    Looks like a fun way to cook using your, already there, heat source. Great video.

      Thanks Christine. We’ve literally cooked with our Dutch oven for the last three days in a row. On one day, we added a packet of mesquite seasoning to burgers, potatoes and mixed vegetables and onions-super yummy 🤤

    I cooked my first meal on top of my soapstone today, venison stew. Was sooo good. Like you I've been scared to put stuff on top of the soapstone for fear of staining and marks. I've just ordered a silicone cooking mat, hoping that by putting that between the dutch oven etc and the woodburner will be successful in keeping the soapstone asthetically pleasing. Wondering if other people have tried this or not or have other tried and true remedies. Thank you for your video, gave me the confidence to go ahead and cook ontop of mine for the first time after getting the stove 3 years ago

      Sorry for the late reply, I’ve had some health issues.
      Glad to hear that your first meal was a success!
      How exciting!
      Unfortunately I’m not familiar with the silicone cooking mat, so I can’t give an opinion.
      Have you tried it yet?
      We can’t use our wood burner this year because I have some immune system issues and the doctor doesn’t want us to use wood in the stove because of possible mold spores exposure.
      We so miss the warm cozy fire and Dutch oven meals.
      Take care 😊

      Thanks. We cooked it all for 1 hour & 15 minutes. We should have cooked closer to an hour but it was still great tasting. It was so good that Michelle today on the wood burner cooked mixed veggies & onions with a couple angus burgers in the Dutch Oven. Was even better today as Michelle added much more garlic. I think this is our new hobby 😂

    Making me hungry! Looks great! I would also like to cook more often on my heritage soapstone but I'm nervous. My wife and i put a stainless steel pot of water on our stove most of the winter last year (our first year with this stove) to help re-humidify our house and noticed the stone started turning yellow where we placed our pan. We never had a spill. So now I'm concerned about putting any pans on the top. Just curious if yours is staining and what other pans have you tried?

      Sorry for the late response.
      We found that the soapstone stove works best with using crockpots so that you slow cook your food. We have tried making pancakes in a cast-iron pan and it really just doesn’t get quite hot enough to make it work. We have a cast-iron little griddle that we were going to try to see if it would work with pancakes.
      We haven’t tried anything besides Dutch ovens and cast iron. We just have little staining from food spills on back right side of stovetop.
      I don’t think they recommend stainless steel on the soapstone stove if I remember, correctly.
      Try cast iron or Dutch oven 😊
      Let us know how it goes.
      Take care 😊

    Looks fun! Can you use the pot on a grill?

    • @SilverLiningDayDreams
      @SilverLiningDayDreams  2 роки тому

      Yes it can be used on a grill or on a gas stove top for that matter. It’s not recommended for use in an open fire though. We’re so having fun cooking! Thanks for watching

    Brad, what're the dimensions of your window? I'm wondering if I can fit a grill inside the stove.
    The Esse Warmheart actually has grooves to slide in a grill, so I'm wondering if the same can be done in the Heritage.

      After just opening the door to our heritage stove I don’t see how you can really put a grate in there unless it’s standing off the ground with legs. I wouldn’t suggest cooking inside the heritage stove. The stoves not gonna get as hot as the esse, so the esse would be better for cooking I would think
      I did a little research on that Esse stove you mentioned, and that’s quite the cool set up. Are they available here in the states?

      @@SilverLiningDayDreams Only 1 distributor and the price is a little eye watering.
      There's a Canadian alternative called the Drolet Bistro, which costs about half. But no built in ledges for grilling, so I'm thinking a smaller campfire grill (say 12" by 12") might work. Seen some people use larger ones for fireplace grilling.
      tbh, I didn't even considering grilling until I saw the Esse. It's impossible to get an indoor grilling setup with hardwood, in the kitchen. So this makes it very interesting.

    No blower motor option available on these stoves ?

    • @SilverLiningDayDreams
      @SilverLiningDayDreams  Рік тому

      We have the 2015 model and it has a blower and a heat shield. The new model does as well; is our understanding 😊

    What I can’t understand is how they charge as much for one of these stoves as they charge for a new propane furnace. You can buy great wood burning stoves that work just as well for 800$ instead of a ludicrous 4000$ that’s just insane

    • @SilverLiningDayDreams

      Thanks for leaving your thoughts but I would disagree as an $800 stove is going to go to room temperature about five minutes after the fire stops burning because it’s steel
