Renekton is a hard counter to her with his sustain, deleting shield, undodgeable stun and a dashing tool. He can cast Q while moving is a thing. Furthermore, Renekton can abuse Stridebreaker to slow which counter Ambessa's passive scaling on her movement speed.
I've used Mordekaiser against her and she was surprisingly easy to deal with. Just bonk her for days since she needs to close in while staving off her harass with the shield. Once your ult comes she becomes free dinner. With Darius it's how much damage you can take and how fast you can stack before all-in with ult.
A lot of simple champs counters her. Garen, poppy, voli, and pretty much most juggernauts who could counter her dash and tanky enough to outlive her first rotation. Even Nasus could somewhat fight her back. On the other hand, she counters some champs hard. Sion for example is Ambessa’s prime target. All of his skills are easily dodgeable and he cant even escape with ult as Ambessa’s teleports her to his back.

The Ambessa I've seen adapted to his build and rush Black cleaver with Ravenous Hydra or just plain Eclipse depending how fed you are. She poked him to death and dance around like he's nothing more like a punching bag. It was an emerald ranked match, mind you. Mordekaiser is also a similar case to her. She doesn't even let Mord get the 3rd stack of his passive at some fights. As the jungler at the time, it was painful to watch.

Like I cant seem to brain how they made a champ that counters other champs that requires skills while she gets rekt with champions that are simple and basic. Like I'd lose in scaling vs juggernauts like Sett, Garen or Sion but I seem to easily beat champs like Riven, Fiora or Yone toplane. Ppl dont like Ambessa or says shes OP cuz shes new is kinda of a stretch. Shes very weak against champs with high mobility and she cant really sustain in fights very long in the early to midgame. And she is easily gankable and weak against hard cc.

She has less base damage, less base hp and less base armor than all the champions you mentioned that you are losing to. Her trade off for having dashes are very very harsh so vs champs that you can't dodge damage you 100% lose (Garen Sett Warwick Briar Trynda Poppy Voli etc)

This seems interesting I will try it out but I think the resilience tree is really necessary in top lane as she gets easily Stat checked by half the toplaners but I imagine it can be good mid or in a good match-up
I know the videos recommends sudden impact for the extra damage and a lot of people use it but resilience also feels good on her due to weak early bone plating can make the difference
@@lordfaust352 I always take Resilience tree with the Shield Bash rune. I honestly think it's her most powerful sub-rune. With the amount of shielding she gets from her W, and how short the cooldown gets into the late game, she's proc'ing Shield Bash constantly, and getting very respectable damage off of it since the rune's damage scales off of 15% of the shield. And Ambessa can get some pretty massive shields. I've been averaging 1500-3000 damage off Shield Bash every game with her, depending on game length.

It is the same few champs that high elo players believe will be unplayable on paper for her pre-release. *Absolute unplayable*: Cassiopeia(HARDEST COUNTER), Wukong, Olaf, Ryze, Kennen, Zac, Riven, Heimerdinger, Renekton(HARDEST MOST PICKED META COUNTER), Quinn, Warwick, Shen, Kled, Camille, Volibear *Very hard*: Irelia, Ornn, Illaoi, Darius, Vayne, Gragas, Tryndamere, Malphite, Mordekaiser, Tahm Kench, Swain, Pantheon, Garen, Poppy, Vlad, Teemo, Sett, Maokai, Urgot, Aatrox, Gangplank, Gwen, Singed, Trundle, Jayce Everyone other champ is skill based. Varus top is still a thing in Korea and is apparently the single hardest counter to Ambessa, even harder than Cass who disables your passive whenever you try to engage or run. At least she counters Fiora, Jax, K'sante, Aurora and the wind brothers I guess, they got out dashed basically.
Damn riot; this is the best ranged melee bruiser harasser mobile unstoppable risk-free champion you've added this far! Can't wait till a third K'Sante is added!
Couple things to note: Her ult seems to place you just outside of tower range if it can when ulting an enemy under tower. I personally have had amazing success with shield bash thanks to the massive 175% bonus ad scaling on her w, adding on to the passive damage buff as well as eclipse/steraks/maw shields. Ult is amazing for catching early flashes when enemies flee a fight. GP W can negate the suppress and damage of her ult all in one, so be extra careful.
@ewar777 No, no. The damage scaling on it is poor, and not worth it. The shield doesn't even scale off of the ability's level, and the cooldown is already so long you get to use it maybe once in a fight. Max e second to increase the AD ratio on that, which applies twice thanks to how the ability works.
Btw 8:10 in wild rift She's absolutely broken because her passive in ult instead of armor penetration and omnivamp it's heal and refund cd on kill, she can 1v5 easily
The counters mentioned arent her counters from my games with her, she goes really well into anything woth no range and is also fne into garen flash q since her w after takes so much dmg away from him - renekton, yorick & yone were truly toxic so far for her. She struggles into any ranged mage and even worse if the opponent has a mobility spell on top of range. Aurora is pain as usual for her too. Her early is similar to Riven but you can poke and harass easier yet ur all in is worse until items arrive. If you mess up you lost for the rest of the game and if you get your item first you can snowball like crazy. Don't be afraid of darius garen or k'sante anymore, she fights these well tbh. Most important: abuse cyclosword and some matchups like k'sante are rewarding with grasp.
Like the video said, against range mage and adc top, bush tactics are key. I also prefer ignite over teleport if they're squishy. Forget CS early and go for poke 100%. Trade > CS until they're on kill range. Get pink ward on your 1st back and put it on the center top bush. ggwp.
It's worthy to note that at this time, not only does her ulti come risk free with missing, but it also allows her to trigger her dashing passive if you make an input directly after. Just an absolutely insane kit atm
When the counter isn't CC but her own cooldowns. That's good to know actually. Will make it a lot easier choosing when to engage in a fight against her.
im surprised people arent using trinity force, it kinda fits perfectly with her passive and the skill-auto cycling, also the ability haste rune from blue rune page seems to fit her too, getting extra cd reduction after a kill could extend her time fighting just a bit
poersonally after trying pretty much all of her builds i would say that ecipse shoijin cleaver is the best 3 item core for ambessa, you get so much fighting power with eclipse, a ton of ah with shoijin and cleaver synergizes rly nice with her passive ult pen making u deal almost truedmg to enemies, she benefits from ad ah and hp so amazing just like riven voltaic hydra seryldas is worth trying vs full squsihy teams tho
She's very yasuo/kalista in her mobility where you have to be actively fighting or have minions to be mobile cause she runs out of energy without autoing for her passive so respect what she can do off minions. As far as I can tell, even with all these dashes, she can't cross walls without flash or ult so that's a pretty big weakness of her mobility.
I've shit on every Ambessa I've fought because my champion pool natural counters her or doesn't have problem dealing with her dashes. The only strong skill in her kit is her W and it's only the shield part that's strong. I think she's one of those champs where she'll have to stay intentionally weak because she's unfun to fight (kinda like Zed)
"Shes extremely squishy" well yeah, if you build Cyclosword 🤦 I'm maining her and I'm stomping almost every game cause she has great laning, dmg, movement, durability and 1v5 capability. Obviously you need to be ahead but with the right itemization and usage of her kit you will be. The first 3 items i'm having more success with are: 1st Eclipse (dmg, shield and ah, great to snowball the lane and 1v2 early); 2nd Spear of shojin (she spams abilities so its great on her and gives also hp); 3 death's dance (if youre just a little bit ahead you can 1v5 easily after this). Cyclosword can be used, sure, but only against more squishy comps and I belive its good only if you're behind to try to cheese some kills and get back in the game.
@Dragonsoft I've tried her in bronze, gold, diamond and at gm. Now I'm trying to 1trick her on an old account that peeked at gold2 last time I left it, and I'm having a lot of fun. Obviously the items I mention are not set in stone and you can switch something based on the matchup and enemy comp. Also KR challenger is a bubble with special metas and play style so while it's interesting it's not something that you have to base your play style on. Btw you being silver doesn't matter that much cause there are many reasons on why you might be there while knowing much more than the average silver player. I hope it is all clear even if my English isn't perfect 😅
So the way I've done it so far: max q > w > e, that shield on the w is so much more valuable than the healing/damage you get from e. I like to q in then w dash in. They usually react the the first q with their own damage and so the w is big here. They waste stuff. I still have e dash and the second q to follow.
Illaoi is a harder MU for ambessa too after playing it for a while. Her W is such a low cooldown compared to Ambessa's insanely long cooldowns. So Illaoi can just W trade you constantly

yeah she definitely has weaknesses people just like to complain for no reason. they see dashes and start spamming the same npc dialogue about 200 years and whatever else without even playing the champion. it’s embarrassing lol
She is just Riven 2.0, you want to get a kill at early game like Riven and hard snowball. If she not get a kill or get behind Ambessa unlikely can comeback to the game. Plus she get hit by 1 cc in combat 80% she die. She is kinda balance and not broken (maybe the shield is a bit too much) but compare to k'sante who don't have counter pick, true damage, unstoppable, super tanky, ect... Ambessa just fine.

yeah i’m pretty sure this champion gets cooked by illaoi like every other melee champion in the game lol. ambessa doesn’t even have the luxury of having a strong early game to contest illaoi. if you use your dashes to dodge illaoi’s e, then the matchup could be fine, but i see illaoi countering or, at the very best, being a skill matchup for ambessa.
best trade combo ive found so far is w (gapclose with shield) q1 e (already dashing away, sometimes even hitting both e´s) and then q2. You walk away without a scratch, W->q1->e->q2 Auto in between obviously when you can ^^
Depends on the matchup. And almost never is good to start with W, you are supposed to use W to mitigate damage if u start with W you just waste it. Of course depends on the matchup, if u are against a champ with no burst damage like let's say mini gnar, then yeah W is a good start. But if u fight against mega gnar, starting with W is just troll.

A darius for example will just take u with E, wait till shield is out and then W so u didn't mitigate any damage and maybe u can't even escape depending on where you are step on the lane. If u step up with Q first, then u can use ur W shield to predict any hit that u can mitigate like W or Q.
i somewhat agree with you. she already has passive armor penetration on her ultimate, but it only starts out at 10%. so there are probably more efficient options, especially against squishy champions.
@eebbaa5560 yeah thats true, waiting till 16 is a gamble. Champs like Darius and mord don't normally build pen because it's on normal skill rank up rather than r. The only reason I'd see something like cleaver being good is if it actually allows you to do 2 combo cycles to kill someone rather than 3 if you brought another ad item.

i always say this, but new dobby videos are always the best part of any new champion release. as for ambessa herself, i think that riot has actually done a good job with this champion. when she was announced, i didn’t care much for her, but after playing her for a few games, i think she’s quite fun and she has some potential without being broken like everyone thought. hopefully as this champion develops further people warm up to her and stop letting groupthink and kneejerk reactions influence their perspectives so heavily. personally, i’m getting pretty tired of how jaded the league community is. riot has made tons of mistakes in the past, but i would like to see more people try to be more mindful in the future and evaluate new champions and balance changes more holistically. after the last few hits (and misses) with new champions, ambessa seems like a step in the right direction for the future of league champions: modern, but tasteful.

I'd like to compare Ambessa with Kayn (after some nerfs). Very unique playstyle that got backlashed into oblivion, but is actually quite balanced because they're useless when put behind.

what do you guys think about bringing her bot? I've had my fair share of renektons and volis demolish me so i decided to run bot and have been finding success. despite the lack of adcin the team, her backline access and burst late game makes up for it. her lvl 1-3 makes it easy to mow down and snowball the lanes aswell if you have an engage support. W with barrier is nuts btw my only gripe is that eclipse rush is mandatory and building tank items feels awful on her
Till now i only lost to poppy top 😁 . The secret is to lvl 2 asap and go all in . Conqueror stack fast so can make the enemy flash back or he might die also .
she’s also really weak in the early game, quite unlike riven. i also see her as a less well-rounded, but more specialized, version of riven. she’s also easier and more intuitive to play in my experience.
Yes you're exactly right. People are overreacting to this champion because of the dashes. But in hindsight, she's even less mobile than Riven, which has been in the game for YEARS now.

It gives her a unique style. She needs to do AA's in between the abillities to even do full combo's in fights, otherwise she won't have enough energy. The energy cost for the abillities are quite high
What I love about Ambessa is even though her combo looks complicated, it is easy to execute, even first time. She is like Riven, skill and match up wise.

Ambessa just feels like a worse version of renekton. Renekton is tankier, has more cc, more burst, 2 longer range dashes with armour shred and much more healing. What exactly does ambessa do besides dashing 200 units 4 times and being useless after that
There is a lot more Potential in Ambessa cause her kit (When perfectly used) is Specially good at spacing and kiting, but Renekton has innate value, his stun is impossible to miss, his combos come off quicker and present less risk for him, So you trade off raw power for the Potential to be a better renekton, but you risk being a Worse one
@@Theoriginalmistwalker you hit the nail on the head. she scales better than renekton at the expense of having no reliable utility and a very weak early lane. she’s not a worse renekton, but a riskier and more specialized version of him. and like you said, it’s a double-edged sword; the reward for playing her well is likely more than what you’d get for playing renekton, but the price you pay for losing will also be much harsher.
why do you gloss over the fact that ambessa is constantly dashing like kalista which is her entire identity, there's a difference between two dashes every 10 seconds vs dash every skill cast

Ngl haven't had this much fun since they removed Prowler's Claw, Ambessa is a straight bs champ with high base damage due to passive She hit 6 you pretty much die unless you're Renekton, Gragas or Jax which are 3 of her biggest counters.
Her w makes her shild all the fking damage and she's insane when she's not even limited with mp restriction. Having her with conquerer just keeps her from dying for each successful kill. Way to broken honestly with her high mobility and damaga and tanky-ness. Mage type will be instant gg without mobility skills or cc

Don't be afraid of darius garen or k'sante anymore, she fights these well tbh. Most important: abuse cyclosword and some matchups like k'sante are rewarding with grasp.
Like the video said, against range mage and adc top, bush tactics are key. I also prefer ignite over teleport if they're squishy. Forget CS early and go for poke 100%. Trade > CS until they're on kill range. Get pink ward on your 1st back and put it on the center top bush. ggwp.

It's worthy to note that at this time, not only does her ulti come risk free with missing, but it also allows her to trigger her dashing passive if you make an input directly after. Just an absolutely insane kit atm
i think r. hydra is so good on her, gives her some extra lifesteal and makes her insanely good at wave clearing
When the counter isn't CC but her own cooldowns. That's good to know actually. Will make it a lot easier choosing when to engage in a fight against her.
im surprised people arent using trinity force, it kinda fits perfectly with her passive and the skill-auto cycling, also the ability haste rune from blue rune page seems to fit her too, getting extra cd reduction after a kill could extend her time fighting just a bit
poersonally after trying pretty much all of her builds i would say that ecipse shoijin cleaver is the best 3 item core for ambessa, you get so much fighting power with eclipse, a ton of ah with shoijin and cleaver synergizes rly nice with her passive ult pen making u deal almost truedmg to enemies, she benefits from ad ah and hp so amazing just like riven

She's very yasuo/kalista in her mobility where you have to be actively fighting or have minions to be mobile cause she runs out of energy without autoing for her passive so respect what she can do off minions. As far as I can tell, even with all these dashes, she can't cross walls without flash or ult so that's a pretty big weakness of her mobility.
I've shit on every Ambessa I've fought because my champion pool natural counters her or doesn't have problem dealing with her dashes. The only strong skill in her kit is her W and it's only the shield part that's strong. I think she's one of those champs where she'll have to stay intentionally weak because she's unfun to fight (kinda like Zed)

I'm maining her and I'm stomping almost every game cause she has great laning, dmg, movement, durability and 1v5 capability. Obviously you need to be ahead but with the right itemization and usage of her kit you will be.
The first 3 items i'm having more success with are:
1st Eclipse (dmg, shield and ah, great to snowball the lane and 1v2 early);
2nd Spear of shojin (she spams abilities so its great on her and gives also hp);
3 death's dance (if youre just a little bit ahead you can 1v5 easily after this).
Cyclosword can be used, sure, but only against more squishy comps and I belive its good only if you're behind to try to cheese some kills and get back in the game.

Now I'm trying to 1trick her on an old account that peeked at gold2 last time I left it, and I'm having a lot of fun.
Obviously the items I mention are not set in stone and you can switch something based on the matchup and enemy comp.
Also KR challenger is a bubble with special metas and play style so while it's interesting it's not something that you have to base your play style on.
Btw you being silver doesn't matter that much cause there are many reasons on why you might be there while knowing much more than the average silver player.

So the way I've done it so far:
max q > w > e, that shield on the w is so much more valuable than the healing/damage you get from e. I like to q in then w dash in. They usually react the the first q with their own damage and so the w is big here. They waste stuff. I still have e dash and the second q to follow.
the W shield does not scale with W rank but with ambessa's level
Illaoi is a harder MU for ambessa too after playing it for a while. Her W is such a low cooldown compared to Ambessa's insanely long cooldowns. So Illaoi can just W trade you constantly

She is just Riven 2.0, you want to get a kill at early game like Riven and hard snowball. If she not get a kill or get behind Ambessa unlikely can comeback to the game. Plus she get hit by 1 cc in combat 80% she die. She is kinda balance and not broken (maybe the shield is a bit too much) but compare to k'sante who don't have counter pick, true damage, unstoppable, super tanky, ect... Ambessa just fine.

yeah i’m pretty sure this champion gets cooked by illaoi like every other melee champion in the game lol. ambessa doesn’t even have the luxury of having a strong early game to contest illaoi. if you use your dashes to dodge illaoi’s e, then the matchup could be fine, but i see illaoi countering or, at the very best, being a skill matchup for ambessa.

best trade combo ive found so far is w (gapclose with shield) q1 e (already dashing away, sometimes even hitting both e´s) and then q2.
You walk away without a scratch, W->q1->e->q2

Depends on the matchup. And almost never is good to start with W, you are supposed to use W to mitigate damage if u start with W you just waste it. Of course depends on the matchup, if u are against a champ with no burst damage like let's say mini gnar, then yeah W is a good start. But if u fight against mega gnar, starting with W is just troll.

i somewhat agree with you. she already has passive armor penetration on her ultimate, but it only starts out at 10%. so there are probably more efficient options, especially against squishy champions.
@eebbaa5560 yeah thats true, waiting till 16 is a gamble. Champs like Darius and mord don't normally build pen because it's on normal skill rank up rather than r.
The only reason I'd see something like cleaver being good is if it actually allows you to do 2 combo cycles to kill someone rather than 3 if you brought another ad item.

i always say this, but new dobby videos are always the best part of any new champion release.
as for ambessa herself, i think that riot has actually done a good job with this champion. when she was announced, i didn’t care much for her, but after playing her for a few games, i think she’s quite fun and she has some potential without being broken like everyone thought.
hopefully as this champion develops further people warm up to her and stop letting groupthink and kneejerk reactions influence their perspectives so heavily. personally, i’m getting pretty tired of how jaded the league community is. riot has made tons of mistakes in the past, but i would like to see more people try to be more mindful in the future and evaluate new champions and balance changes more holistically.
after the last few hits (and misses) with new champions, ambessa seems like a step in the right direction for the future of league champions: modern, but tasteful.

I'd like to compare Ambessa with Kayn (after some nerfs). Very unique playstyle that got backlashed into oblivion, but is actually quite balanced because they're useless when put behind.

what do you guys think about bringing her bot? I've had my fair share of renektons and volis demolish me so i decided to run bot and have been finding success. despite the lack of adcin the team, her backline access and burst late game makes up for it. her lvl 1-3 makes it easy to mow down and snowball the lanes aswell if you have an engage support. W with barrier is nuts btw
my only gripe is that eclipse rush is mandatory and building tank items feels awful on her
Eclipse is awful on her. cyclosword and hydra perform much better in the stats and everybody forcing eclipse is part of why her winrate is so low.

Renekton is tankier, has more cc, more burst, 2 longer range dashes with armour shred and much more healing. What exactly does ambessa do besides dashing 200 units 4 times and being useless after that
There is a lot more Potential in Ambessa cause her kit (When perfectly used) is Specially good at spacing and kiting, but Renekton has innate value, his stun is impossible to miss, his combos come off quicker and present less risk for him, So you trade off raw power for the Potential to be a better renekton, but you risk being a Worse one
