I love when a new Speed Academy video pops up in my feed.
+Howzer Tech SAMES!
+Howzer Tech Exactly
One of the best shops in AZ hands down. I've gone here for years and there always top notch.
Really cool to see another TA car with the exhaust running through the car enabling a flat bottom! I'm doing the same thing on my Time Attack build.
That's close to 180hp per cylinder. Pretty crazy. Looks like a nice smooth power band too. I bet that thing is quick on the track. Nice setup!
this guys are speaking in a different language
I can't imagine how hot that header gets on the track, I mean it's glowing red after a couple dyno runs. Crazy stuff!
you also have to consider it's a time attack car, so at those loads it would normally be seeing crazy speed and with that comes a ton of air flow
Im watching this in SnoopaVision right now. Awesome!
Already up to almost 62k subscribers! Many, many more will come!
Wow that much power and so lil noise I love it would make an awesome sleeper engine
look at that graph. that turbo must hit HARD
Need more project grip updates in my life.
Saw this thing at Buttonwillow last weekend, amazing car
nice and I love the the tb
thats a really smooth engine
Actually... Some Evo 8s had the active center diff too. And the 4g64 came from the non turbo convertible 2g eclipse
Also, some 94 Galant's came with them as well. The Galant ones are more desirable because they were made with dual cam heads and the water jackets match up perfectly to a turbo 4g63 head.
Best models ever produce!
I always see this car at NASA track days in the Phoenix area and wondered what kind of power this crazy sounding thing made. Thanks for sharing!
Next track day is April 9th at Arizona Motorsports Park, are you going to be there PT!?
What's up man? Any updates on the s2k?
This channel is fast becoming one of my favourites. Will this Evo be at WTAC 2016 in Sydney?
That's what I'm also thinking.
+Speed Academy
What's the actual current GTW38 turbo spec? which compressor wheel and which turbine housing?
Exhaust in the car? Here I thought I was hardcore having no A/C in two of my track cars.
newbie here wats a ums and wat does it do
sir.. Dynapack is hub driven.. so its not wheel horse power, its horse power at the hubs.. wich gives out slightly higher numbers ;) still impressive though.
Pretty crazy. How is the #badass2000 coming along? Can't wait for a new video
newbie question.
Why did he move back the seat?
Improve weight distribution. Very common in extreme time attack cars and race cars
Speed Academy Thanks!
also for an increased field of view of the dimensions of the car, most people these days however only do it for weight.
That's crazy I just applied for a job at ums.
how long are those pipes supposed to last
More info on the throttle body?
That throttle valve is SO fucking cool. Where can I get more information on it? All I can find that's similar is a a "Genius Throttle" for motorbikes.
+Audio Crossing Hit up facebook.com/XLeratedEngineering/?ref=br_rs its his design called the VastFlo. I was off camera drinking beer when this was shot :).
awesome, thanks man
+J0nsyt Thank you for the link ^^ The product page is facebook.com/VastFlo/ Like us and follow for updates!
which MM GTW3884 is that?
good question
I'm pretty sure he meant to say the 4g64 block (4g63 is the original block I don't know why he would say that)... that's the one that has a taller deck height.
Where can I get that throttle?
that's the best overall tuner in phoenix
+602missile That's a fact! Tony is simply amazing when it comes to his knowledge of tuning.
Merica!!
Where can I have a look at that throttle body? Sounds interesting.
+A Vong Hit up facebook.com/XLeratedEngineering/?ref=br_rs its his design called the VastFlo.
j0nsyt
Thanks man. Had no idea what the guys were talking about haha
You'd think he would want that torque earlier like with the first turbo...
Love how it triples its horse power from 3500-4500 haha!
Did he have to modify his bumper to fit the angled radiators?
hey Pete ask him about the white lexus gs
What up with the headers? Isnt it better if they are straight as possible so there is more flow?
+R 34 Whilst you're almost correct, you're not:
Shortest possible headers are best as to reduce turbo lag, but having equal length exhaust runners to the turbo helps spool too. It's kind of a compromise, the best possible would be if you have short yet equal headers.
+Tobberobbe97 thx
I honestly would prefer the GTX vs GTW in this situation. It seems to hit sooner and only came up 60hp short vs the GTW. Also, 29psi isnt that much boost for these turbos. I make 30psi on my stock 05 turbo on Pump 92oct! This setup shud push around 35-40psi on E85 and make about 800whp
Power is everything
Very knowledgeable guy. Lost me when he started talking about stroker, de-stroking etc. jaja
+danisaelwm lol its very basic, He took a block with longer bore lengths, put longer rods in and a crank with less rod throw, along with pistons that have the wrist pins moved closer to the combustion chamber.
Basically a stroker just changes how much cylinder volume you have, you take in more air and fuel mixture for a bigger bang, it mainly benefits low end performance. With large turbo's you tend to loose that low end and usually some mid end performance so stroking an engine's what people do to get that low end power back by adding displacement to compensate for the turbo lag.
Not sure about de-stroking tho, never really looked into it. assume that's for bigger engines like the V8's and V10's
+MechRider89 Thanks!
Interesting how he went with a 4g64 block, always have people telling me to stay away from those.
Evo + Power + 1stApril...
What color is the car painted?
Blue by you. Oem Evo 8 color
thats a nice Lexus GS300, future project maybe?
thats 3x my brz on e85... damn
He should've gone with a full race efr 8374
this dude look like shane from fight tips without the dreds😂😂
💯💯👍✌😎
amazing build no doubt, but to be honest 717 awhp on a dynapack. that's like 600ish on a Mustang dyno, which would be just under 700 dynojet. not hating just clarifying that dynojet numbers are the standard usually. I love the car though he made great choices everywhere.
I don't think it will get out of the 500's on a accurate dyno.👍
No, april fools? :o THANK GOD
I'd like to see how much hp these cars can make Naturally Aspirated.
Ram rude’m mascoot gerbenpop!
Does he rally the evo?
+King Mike666 no its a time attack car
Yea just figured that out lol
2584.9lbft of torque? no problem.
I'm no expert, but it doesn't seem that impressive as far as numbers go. I think a Borg Warner EFR setup would have yielded higher numbers and the transient response of the turbo would have been better for this application. Twin scroll EFR 9180 or 8374? Just my thoughts..
+Mike Chapman You're right, the numbers aren't that great on the turbo but we're thinking the runner diameter on the exhaust manifold may be a bit small which is choking up the turbo, or the exhaust housing is too small. One of either is causing lower power numbers.
What I've noticed is that EFR's are amazing on the track. But when it's drag racing and other top speed events precision takes the cake.
lol "turban housing"
Serious question, do you really need 700WHP for a time attack? I mean GT3 cars make like 500HP. Wouldn't it be more beneficial to put that time/money into suspension work and other aero stuff? This is a serious question not a sarcastic comment. lol.
+frankth3frizz you have a point but I believe the idea is you can only strip so much weight, and power can always come in handy. from the looks of it, the body looks pretty decked out, so id assume his suspension is top notch as well.
+Kamil G That's true, I also forgot that GT3 cars have performance governors and regulations. I'm sure Porsche and Audi will make their GT3's over 1000HP with all the tech if there were no regulations. haha. This car is cool.
The beauty of unlimited time attack rules is you can make as much power as you can afford. The fastest TA cars at the World Time Attack Challenge are all in the 700-1000+ range
+frankth3frizz you need alot of power to overcome the intial drag that the extreme aero produces , only wrc cars in general have aero that produces downforce at low speeds , time attack cars don't make their fulll downforce under 80 mph for the most so yes it is usefull
HP is only half the battle especially in Time Attack. Torque plays a major factor in that game, and one cannot make all the necessary TQ w/o having the HP tag along!
I hate when you can't hear the turbo spool😤 lol
its too small lol
Loses some mid range power. just keep the revs up to bypass the loss.
That evo needs a k20
@stringer bell the K20 will make more power with that boost lol
Am I the only one who got annoyed by his random foot tapping while he was talking?
no
Some people scratch their elbows, some rub their hands together. It's a social tick, really.
Sorry, but not a meeting of the minds!
Ok look kids, Wannabe tuners... These guys are pros..
what gives you the right to call someone interested in something wannabes? just because you have a dyno and professional grade tools doesnt mean you are a professional, professionals compete on strips and are sponsored and dont make youtube videos. he probably knows his own car and has a general knowledge of others.....not an attack, but im just saying. also i dont know who the owner of this magnificent evo is, so dont troll me for not knowing.
+Donnovan Mason this guy definitely is a professional
i actually agree with frank on speed academy. he is a wannabe tuner, he only seeks dyno figures. I bet he has 0 clue on partial throttle tuning. he's a dyno queen
"OMG 700hp evo that cant rev up on G's but I dont know that" "We hoped for more". -_- actually no, the owner just said he hoped for less, he wants a bigger turbine housing to DROP power and get a better curve. A huge pulling top end 700whp motor is pointless in competitive racing
secondly. How are you saying "we" who is your we? did you invest and help build that car? if no then stop saying "we"
Worst place in Phoenix to take your car. Do your research before you spend money with them.
ll ll why's that?
