Divine used to do this same monologue as a live stage piece but instead of shooting into the audience she would wheel a shopping cart full of fish on to the stage and throw them at people
I was curious about the references so here they are: "I framed Leslie bacon" - Leslie Bacon was an antiwar activist and a material witness for the Weather Underground US Capitol bombing in 1971 in retaliation for the war in Indochina. "I called the heroin hotline on Abbie Hoffman" - political and social activist Abbie Hoffman was arrested for selling three pounds of cocaine to an undercover officer, and was prosecuted under narcotics law even though (as he argued) cocaine was only a stimulant and not a narcotic so he was being treated unfairly. "I bought the gun that Bremer used to shoot Wallace." Arthur Bremer shot presidential candidate George Wallace in 1972 in an apparent bid for glory (according to the prosecution). xxxxxxxxxxxx "I blew Richard Speck." Richard Speck was the notorious serial killer with the tattoo "born to raise hell", sentenced to death in 1967 but finally had his sentence commuted to life in prison in 1972.
She said Juan Corona, not Juan Guerra. He was a farm worker in Northern California who murdered 25 people and buried them in the peach orchards where he worked.
Jody May's performance here (ua-cam.com/video/xqCQ99nBcwE/v-deo.html), at Hurrah, is what made us upload this scene from Female Trouble. It's all about abstraction.
I have to say that seeing chiclette and concetta putting there lipstick on whilst watching divines floor show was the funniest thing I ever saw and I remember laughing till it hurt at the ritzy
I was so captivated by Dawn's performance. When she asked "who wants to die for art" and this man jumped from his seat screaming "I do!" I felt like it was me who jumped and me who screamed. And also me who was shot right after
The Dashers never needed repercussions for what they did in the film. It was Dawn/Divine's karma for "Multiple Maniacs". Everyone had their happy ending.
My fav scene from FT is when they drag lil taffy upstairs and chain her to the bed ... That whole TAFFY scene with the jumping rope and the GIANT pastry Divine is eating .. I die laughing
“Do I have to because Doctor Phil is having a special and I already made plans... next time? Love you baby! But see you tomorrow... ya, I mean sure, I wanna die to be famous and art Divine but again I have plans. Yes. Tomorrow? No, I have to blow Richard Speck. Next time, okay. Okay. Good bye... okay, I’ll run it past him. Ya. Bye. Gotta go, Divine.” **clicks phone on receiver** “Yeesh.”
Yeah, John Waters said that no one knows who Leslie Bacon was anymore. She was Weather Underground and accused of bombing the US Capitol in 1971. She was acquitted.
My favourite part is the guy who jumps out of his seat to die for art. He doesn't even need to think about it, lol.
LOL ME TOO!!
Hahaha, yep
He wanted to be famous after all.
Idk why but it's funny 💀
she just fires immediately.

it.
@hungwilliam44 this is Divine, not Pennywise.
I'd catch it for broiled fish dinner
She was like a pre-joker in this scene
Artpop was a dark time for Gaga
I like Gaga , but this just made me laugh my A off. haha.

Your art killed me.
Divine wasn't THAT ugly!

Thank you
The video of Richard Speck playing with his boobs, snorting coke and sucking his boyfriend's dick in prison was performance art.
Genius writing and Divine performed this scene brilliantly.
Fun fact: The shooting wasn't scripted, Divine just started fucking shooting at the extras and the director decided to keep the scene. /jk
I'd believe it
He was lucky he did not end up like Alec Baldwin!
considering what shit happened in Pink Flamingos that is a possibility

Amazing this inspired a Disney character (Ursula).

First time I saw white people actually running AWAY from danger. The way they jumped out of those seats looked like black people reflexes 😂
