Actually thinkIng about it more he was born in NY then moved to PA then played HS Football there & College football at Penn State University. He was drafted into NFL by a team representing NY but they played in NJ! The only football he played in NY was when the Giants played away games against the Buffalo Bills.
Soon as I heard we got him, I called my friend that's a Giants fan. I said "Hey, you ever heard of this Barkley kid we just signed?" He hasn't picked up the phone since! Fly Barkley Fly!
I think with Derrick Henry's performance and Saquons this year, as well as what Ashton Jeanty has been doing in college, I think these 3 guys may have just saved the running back position and gave the position as a whole a new value.
As a Penn State grad and Philly area resident, my heart broke when he went to NY. But it's almost sweeter this way, finally having him here and seeing him get 2,000 yards in his first season in green.
Let him have his personal trophy. Let him play against his own past. New York was his twice disappointment. BUT... Pennsylvania gave him refuge and stability with love He is HOME in Philly. GO BIRDS NFL 2024 Philadelphia Eagles 2024
Saquon is exactly where he belongs... in Philly with a team that allows and encourages his continuing success. It was such a thrilling moment when the Eagles acquired him. The potential resonated that he could be the missing link in their bid to fight their way back to a Superbowl opportunity. Hopefully, they get there and are victorious this time... especially with all the key players they have on their roster. 🦅 Fly Eagles Fly!!!🦅
@ you mean the Idiots. That should be their name moving forward, the New York Idiots. But I’m happy they are idiots, because now instead of watching him play and cursing because he is running against the Eagles, I get to watch him running for the Eagles
@@ValueshooterI took JT over him in a dynasty startup, just lost to him in the championship due to bad performances by Caleb Williams, Joe mixon, dk metcalf and James Conner.
They wasted his years in the league in New York! Was always great and could have broken the record years ago. I was always so angry at the media claiming that Christian McCaffery was so much better than he was.
Every question asked at the end of this video is self explanatory. He's gotten to 2K yards so far, next week he's going to break Dickerson's record against the Giants, and the Birds are bringing that Lombardi back to Philly..... Go Birds 🦅
I enjoyed the video but only ones who didn't want Sequon were the Giants! They threw 100 million at Daniel Jones but somehow paying Barkley was out of the question! 😂😂😂
Imagine if his father also said "Well Saquon, the coach said you'd be a far better linebacker or DB. Just play that position. He knows what he's talking about. He's the coach."
Want any more proof that a good running back can be worth more than a WR, NFL big shots? Especially one that loves to play and has the desire and leadership abilities that Saquon does? Yeah I'm a Giants fan and I'm happy for him.
Best quote I read about him was in related the combine where he did everything except put a cape on in fly out of Lucas Oil Stadium. Click bait title, 10+ minutes to surf algorithm, 6 minutes in and not even at the Giants.
Good video. Awesome talent finally being used as he should as a professional. Thank goodness for free agency and that this guy wasn’t lost to obscurity and oblivion in that Meadowlands dumpster fire. Elite RB behind elite OL, finally. Thing of beauty. 🦅
New York made a big mistake. HUGE! But they had made that mistake long before they got rid of him, they made it when they treated him poorly and didn’t give him the opportunity he deserved. Now he is a Philly superstar and he is HAPPY. 😊
This goes to show that the foundation of a great sports franchise is built before the first player is signed. The Eagles were rudderless up to 2015. They had the potential but failed to give Andy Reid the support he deserved when he needed it the most. Then they hired Chip Kelly. A successful college coach but a clueless NFL vandal. Then, in 2015 they hired Howie Roseman and ( except for a hiccup or two) it's been non-stop to the top ever since. The signing of Saquon Barkley is an example of a sound football mind. Thank God for Jeffrey Lurie and the hands off management of day to day football operations. My Dad always said the key to successful management was to hire the best people and turn them loose. Are you listening, Jerry?
I mean the giants didn’t want to pay him at all. The team is ass so do you blame him or anyone for feeling that way. Plus he wanted to stay close to home and Philadelphia has ran the nfc east for nearly 20 years so it was a no brainer.
0:02 when was Saquon not a Superstar? He was a premier back in college @ Penn State (WE ARE…), he was the entire offense once OBJ was gone from NYG, so when was he NOT a SUPERSTAR?
@ correct, but that’s not how the title of the video reads. “Unwanted RB BECAME a Superstar”, could have read “Unwanted RB RESURGES as Superstar” (or something like that)
What a total mess up by Giants heirachy who should all be fired. Barkley is a future hall of famer. That alone shines out and should have been the light bulb that made their decision for them easy. Barkley is no ordinary running. He is a great and elite running back. Period!!
calling him "unwanted" is a stretch, as it was only a single guy who didn't want him, everyone else wanted him to stay. unfortunately that one guy was the one guy who got to make the decision. but as a life long Giants fan, i'm thrilled he got paid, thrilled he got a chance to prove he is one of the best to ever do it, and i sincerely hope he breaks the record next weekend, even if it does come against us.
As an Penn State and Eagles fan, Barkley is where is belong. I knew the giants would do nothing for his career. NY left him homeless as a child and looking for a new job as a football player. NY sucks.
My favorite thing about what Saquon is doing this year is how stupid it makes so many people look. From the Giants fans saying he's washed and lost his explosiveness or that he'd get a season ending injury by week 3, or the people saying he'd be just another average RB. The best one though was all the people who said that D'Andre Swift was just as good if not better than Barkley when behind the Eagles O-Line.
@@thehalftimeshow Yes, but all teams do not value all players the same way, obviously Barkely would have helped the giants this year but certainly not enough to get to the playoffs. So arguably the giants did the right thing, but they shoulda looked for a sign and trade deal instead of letting him walk.
So, 5 minutes into a 12 minute video, we have had why he was a superstar at school and college, and nothing about the title of the video, indeed, after 5 minutes the video is about how a college star running back became wanted in the NFL.
I definitely should have put that clip of the Giant front office, that would've been better. Thank you for your feedback Ron. That's how we get better.
Unwanted? Not really. Ask any FF player before the season started. He was very much in demand. Everyone who is anyone knew he was going to kill it in Philly.
It will be a big mistake by Sirianni to not play him against the Giants. The all-time rushing yardage record is within reach. He DESRVES it, so does that O-line that protects him. We may never have this situation again for years. Sure, there's the rest & injury-protection issue, but if the team is rusty & gets bounced out of the 'unpredictable' playoffs - what's the point ? I say let the man play, uplift him & the entire team by setting the record. If Sirianni fails to follow thru on that & then loses out on the SuperBowl as well, he will be run out of Philly forever.
He did not become a superstar. He has talent which was restricted in NY by the piss poor coaching, and it did not help having average talent on the offensive side of the ball. He went to a much better team from top to bottom and when you are surrounded by better talent, especially on the O line, you become a lot more productive.
Your take I mostly agree with. But was he considered a Superstar in New York? If he played in an average market other than NY would he be considered a superstar? I really like Saquon, he’s always been a great RB to me. But that sentiment wasn’t shared by the Giants. Thus the title.
Saquon is where he should have been from day 1. Imagine his numbers if he had been in Philly his whole career.
He would be on pace for Emmitt smith record
Right?
I agree he would have been really high up
Went from New York to Philadelphia in childhood and in the league
And both times it was landing in Philly that elevated him to superstardom
