Heart Shaped Cake Tutorial

  • Swiss Merengue Buttercream
    Yields enough Buttercream to fill and cover (2) 6” rounds
    ½ cup pasteurized egg whites
    1 pound powder sugar
    2 pounds unsalted butter
    4-6 pinches of kosher salt
    2 tablespoons vanilla extract
    In a stand mixer, beat the egg whites on medium high for 5 minutes
    Add the powder sugar and beat at medium high for 10 minutes
    Reduce the speed to low and add the room temperature butter in chunks
    Mix until combined and smooth
    Add salt and extract, mix to combine.
    Can be stored at room temperature for 2-3 days, one month in refrigerator and 3 months in freezer. Rewhip to smooth consistency before using.

    First time I've seen a heart shape technique that didn't waste that extra cake, I love that you incorporated it into the design.

    Kiara thank you so much for this tutorial the cake is so cool! I want to try to make it but I want to use buttercream, can you please tell me what type of buttercream do you recommend to make a really nice red?

      Thank you! If you want to use buttercream, I would suggest an American buttercream as it will be easier to color red. However I think all that red buttercream can make for a bitter taste. If it were me, I would use a yummy uncolored buttercream as a good thick crumb coat, let chill, then use a really thin coat of red buttercream as the finish.
      The American Buttercream I use
      2lbs unsalted butter
      3-4lbs powdered sugar
      Heavy whipping cream as needed
      2 tablespoons vanilla
      6 pinches of salt

    It's amazing even I want to try this cake but I did understand how to make that red fondant. Can we prepare that red fondant in home or else we have to get it from store. Can you please reply to my comment.

      Sareddy Supriya when it comes to red and black... save yourself the headache and purchase those colors. I typically use satin ice as it is easily found near me.

    You could just make a square cake and a circle cake and cut the circle cake in half and put each half on two sides of the square...
