    What are you Best/Worst moving experiences?

    • @balisaani
      @balisaani 2 місяці тому

      I didn't unrack any of my gear when I moved my studio (twice). I left everything in their respective racks and flightcases, including the cabling (that I rolled up neatly and taped shut in the back with plywood). I ordered a large rectangular flightcase for my BM-15As, and laid them facing together, fitting snugly 69-style, so to speak. My two basses and several keyboards had road or flight cases, and the outboard and 30+ rack mounted synths and samplers and audio interfaces stayed in their respective racks. I got a variety of storage containers from the Container Store, and stuck in all the loose stuff, and taped it up very carefully. Then I hired a piano mover for my grand piano, and professional movers for my racks and keyboards and amps, and monitors.And that was that. Oh, the mic stands, and keyboard stands, I taped up, and rolled up mafia style in my carpets, which the movers also handled. Laptops, desktop, screens and the ribbon mics I handled myself personally - needed to keep my ribbons upright at all time, so I hand carry them wherever I fly, in their original cases. I have some Apple plastic bags where I put the cases, and so it looks like I just bought them at the airport, and no one bats an eye at the extra cartage, so to speak.

      I moved to indonesia in 2013. Put most of my stuff in styoreage, but take a motu 8 pre a few mics, cables in my suitacse, along with 20kg worth of electronics components, soldering iron etc...gee i got some funny looks in customs when scanned my bag ahaha...never again, those rubber gloves are cold man

    We defo need a video on why you had to move again because I'm super curious! It could help others learn. It will also be interesting to know how you are reusing the acoustic treatment? Wasn't that custom for the old space?

      Sure I can see how it’d be a little bit interesting, but ultimately there are only so many reasons things don’t work out. Partnerships, building, rent, landlord, etc. If there was a way to make good content out of it without just seeming to be down on others or a situation he probably would, but I’m guessing he feels it wouldn’t be much more than just a needless story right now.

    I've been through it 3 times in the past 7 years, with another move coming within the next year. When compounded with the rest of an entire household move, the studio move is a pretty awful experience. All of the dust bunnies, sweating and crawling around behind desks and amps, knees and elbows on hard flooring...it's physically brutal! I think that you're spot-on with your advice.

    I would also add: STRETCH WRAP!! Small one for those odd shaped items and a large one for larger items or furniture you can't/won't break down - make corners out of cut up cardboard and EPS (a roll of that too!!), and stretch wrap all around a few times and you are set!! Also, a hand truck, ratchet straps and you'll make fewer trips and sace your back... but get a back support belt too!! 🤘🏻

    Matching tubs and/or rolling foot lockers are a key storage item for my gear and accessories. The Sterilite type stack well and are easy to move. Slap a label on each and keep a log of what goes in each locker number. Being able to grab a pile of them and go quickly is very helpful. Large duffel bags also make great cable storage. They're great to load and move too as they will conform a little to surrounding items making for a tighter load pack in a car.

    dude how the heck are you moving studios so often, and so quickly? I would just go back into my house if that was the case. or do what I did... I build a 450 Sqft shed from the ground up specifically for my studio in the backyard. Did all the work took about 4 months and spent $5,300 a fraction of the cost.... did all the soundproof, treatment, electrical, air conditioning, wiring, sound both about 20sqft, drum/instrument tracking room about 40 sqft....and the rest of the room is for mixing.

    2 mins in, I don't think I'm going to watch this video just now - but will save it for later. It's too stressful for me. Sorry you had to move like that. I've done it twice in the last 2 years. But next time will be a lot more difficult. Because I've a lot more stuff now. On the plus side, next one will be a permanent one again, in my own building. I never want to share walls and ceilings with others, ever again. Maybe that was your situation too, especially being a drummer and working with bassists and electric guitarists.
