I did this to my FS 40 and Shield over a year ago. Still strong and bright as when new. Solvents have no impact. Only the Non-Acetone cleaner will remove it. I did not like the bright white, so I mixed 2 parts gray with 1 part white. It came out awesome. Little more subtle, less in your face. Be careful when you buy polish that you don't get the sparkly kind. Doesn't work well on a manly gun. 8^}
To the guys that done this and have the cloudiness or haze around the letters, I too experienced this and found out using a clean wash cloth with non acetone polish remover and scrubbing the area around the letters (without touching the letters) then using a clean cloth to wipe away while it's still wet a little will take care of it. I was relieved when it fixed my S&W AR-15

Great video with incredible results. Thank you and I appreciate you making the point of not using a nail polish remover with acetone, since most nail polish removers contain acetone. It would be a common error that can ruin your finish. Well done.
I'm doing this. And I'm walking into Shopper's Drug Mart in full uniform and buying all this stuff with no explanation given. Let them talk, what do I care.
Lol, I stumbled across these videos and was like I'm doing this asap. I didnt give a fuck and walked up in fred myers and got what I needed like a boss, haha.
I just did this to my PT709 Slim it turned out perfect, very easy to do and simply just a great idea, it's all about being patient and letting the nail polish dry before you mess with it if not the remover will wipe it all right off.
Use acrylic paint. Clean with non acetone remover first. Apply a decent layer with a Q tip and use a small squeegee to ‘screen print’ the paint in. WAY easier and less messy. Use a Q tip with acetone to tidy up. Takes literally 5 minutes.
Same here nice job! I was thinking using modeling paint, like on toy planes, and cars. It's an oil base and should be easier to clean up with mineral spirits! Wonder how long nail polish would last?
Hey John.... Thanks for the video. I did both my Bersa 380's and also my Taurus PT111 G2. turned out GREAT. Just wanted to send you a shout out for the great idea.
I have been doing this for years on many things, it adds a great detail on motorcycle parts. I was messing around and did my Ruger P95DC with the red Glo Paint I just did the sights with. It actually looks pretty cool at night though being water based it probably would not last real long. I put matte clear finish over it on the sights, the lettering on the slide isn't deep enough for that.
Nice! I only used nail polish to paint sights and to also put a dot between the sight and the barrel on rifles. If the dot is cracked you know your rifle sights may be off because the sight moved. Also back in the day before lock-tite was everywhere, we used clear nail polish on scope mount screw threads as a lock-tite alternative.

Great video!!! I did this on my Springfield XDS 9mm and it looks great and it looks like a factory finish!!! When he says take your time, TAKE YOUR TIME!!! Don't rush the process while removing the nail polish with the acetone. Don't use a lot of pressure wiping or you can take the polish out of the groves like I did. If you do wipe some out just put another coat on. Again, Great Video!!! I will be thinking of a about what gun to do next.
I like it! If you ever want to remove the polish for any reason, I suppose you would simply apply the non-acetone polish remover more liberally, maybe with a small brush to get in the grooves, and wipe it away. Have you ever tried removing it? I'm thinking of those that might eventually sell the gun where the prospective buyer may not want the coloring. Thanks!
Best way to loosen the polish is to dip the container into warm or hot water for 15-30 seconds. I found that this gets rid of all air bubbles. The air in the polish heats up and moves to the top so when you open the bottle all the excess air pockets/bubbles release as soon as you twist the cap off. My wife is a nail tech, she takes the credit.
I found that the paint that is used for the lettering on tires works really nice. It comes in what looks like a sharpie but it is paint and just about any color you would want.. It holds up really well and you do remove the extra with nail polish remover. I just think it lasts longer then the nail polish. Just be sure to clean the lettering really good before you start.
thanks for taking time out to share. I did it according to your instructions and got a professional looking result. patience with light flat rubbing is key when wiping down. 2 coats made it better
I did it this weekend. It turned out GREAT! The only note I would make to your vid is my wife said you definitely shake the bottle. The bottle also says "shake well" too. I shoke mine vigorously and had no issues with bubbles or anything. That's just my two cents, but thanks again for the vid, it was very easy to follow.
The white really makes it pop, it looks custom painted. I saw 1 & they used a paint pen, I can get nail polish from my sister & save some cash. Thanks for sharing.
Going to have to try this method on my Glock, I did my M&P 40c but the video that I saw didn't say to let the nail polish dry so it was kinda tedious and took a few coats and it came out not as bold as yours did. Going to redo the 40c and see if I can get the lettering to come out more bold, thanks for the tip to let it dry first.
I had that same thing happen to my brothers M&P 9c. I'm not sure why it happened on his either, but when we cleaned it after a day at the range, it all went away. The nail polish shouldn't damage the finish. It's just excess polish that needs to be removed.

Is it necessary for you go over it with a clear polish to seal?
my gun would be upset if I put make up on it.
Torture test it, until it appreciates a free manicure.
xD
Lol
How can you remove it, I heard finger nail polish remover would remove the bluing?
Did you use gel or enamel polish?
I haven't tried on the polymer, so not sure how well it'll hold up. If you do, please let me know how it turns out.
The Bob Ross of pistol slides. Nice dude
Do you really have to take the gun apart to do this
Would this survive the caliber indicators on the barrel? I have a 9mm and a 40 barrel. I imagine the heat will be an issue.
I saw somebody paint their Glock with neon green. Looked cool. I did my S&W white and love it. Took just a few minutes
I used cerakote C it just air drys and holds up good after many cleanings and the price is good if you need to do multiple guns
