fronts the three games take place in
It would be apart of an Ottoman front
These games have come so incredibly far since Verdun. I remember playing it back in the day and thinking how basic it was but to see this now is wild
I could watch you and clutch play this game for hours! Love the content and synergy you both gave!
Thanks for giving this game some much needed attention. I love how active and engaged the devs are with the community even if its a pretty small one
Been a fan of their work since Verdun (actually released before BF1), so cool to see that Isonzo is still alive and kicking, player counts are looking really healthy again! It's really a great game with devs that are actually pretty communicative and care a ton about the community and bringing the war zones to life in a spectacular way.
This latest one really feels like a great leap forward from their previous games, though I always felt that Tannenberg's full potential (2nd game) was never reached, they had some cool concepts going but just couldn't hold enough players. Still crazy to think that Isonzo has exceeded the peak player count of good ole' Verdun, gotta get back into all of it lol
I love Tannenberg especially since i can play as Bulgaria, the map of Dobruja and Romania is so much fun. Hearing chants in Bulgarian as well makes me so happy my country is in the game
I saw the glacier combat and thought to myself, no way that actually happened, this looks straight out of star wars. But it did happen, i looked it up and the period is called the white war, there are photos of people hoisting artillery cannons up mountains and the game does capture the atmosphere pretty well
Yeah I'm Italian and the story behind the white war is incredibile, on both sides. They had to recalibrate all the ballistic tables because of the altitude (higher than 2500m). They used proper alpine guides and pole expedition guides to lead and make plans
Not to be confused with the soviet-finnish winter war
@fus132 I guess it's pretty easy to avoid confusions 😂
My great grandpa was an alpino (Italian mountain troop) in the Great War. He was still troubled by the war decades after. He earned a silver medal on Monte Grappa.
The had to carry everything by mule or on their backs, and yes, there are pictures of Alpini carrying cannon parts weighting more than 150 kilos on their back, in the snow
Cheers for giving Isonzo some much-needed attention, video was great, and I had a lot of fun playing with y'all in Marmolada and Dolomiti. BlackMill makes exceptionally beautiful, gritty games!
Just got it and played my first two matches, really excited to learn more about an interesting time and place in history. Thank you for platforming it
All the games in the series have been faves over the years. Verdun, Tannenberg and now Isonzo. All different and brilliant in their own way.
Been a fan since Verdun, though I always felt that Tannenberg never realized its full potential with its low player counts. Still, so glad to seen Isonzo has been doing pretty well so far.
This game visually stunning, and very fun, although I find it frustrating sometimes when it spawns me in the open field and I get mowed down, or when hits don’t register, but that doesn’t really matter because when you’re in the last moments of the game and you’re out of reinforcements in overtime and that sick music kicks in while you are shooting stabbing those damn Austrian smurfs in the heat of battle its very exhilarating. It’s a must have in my opinion.
Avanti Savoia!
Could not agree more. Minestrone!
i subscribed because of that pun. love world war 1 and video games being faithful to the war and seeing you play a game based off of it makes me happy, good vid :D
Man I love seeing people have fun playing this game. Hope you stick around :D
The Wright Brothers made their first flight in 1903, and I know that because Flight Simulator 2003 was called "Century of Flight". Isonzo is an awesome game, I liked Verdun, I thought Tannenberg was better, and Isonzo is a leap forward with the newer engine. I didn't like how COD-like BF1 was, and I did not like the very dark maps. I love Isonzo's beautiful maps based on the historical locations, in fact it made me want to learn more about the battles of the Isonzo which I did not know anything about before. Great game & smaller developers deliver the good again.
the italian/austrian alpine conflicts were wild. every gun shot could cause an avalanche. absolutely brutal.
Maps being truly beautiful is pretty much the only good thing about this game.

The people who made isonzo made two other games just like this. Verdun and Tannenburg. They’re older and don’t have as many players so the only way to play it is really through bots. But, they are both really good titles
@@Hydra_2-6 There is still almost always a full game on Verdun
It's funny with all these movement shooters you'd think you'd see a comeback of momentum based projectiles and gameplay like we had with Tribes, but it's also pretty complicated and not as easy as say, CoD and such. I get why developers are scared to invest/risk something like that, not to mention it takes a huge investment to learn properly since it's so unlike most major games nowadays, same reason so many space sims make the space flight and combat super arcadey I guess.
Thank you so much for showing this awesome game mister, player count has been increasing and you are certanly going to help with this video.

My grandfather was an Alpino (Alpini were essentially soldiers specialized in rock climbing), but was (fortunately) born in 1929, sometime after the first wolrd war... He climbed the Dolomiti and other incredibly difficult Mountains in Northern Italy many times and also had some really crazy and incredible stories about WWII. To top it off he was also a pilot, which is where I got my passion for flight... a fucking hero, at least for me. Really miss him!

Officers and squad leaders both can ping them iirc
ive played this game since release, and im like level 80 or 90 something. most of the youtubers ive watched either havent played it or dont recommend it, and im so happy that a youtuber i regularly watch actually played AND recommended it
Really cool to see you do a video on Isonzo, have been playing since day one and love it, always great to see others playing and liking the game because the numbers have dropped off a bit, hoping more people see this and it gets them to also give it a go, great video as always, happy to have you back in my algorithm 😅
This game has the perfect combo of like tactical strat play with high speed action. Like you can hop on and instantly get into heavy action. But also if you get a good team who uses coms you can set up a really good defense or offense. Especially if you use the officer call-ins in combination with maneuvering an pushes.
Also a little reminder to all players! The rifleman carries an ammo box that can be used to restock the ammunition on the mortars, the field guns, and the machine guns. A lot of the time people will use up the mortar or field gun ammo then its never gets restocked. And im pretty sure its due to people not realizing you can restock the ammo. Or they know you can, but they don't know how. That's what it was for me at first. I knew you could restock the ammo, I just couldn't figure out how. Anyway, you just get out the ammo box look at the mortar while standing close, and notice will pop up that says "resupply ammo"
IIRC you have to unlock the ammo box, and resupplying stationary weapons (you can resupply the very rare cannon too) has a cooldown starting from the last round shot. In addition, you can’t reload those while it’s being used, and most players are more concerned about shooting the other guy than resupplying the stationaries
The Italian attack into the Austrian Alps was a goddamn meat grinder. There's even recorded incidents of Austrian soldiers shouting across the lines, begging the Italians not to attack their positions because they were just butchering them so completely when they tried.
WWI was such a waste of human life and for nothing.
This is beautiful! Love the historical tidbits it gives you to read also.

I went into those tunnels at Monte Grappa it was a surreal experience, rlly interesting
Owning a antique shop I sold a vetterli a while back. They were imported as wall hangers. This one was welded (bolt ) closed but was easily cut open and operated. They require blackpowder or equivalent power hand loads as modern 6.5mm ammo will fire but are dangerously powerful in the old girls. Very neat gun steampunk style. I handload and these are actually terrific guns if u want a good blackpowder rifle but I just didn’t wanna buy dies and brass. They sell for 250$ or so. Some ppl pull projectiles and do half charges but if not recommend that as some powders are position sensitive but again blackpowder or a small pistol powder charge would be fine. Bolt action has a advantage of not being sensitive to powder charge for cycling. These also have rear lugs on the bolt so they don’t get dirty in the action firing BP.
We just need more people like you to play this and Verdun so we can recruit more players.
Looks like a great addition to the game! Might pick it up during the sale
I'd love to see more gameplay from other weapon types in this game! It was a lot of fun watching the bolt action gameplay, so I'm interested to see how the upgrades play out. Definitely hoping to see more

@@sputafuoco9167 There were SMGs in the video as well. SMGs, LMGs, and scoped bolt action rifles would all be things I'd like to see played with
@@sputafuoco9167 That's also false. The French fielded a number of self loading rifles and in general they were used in some form or another by all the major powers. Just never formally adopted except for the French RSC.
@@aidanr.8324The only smg in the game is a Villar-Perosa, which the Italians used in a machine gun role for infantry. Submachine guns were in their infancy during world war 1. The only ones that got used were the Italian Beretta M1918 and German Bergmann MP-18, both used at the very tail end of the First World War. This game tries to recreate WW1 combat authentically, so the weapons are mainly just pistols, revolvers, bolt-action carbines and rifles, and emplaced machine guns that can't be moved.
Finally you returned to Isonzo!!!!
I'm in love with the WW1 Game Series that Blackmill Games created, they feel like love letters to WWI and to classic shooters.
I remember playing Isonzo when it first came out, I didn't really like it that much. But I think they were able to improve it a lot, and it's actually quite nice to play now!
I love this developer, I used to play Verdun and Tannenberg a ton.
Picked up the game after this vid, actually even better than I thought! Officer gameplay is fun, I like setting up some good artillery
Amazing playing dudes, gg
