      @IAmSuzyQ 4 роки тому +3

      @@stephlrideout Awwwww! You are so lucky! I got to feed and cuddle baby squirrels, and baby opossums one time, and I nearly died from an overdose of adorableness! At the time, I had been feeding raccoons on our back porch. It was too cool...we had made friends with 2 raccoons (which turned out to be a "couple"), that we fed every night. Then they disappeared for a few weeks, and I thought the spell had been broken, and that our racoons friends were gone, but they showed back up one night with 4 babies!!! The babies were over the top adorable, and they were so friendly to us; so much that we were able to hand feed them. Anyway, because of that experience, I decided I needed to see a baby squirrel. I found a list of people in the area who took in abandoned wildlife, and randomly chose one person on the list to call. Turns out the lady I called said that although she'd never done it before, she'd be happy to let me (a total and complete stranger) come to her house to see the babies. When I got there she showed me around her house, the cages she'd built around her property, and of course the little fluff balls. I have a whole new appreciation for opossums because of that lady. A few yrs ago someone brought her an opossum that had been hit by a car, and she ended up keeping her because at the same time she had a litter of baby opossums who needed milk, and the one hit by a car happened to be lactating! She knew it wasn't their mom because their mom had died; it was just perfect timing. 🤷🏼‍♀️ The momma wouldn't be able to be released to the wild after she was healed, so she just kept her as a pet, and she was absolutely adorable and so sweet! She would come in the house and cuddle on the couch with humans, and was there to help comfort all the babies that were brought there. Perfect!
      Baby opossums are too damn cute, which was shocking to me, considering adult opossums are the scariest looking things on Earth. 😉 But the baby squirrels were on a whole different level of cute...they were so tiny and soft, I never wanted to leave! It was such a great experience and I couldn't thank her enough for letting me come over that night.
      When I asked her how she got involved in taking in these little guys, she told me she was a nurse so it just kinda came naturally. I said, well that makes sense because I'm a nurse too....and get this...we worked at the same freakin' hospital! And it's not like there's only one hospital near by, there are like 10 hospitals nearby but we both worked at the same one, and it's not even in the city where we both lived. It sure is a small world!
      *Now I'm going to have to find someone who will let me feed baby sugar gliders! 😉

    Guys, sugar gliders aren't "wild" animals in all cases. In their native environment such as this video, yes they are. But in the usa they are pets and are not native. Do NOT release captive bred gliders in the usa. They will NOT survive. If you find one outside, it's more than likely someone's pet, you should try to capture them.
    I know about gliders because I used to have 14 in total, in several colonies.
    I want to clarify that most (if not all) gliders in the usa are NOT captured. They are bred out. If you want to consider some as pets, please note you need to do tons of research! On top of that pairs! Have to have more than one! Gliders have been around long in the usa, and aren't wild, but aren't "domestic" either.
    What the woman in this video did was perfect. He was born wild. She helped him and released him. He seemed to only be a few weeks old in the beginning, which is sad. His mom probably dropped him.

      I was looking for a comment like this. I completely agree with you. If they were bred as pets, they can't survive in the wild.

    If humans were meant to be omnivores, we wouldn't have compassion for small animals, instead we kill and eat them right away. This shows that humans don't have a predatory instinct to hunt. We're herbivores and that's why we help animals.

      I have compassion for my car because I got attached to it. There are jokes that people pack-bond with anything including inanimate objects. I obviously understand the point you're trying to make and I'm in no way trying to bash vegans or vegetarians but the logic just doesn't hold up given the scope of human emotion.
