Fine Margins : DRY FLY fishing under your feet .
Lake margins are full of food and often ignored by anglers in favour of casting long lines. By watching the water and taking a more stealthy approach you can build a good bag of fish from under the rod tip .

      An Intermediate is a full sinking line . Its just the way we refer to a slower sink rate line usually up to 2 inches per second then anything faster we call a sinker .. confusing I know ! Thanks for watching .

    • @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769
      @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769 Місяць тому

      Slow fished small black lures are always going to win out in murky cold water . I suggest small Minkies or Zonkers . Depending on the depth of your lake fished wished on a floater or intermediate with a very slow figure eight . When the water is coloured you will often find fish close along the edges so dont ignore the margins !

    Tim, great video as usual, what is your view on shop bought tapered leaders ? do you use them ?

    • @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769
      @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769 Місяць тому

      I only use a tapered leader when I am throwing big flies like poppers , predator flies or saltwater stuff with big weighted eyes . For small water and reservoir fishing theres no real benefit to fishing tapered leaders as the energy from your fly line should give you good enough turn over . I dont used shop bought leaders preferring to make them myself . Its very quick and far less expensive .

    Loved that video. So many fish and your poor boat partner watching you reel in fish after fish 😂. Ive seen in another video you prefer an 8wt rod for windier and washing line work? What would be your length preference, 9, 10, 11ft? Or is there not much in it?

    • @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769
      @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769 2 місяці тому

      I will select an 8wt set up when I need to generate more line speed so yes generally windy days when I am fighting to control my back cast . Flat calm days when I want increased speed to promote turn over and when I am using big bulky un aerodynamic flies ..

    Brilliant fishing Tim 🎣 I've got my first ever fly fishing competition at Grafham next month and this video taught me some great tips. Which fly did the best on your day? • @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769
      @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769 2 місяці тому

      Think it was pretty even between the colour and the nymphs mate . Water at Grafham is still cool for the time of year so barring a prolonged heat wave August should be pretty good . Dries score well later on usual bobs bits and big reds . They can get on the fry early so popper fry or sparkler boobies worth a shot .. Message me on FB nearer the time and I will have some gen for you .

      I have a snowbee Waldron . A little pricey but superb set of jaws and good rotation . You will probably pick a good second hand one up on ebay .
