  • Finally got around to building some Empire of Dust guys.
Major Egyptian vibes. Strange spear designs.
Didn't bother building any archers because I can't figure out how they keep their quivers on with no straps, but that's an issue I have with every single plastic skeleton kit anyways...

A lot of these give me Ray Harryhausen vibes and I am totally here for that.

I think the cavalry faces are supposed to be painted as gilded deathmasks. Hence the chiseled look. I believe some are partially broken to reveal the dead skull behind.

Great Review! They just released an Ambush box for these guys in the last couple weeks. Comes with 2 cavalry units, an archer unit, and an infantry unit.

The difference between the two infantry sprues lies in the variety of head options. I think that’s it. Instead of printing the same sprue twice, they recut 90% of the same sprue and changed out the heads.

Just got the notification that my box will be delivered today!!!

If you haven't already figured it out it looks to me that the reason you can't find some of the cavalrymen is because you used rider bodies to make infantrymen (specifically the power squatter)

Less ancient Egyptian and more Las Vegas Egyptian.

Those Calvary look amazing. I like the idea of the red bread faction, but I’m not a huge fan of all the style. But these look good

Its the helmet curves match He man 's headdress. We used to laugh when we got the model sheets, he Never changed his expressions....good observation.

I'm pretty sure the "power squats" guy is from the cavalry sprue, not the infantry.

With their cowls, they do look a bit like 'King Hiss' from MOTU, not sure what else it could be?

Would you say the cavalry are similar in scale to the old Warhammer cavalry? It hard to tell with Mantic as the proportions are all over the place.

It's been ages since I've seen GW undead cav in person, but I don't feel they are that grossly misproportioned compared to older stuff or modern GW.

I really don't like Mantic products, terrain crates aside. I like this channel though!

      Always appreciated!
Mantic's output can be pretty polarizing for people into tabletop gaming, but there's a lot of quality stuff they've done over the years. Just need to be willing to look for it. Their resin has been nice.

"Nice plastic" and "Mantic" don't exactly tend to go together.

Mantic's come a long way from their early days. Lately their kits have been really really nicely detailed plastics. I especially love the new ogres they put out. They're not skipping leg day anymore xD

@@Karazu1kun You say that, and yet the video still shows them with very clunky, dated sculpts

    • @ObscuritiesinMiniature
      @ObscuritiesinMiniature  Рік тому

I haven't got any of the new ogres yet, so I have yet to pass judgement.
These guys are decent, outside of those spears. The halflings were a good kit if that's something you were interested in. The Northkin were a nice set as well. Maybe not ground breaking, but serviceable and with enough detail to paint up nicely. Plus having a range of options to build your big units up similarly out of the box is always appreciated.
I'd also argue the original skeleton kit was a good kit for its time.

The GCPS troops were a very nice kit. The Asterian Marionettes were good, but limited in their options.
