- Come for a morning walk with us on the Obi Obi Boardwalk in Maleny which is known by the locals for spotting the elusive platypus. In fact, the Obi Obi Creek is where platypus are known to breed.
Maleny is a picturesque little Hinterland town on the southern edge of the Blackall Range, with views over the coast and the Glass House Mountains. This charming little town is full of galleries, art studios, speciality shops and cafes....and it's only a 90 km drive north of Brisbane.
The Obi Obi Boardwalk is easy to locate in Bunya Street, Maleny.

Hi, we're Beth & Paul from Brisbane, Australia and we love to travel!
Paul retired on 28th February 2020 and on the 1st March 2020, we set out on a 6-month adventure around South East Asia. This was a well-planned once-in-a-lifetime travel experience! It was our intention to show you how you can have a great time travelling without spending a fortune.
Our timing wasn't great - with the outbreak of the Covid-19 virus and subsequent global turmoil less than a month into our trip.
Until it is safe to travel internationally again, we turn our focus on travelling around Queensland and sharing everything our beautiful State has to offer!
Our videos are posted weekly 😊 (we aim for Thursdays).

Beautiful board walk Beth and Paul with an added bonus of seeing another one of our unique little critters. Fantastic!… ❤
We’re so pleased you enjoyed this….we really like this walk because it’s accessible to everyone….and yes seeing a platypus was the best 🤗
So glad Platypus population survived the development and construction. Very informative video, thanks guys :)
Thanks Wayne 😊 We’re really happy you enjoyed it!
Thank you for that lovely video 😊. When we were living in Caboolture, we used to see platypus all the time in the Caboolture River when we were walking to Morayfield. I had never felt so blessed and honoured to see them 💗. Thanks again for some more beautiful memories 💞. Take care. See you both next week ☺️.
Thanks Carol & David 😊😊There’s nothing like seeing them in their natural habitat is there?! We hope you had a great weekend ☀️and yes, you’ll see us next week!
How amazing to see a platypus! 😊😊
Yes, it’s such an awesome spot and there’s always a very good chance you’ll see one there in the mornings ☀️Next time you come up this way, you’ll have to do the walk there!
That is incredible to see. What a lovely spot
What a fantastic video. We’ve done the walk a few times but didn’t know about the platform. Definitely going to try again. Nothing like nature is there. Thank you for this.
Thanks Patricia 🤗 We met locals along the way who see a platypus most mornings….apparently mornings are the best time to see them! How lucky are we all to live in this beautiful region?! Have a great week ☀️
Wow! Going to add that to my ever long stretch of lists to see when I finally land on the beautiful sunshine coast seeing that platypus is amazing so thank you
Thanks Finlay 😊 That’s what we said….WOW! We were so happy to see him too! Apparently, locals who walk there everyday almost always see a platypus. They said the key was visiting in the morning ☀️
So good to see a platypus in the wild. Thanks so much Beth & Paul. Hope you have a wonderful long weekend 👍❤️
Thanks Shelley 🤗 yes, it was amazing and great to know our waterways our clean and healthy. It was great to see the sun come out this afternoon after the rain this morning….we hope you are having a great long weekend too ☀️

When we eventually get to travel again to Noosa , we will drop in on Maleny but this time instead of just looking at the shops and food places take a walk down the Boardwalk and try and see the Platypus (I have never seen a Platypus in the wild but Peg has) - just love your videos and enthusiasm. have great week exploring - Philltheflyer
Hi Phil & Peg 🤗 that sounds like a great idea….it is a beautiful walk and hopefully you will be well rewarded with a platypus sighting too! The locals tell us they see them there most mornings…apparently that’s the best time to see them 😊
Very beautiful view. Loved every bit of it. Lot's of love from Nagaland 🇮🇳. New subscriber here. 🥰🥰🥰

Hi from sunny chilly scotland today. Thanks for another interesting video. Really enjoyed it . Glad the platypus made an appearance 😊
Thanks Lynn, don’t worry it hasn’t been much warmer here the last couple of days …we had our coldest October day yesterday in over 20 years. We should be getting an average of 27c per day but today was 22c and yesterday was 17c. We hope you’re keeping warm ☀️ We’re happy you enjoyed the platypus…
you soon could be working for david attenbough soon as australian nature programe ,i mean a platipus on camera wow !

Cool! We will definitely go there in the coming weeks. It’s very pretty and I would love to see a platypus too!! Thanks for sharing ❤❤
Hi Hanelie, it was the best! Locals tell us they regularly see a platypus from the platform in the morning (they said that’s the best time to see them). The walk is wonderful and the coffee on the Boardwalk was lovely also 🤗

@@BethandPaultravel you are welcome! 🤗
Lovely boardwalk and it was nice to hear all the birds in the background. Really glad you saw a platypus , they’re amazing creatures! 🥰
Thanks Julie 🤗 Yes, we’ve decided to do this walk more often…we don’t live far from here and it’s such a special place ❤️
Nice video ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks viceieva 🤗
The nature in Australia is truly something else wow 😍
Really glad you enjoyed this one @Crow Dynamic 🤗
Wow that is so amazing! I went to visit Maleny way back 2019 but I didn't know there was a Platypus Lookout there. Well, I guess I have one thing to add on my list then. Yay, thanks for sharing Beth and Paul. It's so awesome!
Hi Ivy 🤗 We’re really happy that you enjoyed this video. We were hoping we would see a platypus and share it with our viewers! Maleny is even better than it was 3 years ago with a few more interesting artisans and shops. It has Mary Cairncross Senic Reserve and Gardners falls (swimming hole) nearby to the Obi Obi walk where the platypuses live too! 😊
@@BethandPaultravel Wow that is so nice. Wish I could pay a visit to those platypuses soon. 🥰

Hello Beth and Paul. Another stunning location to visit on our bucket list. Maleny has managed to appease the best of both worlds. The Platypus and Woolworths. Kudos to the locals, dispelling the stereotype of NIMBY. Well done video with a beautiful musical score. Hope you're doing ok. Sending you much love🙏❤🙏 Harriet, Jim and Yuki . Richmond, Va.
Thanks Harriet and Jim 🤗 Yes, Maleny is very special and to the credit of locals, they work hard to preserve their beautiful environment. It’s a small town with a population of less than 3500 but it’s known for its warm community sprit ❤️ it’s also very pretty and definitely worth a visit! Have a great week ☀️
Thanks for all your nice video's! We will be coming over from the Netherlands second half of January to visit Maleny and a lot of other places you mention in your vids. We are really looking forward for this. Your vids give u so much good information!
One question though, how do you deal with all the creepy and venomous creatures that seems to be everywhere?
Regards, Martijn
Thanks Martijn 🤗 it sounds like you’ll be having a great holiday….make sure you bring your bathers because it’s hot in Queensland in January! You can swim at one of our beautiful beaches or waterfalls 😊 We are often asked about our insects, snakes, jellyfish etc but in all honesty they have almost no impact on our lives…in Summer we use insect repellent or cover up in the bush or at sunrise and sunset when any mosquitoes might be around, we spray our fly screens, doorways etc to keep spiders out and we find that if we ignore snakes they will ignore us. I guess we’re brought up in this environment and know no different 😉
Thanks! What are the chances you run into a snake?
We'll make sure we do the Obi Obi Walk and maybe spot the platypus.
If you are in a city or suburban area there’s almost no chance of seeing a snake. We’ve had one in our garden in 15 months…a colourful non venomous one and watched it move through the bushes with a torch, but we live in a rural area …surrounded by farms and national parks. Occasionally we see one when we’re in the car and it’s crossing the road or if we’re walking in a national park, but when they see or hear us coming, they scurry away 😊
@@BethandPaultravel Thanks again!
We are finally here!! Its our first day of living in brisbane😀 Any recommendations for places to visit as a family? X
Hi Annemarie 🤗 that’s great news! The weather is looking a bit iffy today with showers possible, so we think a great place to start would be Southbank. The Sunday markets add atmosphere and if it starts to rain, GOMA Is a fantastic place for all ages! Show the family the lagoon pool, check out the edible garden, there’s plenty of places to grab something to eat and if you’re feeling energetic, you can walk across the goodwill bridge (or ride electric scooters) to the Botanical Gardens. Kids love Brisbane Museum which is also next to GOMA……or take a ferry from Southbank to Howard Smiths Wharves and walk along the river boardwalk. Oh and to finish off with a treat…we recommend walking to Messina in South Brisbane for an awesome gelato (our absolute favourite in Brisbane), it’s a great way to end any day ❤️ We love Brisbane and hope you are all very happy here in Queensland 😊
@@BethandPaultravel Thank you. We are going into city tomorrow. Still bit jet lagged from uk flight🤪 will defo enjoy walk round southbank and fonding a nice place to eat👍
