Thanks for the demo. You have saved me a lot of trouble. Stripping Peacock quills with an eraser has been the bane of my fly tying life.

@@timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769 Hi Tim! I stripped a few eyes and the results turned out very well. Seems that the bleach sold in Canada is not as strong as what you have available. Not a problem as it just took a bit longer ( about 4 minutes) soak to work, next time I'll delute it less. I found that an old toothbrush does an excellent job of separating the quills as they are drying. ...Off to tie some buzzers!

My son & daughter, sent us to Goa for our Ruby wedding (40 years) celebration and when I was there I got 50, yes 50 peacock feathers, they cost me about a 2 pound and now 14 years later I’m still using them. Stripped a few eyes for quill buzzers and now have lots of herl for diawl bachs and black and peacock spiders left over, so Alan there you go get yourself to India to get some peacock feathers. I don’t know if you can import them now because of PETA restrictions, but believe that private individuals are OK.

Loved the video Tim but my friend who is a top notch chemist says the bicarbonate of soda is a complete myth and does not do a thing! Just rinse in warm water instead. Cheers

That's what I was thinking why are you trying to neutralise an alkaline with another alkaline? if you wanted to use anything white vinegar would be better but the fact you've been doing this for years proves previous comment just a rinse in warm water is fine.

I like the Veinards eyes . Although my last batch was kindly collected by my Niece from the local Zoo !! .... Ebay are always good for a deal but finding large eyes isnt easy . I would try Lakeland or Lathkill , you want the biggest eyes you can find . If you buy them from ebay or collect them yourself , don't forget to pop them in the freezer for a month before using them to kill off any nasties !

Great tip but can’t remember the last time I saw decent peacock eyes in any fishing shops. Any tips on anyone selling good quality feathers?
It’s ok, I just read another one your replies for the same, cheers.
