Simple DIY Curved Cut in Patio Pavers with HarborFreights Grinder / Masonry Blades

- Made this video as I DIY'd my patio last year, but couldn't work out how to cheaply and simply make curved cuts in my pavers. Thanks to Harbor Freights laborday sale and other coupons I couldn't resisit picking up a cheap grinder ($19.99 ) and 10 masonry cutt off blades ($7.99), and scurrying back to my yard to start cutting bricks. I prepped the patio brick using a piece of paper to determine the cut, which i transfered to the brick. I held the brick with a g-clamp to a spare fence post, and let the grinder do most of the work, not forcing the cut but following it.

Many of us come here without the know how and want to know how. This is a good vid, yet sometimes wrong blade. No big deal. We all learn. I'll be cutting some fire bricks real soon. Thanks to you and some others who have commented. I'll have all the right stuff. diamond blade, gloves, eye protection. I lay in bed wondering how I can cut curves in bricks. Got it. Thank you
Nice to see someone take the time to get the correct finish. 👍
Thank you for the video. It actually helped me in learning how not to cut pavers. Like you, I was only aware of the masonry blades, But in reading the comments below, and knowing that I have many cuts to make, I will be purchasing 2 Turbo diamond blades, one for the skillsaw and the other for the grinders.
Again, thanks for sharing your experience... There is never a perfect way to do things. It all depends on style, budget, needs, and priority.
Awesome comment, and thanks for taking time to comment, and watch. Yep, I was blind when i did this could find nothing on the internet and youtube. Comments are often entertaining and priceless. Have a good one.
Awesome! Thanks for this, it really helped me.
Thank you! I am building a path and was incredibly stressed over how I was going to curve the bricks without selling a kidney.
well done buddy
Thank you very much.
Fill a container with sand, put brick on sand, wiggle it a bit so it stays firm, then cut.
It's an all day job!!!!!
Also use a 7inch grinder and blade, cut then can be done from one side,
Thanks for watching the video, and the suggestion, I'll give it a go, thanks !
Vielen Dank für die Wiedergabe und den Kommentar,
hoffe, dass es hilfreich ist.
On the right track, but using the wrong blade. Use a concrete blade and it will go much faster and cleaner.
Nice cut ! But makes me nervous using that type of blade it could break and pieces of the blade could fly everywhere and impale you
I learned one thing from this video.... only use square corners. LOL. Just kidding. I may actually have to use this soon (hence my looking it up). We'll see how it goes.
What patience... Hope you don't have too many to cut... Or you have all summer to do it! A diamond balde and wet saw would be so much easier... Oh yes, and a mask and protective glasses wouldn't hurt either.
holding blade with hand!! yikes!!
It is a good thing he only has 8 or so cuts to do, or he'd be out there all week with that type of blade.
Thanks for the comment, and watching !
K
Diamond cut blade right? That's what you want... Still nice cut.
So, this was why you buy a diamond blade and water it while you go. Takes abut 10-15 seconds with right blade.
Chisel, log splitting wedge, squirrel , whatever's handy
Oh man that is funny
wow, I hope you are only cutting one tile!!!
WOW
Be careful of wearing the blades down too thin they will explode sending fragments of disc flying around and sometimes impaling objects or people.
Steel diamond blades work the best and last a lot longer too... stay safe👍✌
No,No,No,Use a Diamond blade, and if you have lots of cuts, buy it from a masonary supplier, not a home improvement house.Expect to pay $35 to$70,depending on how many cuts you have, the more expensive blades last much longer.Trust me on this.
Thanks for the useful comment, exactly what i did for other projects.
I’m surprised the blade didn’t get jammed in the curve.
Omg man use the concrete disk the one that has small blades
So dangerous, your wearing out the sides of the cutting disc which can make the disc shatter.
Bad method, do not do this.
Chisel? OMG Your risked breaking it. Just turn the blade across it.
Thanks, yes, I sure broke a lot of bricks just to get to this stage. Appreciate you taking time to comment, and watching !
Anyone else see the spider at the start of the vid?
I had to rewatch to see it.. ha
Do you cut from either way up?
Well you should always cut away from yourself and your hands, also wear a pair of leather work gloves. Cut slow and remember the direction the blade is moving, as it has a tendency to walk through the cut and often kicks out of the cut and you do not want that kicking towards you. So yes cut either way up as long as it is away from you .
@@carlfxy That is useful advice. Thanks for the tips
Wrong blade and omg that took ages but what about the Anvil sized chisel lol.
There are own discs for curved cuts, straight cut discs may break under lateral pressure.
hi can you direct me to where I can get the discs for doing curves ... equipment I have three and a half inch angle grinder plus a 14 inch cut-off saw AKA chop saw and a miter saw not that that would be useful for this and thank you very much
+Blury Bury oh right I also have a 7-inch tile saw wet and a skill saw I really don't want to buy more equipment I just purchased a 14 inch segmented Diamond Turbo blade for my chop saw to cut my concrete bricks that cost me $55 my 25% discount from Harbor Freight I hope this disk lasts

Thank you!!! i didn't even know these existed and after admiring the physical blade it's definitely a much better and safer choice when dealing with curved cuts. Definitely getting me one of these!
😅😅 no such blade.. 😅😅
Drill, urrrr ummmm, grinder.... Lmao....
Wow... you're actually filming this to show how it's done? Any fingers left?
Hmm, well half a decade ago, I wanted to know how to do this, and guess what !! No video's on youtube. I found a workable solution and here you go, I shared it. I've recieved hundreds of useful comments and suggestions, and over 153k views of people wanted to know what i did. Thanks for the comment, really useful.
@@carlfxy Should tell her yes, there the middle finger is left!
Yeah? Why you using a metal cutting blade?
Hi, I can use a diamond blade?
Is this guy serious! you're making a mockery of masonry you need a diamond blade and the cut takes about 15 seconds Max
Yep, I appreciate that, and the comment. Thanks for taking time to watch !!
Very dangerous using the wrong disc.
Buy a diamond blade
your using wrong disc, you should be using a diamond disc, can be had for $10
Sure was, appreciate the comment, and you taking time to watch.
I normally just buy the Dewalt diamond blade for around $10, they work well. If the pavers are pretty thick, cut down as far as you can, finish with wide chisel and hammer, splits apart easy. This is the blade. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002Q8TIC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1
wrong disk mate
Ummmmm, diamond masonry blade...???
i am trying to bring awarness of this awful disease i wasent warned wasent given a mask and had no idea what i was messing with
Get a diamond blade buddy…
Stop being cheap try a diamond blade you will be amazed,
first off don't take a chisel to your brick LOL secondly you only need to cut no less than 25% of the brick on each side and snap it off like you were snapping drywall then Vice up that brick with the curved side exposed so you can get the angle grinder add it at such an angle that you can just sweep off the rough Edge and use a diamond blade wear a mask and you're looking at about a minute per brick for the time it takes two lock in place cut two sides snap and clean off the rough part.
Thanks for the useful comment, yep I've been stupid over time not using masks for any of my projects. I would encourage others to do so ...
Carl Fxy I admit if I'm working outside in a wide open area like street side and am continuously spraying down my work while using a fan to blow everything in a different direction I care not to wear a mask LOL but if I detect any silica in the air I'm breathing in then I'll either adjust my set-up or wear a mask. I don't think a tiny bit will hurt as we breath all sorts of junk in but even a tiny bit on a regular even daily basis can be a set-up for some doctor visits in the future. I'm usually more concerned with loosing appendages or getting something in my eyes so proper eye protection and gloves are a must. They are all important but we often are either lazy or in a hurry right? I think not wearing eye protection is the worse thing anyone can do.
If time is money you will go broke doing it like this.
Thank fully time is something I had and have plenty off :) Appreciate you taking your time to comment and watch !! Have a good one.
Look kids, this is what playing with your life looks like.
Snowflake! Joking apart thanks for the comment and watching the video..
Jesus Christ.... that shit was painful
Gee you did a shit job on that. Next time just use a turbo diamond wheel.
hey, thanks for the comment and watching !! Really useful !! THANKS
How NOT to cut a curve with a grinder more like, no gloves, one had and you are digging that blade in and asking for it to shatter into little bits and kill you.
You need a diamond blade and please don't ever use an angle grinder like that, beyond dangerous
Dude... no...bad... very bad.. why can't people Google shit before they have at it and record and post...
Dude, half a decade ago ... nothing on google on it ... get a life
If you're doing any sort of a medium sized job or larger it would take you 9 months of Sundays to get done.
